Quote: Reconnaissance Mission S86 Location: The Sahara Desert (North Africa) Images:: x, x, xx General debriefing: The Sahara has been a strong hold of the Horseman Clans for millenia. Current events have created a demand for more widespread observation of the area, as well as a need for greater experience with the region among Hunters and trainees.
Duties include: Upkeep of base. Acclimatization. Regular patrols. Observe and record any aberrations found within the area. Capture specimens. Destroy threats to the human populace. Flagging A and S class threats for special dispatch.
Bring supplies for at least a three day stay as a base. Modified desert uniforms and gear are available from the Quartermaster. Extra charged runes are recommended.
* C class difficulty level (must have a team of three to five, at least one of them must be an intermediate trainee) MECHANICS * MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse for Reconnaissance Mission S86. You will roll at least 1 daily prompt for each of the hunters on the team, unless the mission ends early due to injury or further enemy interference. Daily Prompts: roll 1 d100 1: The ground shakes beneath your feet and cracks begin to appear in the distance when out of the sand a massive sand worm the size of the Empire State Building bursts out. Between its many segments you see tiny flashes of light that upon (dangerously) closer inspection appear to be suits of armour and weapons. Weapons with glowing runic marks. It towers above you and then smashes down upon the camp, destroying it easily. Roll 2d20 to determine your injuries. Your options are to either portal home and report, or stay and fight the creature known as The Armoury (HP: 9999) 2 - 10: Nothing happens. 11 - 20: An unusually large swarm of insects pass by the camp. They seem to pause and hover, blanketing the camp for several moments before moving on. 21 - 30: You find a stone stairway that leads to vine-covered underground temple, red flowers blooming all along its walls. You begin to hear voices, both strange and familiar. Should you get injured at any point during this, the vines will enter your body and begin growing inside your hunter. They will grow more paranoid as the days pass as well as hallucinating, the vines becoming visible under their skin after one day, and then blooming the next. Bringing them back to Deus will end their part in the mission, as they will need a two day day infirmary stay to be rid of the plants. A flower or vine-like scar will remain on their person. 31 - 60: Horsemen appear and attack your camp or patrol group. ((These can be either player character horseman you invite to battle (which will make your base RP points PVP points and worth 2 instead of 1 rp point) or you can battle against an automob who you will be able to possibly capture.)) Horseman AutoMob (clan/appearance/name are your choice, though do follow the horseman guidelines for such) HP: 60 Auto Damage: 5 Special: Should you bring their HP to either 0 exactly or 1, then you may viably capture them and bring them back to Deus. (Bonus Pay: $3000) otherwise they simply escape or dissipate. 61 - 70: Nothing happens 71 - 80: You discover an underground oasis. It's very enjoyable. 81 - 90: You fall through the sand into a stone room. Along the floor are piles of body parts. One of the piles begins to move, then several more. Roll 1d20 to escape back up the way you came or destroy a wall with your weapon. You must roll 11 or higher to succeed. Failure causes you to be mobbed by the creatures. Before you pass out, you notice their features changing to match your own. When you wake up, you are naked and alone except for your weapon's totem. You either escape under your own power or are rescued by your teammates. 91: Nothing happens. 92: You're attacked by figures of bone and rotting flesh, they move both mindlessly and as a unit, as it they were puppets. Corpse Mob: HP:30 Auto Damage: 3 Special: Every time you miss the auto damage is 6 instead of 3. When they are defeated they simply collapse into parts. 93: Nothing happens. 94 - 99: A sandstorm locks you into the base for the rest of the day. No more prompts may be rolled for that day. 100: Moths shot through with silvery veins begin to form a female figure. (post quote lizbot) * 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Departure
Rep was ******** sick of being stuck on the island non stop, absolutely sick of it. Whenever something interesting happened to the rest of the island lately he'd managed to miss it - even the encounter at the tower had left them all more vulnerable than they were before. He was done sitting around, he wanted to be out there on the front lines attacking the ******** who actually deserved it, and the best way to do so was to organize it himself.
He'd picked up a mission folder, and then trying not to get too concerned with whether people would reject his invitation or not, he chose a few names from his phone to invite along on his little jaunt. Ever seemed like a good guy from the conversations they'd had, so he got an invite, Hannah was a Death and it was always handy to have one or more of them on missions to the Sahara, they had the highest chance of knowing what the ******** they were dealing with. Kostya, well Kostya was a cold guy, but he was practical and most likely wouldn't randomly murder him when he was useful and tough. It would do.
Texts sent, he waited at the lighthouse portal, dressed in his official gear, all pockets and runics with his artifacts glowing dimly in the early evening light.
(( With the daily prompts the way I wanted to do it was that people would title each daily prompt as if it was a drabble and other people can also react as necessary, people are also free to assume they were scouting solo etc. All of it for the sake of more interaction and so people don't need to feel like because they rolled another prompt they can't react to someone else's.))

Ever, at least, was going to show: he'd only been home for a few days, and maybe his last mission had been creepy as all hell, but all things considered it had been better than mopping mini s**t. And this time, unlike the last, he'd come prepared. His bag, actually filled with supplies, even if it was mostly changes of boxers and some pillaged rations. Fresh coat, modified, from the quartermaster. Hair cleanly cropped, up above his ears so that you could see his eyes, so that he didn't look quite so young and shaggy. New boots shined up. And, even more than that, he'd put on better clothes -- pants without holes in them, a shirt you couldn't see through. He had, perhaps, dressed up. Just a little. As much as he could, though. It seemed Ever was the first of the summoned crow to arrive, and as he approached, he couldn't quite help the grin that spread across his mouth -- looking Rep over and tugging a hand free from his pocket to offer in a shake. "Well, you look like a million bucks. That's hardly fair." But he sounded cheerful as he said it, and would take his place next to Rep comfortably enough, adjusting the battered strap of his bag as he did.

Departure Hanna was going back to the Sahara on purpose. She had about enough of the bad dreams and anxiety around that location, around the memory of being eaten, and, of course, the charming moment when those bugs burrowed their way out of her flesh like maggots surfacing on a corpse. Ah, memories. The goal-oriented Death trainee had set out on a mission to rid herself of these troublesome feelings through the fine art of exposure. The more she faced the thing she feared, the less fearful she would become. She'd read about it in a psychology textbook somewhere, probably. So she'd put in a request for an external mission there, and to her surprise, it was granted no less than a week later -- thanks to Rep. Immediately, Hanna sort of regretted it. She assumed it would take longer to actually get the assignment, but as the Death Hunter who passed down the basic details to her had so casually explained, "Keep losing people out there, lots of openings." Excellent. Like Ever, Hanna had dedicated some extra time to her clothing selection. She never attended her senior prom, but part of her imagined this is what people must feel like on that day, the irritable fretting, and she was immediately glad that her fretting was at least over something more serious than how her a** might appear in a dress. She arrived just after Ever, wearing sensible, lightweight clothes that covered the majority of her skin. Her backpack was something she had recovered from storage and had definitely seen better days, but she did her best to patch it up. The straps were tied up so high that it hung erect off her back, like a turtle shell. Inside were probably too many provisions, spare clothes, sturdy goggles, and a neatly organized filing folder of what she considered to be all the relevant information -- plus a notepad for additional copious note-taking. The grass squeaked beneath her boots as she sidled up awkwardly to the pair. She started to wave, but then thought better of it, which left her hand sort of hanging in the air. Good thing she was incredibly smooth and passed it off as readjusting her hair. Or something. "Hello," Hanna jutted in. "Just us then, or?" She recognized Rep from Twitter, though this was their first face-to-face encounter. Ever was also familiar to her, though she couldn't remember why. He did have a unique look, perhaps that was it. Without thinking, Hanna began to sway on her feet, like a child excited and nervous for the first day of school.

Departure It had been quite some time since Kostya had been on a mission that was both small scale and officially sanctioned. Since before his promotion, to be sure. Besides. He was growing fond of the sahara. He'd chosen light clothing beneath his coat, which was rolled up to the elbows in preparation for the heat. His numerous pockets had a number of supplies, as did his sidebag. He hated being unprepared, and it showed. Rep was familiar, even if he had only seen the man in person a handful of times outside of missions, and the other two he could recognise from twitter. "Sorry to be late," he said, nodding slightly. "But am ready to go vhen all are."

Departure
Rep didn't enjoy the Sahara as much as he did the Arctic and Antarctic, but he was still - in a general sense - all right with the sandy hellhole. Bad s**t happened there, but bad s**t could happen ******** when you were a hunter. Ever was first to show and that gained him a few positive marks in Rep's book. Looking the other man over, he was sure he appeared different from when he'd seen him last, though Rep wasn't quite observant enough to figure out in what way, he looked older somehow but that could just have been the island getting to him already.
He gave him an accidentally finger-crushing handshake and returned the grin. "I ******** wish" he said. "More like twenty cents. But the desert will see that get even ******** worse, ******** sunburn." Rep smelled faintly of expensive sunscreen but even that probably wouldn't be enough in the long run for the few exposed areas of skin once he got there.
Hanna also got a relatively friendly greeting. "One more." he said, already deciding that he'd made a good choice with this team, the Death huntress looked just as well prepared as Ever.
Kostya of course was prepared as Rep knew he'd be. He'd spotted the efficiency of the other man during the work on the bar and he gave him a nod before turning to lead the way into the portal
((Feel free to roll prompts past this point biggrin ))

After the meet and greet -- handshakes and a too wide smile all around -- it was through the portal and to their duties: This wasn't exactly what Ever expected from a C Class mission in the Sahara. Everything he'd heard about the place was enough to make him wary, should have been enough to have him turn down the assignment. In fact, the only reason he accepted Rep's offer was because it was Rep's offer: thinking about the size of that axe and the easy magic the hunter had wielded was reassuring to a trainee. He had heard of danger. Horsemen, like they'd seen at the tower. Strange beasts wandering out of the desert to attack them. Something supernatural. Instead he found himself cleaning. Again. Scrubbing and checking to make sure stocks were full, pacing the boundaries of the camp, having a quick smoke out back somewhere when no one was paying attention. There were no aberrations, and no samples to collect. Just sand.

Under SiegeIt had been a quiet morning, but the quiet didn't last for long. The whipping sand around the camp refused to subside, revealing a mottled-skin creature arriving atop a huge beetle, jeweled and glittering in the sun. "Hostile!" Kostya barked, summoning Syntax on the run, the cool metal wrapping around his arm in a familiar weight, staring up at the intruder with hackles raised. hp// 50 dmg// n/a Quote: 31 - 60: Horsemen appear and attack your camp or patrol group. Under Seige
Rep had enjoyed the peace while it lasted, it had been time to get his s**t organized and get a look at the camp and its surroundings. However, there was only so much peace and quiet he could tolerate and by the time Kostya's call rang out, he was itching for a fight.
Tracey was summoned in a tear of blackness and he charged the creature, running on sheer Sun instinct, he didn't have to be told twice. Hostiles received one welcome in his books and that welcome was staring down the sharp end of an axe. He aimed first of all for the mount the creature was riding, because like ******** he wanted to get trampled. Tracey cleaved the creature's carapace, savoring the jolt of fear that resulted and Rep threw his entire weight and that of the substantial axe into holding the horseman steady and still enough someone else could land further blows on it.

Kostya was man enough to admit the envy that curled around his heart, seeing a Sun in action. Rep did everything all the way or not at all, and while it was unfortunate in personal dealings (most of the time), it was remarkably effective here.
He fired off a blast from a distance, then another, but both went wide. The horseman flung its bolas with little hesitant, catching him around the neck with it before it dissipated back into fear, resummoned in its skeletal hand.

Under Siege
The winds didn't bother him: dark eyes narrowed against the sun, milking the last doses of nicotine from a cigarette past its prime, Ever just watched the way the sands whipped up, the noise and the fuss. If nothing else, this was his first time to the desert, any desert, and so he drank in the sight of it --
Until a cry went up, a boom in the distance, a buzzing sound that brought his head up and sent him running. He'd be puffing lightly by the time he got there, to blink at the strange creature, but at least he didn't hesitate. His time at the tower had taught him that much.
Instead he swung at the creature's mottled leg, wincing as the winds buffeted him back.

Under SeigeKostya kept on the move, a dodging target for the horseman. His face stayed perfectly passive, save for the slightest knitting of brows in concentration. "Famine?" he asked, shouting over the din as he fired off a series of concussive blasts, some of them finally landing. Kostya was, for the most part, unfamiliar with horsemen, but he knew from the basics that this clan was the most fond of exactly where they were: The Sahara. "Looks like it!" Rep called out to Kostya. He was mostly familiar with War and Conquest as far as the clans went but he'd run into enough Famine at the nightmare on the four islands to recognize their hallmarks. "Wouldn't be half bad to ******** bring it home eh?"
The insect bucked free of Tracey but just as swiftly as it did he brought the blade around once more, pulling its legs out from under it with the hook only to swing the weapon around again to attack the rider.

"Bring it back?" Ever landed a good scrape along the creatures side even as he turned to look back toward Kostya and Rep in something like horror: in his mind envisioning the bug on a stretcher with horseman beside it. Lugging that through the portal. It wasn't the idea of keeping a sentient creature in a cage that bothered him so much as having to touch it.
"We'll have to find a stretcher -- " He was caught from behind and sent tumbling into the sand before he could finish the thought.
