Heheh.... the laws of this world...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The mystery surrounding the creation and the relationship of a demon weapon and their masters had always perplexed Egil. He had been successful - somewhat, in recreating the artificial souls and the bodies used to house them. But even, those were largely preliminary tests.
Further investigation led to questions regarding the so called "resonance" of Miester's. He had learned that the Miester's he'd captured were rather discreet about that subject, and less than willing to share such information. At the time he had been nearly killed in ambush and wasn't in the mood for the Miester's insubordination. The result irrevocably destroyed any chances he had of ever getting another one of deaths lackeys to speak with him about the subject again. But still, their unwillingness to cooperate didn't deter him. No, it only served to fuel the fire, his curiosity had to be sated.
So he continued his research, and of course he had to find a place to do his work. It was difficult but he groomed his hacking skills for this very occasion, rewiring funds from some well known shady companies, setting a trail to another equally evil rival company. Another boon was that technology had continued to develop, bringing new comforts to replace the old. Experimental construction materials were now complete and commonplace, so creating his own storage room and secret lab His enemies and allies were growing more powerful than himself. He needed to rectify that. Despite his best laid plans, he was no stranger to failure.
Creating a demon weapon, was infinitely more difficult than constructing an artificial soul, requiring massive amounts of concentrated spiritual energy, an environment full of souls to draw said energy from, and a plethora of other things the Machinist HQ simply lacked. He was persistent though, eventually learning the way to the infamous "Demon City" so he could sent his modified demons to gather the necessary materials for his research. Modifying soul absorption liquids in to a crystalline element had become necessary which allowed him to create a simulated environment abundant in spiritual energy.
With those obstacles out of the way, he began using the same creation process for artificial souls to help generate the soul of a demon weapon. Again, this was process was largely trial and error, given the distinct differences between the two. He had also dabbled into the Madness, that all creatures exhibited. Compared to creating artificial souls, emitting his on Madness, or more precisely its principle had been rather simple. Given that a human soul and a Witch Soul were the only things needed this items weren't hard to acquire.Thus his own weaponized drones came into being,but Egil was missing something. While a technological marvel the Drones were prototypes at best. There was some unseen catalyst at play here, and he would find it, sooner or later, the secret would be unveiled.
Despite himself, Egil couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. His alternate personality Zanza had been strangely distant the past few weeks,as if mocking Egil's attempts. Zanza knew his other half, more so than Egil thought he knew, and it was rare for Zanza to take such an interest in something that he would go out of his way to keep Egil out of it.
Hidden deep underground in his secret laboratory the sound of an explosion went off in the middle of an experiment. The room had quickly filled with smoke from the blast, as dust and debris obscured his vision. He clutched his body, painfully aware of the various injuries on his person, after he had been violent thrown into the wall, the force alone cracking several of his ribs, and collapsing it on top of him. But paid them no heed as he tossed aside the wreckage, and crawled out. One hand held his throbbing ribcage, as the other swatted away the smoke. Thankfully he had installed ventilation within the room, which quickly dispersing it. As the dust settled, he glanced around the room taking note of the catastrophe that was his supplies, scattered, broken and laid out haphazardly across the floor. Sighing he quickly scanned the rest of the room for an assessment of what was left.
His ears perked he heard a crash followed by a slow but methodical screech, like a knives being dragged across the ground. Turning his head he found himself staring at the approaching figure, a strange woman wearing a strange uniform;similar to Egil's , though it was obviously made for a woman. White and black in color, it hugged her small but supple frame, short snow colored hair hung from her waist, as piercing orange eyes stared back into his own. But what drew his attention was the azure orb embedded in her forehead. The woman studied the room before fixating her gaze on Egil. Suddenly she stopped moving, crumbling to her knees, staring with unfocused eyes at the ground. Egil took a few cautious steps forward, unsure of how approach her.
It seemed like an eternity before either spoke, the mysterious women, whose radiance shone like the very sun, illuminating the darkened room, simply stared at the boy apparently waiting for a response. Heaving himself to an upright standing position he glared at her, and spoke.
"How did you get in here!
"He demanded.
Better yet, who are you?"
the teen asked, his voice haughty yet calm, but the tall beauty before him just smiled, cerulean eyes piercing the soul, easily seeing the fear he so desperately tried to hide behind his bravado.Her only reply was the smile widening on her face, before he crumpled to his knees, gasping for breath. It felt like his entire body was suddenly in a vice grip, crushing him from all sides.
Power, beyond anything he had ever seen nor felt, so dense and thick it was if an ocean had suddenly descended upon him, began rippling outward in waves. Its sheer intensity dwarfed his own pitiful level, so much so that he could no longer sense it, yet the entire time that faint smile gazed back at him, taking amusement in the range of emotions flickering through his eyes.
Why, thats a silly question...I am your all of your hopes and dreams...I am what you've desired most, a parent..a mother, a sister, a teacher....even..a lover. We are connected...you and I. I am apart of you, just as you are apart of me, two halves separated yet whole. Although....I must admit I find myself pondering whether to swallow you whole, or hold you as a mother would her child."
"she said, mirth dripping from every word spoken, yet the message was clear.He was completely at her mercy.
Suddenly the oppressive feeling left him, and he gulped down precious air. Egil shakily took a knee glancing at her, his mind racing for what this women was talking about. Then it hit him.She..or rather it, was HIS creation, the weapon he had wanted to create was now standing before him, in all of her power and glory.But how!? his thoughts raged. He wasn't even close to completion, he hadn't half of the required materials, and only a smattering of the sealing matrices were actually in place. Hell, he barely had even a tenth of the required spiritual power necessary to give it life. This was supposed to take months to complete, not weeks! He knew trying to emulate demon weapons, was risky, given spiritual energies otherwise volatile nature, and the tests he was running were harmless! His eyes quickly narrowed, as he leaned forward, confusion evident on his face. Just as he was about to question her, he was immediately cut off as her power returned once again.Evidently she had not finished speaking.
"Your question....is irrelevant. What you should asking, is what we're going to do?"
Despite the aforementioned threat, her voice came out as a warm and gentle summer breeze.It was frightening how kind her words sounded, given the circumstances. Of all the scenarios that could have happened, he had hoped this was would have been the most unlikely. Well, his choices were limited, and he was sorely unprepared for combat. That meant he would need to buy himself some time, or make some sort of deal. He didn't like either option.
Flushing his system with his own power, he summoned hundreds of drones. Once the familiar sensation of his wavelength came full force, Egil willed his body to obey his command. Like a broken marionette he struggled his way into a standing position then released a burst of power to regain his composure. He stood a good half a foot taller than she, eyes studying her form.If she was surprised she was damn good at hiding it. But otherwise she made no outward motions to attack.
What we're going to do,"
" It was obvious that Egil was struggling, but his pride would not allow him to show weakness, not now. His words were controlled, firm, and resolute as he continued.to make matter worst he could feel Zanza trying to but in.
"Is leave this place and get me some dinner. You get the honor of telling me about yourself. I want to know you. If what you say is true, then we've got a lot of catching up to do."
he finished.The woman wavelength was lifted once again, and for the first time, there was a comfortable silence between the two. After a few moments, her mouth tugged into the small smile, as Egil's gave way to his trademark smirk.
"Very well. You may call me,"
she began.
"ADA."
he said interrupting her. It was rather humorous, at least from Egil's point of view, given her rather funny expression as her mouth hung open, confusion written on her face.
"I know, most demon weapons, if thats what you are, already have a name, but given the circumstances, I think this is appropriate. Its an acronym for Ariticial Digital Apparition. But the name itself is a shortened version of Adelaide, which has a German meaning....noble. At least, thats what I think when I look at you."
he said.
ADA as she was now going to be called blinked in surprise, but smiled softly as she processed the name Egil bestowed upon her. He was right about one thing, it was strange for him to give her name, but perhaps this was for the best. Her name, no, he wasn't quite ready to hear it just yet.
"Thank you Master Egil. Now, let our power become one."
He nodded, and she began the synchronization, allowing their wavelengths to harmonize with one another.
Egil looked on with interest, as ADA glowed a brilliant blue, his own wavelength released itself intertwining with her own. But then, something happened, something...wrong. His body felt suddenly weak, and ADA screamed. Her hands reached for her head, as her pain filled syllables echoed in the laboratory, eyes glowing a fierce red.
A pulse of black energy emanated from her body, causing Egil's own to seize up. It felt like this ichor had just been dumped all over him, a thick viscous sludge that made it difficult to think, difficult to even breath. All the while a ADA continued her bone chilling scream, until silence. Then raw unadulterated uncontrollable power, his power, pulsated with her own, its sheer intensity blanketing the laboratory with its golden luminescence, he was forced to shut his eyes lest its brilliance blind him.
"Wh-whats going on! Z-Zanza!
His thoughts raged and he could swear he hear Zanza laughing. Struggling to his knees, he flooded his body with his own energy, but cringed in pain as he felt a jab in his gut. In the commotion he had forgotten how his ribs were broken, as he painfully held a hand to his side. To his growing horror, ADA's power seemed to leap in eagerness as the strength of her wavelength spiked.
"S-she's...taking...my...power!?
He realized as he felt his reserves noticeably drop. His thoughts were cut short, as the ADA suddenly raised her head, her eyes no longer filled with that innocent mirth, now dead and lifeless.
"ADA!?!"
Egil rushes over to her.Her body gave a sudden jerk, before she abruptly disappeared. Egil was at a serious disadvantage, not only had he lost the use of a limb, but he could feel his reserves being drained by ADA. For the first time in his life, Egil felt the creeping chill of doubt, as he faced an adversary he wasn't sure he could beat.
ADA reappears raising an arm cannon again, preparing to deliver the final blow but Egil quickly gathered drones beneath his feet, using them to slide underneath her attack. Her arm cannon arc'd over his head as he dipped low, as it smashed into the floor with a thunderous crash. He hadn't stopped moving, as he darted towards a nearby table, picking up one of the his electro cubes. Flickering from his position to gain some distance, he felt another crushing blow, this one to his backside, slamming him into the ground.Egil wasn't in the best of positions. Grimly, he tried to fight his way to his feet. His left arm was throbbing from pain, and his vision was swimming. Still, he managed to get one knee under him. Then the other. Then-
Then he felt ADA's fingers in his head, digging into his hair and hoisting him up by it. Before he could react, she used her grip to smash him face first into one of walls. His vision blacked out for a second. ADA slammed him again and again, and then sprinted, while dragging his face through the wall, before hurling him across the other side of the room.
Mid-flight Egil managed to get his bearings, as he flipped through the air, and crouch landed against the opposing wall. He turned towards her, only to find ADA's emotionless visage but a few inches from his face. Reacting instantly he lashed out with a backhand, knocking her head back.
Suddenly her hand erupted into motion, moving too quick for him to react as it viciously grabbed his throat, the air abruptly cut-off from his lungs. In response, he shoved cube into her chest and activated it. His cube wasn't inflicting any real damage, but it had the intended effect. Once he felt her grip loosen, he used the opportunity to violently shove her back with fierce kick, the force sending her flying and crashing into a table full of supplies.
"ADA LISTEN TO ME!!! I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE!!!"
He screamed.
It was then he noticed his supplies, specifically the healing wavelength disturber that clattered at her feet. ADA mechanically made her way into a standing position, when her free hand touched an old drone. To his shock, the drone reacted, as it was literally sucked it into her like a vacuum. That single Azure jewel in the middle of her crown glowed brightly, and in the next instant, her left arm transformed into an improved drone.
"Technological assimilation!? I-Impossible!"
He exclaimed. His senses pounded against his head as her power spiked. He spasmed as his own reserves dropped even lower, and barely had enough time to dash to the side as twin beams of energy lanced into his previous space.
An explosion erupted from the point of impact sending both fighters in opposite directions, a smokey haze proliferating through the room. Slumped against the wall, Egil dragged his body forward until he hit the ground with a dull thud. Getting up to his knees, he crawled beneath the cloud of debris coughing violently, as a spittle of blood made its way down his mouth. It was obvious his injuries were beginning to take their toll on him. But the battle wasn't over yet. He could hear ADA slowly dislodging herself from the ceiling, and if the last attacks were any indication, she had few if any injuries. With a grunt, he made his way to his feet, his hand tightly grasping more cubes.
When the smoke cleared, he found himself staring at something that nearly shattered his resolve. ADA was consuming every device or piece of technology that was on the ground and absorbing it into her being.it was then he noticed something small attached to her jewel. One of Zanza's signatures.
"That b*****d"
. ADA was not just his greatest work, she was...dammit, she was his! A piece of his own soul given life! He wouldn't, couldn't give up on her! Egil leaps upward and grabs Ada's forehead;unleashing a hack cube to terminate Zanza's virus. Ada passes out leaving Egil to nurse his wounds. Egil places ADA in a stasis pod and lets his nano mites restore him.
