Lailah glanced up at the sky and she smiled a bit, today was going to turn out nicely. Not hot or humid which was always a nice thing. The mare stretched out her long wings as she glanced down to her side and looked at Vradric one of her two sons. She was happy for the family she has been given but at the same time she couldn’t help but hope in the next time she has foals, there would be at least one other girl. She loved her daughter Crusnik but couldn’t help but notice the lack of emotion the mare would show. She rarely spoke and when she did it was so blunt! Not exactly elegant. Had she and Vatican done something wrong? No no, maybe it was just that she and Vatican were to open… She blushed under her dark pelt when she thought of how lovey dovey she and Vatican could be.

Oh well, Crusnik was perfect the way she was! And just after she left home the shock Lalaih received at hearing Crusnik was pregnant! But she was happy because she would finally be able to watch her grandfoals grow! She still felt a pang of guilt in her heart for what had happened with her son Erchan’s foals. But a mother had to do what a mother had to do. She went to her home lands to find that flower that would keep Erchan from getting burnt by his mate’s flames. And she know that she had done the right thing. But she couldn’t help but be overly excited about being a part of Crunik’s foals foalhood.

Vradric was usually well put together but not today. Today his was bring dragged from home to have a play day with his cousin. His –girl- cousin. Of all the things. Fillys had coodies… He frowned up at his mother, Lailah. She seemed a bit lost in thought but the young colt didn’t mind his big sister though! She was pretty cool actually when you think about it. She didn’t hover and always ask him tons of questions. It was more like a silent eye she kept on him. And that was exactly what he wanted, he knew that he was young but he wanted to be able to make his own mistakes and learn from that. Least that is what he thought he wanted.

His father was rather strict compared to his mother but really… A play date with his girl cousin… He frowned even more. RosenKreuz had this air about her… She was all haughty and not all that fun to play with. She didn’t like to run around or get herself dirty. She was always so prim and proper.

This day was going to drag on. As they walked down the path to the pond they would be meeting at Vradric still couldn’t get the scowl off his face. Why couldn’t he have had a play date with Bacillus instead? Least he would run around and get dirty with him and play rough. He was sure his prissy cousin wouldn’t want to even go near the water.

Crusnik’s silver eyes looked up into the sunlight. The heat of the sun warming her face. She looked down to her daughter, RosenKreuz. “Happy to see Vradric?” She asked lightly, she assumed to her daughter would enjoy these play dates with her cousin. It was all part of what Family Togetherness was, right? She tilted her head some her ears flicking and the lace and jewel on her forehead shifted. Her piercing in her ear fell into her line of site and she raised her head up to pull it out. Her daughter’s bright colors came from her father. Even Bacillus wasn’t as bright, but her daughter was quiet and responsible. This made her feel so proud. She did well in her lessons and this is why she had the day off and Bacillus had to stay behind at the herd to keep studying. She felt bad having to leave him behind but he had to learn if he wanted to be part of this herd and since he was born there, he would be part of it!

Crusnik never got angry, or at least didn’t express her emotions much it just wasn’t her thing, and she noticed that her daughter has picked up something similar. Crusnik had to wonder if the lack of a father figure would prove to be tough for her foals. Lazarus wasn’t a bad guy per say, he did stay with her at Eterna Fiamma until he spooked at the idea f being a father. She couldn’t exactly blame him, but she hoped that he was doing well. Bacillus kept asking questions about him, so Crusnik always said nice things.

RosenKreuz strode beside her mother. Her Cerulean eyes looking forward. She listened to her mother’s question and gave a nod. Sure, it wasn’t as if she disliked her family, she enjoyed being around her family. Her wings ruffles and settled in against her sides before she looked up at her mother. She was probably more excited about seeing Lailah then Vradric, she had nothing against her cousin but they had little in common… Though they were going to the pond today, that meant there would be cool water. Rosen would have to partake in that for her. She did very much enjoy the water and might even be willing to have a splash fight with her cousin.

Rosen walked with her mother in silence an it was as they came upon the meeting place that she saw her grandmother Lailah and Vradric. He had a scowl on his face and was itching to get into the water. And Lailah standing there, her long mane and tail flowing in the gentle breeze. Rosen trotted over to her Grandmother and nestled in against her legs. She stood out against Lailah who had a night sky on her pelt.

Rosen glanced at her cousin and nodded her head softly to him and looked back to watch her mother walk her way over and very properly give her greetings to her mother. She looked back and forth and then received the ‘go and play’ from the adults and so she went and joined her cousin.

“Still rolling in mud?” She asked cordially of her cousin.

When Lailah reached the pond, her daughter and granddaughter were nowhere to be found, that means they would arrive any minute. Well, that was fine she looked around the area and didn’t see anyone else. Which was a little disappointing, she was hoping there would be others for the foals to play with, but that’s okay. Gives them a little time to spend with each other. Family was important after all. She leaned down and nosed at her son and he gruffed at her in return. She smiled and flexed out her right wing and she nosed at it lightly where there felt like one of the jewels might slip loose. They rarely ever give her problems with her thick feathers.

Both of her sons would have similar thick feathers. It seemed like the boys got all the fun things. She was happy to see that RosenKreuz also got wings after her basket popped. She had taught the filly the basics about flying and she felt so pleased with how well the girl was doing. She was receiving other leasons from that herd Cursnik joined. She had gone back there once her or twice herself. That was how she found out Crusnik was pregnant. Seeing her daughters swollen belly… Now that she thought of it, she felt like such a proud mother.

She looked down the path and saw Crusnik and Rosen heading over. The filly trotted over and she leaned down to put her head against the little ones back in a hug. And then greeted her daughter.

“I hope the walk wasn’t too strenuous my dear.” Her flicked her tail lightly as she shifted her body as the foals went to play.

Vradric fluffed his wings and then grumbled. Why were girls always late? He poked his hoof into the mud and looked longing at the water. If Lass of even Bass was here, they would have already been playing. But no, he had to wait until the others arrived. It’s the ‘proper’ thing to do. But it didn’t take long for them to arrive after. Rosen went and greeted his mother and was then ushered over to him. She gave him that look… He frowned at her and then her mouth opened.

“You and I both know that I don’t roll, lay or play in mud.” He stated and walked away from her toward the water. “And Princess, there’s some dirt here. You might want to stay over there.” Her little tail flicked in a sassy way as he wandered off onto the small beach area before placing his hooves in the water. The liquid felt so cool against her legs on this day. He started to walk in a bit more. He could hear his mother and sister speaking about something that was rather boring to him so he turned them out.

Man was he bummed out. He wanted someone to play in the water with and Rosen… He wouldn’t go through the complaints in his head again. He pranced around in a small circle kicking up water and it was then that he realized that he had splashed Rosen. He stopped and looked at the filly. He then burst out laughing. “The Princess got wet!”

Ah, there goes Rosen to her grandmother. Her mother always looked to regal and elegant. Crusnik use to wonder if Lailah was royalty where she had come from. The mare stood there the gentle breeze tugging at her mane and tail. Her jeweled wings...

Crusnik felt the lace scarf and sash that was wrapped about her body get pulled in the same breeze. Her tail swayed lightly behind her as she walked to her mother and nosed her head in respect. "Mother." She cooed softly, after Rosen had given Lailah a hug. She then looked down to her daughter and nodded away toward her younger brother sending the foals off to play together.

“No, the walk was quiet pleasant. RosenKreuz is quiet a nice travel companion.” She nodded as if stating a fact. Not only that but the young filly knew exactly how to get to the pond, which meant she was doing well in her maps so once she becomes an adult she’ll have a lantern of her own. She knew that Lailah didn’t fully understand the idea of Eterna Fiamma but she was happy that Crusnik had finally found a place to belong and she knew that’s how her mother felt.

“Father is doing well?” She asked turning along with her mother to keep an eye on the foals. She vaguely heard some taunting statements and watched as Vradric went to the lake, Rosen was stretching herself out to get ready for the water. And then came the splash and she watched as some of the water splashed as RosenKreuz. Crusnik knew that Rosen loved the water.

‘Princess…PRINCESS!?’ Rosen glowered at her cousin and when he walked away she stretched out her wings and legs not wanting to get a cramp in the water if she got to deep. She was just about to tuck her wings when she got distracted by her mother commenting on how she was a good traveling companion. This meant good things! Maybe she would get to enter the cover sooner and get her lantern and be able to start Walking the Ways.

It was at that point that she got splashed with water. Her head turned sharply to Vradic who had been prancing about playing by himself for the moment. ‘Well,’ Rosen thought to her self. ‘we’ll see about that.’ She then charged off right toward her cousin. But she layed her wings flat and leapt gliding up and over him and then with a quick tuck of her wings dropped from the air and sent a small wave to splash her cousin.

She could tell he had been taken a back by this. He ducked under her and then stared, his mouth open at her as she popped her head above the water. She walked in the water until her hooves reached the ground. The cooling water washed over her body and she felt instantly at ease and relaxed. She sent a smirk to Vradric and then kicked some water at him.

“Princess huh?” She water pulled her multi-colored hair flat and she shook lightly the water shaking off her. "What do you think about that?"

Lailah raised a brow as she watched Vradric splash her granddaughter. It was nice to hear the sounds of foals playing again. She couldn’t help but smiling to herself as she saw RosenKreuz bristle at her son’s comment. Like mother, like daughter. Lailah was able to see Crusnik in Rosen so much and it brought her back to her earlier thoughts and had to shake them out of her head.

“Oh, you know your father. He’s grumpy to everyone but me.” She blushed under her dark pelt a bit. “He’s happy to have foals around again and I’m sure that under his permanent frown, he’s happy.” Her voice carried a small laugh. Vatican could be temperamental but he adored his family. Though she never asked him, she was left to wonder how he survived while she was gone on her journey to her home lands to get that flower… When she came back he was calm and collected but, she had her doubts.

The image of Vatican all disheveled trying to care of the family alone made her laugh. Her wings shifting slightly before re-settlings. Her silver eyes taking in the form of her daughter again. Her ears picking up the sounds of the foals playing in the water. It sounded like Rosen was getting her revenge for Vradric’s princess comment. He really should know better by now.

“He would, however like to see you and foals sometime soon, before they grow.” Vatican had problems being out in the sun so it meant that the foals would have to be up late come visit and so it wasn’t always the easiest. “You could spend the night.”

Vradric looked over at his cousin as she stood up on the land. She wouldn’t do anything about this, but that was when it happened. It was as if Rosen changed, well then again how would he know. He usually spent his time with Bass, Rosen’s brother. Bass was always so much more fun to play with. Girls were so… Prissy. Well least he always thought that way. The family was primarily male, so it was his mother who he hear others call a ‘true lady’. He didn’t understand that. But then his big sister Crusnik who seemed like she didn’t care about anything, her tone was always monotone and her face expressionless. She never wanted to play, and then RosenKreuz who he had only met just after his came from the basket. She never seemed interested in playing with him. So that left Bass.

Which was why when Rosen took off right for him he couldn’t help but duck thinking she was going to collide with him and then she was flying over him… And then when quickly turned around there was a wave of water that drenched him. He stood there with his mouth gaping wide open. What just happened? Wasn’t his cousin suppose to be just like the other girls in his family? But there she was, soaked in water herself, not very graceful at all…

He wings flared out and the colt shook the water off himself. “I certainly wasn’t expecting that.” He confessed. “Where did you learn to do something like that? I bet it was Bass! Though… I don’t think We’ve ever gone to the water with him. This is our first summer.” Was it possible that Rosen was more ‘normal’ that he had previously thought? Maybe that was what his mother meant by not ‘judging a book by its’ cover’. Whatever a book was. He had a bad habit of judging others before he got to know them.

That was something he was slowly learning to control. Actually he’s noticed that as he’s been getting older that he’s been calming down. Maybe that’s what has been bothering me. He’s becoming more like his mother, more peaceful. Not that his father was loud and always super energetic. Maybe it was a family trait to be relaxed all the time. Was that possible? He was sure that he was suppose to act a certain way, but maybe he was wrong since he seemed wrong in so many other things. His parents would always say in hushed tones that he was ‘still growing’ and ‘would learn on his own’. Maybe these are the points they were talking about.

Man, did he hate it when his parents were right!

Crusnik looked over and watched the interaction between the foals. She tilted her head lightly, her facial expression never changing as she watched and listened to her mother speak. She watched Rosen jump over her younger brother and he stared with his mouth wide open. The mare didn’t seem to have much of a thought on the interaction. She simply watched them. Vradric seemed to have his epiphany that he shouldn’t judge others without knowing them well. Seemed to take him long enough, she wondered how many times their mother had to speak with him about it. He was a good colt, but it was still growing albeit slowly. Good things to those that wait, right?

Crusnik glanced over and saw her mother looking at her. Those eyes, she knew what her mother was thinking and she allowed her to do so. Sometimes things were better left to the imagination. Especially when they made someone like her mother smile as she was.

“RosenKreuz would like to see him. This is something that can be done. However as you can see Bacillus isn’t with us. He required a bit more training.” She stated noting that her son had goofed off in one of the sessions which got him in trouble. Her son was energetic and charming, full of questions. He asked a lot about their father. The stallion had joined the herd received his lantern and then vanished. Crusnik still thought very fondly of the stallion, he had been good to her. But she was left to assume that foals were to much for him to handle. The nights were fun and she did miss those a bit. But such was life and she accepted things as they came.

“I think father will be impressed with RosenKreuz.” She at least hoped so, the filly reminded her a bit of him and his wisdom and she certainly could tell she was taken with her grandfather. She respected him and wanted to learn from him. The young filly had been exceeding in her lessons and rarely spoke about their father. Crusnik figured that Rosen didn’t feel the lack of a father figure less then Bass did. Which was understandable.

Deep down Crusnik wanted to see Lazarus again. She wanted him to see the beautiful foals that he helped create. However, the mare knew that it was too much to ask. She knew that the stallion probably wouldn’t be back and Lutra tried to ease her mind of this. But she had to get back to the point.

“We will spend the night.” That also meant that they would need to leave soon so that RosenKruez could rest before Vatican was awake and be able to spend the evening.

The young filly laughed at her cousin before kicking some water at him. “What, you think my brother taught me to do that?” She laughed even more. “Yeah right. “ She frowned; Bass didn’t much like to play with her. She always figured it was because she was a girl but oh well. She didn’t have time to waste on that right now. “Self taught.” She looked over to her cousin and lowered herself into a bow. “I could always teach you if you wanted.” She eyes him know that he wouldn’t go for it. Not only that but she wasn’t sure she could teach him. She hadn’t ever taught anything before to anyone before. She became to ponder this when she heard her mother speak her name in her conversation.

She turned her attention to the adult and she titled her head. It was sounding like they might be spending the night. That meant… that meant! Her ears perked up and she smiled happily hearing that she would get to see Vatican, her grandfather. She did in fact adore him. “I get to see Grandfather!” She chided. She could see that Vradric was lost in his own thoughts about Bass not teaching the move to her. She shook her head lightly and splashed him before she walked back to the land to get a better listen on the conversation.

No, she didn’t mind leaving early. Vradric wasn’t boring or anything but play dates like this were a little… Forced? She liked the more natural settings for such things, like going over to her grandparents place and getting to spend the night. Her grandmother always spoiled her and her grandfather told her stories. Her mother didn’t really dote on her like that which was okay. Lailah always says that, that is the job of the grandparents.

“Vradric, sounds like I’ll be spending the night.” She said to her cousin. She knew that he wouldn’t be thrilled over the idea but he wouldn’t have a fit over it either. Gave him a little break right? She shook herself off and then realized that she had soaked Vradric in doing so. “Oops, sorry.” She glanced over at him and then realized she wanted to play in the water a bit more and she went back in.

She went in deep enough that her hooves barely touched the ground and she floated around. When Vradric joined her, she swam around him happily. “Hey slow poke, you need to more those legs faster if you want to keep up.” She laughed lightly and ducked her head under the water. It felt so cool and nice against her pelt. She wished she could swim daily but lessons always kept her occupied.
