Welcome to Word Play

1. Basic Information and Rules
2. The Whistle-Stop Tour
3. FAQ and How You Can Help

Welcome, weary traveller, to Word Play: a dedicated roleplaying guild with a bent for full sentences and a love of people who do their best to utilise correct grammar and spelling.

I am Flynn_macCallister, and the captain of this guild, and therefore I am the person you should contact/shout at/whinge to when something goes wrong.

We also have a guild mule, The_Wordsmith, to whom any donations should be directed, and from whom all news and proaganda shall come. He shall add you as a friend when you join the guild.

Oh, speaking of things going wrong, I suppose I should explicity state...

The Guild Rules

1. The Gaian TOS and Rules & Guidelines still apply in all guilds. Please bear this in mind.
I also have to bring to your attention that, according to the TOS, we are meant to "keep it PG-13".
I, personally, am not entirely sure what this means, as we don't have the same ratings system as the United States, but it is a safe bet to assume that it means no overt sexy bits, and keep a lid on the gore.

2. Harrassment of any form will not be tolerated. That includes picking on an individual within a roleplay. If you feel that you are being unfairly treated, let me know, and I shall see what can be done to resolve the issue. (Hopefully, any such cases will be simple misunderstandings.)
If the problem continues, you should report the offending individual in the normal way.

3. OOC is fine within a roleplay, as long as it is brief, and relevant to the roleplay.
There is an out-of-character forum, General Banter for more in-depth conversation. Or less in-depth conversation. However, spam, and promoting your own enteprises is strongly discouraged. That is what sigs are for.

4. Please, no "l33t", "chatspeak", "txt slang", et cetera, (unless for the purpose of parody).
I am sure there is no need to say this.

5. Recruitment relies on exposure. Exposure relies on advertising. In order to grow this guild into a bustling, thriving roleplaying community, we need you to carry the guild banner in your sig.
... This is not really a rule as such, more a request. But it would be deeply appreciated if you would follow it.

The Whistle-Stop Tour

[o] The Main Forum: This, of course, is where all the roleplaying threads belong. No Out Of Character, profiles, or background threads here, please.
Anyone can start a roleplay here at any time. If people will play it, and if it does not violate the TOS and guild rules, we don't mind at all.

[o] Supporting Material: This subforum is the place to keep your profiles threads, backgrround and NPC information, and whatever other supporting material which may be required for your roleplay.
Note, however, that there is no requirement for your roleplay to have any supporting material at all. We do not even insist upon profiles: it is up to the individual GM to decide what is neccessary.

[o] General Banter: The out-of-character subforum. Feel free to talk about anything you please here.
Also native to this forum are the Roleplay Proposals. These threads have a [P] preceeding their title, and are used by guild memebers to gauge the interest in their roleplay idea before casting it out into the main forum. While not essential, the feedback on these can provide highly useful information to a prospective GM.

[o] The Filing Cabinet: This is the Elephants' Graveyard of roleplays. All those threads whose vital spark has been extinguished end up here. Why not deleted? It is possible to revive them, and to salvage ideas from these once-great roleplays.

Frequently Asked Questions

- How do I start a roleplay?
Anyone may start a roleplay at any time. However, we do recommend that you post an "RP proposal" thread (with it's title preceeded by "[P]" ) in the General Banter subforum.

NOTE: You can also advertise an individual rpg in the Barton OOC, even though it is in a guild.

Helpful tips on getting people interested: Make it very clear that the guild does not cost anything to join, and explain that the guild join request form only requires the same information you would ask members to PM to you anyway for a literate rp.

- Should I have my own profiles thread, or should I just post them in the roleplay ones?
If the GM wants the character profiles for his or her roleplay in once place, as is commonly the case, please respect that. If you also want your own thread of profiles, for example containing premades, or so that you can link to it from a non-guild location (e.g. if you commonly play in Barton Town), feel quite free to do this as well.

- Where can I advertise my guild/thread/giveaway?
In your sig. If you have your own guild, however, and would like to affiliate, PM me (Flynn), and we shall see what we can do.

- Who is "The_Wordsmith" and why am I getting messages from him?
The_Worsmith is our guild mule. His main purpose is the easy distribution of information to guild members, but he also acts as the guild bank. The funds donated to the guild itself cannot be used for anything other than purchasing subforums. Therefore, if we want to hold competitions or distribute rewards, we need a guild mule. He is therefore also the account to donate to if you have a sudden attack of philanthropy.

How You Can Help

Right now, as for any young guild, our biggest interest is recruitment, and getting new roleplays started.

- We now have a brilliant assortment of banners: please put one in your sig!

- Advertising threads in the main forum:

The guild:
[o] -- in Registered Guilds

Specific RPGs:
[The Orb of the Prophecy] -- In Barton OOC

If you want to start up a roleplay, you can post a recruiment thread in Barton OOC. Remember to make it clear that the guild is free to join, and that the join form requirements are just the same as you would ask to be sent to yourself for a literate roleplay anyway. PM me the link to the Barton OOC thread and I will post it up here.
