The khalasar moved on.

Hunting, fighting, and then executing the monstrous kalona Zanza still weighed upon Daenerys' mind, even though it had been several weeks since. She did not regret at all getting involved and certainly did not regret slaying such a hideous beast, but there were a few matters that concerned her.

Her warriors had fought well and no one were killed. That was a blessing. It truly was. Throughout their journeys, they'd heard many stories of groups not so fortunate. They had fought with one kalona, but out there were bands of them roving the wastes, and in those cases it was rare to hear of an encounter that didn't result in at least one murder. If she wanted to keep her herd safe, she couldn't afford to assume that they always would be running into enemies one at a time. They had to prepare, and she had an idea of what to do next.

Looking across the khalasar, she was able to pick out a certain three faces. There was Illyria, one of the earliest khalasar members. She had gone to fight against Zanza even though she was not trained as a warrior. For her loyalty and bravery, Daenerys would reward her.

Second, she chose Astucia Proteccio. She first met him when he saved another khalasar member's life. Again and again he'd proven himself to be not only a fierce protector, but a kind soul as well.

Third, she chose Rallie. The cerynei had been with them for a shorter time, but had given up more to follow her. He was massively built, and his strong frame would be perfectly suited for what she had in mind.

"Illyria, Astucia, Rallie," she called out. "I have something I'd like to discuss with you."

Illyria had been gently exercising her wing when she heard Daenerys call her name. Although she had been able to fly again it had been Yayo'jin's insistence that she continue to move it around even when she wasn't flying. So far it looked like the idea was working well. The mare had noted that there was no stiffening of the joint and for that she was glad. Ducking her head the mare quickly tore a mouthful of grass from the ground and chewed on it thoughtfully before moving over to hear what it was that Daenerys wished to discuss with them.

There was a little bit of surprise evident that she would be singled out by the Khaleesi but Illyria would see this out. What was of such great importance that Daenerys would have to discuss with her and the other two that she had named?

Astucia was stretching out under the shade of a tree, relaxing and enjoying the light breeze going through. He breathed the air and was just enjoying the day. As he stood up and stretched again, he heard Daenerys call out his name. It wasn't often that he ended up being called out on anything. He certainly wondered what she was going to tell him.

He rather lazily made his way over to her. The others were making their ways over as well. He stretched a bit more as he came to a stop in front of her.

Rallie was quick to heed the call. He had been keeping watch on one of the flanks of the herd, but he expected they could survive for some moments even without his watchful eyes. There had been no sign of danger in several days at any rate, and it seemed to be a rather safe area.

He was curious about why he and those specific other two had been called. Perhaps the queen was going to suggest some sort of special mission for them? If that was the case, he wasn't certain why Illyria had been invited. Rallie hadn't considered her as a warrior even though she had fought and had injuries to prove it. Nevertheless, Rallie nodded respectfully at her and Astucia as the three of them arrived.

Daenerys made certain to smile when the three of them arrived, to let them know that there was nothing to be worried about from this meeting. They were clearly a little confused and she didn't want them to think that there was some impending danger or reason for the three of them to be chastised.

"The three of you fought very bravely against the kalona Zanza," she told them. "Many of our other warriors did as well, but there is a particular reward that I would like to offer the three of you." She paused briefly, letting her words sink in before continuing. "In my homeland, there is a tradition of knighthood. While it would be impractical to inflict their vows and years of training upon you, there are other aspects of knighthood that I believe would be much easier utilized."

Knowing that she had to clarifiy, she did so with one additional sentence. "I would like to offer armor to the three of you, to be worn proudly in the service of the khalasar if you would accept it."

As the two stallions came forth Illyria caught the nod that Rallie had given to her and gave the stallion a perceptible nod in return. She didn't know much about either stallion from before the mission to capture Zanza. Now that she had had spent time mingling with the Khalasar she had picked up little bits of knowledge about the duo.

All that was temporarily forgotten though as Daenerys began to speak about knighthood; Illyria's ears pricked forward as she gave her complete attention to her Khaleesi. While the mare wasn't sold on the whole complexity of what knighthood entailed she realized that that wasn't why she was standing with two others. Apparently she was being singled out to receive armor? Illyria's eyes flicked to the side for a moment as she considered the offer. Obviously it seemed like it was a great privilege to receive this honor.

Although from what she had seen before armor seemed to slow down a Soquili. Perhaps there could be a way to modify this gift so that it would still be easy to move around. Finally it was the thought that she could use a little extra protection that sold the idea to Illyria. She allowed her gaze to meet Daenerys's before she spoke, "I am honored to be considered for this offer of yours. I will accept this gift gladly."

Feeling that something was amiss Illyria paused before adding, "Thank you."

Astucia watched the nod he was given, but kept his attention forward. Although he had been slow coming up to their herd leader, he certainly didn't want to be rude now that they were standing in front of her.

He listened intently to what she was saying. Armor seemed like a splendid idea. Of course, to him, so did going through the training of being a knight. Though armor would be a perfect way for them to defend against any future enemies of the herd.

"I will gladly accept this honor." He bowed to her. "Thank you very much for considering me."

Rallie felt a swelling of pride at Daenerys' offer. He was aware of the concept of knighthood but had not thought that Daenerys might institute some part of it in the herd. Though he was blessed with a body naturally well-suited for combat, he had experienced some amount of envy in the past when they passed by soquili decked out in armor or other such attire. He wouldn't have to worry about being bitten so much if he was covered in metal plates.

"I accept as well," he said, as if there could possibly ever be another answer for him. "Thank you." He wondered if he and Astucia were chosen due to their assistance in the execution of Zanza. That certainly had seemed to be some manner of turning point for his position in the khalasar.

Daenerys hadn't really expected them to decline, but it still pleased her to hear their acceptance. She nodded in turn to each of them, refolding her wings more neatly on her back after Rallie had spoken. "I am glad to hear of it," she said. "I have dispatched Ashemark to a herd in the nearby mountains." The raven had left the previous morning and was expected back with an answer at any moment. "In those mountains dwell a herd of soquili that call themselves dwarves. They are said to be able to work metal with their hooves and the hands of familiars. It is through them that the armor will be purchased... though I have heard that they have no love for dragons." She said this last bit with a note of dryness and a glance to where here three sunned on a warm rock not far away. She didn't relish the thought of leaving them behind when dealing with strangers, but she expected she'd have to for the sake of diplomacy.

"I do not believe that we'll be able to spend enough time at the forges for you to be fully armored, unfortunately." There was also the matter of price. She was certain that she could afford armor pieces for all three, but the cost to fully plate them might be more than they could easily bear. "So I ask that you consider what armor pieces you would find most useful. You know more of your fighting strategy than I, and can better consider where you most need protection."

A look of confusion filled Illyria's expression before she realized what was being said. It would be her decision as to what sort of armor that she wanted to receive. Her immediate thought after that was that she needed protection for her wings. Viserys had exposed a weakness when he had attacked her. However the more that she thought about that idea the more she came to reject it. She could not wear armor on her wings and still expect to be able to fly without a certain degree of difficulty tacked on.

Illyria gazed to the other two stallions before looking at Daenerys. She caught the metal bands around the mare's leg and began to formulate an idea. Perhaps she could find a way to work some protection onto her legs and still keep it light enough that it wouldn't encumber her too much.

"Daenerys, may I request a little more time to finalize my decision? I shall have an answer before we reach this herd and their forges. Will this be alright?"

Astucia nodded at Daenerys. He would think on what armor would be best for him. He didn't have much in the way of places to expose. Being able to fight had prepared him to keep his guard up and protect his weak spots.

He nodded to himself, thinking that he may have decided on the perfect place for his new armor. "When do you need our decision Daenerys?" He wanted to be sure that he had his idea mulled over by the one who will provide him with his armor.

"You may wait up until the moment that I speak with the smiths if you like," replied Daenerys. It was rather sudden and she didn't really expect them to have an answer right away. That was fine. "Think upon your answers and tell me when you are ready," she added. "You are welcome to join me when I go and speak to the smiths, so you may describe your desires directly to the artisans if you like." The dwarves would know best what was within their capabilities, after all. All Daenerys had to work with was based on the few armored soquili she had encountered previously.

Rallie nodded, but had nothing more to add at the moment. What part of him did he consider most in need of armor? Certainly not his head with its array of pointed antlers. Possibly something along his side to prevent attacks from that angle, and to leave movement available for his legs.

((I don't know that there's hugely much more to discuss here, so if you wanted to make scene closing posts, we could move onto the bit with the dwarves! But if you have more to say in this scene, you're welcome to!))

Hearing that she could take more time to think about what it was that she wanted for armor eased Illyria's mind. She nodded to Daenerys to show that she understood the situation. Her thoughts turned briefly to figure out what she wanted to ask for. What kind of armor would be light enough to fight with but sturdy enough to protect a vulnerable part of her body?

(( Um. Very weak scene closing post. Lol ))

Astucia nodded at Daenerys and took a step forward. "I am ready Daenerys." He stood there, ready to follow her to whatever place she had in mind for them. He was eager to meet whomever it was that was going to make his armor.

As he thought a bit more, he decided that he was going to give the artisan freedom with the design. Simply explaining to them as to why it was he wanted his neck covered instead of going for something in an area a bit more obvious.

"Very well," she said. "As soon as I hear word of the meeting time from one of our messenger ravens, we will depart." Deciding to keep the conversation brief, Daenerys left them to her thoughts. She needed to go speak to Ravindra about the condition of their stores of trading goods, after all.
