Paperwork
She signed the report and then let out a large sigh. Done. For the day at least. Maybe for a while.
She shook her head as she stood, shuffling the papers, organizing them. No, she had plans. Those plans would lead to more reports.
Ooop! Missing a paperclip. Sherry paused to grab one and attach it to the paper. Then it was time to continue towards the door. Drop these off, then off to file even more papers.

Paperwork
For a job filled with danger and death, there sure was an awful lot of papers to fill out.
It seemed half of her time was spent headed to drop off reports, or off to obtain the proper papers for whatever she needed.
Her foot stopped tapping as the secretary/tech person reappeared. "Ah, thank you," she said, taking the offered papers. Oh. Gee. It was...actually less of a pile than she'd anticipated.
She shared a friendly smile with the person behind the counter, and then stepped over to the side and pulled out her pen. She should be able to fill these out right here, right now. No extra trips needed.

In-house Shopping
"That's highway robbery!" Sherry stared at the man, doing all she could to look appalled.
He shrugged. "It's fresh. I have some stale bread if you want, for half off. Otherwise- you know where the portal is."
Sherry stared at him. He stared back.
Finally, she sighed. "Robbery," she told him as she took out her wallet. Honestly. Just because she wanted some fresh goods. Not that...it was really a surprise. People who kept stores of things was not too uncommon. Inflated prices weren't either. And she really could go buy her own. But she was saving her leave. With any luck, she'd get to use it to take Jake somewhere nice...that wasn't a work related research trip.
She handed over the money and walked away with a bag full of groceries.

The Voice Inside My Head
"I'm a terrible person."
"No, really. I'm selfish and clingy and I talk way too much-"
"But that's not his fault, Armagnac. It's mine."
"Ha. No. Anyway. I could be better."
"Yes. Better at that, too. Don't worry. I'll get you down to the training fields soon."
"I promise."
"No."
"No.
"Nope."
"Okay. Yeah. That sounds nice."
"I don't know though. Do you think...."
"Ha. You would say that."

In the Mirror
There was always something to worry about. One mission, one wrong turn, one accident. It made it difficult to NOT be stressed, to NOT worry about the future. It was easier, though, before. When she'd only had acquaintances and not friends. Before she'd stumbled upon Jake and found whole parts of her life flipped over and unsettled.
Now though... Now it was harder.
She still knew, still understood that she was a soldier in a war. A cog in a machine. They all were. They all were meant to fight and all willing to die for the cause. Anyone who wasn't... those were the people that would break. Sherry... was still willing to die, she hoped. She told herself she was.
But that didn't mean she was ready to lose anyone. Not anyone else.
Even if she had to. She knew... she'd have to say goodbye to others down the road. And it hurt to think about it. It hurt so, so much.
Sherry shook her head, pushing the thoughts away. "Now is not the time for thinking like that." She wiped away a tear.
There were other things to do.

In the Kitchen
She might have been upset at how expensive they were, but she WAS glad to have the groceries. Everything she needed to make a lovely little picnic.
The bread could have been nicer, but really, it WAS bread, so she couldn't complain too much. Bread, some ham, mayonnaise, cheese, and a tiny bit of roast beef. That had been a little ridiculous price-wise, but it seemed like a good idea.
She hoped it would be a good idea.
Sherry paused, one piece of bread in her hand. "I'm so stupid." That wasn't the right word, maybe, but it was close. Who, really, WHO decided to have a picnic when exploring a potentially dangerous place that was called a sunken cavern? Who? Sherry, that was who.
But...she really, really wanted to do something nice for Jake. He was going with her after all. And after... after... Sherry blushed, letting her mind wander wander back to the previous evening. Her gaze shifted to the bed a few times, even though she tried to keep it on the sandwiches.
She was going to make the best sandwiches.
And she needed a kitchen, too.

In the Kitchen (that she doesn't really have)
How many sandwiches were too many? Was eight too many?
Sherry didn't know. Hopefully it wasn't, because she was shoving them all in the bag anyway. Along with some carrots (pre-cut). Hrm. She should see about finding something else. Though...Jake wasn't really a dessert person.
Water though. She'd pack water. That was a good idea to have in any case. And she had wine...
"No." She shook her head. That was only for emergencies on missions.
Sighing the sigh of one who had finished their task, Sherry zippered the bag closed. There all packed and ready to go.
She walked across the room and climbed onto her bed. The pillows still smelled like Jake, and that made her smile. Maybe...maybe she'd have a little nap before it was time to head out. No point in not being rested.
