Ah...there was nothing like summer in a meadow with the flowers were all in bloom. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but color; white and purple clovers, yellow daffodils, and red poppies against the bright green of the grass. It looked lovely, it smelled wonderful...and it tasted great, if Corwin did say so himself. It had been hours since he's stumbled upon this meadow, and he still felt no desire to leave. He was very grateful to Hayalet for taking in he and Coralia, but flutters could never be truly at home in the mountains. It was just too barren up there, and the flowers? Well, they tried, but inevitably failed.

Corwin sighed happily and flopped down amidst the flowers. He'd shifted back to his normal Soquili size after eating, but that was as far as he'd gotten. Yes, he needed to head back up to the plateau at some point today; if he didn't appear after a reasonable time his sister might just set up a search party and come after him. But it was only early afternoon; he had plenty of time to get back. And the flowers...they called to him!

Caleigh was having the same sentiments as Corwin, it seemed. But then, she always loved being around the flowers! The mare could always be found somewhere with flowers. She was constantly talking to them, taking care of them, and sometimes just taking a break to.. well, smell the roses! It wasn't that she disliked being around others, she was extremely friendly to those she crossed paths with, there was just something about flowers that called to her. As you can imagine, winter was a very sad time for her, but early summer was a spectacular time for flowers so she was in heaven!

She happened to be wandering through the same patch of flowers Corwin was in today. Caleigh was always very careful to where she stepped, flowers were delicate after all! Occasionally she would pause to nose at a flower or even say hello to a couple. She was so absorbed in the flowers she blinked at almost stepping on something very large that was indeed not a flower... but seemed to be trying to pretend it was one? Her nose bent to sniff curiously at Corwin's wings, since that was what she had nearly stepped on, and followed his black and white pattern up to his head. Oh, another like her! "Goodness, I'm sorry, I almost stepped on you. I'm so careful not to step on flowers I end up almost stepping on my own kind!" she laughed.

Corwin was not a completely oblivious stallion, and it would have taken an oblivious stallion to miss the approach of a full-sized Soquili mare. That wasn't to say that the mare was being particularly loud; still, the rustle of the plants, the light tread of her footsteps, the light tones of her voice as she chatted up the plants that caught her eye...all of these things drew Corwin's attention to the mare's presence long before she nearly stepped on his wing. But she had sounded like she was enjoying herself, and he was in turn enjoying listening to her. It only added to his conviction that this meadow was a happy place, a place to go and be contented.

When the mare almost literally stumbled over him, Corwin finally acknowledged her directly, giving the mare a friendly smile. "Dinna worry yehrself on my accoont; yeh wehre in nae danger o' hurten' meh." With a slight flutter of his wings, Corwin pulled himself up from the ground and stood facing the mare; as a flutter, he was a small stallion and nearly faced the mare eye-to-eye. "I hope yeh dinna thenk meh rude, but I couldna help bu' overhear yeh makin' yehr way aboot the meadow. Yeh sounded as if yeh wehre enjoyin' yehrself, sae I was tryin' to lay low, let yeh go aboot yehr business, loike. But I am pleased yeh made yehr way this way, it is nice tae ken oothers are loikin' this place as well."

Caleigh was momentarily distracted by the stallion's unique accent. She certainly hadn't expected that! Honestly, she wasn't completely sure if she heard everything he had just said to her. "My you have a fantastic voice. I've never heard any quite like it." Her smile was bright and she seemed to study him like one of her flowers, searching for some indication of where he would have picked up an accent like that.

"My apologies, sir, my name is Caleigh. I was very much enjoying myself! But then, I usually do surrounded by beautiful flowers. The warmer months are my favorites because there's so many different ones all in bloom. Colors and scents, it's all so amazing!"

Whoops. She was babbling. "Goodness, I'm sorry. I tend to get a little carried away when it comes to flowers." It was a bit of an understatement. "May I ask where you are from?"

Corwin hadn't been expecting any comment on his voice, but he shouldn't have been surprised. He and Cora had travelled a long time to come to these lands, and it was only natural that the accent would be different in another region. Hayalet, their current host, certainly didn't sound like them! Still, he blushed slightly at the compliment; it was nice to know that even if he stuck out, it was sticking out in a nice way!

"Yeh're vehry koind, Caleigh; I dinna always ken joost how diff'rent I soond from the local population, loike." He chuckled at that, the blush diminishing and his natural paleness standing out once more, marked only the light criss-crossing of scars on his side. "But yeh soond loike yeh share mehy thoughts on the meadow; ahs a flooter, yeh can say I have a vested int'rest in the flowers." Corwin grinned then, gesturing to the flowers around them with a wide sweep of his wings. "Thehs is a true buffet for meh; a buffet for the nose, eyes, and stoomach as wehl. Sae yeh dinna nehd tae apologize for yehr passion, no' tae me."

Smiling, he gestured for Caleigh to make herself comfortable. "Mehy name is Corwin, but yeh kin call me Cory, if'n yeh loike. I'm originally froom fahr away, beyoond the mountains, loike, but meh sester an' I have settled in these lands an' hoope tae be makin' a go of it. Sae far, I am impressed." Nodding, he looked around at the beautiful landscape, the multi-colored hues of the meadow, he and the mare as well. "Are yeh a local of thehse parts?"

Caleigh couldn’t help but smile, he seemed like such a nice stallion, and he didn’t laugh at her love of flowers! Not that anyone had laughed at her before, sometimes she just kind of expected it since it wasn’t very normal. "Oh yes, I adore flowers. I tend to have more interactions with plants than with others who can actually talk back to me," she laughed a little. "Which I don’t mind. Although it does get quiet in the winter when most of the flowers have gone."

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Corwin. I suppose I could be called a native, I’ve been here for a couple years now. It must be nice to have your sister come with you, then it isn’t as scary going to a new place, I’m glad you are enjoying it so far though! I think there’s a lot of things here to enjoy whether you’re like us who loves the flowers or someone who likes forests, mountains, or even the ocean. There’s lots to see!"

Truth be told, Corwin did want to laugh at Cayleigh, but not because she loved flowers. No, he would NEVER feel inclined to laugh at someone for displaying such an obvious, logical passion; flowers were wonderful! But he had to admit that the idea of spending more time talking with flowers than with Soquili was amusing to him, and he responded to her explanation with a wide grin. "Well, I have tae be confessin' that yeh seem to indulge in yehr love o' flowers in a way I've neyver though' tae try moyself; I've always joost though' that flowers were there tae be enjoyed by us, no' tha' they might want some enjoyment o' theyre own!" Chuckling, he glanced about at the spreading carpet of flower before looking back at Cayleigh. "At any rate, yeh have a wunn'erful variety o' conversation pairtners here!"

Chuckling again, he bobbed his head in response to her explanation of residency. "Well, yeh're far more native tae these lands than I, sae native is wha' I'll thenk o' yeh as. Seein' tha' yeh're still here, it musna be a bad place tae live. Cora an' I havena been here fehr very loong, but weh are findin' it moost tae our loikin' sae far." Beaming, he looked around at the meadow once more, breathing deeply in the scents of flowers, fresh grass, and summer. "It's noice tae be able tae enjoy a place sae thoroughly, wi'oot havin' tae worry about wha' moight be lurkin' aroond the next turn, loike."
