He liked work. He liked distractions. He liked moving and going places and having his mind feels with tasks. He liked not thinking hard about other things. He liked drifting through what he had to do, and because of this, he flooded his to-do list with as much as he could cram in order to keep thinking of what he needed to do next.
It helped him forget about the boxes in his room.
The space by his bed.
Rubbing his worn eyes, he chewed on some spearmint gum to mask the smell of what he drank that morning, and arrived through the double doors to the front desk. He glanced at the tech at the check-in desk before looking around for the girl he talked to on Twitter. Showing someone around the Infirmary was at least something he could manage.

Noemi was slipping her arm through her jacket as she rushed to the infirmary. She had been finishing her studies of medical care from the library books and had just checked twitter. Life trainee's and hunters seemed so nice to help her out here!
And with Lex gone for his trip, she had no one to watch and learn from. Thank goodness this..Mister Melvin! offered to show her.
"So..Sorry!" She came to stand in front of the other hunter, looking up at him. You know those midgets...yeah Noemi was one of them. Petite at 5'1, bright mess of red cropped curls.
"H..H..Hello. I'm Noemi. Mi..Mist huntress!" She nervously said, "I didn't..make you wait too long did I?"

She was short. He should have expected that, but he always was alarmed how so many grown hunters here looked as if they hadn't drank a glass of milk in their entire life. He seriously wanted to ask the Death division if shortness was a statistic in Hunters.
As for Melvin, he was tall, lank, with a slender muscle build. His uniform and clothes were pristine and clean, though the bags under his eyes betrayed he wasn't on top form. "I wasn't far. Just checking on some minipets in the labs." He informed her. He checked on Rin's pet. He checked on his own. He hadn't been working on his own projects lately.
"Have you been in the Infirmary before? Have you shadowed anyone so far?" He asked, not wanting to repeat the same things to her and wind up wasting both of their time. "Ah, I forgot." He offered a black-gloved hand to her. "I'm Melvin Wood. Life Intermediate Hunter. It's nice to meet you."

She took the hand and gently shook it.
"It's...It's nice to meet you Melvin." She offered him a nervous smile in return. He was very..um...she would like to say clean cut. Very...His clothes were very nice and his uniform looked fresh. She felt a little grubby but at the same time..
"I see! I helped Oliver out there once, I suppose I should do more there but..." her gaze drew to the infirmary. "I've been with Lex for a couple of patients! And I've cleaned rooms. I just like.." She searched for the right way to say it, "Um...¿Cómo decir...To learn a lot and different styles? If you'd show me around and..." She gave him a quizzical look, "anything you show me will help me either way!"

"Alright then. I'll go through a walk-through and explain what it the basic duties of the Infirmary. From there, you can decide what you would like to learn." He said, releasing her slender hand from his and turning. "Usually the Life division is always looking for anyone to fill in Infirmary duty. Like many of the divisions, this one doesn't sleep. There are always hunters coming in from missions from all around, and sometimes they get hard during larger missions. Sometimes those who aren't even trained at all will be asked to hold a IV bag or to grab something from the stock room. Even if it's something as simple as cleaning a spill, remember that you are freeing the time of the doctors and nurses who could be using their time to help save someone's life. Any help in the Infirmary is important." He informed her as he walked, making sure his strides weren't too large so as to make her run. Short people - small steps.
"Duties usually involve handing out food, making coffee, changing beds, cleaning bedpans and taking out trash. Medical waste is another subject all together and goes to a different place. Sometimes the nurses will call you over on slower days or when they really need the help and show you a few things. Bandaging is the first thing they teach you because changing bandages is something that will be asked of you if you do rounds here. If you really want to learn how to do bandaging for field use, I'd ask the Moons. There is also a course to be able to use runic bandages on the field."
He turned to her. "Have you done any runic courses yet?"

She kept up fairly well, as Melvin was, while still long legged, shorter then Lex. And Lex liked to rush around. Lex lived to rush around. He was a flurry of rushing around.
She should've brought a notebook. She understood most of the basics, knowing about the cleaning as she did that quite often. And she made a mental note to pass whichever training course allowed her runic bandages. At his question she looked up a little startled.
"I've done the Sun and Death course...and the Mist and Life." She gnawed on her lip, "But the only one I've passed is Death? I got very close for life." She didn't even want to mention the mist course, it was a nightmare.
"Um, I didn't realize...I've taken food to patients..once or twice. What do you mean by...um..Medical waste?"

"If you need help completing the Life course or any others, tell me. I still have to complete mine and it's easier being motivated by someone else. I'm not a -" He paused, faltering in his step just slightly before resuming his pace. "-I'm not a good fighter, but I can at least help." It was all he was good for. To help those more capable than him. At this point, even a fresh trainee was less of a burden than he was.
He just got others hurt.
"I plan on completing all the courses I haven't finished. It is good to have all the clearance you can. Bandages and Daggers are vital for the Moon and Life division, but everyone should have them."
He turned into a empty room and stopped inside. " The oranges containers on the counter there, with the biohazard-looking symbol on it, is medical waste. Used needles mainly. Anything not safe for the trash. There are medical waste trash bins in the back room to properly dispose of them. When you inspect the rooms, put on gloves to keep yourself safe. Even though hunters are less able to get sick due to our Fear shields and healing, you still need to be safe."
He checked the containers on the counter and the opened the drawers. "This room needs stocked and..." He glanced to the bed and the checked the bathroom. "The IV stand needs brought back to the main equipment room." He took the IV stand, devoid of any bags, and held it out for her to take. "I'll show you where we keep everything in case anyone asked for it."
He opened the door for her. "Havr you ever worked in a hospital or anything like that?"

"That would be...be so Nice Mister Melvin." Noemi breathed out, "I was with another trainee when we did it, so I didn't get to quite finish it. Perhaps I can ask you another day to help me? You...you're already doing so much for me...today?"
"I think it is requirement for mist hunters to finish...all of our...all of the trainings?" She gave him a awkward lopsided smile, "as well as a training left by one of the full mist hunters...Miss Candace? I don't know her but I've done part of her training."
She followed him into the room, noting locations he pointed out and the uses they had. "I see." She nodded, her hands reaching out to put on latex gloves like he instructed. "Y..Yes. Sometimes I forget...cause of weapon healing?" She shook her head, "That we have human bodies still. We...we are not superheroes...but we try."
"What would you like me to bring in here?" She followed him back out, "I have not! I use to work on farm a lot. Um planting and harvesting but...we had animals too. I used to take care of animals with Papi. It's not hospital but I've seen large wounds on animals so it...makes it a little easier here."

Nyxtsuki Moon Sorrry for the big posts.
"We'll need some te needles restocked and the tongue depressed and a towel for the bathroom since it's missing an extra one. They probably forgot when cleaning up."
He lead her to a stock room marked 'Infirmary Staff Only.' "The sign is just to keep people out from taking whatever they want. This is the stick room and the equipment storage is next to it. The wall was lined with metal shelving with containers and boxes and he pointed to a door marked "Equipment." "Go and just place that IV stand in that room. There should be a row of them by the wall."
When she came back, he picked up a container and put in tongue depressors and a handful of individually wrapped needles. "There are carts here if you do a whole set of rooms, but we'll just do this one room. From there it's just being familiar with the stock room. If they ask for equipment, that's the room you need. IV stands. Wheelchairs. Stuff like that."
"Linens are in the next room with the washing machines." He took her to te next room where bedspreads, towels, and pillowcases were kept. He grabbed a towel.
"Are you good with plants?" He asked. He wondered if she would be as good as Noah in helping with the greenhouse. Maybe she knew how to finish the watering system. Would Rin be upset he let someone she hadn't approved of in her greenhouse?

Noemi tilted her head thoughtfully. "Only a little bit! When I first came here, I couldn't believe all the pain...the wounds and such. Different from animals but if I think...If I tell myself to think like that, then it's not so bad." She moved around, grabbing what he asked from the infirmary staff room as well as dropping of the IV stand with the others.
She hummed at the linens, one of the only places she had known thanks to changing bedpans and beds all together. The stock room had been so close, she needed to remember that.
His question earned a "Mmhmm" and "Raised lots of vegetables and herbs and flowers....Though I heard..." She shifted some of the supplies. "That plants are hard to grow here? Unless exposed to fear for long time? Is this true?"

Melvin held the door open for Noemi before they headed back to the patient room. "Well, plants do well here. They don't seem to be affected by the Fear in the area. If they were, I'd suspect we'd have a lot of tentacle plants trying to grow over the base. I think it's something to do with the fact that a plant doesn't have a core like an animal or human does. It's why we have such a huge jungle on the island but not one that is trying to take over the island."
He headed back to the patient room, held the door open for her, and walked inside. "There is actually a greenhouse here that my girlfriend started. She's.... away from the island at the moment, and it is just Noah and I handling it right now. I'm not an expert though. If you ...might want to help.." He was sure Rin would hate him for it, but he really wasn't prepared to take care of a greenhouse on his own.

"Th..Thank you!" She rushed out in front of him, then waited for Melvin to take the lead again. "I had not known! That makes me happy to hear. At..At the plants doing well." She rubbed the back of her head. "T..T..Tentacle plants?!?!" She whispered with a bit of worry. Why..why would they have that!?!?
"Core?" She looked at Melvin, "Like...organs?" Because if that was the case, then she'd have to specifically write out a lot of plants. Unfortunately, plants were living creatures, that did have body systems different then humans and animals. At least most plants did. Some plants had systems close to animals. That would even eat other animals!
"Do...Do you think she would mind me visiting then?" Noemi looked up at him, "I don't...I don't want to step into something she'd be working hard on!"

"They plants are doing fine...as far as I can tell. It helps that I have Noah who knows more about them. I only helped Rin do cleanup and a few chores. She usually kept her eyes on anything dealing with the actual care of the plants. She....left rather suddenly. I have had to make do on my own for the time being." He admitted, feeling his stomach twist as he paused in putting away the needles.
He finally shut the drawer and looked back to her. "I'm not very sure about the details with plants, but it seems that in the jungle growing naturally and in the greenhouse, there isn't enough Fear around to affect them. Not like ti would animals. I believe it's because how are souls...are beings as living things, react. It's all very complicated. I'm sure there are books in the library if you want to read up about how Fear affects mammals as opposed to plants. The greenhouse that is up now was part of a dropped project in the past. I still think they are unsure of how the specifics work."
For the last part, he shrugged. "If she has a problem, I will say it was my idea and apologize. I think she would be more upset that all her plants suffered when she was away." He admitted, and then looked around. "Do you have any more questions about the Infirmary?"
