He had offered to help Val a long time ago with his fighting, but things had changed drastically since they last talked. Now, demoted and less powerful, he wondered how useful he would be to the knight. The only thing he could do was show up, and see if it was even worth it. In the end, he just wanted to stand by his word.

The hard part would be facing Valhalla after not seeing him in such a long time. Did he know? Had gossip traveled through the senshi and to the knights? Did everyone know what happened to General Wolframite? Then again, was he even on anyone's radar? How much was he seen as a threat beforehand to be even talked about?

He sometimes wondered.

In the woods in a familiar spot he last saw Valhalla, he waited. He had his phone left over from the White Phoenix operation and had sent him a text. If he wanted to fight, he could show him how.

And so he stood in the shadow of the trees away from the jogging trails and sidewalk lamps, waiting.

After being away from the city for a few months, being back and falling into the same routine of living a normal life and then patrolling seemed almost natural. In Charleston it was easier to be distracted, as his parents were there with him and Paris, and of course his games took priority, as playing ball was a dream he’d had since he was little.

Here in Destiny City, being drafted into possibly the worst professional team in history was probably the best thing to happen to him, because now that he’d been sent back to the city, he could try to help end the war once more.

Meeting up with Wolframite… he wasn’t sure what to expect, but he definitely didn’t expect to sense the aura of a lieutenant instead of the General he knew. So it was with great confusion that he approached the familiar clearing, seeing the young man with the eyepatch…. but the aura…

“Wolframite…” he greeted hesitantly, wondering if he was seeing, or feeling, things that shouldn’t be… “What… what happened? Are you hurt? Are… are you okay?” he breathed, barely a whisper, his eyes wide with concern.

He turned, looking at the knight and then down at himself. His uniform, though different from that of a General, was pristine. His bruises and scrapes had healed, and his cast was off his arm. he only had bandages under his uniform now, and the burn on his arm had swelled down and no longer was a red mess. Overall, he was in good condition. Mentally, not so much.

Looking at Valhalla, he crossed his arms about his chest. "I'm - alive." And that was all that mattered.

He looked over the knight. "Are you ready to train?"

Valhalla wasn’t entirely sure how to take Wolframite’s answer, but he forced himself to relax his shoulders and stared at the young man as he crossed his arms. At first he didn’t really understand what Wolframite was asking, and then he realized that he’d been serious in training him.

“Oh, uh… I guess,” Valhalla grinned sheepishly, shuffling his feet a little as he tried figuring out what he should be doing now. Was there a position he was supposed to take? A battle stance? Should he try and use his magic? That wasn’t really the point of this training though, was it?

“I uh… I’m not really sure what to do,” he admitted, figuring that Wolframite has trained plenty of people before and would be totally willing to take it easy on a weakling like himself.

Wolframite did not the level of Val's fighting skills and was hoping through sparring that he would get a idea on what he should work on. Getting into his own stance, he was ready for Val to do something against him, but when the knight just stood there and pointed out he had no idea what he was doing, Wolframite just stared at him.

"What?" He stood up straight again and looked at him. "You don't even know how to start a fight?" Didn't he go out constantly?

"You are out here in the park all the time. You should know a little." He was alive, or did he just run away all the time.

He was getting a twisting dread that Val had no idea how to even lift a fist against someone.

Worried and wary, he dared to ask. "Do you....never fight?"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 18, 2014 6:52 pm

It was true that Valhalla went out often, but actually fighting was a completely different story. “I mean… I’ve… kind of fought before,” he grimaced, looking rather sheepish. He’d tried fighting Benitoite when he’d pulled out Maia’s starseed… but then he ended up getting his starseed pulled out in the process, so that was probably not the best thing to mention.

“I’d rather not fight… I mean, I guess I can punch someone if I have to,” he said, demonstrating by balling his hand into a fist, and lifting them as if he was trying to look fight-worthy, but lowered his arms after a few moments.

“Besides… isn’t that what you’re going to teach me? How to fight?” he half joked, wondering if he should be worried about what he was getting himself into.

Wolframite slowly brought his hand to his mouth, staring at Val as he spoke and just looking stunned. After a moment, he removed his hand. "I can't believe you lasted this long. I would have thought that after all this time, you would have some sort of experience...or confidence." He dropped his hands. "I guess even though knights are similar to our ranks, you don't go through any training at all." It was startling news and rather sad. They had no system, no ranks, and no obligation to do anything with their weapons.

Moving back to a battle stance, he took a breath. "Okay, take whatever battle stance you use and tell me what is the first thing you think and do when seeing an enemy. Someone you know is going to fight you." Because he was pretty sure Val would try to talk to whoever it was if it was just a meeting situation.

Wolframite made sure to analyze Valhalla's stance.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 19, 2014 3:14 am

“I mean,” Valhalla mumbled, “I feel like I’ve got a lot of experience… I just… don’t usually need to fight.” Which was probably very obvious in the way he stood, watching Wolframite as he took some kind of stance, realizing only after a moment or so that it was for fighting.

Of course, when he was given his instructions, Valhalla kind of just… frowned to himself. “Who is an enemy supposed to be…?” he wondered, having a difficult time trying to imagine one. He supposed that one time fighting Painite was pretty bad, and Benitoite had tried taking his starseed, but that could have also been in an attempt to defend himself, seeing as Valhalla had kind of tackled him after Benitoite took Maia’s starseed…

“Uh… I guess the first thing I’d do… is make sure they’re not doing anything bad… and then try to talk them out of it…”

Even facing the man they called Obsidian, he somehow managed to make it out without a fight, although he’d been unable to save Obsidian’s victim…

For a moment he just stood there, and then slowly raised up his hands as if to show he was unarmed… but Wolframite’s exasperation had him balling his hands into fists once more. “Is this okay?” He’d gotten training 101 with Zia when he’d first started, but nothing in regards to fighting…

He wanted to sigh and rolls his eyes at Valhalla. Talking to someone might just wind up getting him murdered. It was that fear that the knight would go too far out of his way for a lost cause or a trap and wind up as another bloodstain on the ground that really got to him.

"Not everyone wants to talk. Not everyone cares about what you have to say, and I hope that while you are talking, you never let your guard down. Anyone can trap you, trick you, and use you in order to get your starseed or get the starseed of those you know." He pointed out before watching Val take his "stance."

He released his own stance to move over to Val and look his footing over. "No. You are too easy to knock over. You want to have a stance that, if someone threw something at you or tried to force you down to the ground, you'd be able to plant your feet and take the force. That or jump." He reached out and paused.

"Uh...I'm just...um...adjusting." He managed, slightly flustered. He reached for Val's hips and then took one of his own legs to tap against Val's let to then move it just a bit. He then looked him over.

"You should be a bit studier, but try and practice a stance with someone and see if they can't just shove you over wtih their hand." It was good, safe practice he could do with anyone.

Wolframite moved back to his own spot and took a stance. "Now when you first encounter a enemy, you want to ask a few things. Do you know this person and their attack? If they are range, you want to get in close. If they are melee, you want distance. You also have to ask what your power can do, because then you'd want to get close or keep your distance. Sometimes if you are both melee or both range, you kinda have to play a tango and then see how good you are switching things up. Sometimes you just have to get close to a person. It's why you have to be good at hand to hand combat."

These were all basics from Lt. 101 training.

"I'm going to attack." He stated, wanting to see how Val reacted. Did he dodge attacks and was he good at dodging? Did he defend and go for an opening? Did he all out take the damage and go for a even better hit?

He needed to know his fighting style a bit more.

Kicking off, he went for a very direct, forward dash with a fist thrown in the direction of Val's head. It was the basic of most basic attacks.

He felt guilty, he really did. He felt guilty over the fact that there really were people on “the other side” who weren’t bad like so many people make them out to be. Being able to even talk to Wolframite or Remarque or anyone proved that there wasn’t that big of a gap between them in the first place.

Valhalla stood still as Wolframite approached him to adjust his stance, doing his best to follow his suggestion for how he should stand. He felt awkward, not because of Wolframite helping him, but because he just… didn’t feel very natural standing, ready to fight. But he did listen to the best of his abilities, nodding occasionally to let Wolframite know he was listening, even if half of what he was saying went right over his head.

How a person attacks? Range? Melee? While the words weren’t lost on him in context, he just wasn’t able to pick out any differences between one fighter to another. And when Wolframite dashed forward to him, Valhalla stared with wide eyes, frozen in place.

Sure enough, Wolframite’s fist made contact and Valhalla let out a yelp in pain as he stumbled backwards, his “fighting” stance dropped completely and his hands up over his mouth, tears springing up in his eyes from the pain.

Well, while his lip wasn’t spared, he was at least grateful he didn’t get clobbered in the nose.

In his defense, he didn’t think Wolframite would jump up to actually reach his face, seeing as he was good head taller than him.

Wolframite stood there, completely stunned and stepped back. "What was that?! You didn't block or dodge or ANYTHING?!" The man had just let him punch him without any sort of reaction to protect his own face.

He just looked wide-eyed at the knight in disbelief for a moment, not understanding how Val could have gone so long and be...be...THIS BAD!

"You NEED to block or dodge when someone punches you. I can't believe I even have to tell you this. You either jump out of the way of a punch, punch back, or you block. Getting hit is NOT one of those options." He wanted to facepalm so badly right now.

"Okay, I'm going to do this again. Now either JUMP OUT OF THE WAY, block my very direct attack, or punch me back. If someoen punches you and you just stand there to take it, at least get in a punch in yourself or else they are going to wittle you down to a bleeding mess." Which he already noticed a little by the split lip.

Stepping back only a few steps this time, he looked at Val. "I'm going to attack. If you don't do something, I'm going to punch you in the face." He said, trying to make this as clear as possible to the knight.

If this didn't work, he was just going to go full assault to try and get this knight to actually start defending his welbeing because this way didn't seem to be working. He wasn't used to these baby steps. Usually a officer like him would just go full force and let the trainee figure it out through pain and experience. The tearing-eyed look the knight gave showed he was far too soft. He needed to be rougher for this war.

Wolframite could help with that.

“I didn’t think you’d actually hit me!!” Valhalla admitted, the confession sounding more like a whine than any viable excuse. He really hadn’t expected Wolframite would be able to even reach his face to punch him! Clearly he’d been mistaken.

“Ow,” he whined again, pulling his hands away from his face to wipe at some of the blood from his lip. And this was why he opted not to fight. Because people would just end up getting hurt and then he would get hurt and he definitely didn’t want that.

Of course, when Wolframite told him he was going to attack again, he whimpered, cringing away from him. Maybe this was a bad idea after all. Valhalla lifted his arms as if to try and block Wolframite when he attacked, but the impact had him stumbling backwards, leaving him to land on his butt with a groan.

“Why my face?” he whined, failing to push himself back up when he pinned his cape underneath the hand he was using for support. “Ugh,” he whimpered, and then cringed away from Wolframite, just in case he thought to attack him while he was down.

He walked over, glaring at the man who was complaining about a little punch. He was furious. Vivid that Valhalla thought that was pain, true pain, and that he was complaining about a split lip. He was angry with the officer that he had done NOTHING to prepare himself for his role, and he felt his blood boiling at how negligent he had been in not doing anything to better arm himself.

"I go for the face because it takes a man down. I go for the face, because it makes you stunned, makes you flinch, has a chance to knock you out, and allows me to steal your starseed. Do you know how a starseed being grabbed feels like? Do you know that pain?" He didn't give Val a chance to answer. "It is much worse than some dumb split lip."

He stood beside him, looking down (a rare thing for such a short officer). "Get up or I'll kick your side. Get up or I'll touch that starseed of yours and remind you why you shouldn't have been such a dumb idiot and learned nothing about fighting." He waited.

If Val was smart, he would get up. If he was very smart, he would try and attack Wolframite with his feet so close.

if he was dumb, which Wolframite hoped he wasn't, he would stay down.

Valhalla stared up at Wolframite as he approached, his hand lowering once more from trying to stem the blood from his lip, his eyes wide in surprise and confusion. The way Wolframite spoke… somehow this seemed to have turned into much more than just ‘training’ or showing him some moves in self-defense.

Wolframite was serious. Mentioning his starseed had Valhalla flinching, his bloodied hand pointlessly lowering to hover over his chest as if to protect it, but he knew that was pointless.

No amount of armor had stopped Painite from grabbing hold of it, or Benitoite ripping it out… Even when Wolframite himself had clenched onto his starseed in his anger for when Valhalla had stopped him from going after Zirconia, his armor had done nothing.

He didn’t want to be weak. He didn’t want to be someone who could so easily be picked off, regardless of his unwillingness to fight for the sake of fighting. While he was against the pointless bloodshed, he wanted to at least defend those he cared for — his family, his friends… himself.

Teeth clenched, his expression settled into that of resolve, and he made a quick kick towards Wolframite’s feet, before scrambling up on his own. He didn’t wait for Wolframite to order him to defend himself or to attack. Instead, Valhalla sprung forward, throwing a fist in Wolframite’s direction.

He was glad to see that expression, delighted to feel a kick out of his legs, to which he jumped and fell and stumbled, but since he half expected it, regained his footing. It was the thrown fist that had him smiling, eager for that conflict. He wanted to see Val taking things seriously. He wanted to see his blood boil. He wanted him to fight, to get violent, and to feel purpose in what he was doing. Not fighting felt like not caring, and you couldn't have just an indifferent attitude in this war. If you did, you died for nothing. He didn't want to find out Valhalla died for stupid reasons. The knight deserved better than that.

When he threw the punch, Wolframite rose his hands up to block it, and just as Val threw his punch, Wolframite went to punch his exposed side with his own fist. "YES! Come on now! Don't leave your sides open when you attack. Hit and keep hitting. Follow through!" He called out, throwing his advice as he showed him through example. Pain was a great teacher. It made your mind and body remember, and it helped you create quick reflexes. You started to jerk when you felt yourself open. You started to be aware of how you placed your body, your legs, your arms, and know when you were letting parts of you open - most of the time. It also started to build a tolerance to pain. After you got punched in the ribs a few dozen times, you weren't so stunned when it happened again. Then you could work to punching again more quickly.

Valhalla needed this training. He needed pointers. He needed to feel that hunger when fighting. He needed to want to live - and to win!
