SMS Thraen:

Kallichore, how are you? Its been a while since we last checked in. Did you hear from the other Jovians if any would be willing to at least come hear of the Watch? Or why you'd not heard any word from the two I'd talked to- Valhalla and Babylon?
Second thoughts-
Maybe this is all related easier face to face? Are you on patrol tonight? I could meet you somewhere. I'm currently at the university, at the cupola.

Which was quiet. All the campus was quiet of late, only the pared-down summer session courses running and most of the student body gone home for the seasonal break. At least there was a breeze tonight, as well as much light from the waxing moon. With so little sleep anymore, he couldn't muster the excuse to run about, and chose to wait on moving until he heard back from the other eternal.

Would she be a candidate for an executrix? I suppose it would matter if she felt up to being around that much, available that much. Outgoing that much. It is so much to ask of anyone, and yet that is the call of the Watch- many hands to make lighter loads while getting things accomplished. I can't tell who will be willing to volunteer, or further who will be voted in. All predictions for such things are in vain.

Thraen would not receive an answer in a text message. Kallichore had been busy gathering information per Thraen's request, going through the contacts she had with the Jovians to find out whether the Blackwatch would find more volunteers among them. Rather than reply to his message, Kallichore set off on a journey to find him and speak to him in person.

Being that she was a great distance away on a meandering patrol, roughly ten minutes elapsed before her eternal energy signature would become a blip on Thraen's radar. She soon joined him atop the roof, not winded at all from her long journey across town, citing her hard work as much a blessing as the wings at her waist. "Thraen... it's good to see you. I come bearing good news from the Jovian Court." came an even reply as she took tentative steps toward the Senshi of Gardens. There was a tiredness about his frame that belied the true strength and determination within him.

Clicking her heels in an almost militaristic stance, she gave her report. "Sailor Pasiphae and Horatio the Guardian Cat wholeheartedly agree with the Watch and will join the cause. Sailor Ganymede is hesitant but I believe she will be a very worthwhile asset. Valhalla seems on the fence about it, but wherever Ganymede goes, Valhalla will follow. I do not know about Babylon. That is the information I've gathered thus far." Her report concluded, Kallichore's stance softened and she took a few more steps toward Thraen out of concern.

"....are you alright?" She reached out as if to touch him lightly on the shoulder and caught herself, retracting the hand and chastising herself for taking such familiarities with someone she did not know well.

Ten minutes was not a long wait, but as it were he'd still phased out a little until the aura hit his senses. As her shoes clacked on the slate nearby, Thraen looked over and gave a nod by way of initial greeting. "I hadn't expected so fast a response, but I thank you."

The names given in list were some wholly new and some not so much. He couldn't offhand recall Pasiphae, but the kitten Horatio had made enough of an impression at the sparring camp that it range a bell. Ganymede's name, from its small use and pointlessness at the phoenix strike, also came true to mind. That one is a Jovian? Well, they are an odd gathering then. "I feel a little ridiculous not having put together the Trojan, the moon of Jupiter, and the name 'Jovians'. I suppose the membership of Babylon and Valhalla as thematic elements threw me off. And I had nearly forgotten all about Valhalla....that was him near Ganymede...the winged helmet. "

He shook his head like there were cobwebs there, the evens coming vivid, unbidden, and mashed together with too little sleep to keep them wholly separate. The motion of her hand caught his gaze back to present, and he watched it retract as equally passive and unperturbed as he'd looked at it when it lifted. "I do not get much rest of sleep lately, with the Dark Pillar interrupting any dream and driving me to wakefulness. Lack of consistent rest REM is a problem. Not crippling yet, but a problem. "

"From my end, the mass announcement system has been set up by Ash, Faust and I have bodily talked to a large body of scouts, including Athene of the...PSSG. Some independent senshi- Maia, Penthesilea, Vulcan...I talked to Irene of the Asteroids as well. She will take word back to them and *********, and hopefully it will spread among the knights and Mauvians they know. I approached Zirconia, since part of the Black Watch should work with research and archeology. I'm missing a few names in there, I'm fairly certain. But overall the response has been highly positive. ...I think we'll have enough to run three ferries, with cats and scouts at each. Ideally would be two cats and two scouts. The cats can scope out some likely places ahead of time, and 3am we can start ferrying everyone up. There's been a few volunteers for that, not quite enough for two each. "

"I think the chances are good that it might get off the ground. It will just be a matter of stoking the fire enough to keep it going. Patience and action." He was beginning to ramble, so he stopped, took a few deep breaths to clear it. "And you, Kallichore? Are you well? You seem hale and hardy. "

"The Primer update went live? I haven't, myself, had a look over it yet- no...I did, but I don't remember the particulars at the moment. Forgive me. "

Kallichore nodded slightly at Thraen's musing. "We're an... odd bunch. Formed at the eve of the creation of the Dark Mirror Court. We chose the name Jovians because many of us were of Jupiter, but it's not a requirement..." She shook her head then, mentally kicking herself for going off on what sounded like a recruitment tangent or an unnecessary explanation.

His admission of sleep deprivation caused a long and knowing sigh to escape from her lungs. "...I know all too well about that, I'm afraid." Kallichore too, admitted. She raked a hand through her hair absently, thoughts wandering off into the Land of the Dead where she'd spent too many nights. "I've only been able to catch short naps here and there... I'm experimenting with chemical sleep aids to see if a lack of dreaming would help... no luck yet but the sleep I do catch is a bit more restful. I'd certainly like to find out what is causing the problem and end it."

That last part came out a bit too aggressively. Kallichore cleared her throat in embarrassment.

"...your attention to detail is..." Impressive? Possibly even remotely attractive? Another mental kick in the pants, the lack of sleep was loosening her grasp of proper conduct and she hated that. "...very much appreciated." came the final bit of that sentence. "You've already covered so many of the details I was going to ask questions about. I will volunteer to assist ferrying people to the Moon. I have a pearl from the..." Her eyes closed, remembering the screams and the lives lost from the Ambush, how much she wanted to crush Ares' windpipe with her bare hands.

She raised her hands to silence any of his apologies. "None needed. Yes, with Ash, ********* and several others' help, the update went live. We can't reasonably expect everyone to see it, especially when we're all effective zombies..."

Hands twined behind her back, the Eternal had the spark of a thought. "...I wonder if the protection the Moon provides would allow us to sleep? I mean, if these nightmares are Chaos-fueled, could the Moon repel it...?" Something to keep in mind, something to research when her head was on straighter.

"I've never made it a habit to sleep much longer than three hours at any clip anyway. But the nightmares have cut that to two, then ones. At that little, though, a double shot of NyQuil tends to do the job for dreamlessness. " She seemed to be holding together well, though, for all that. She probably had a more reasonable life balance and general sleeping schedule to begin with. Reasonable? Sane? A senshi of Madness with a sane schedule? I'm being stupid.

Words and their tangents in thought grew worse and worse. He would have laughed, in other months long ago, at being called detailed. But with her following words and his stoicism now it was out of place, inappropirate and empty. Thraen just nodded as she transitioned on to the primer and didn't comment on the trailing, incomplete sentence. "I don't know. Maybe it would. I don't even know if our homeworlds offer some respite. It would be something to try. As ferrymen we may be too tired and have to spend the night or a few hours anyway. A good opportunity to find out. "

Had he mentioned 3am on the twelfth? Yes. Yes I did.
"If you have a chance, energy, or inclination to test out the homeworld part of that, let me know if it works out. Or if you find anyone who has tried it. I haven't found anyone that mentioned it. I haven't caught out a lieutenant or mirror senshi to find if they're having the same. "

"And be careful if you're going to patrol alone? You might as well make use of having a team."

"...I never even thought of that. Damn, restlessness is making me less efficient than usual..." Kallichore pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed, making a fuzzy mental note to write things down. It would be later be forgotten, most likely. She placed her hands on her hips and stared at a spot somewhere to Thraen's right, just above his shoulder. "I would hope they would be just as affected as we are if it's some universal force but... my theory is that it's Chaos-based and they're just being assholes, ******** with us."

Kallichore spat. "Excuse the language."

And the process through which sleep would be influenced like this... Is this Queen Metallia's doing? The ruler Vespa had mentioned many moons ago? What Kallichore wouldn't give for some massive power amplifier - she'd aim all the insanity she could muster straight at the Negaverse headquarters and see how the Chaos army liked it. The only person who seemed to revel in her power's unhinging abilities was Schorl and the thought of running into someone who enjoyed being insane was unnerving.

"The next time I'm at the moon, I'll try to find someplace that isn't rock solid or full of stone and we'll see what happens. I actually have yet to find anywhere on the moon that looks even remotely comfortable. Maybe everyone's bed was destroyed in the whatever-ended-all-of-civilization because I have yet to see anything remotely resembling a bed... or maybe they didn't sleep at all." Bunch of weirdos. But it would explain quite a few things.

Thraen's mention of a team, perhaps specifically the Jovians, made Kallichore's shoulders visibly sink. "...I'm not sure how much longer the team will last." And she left it at that.

His eyes smiled where his mouth didn't manage. It was a soldier's banter, how she used the cursing and when, and then apologizing for it like he was ....something else. How do you see me, Kallichore? I must come off, ultimately, as the scholar I am. Or just a younger senshi by experience? Not a soldier. That is fine. Years in this game, and grown from much of the scars she's collected. Some measure of bravado is called for at times. A pity she is not a general of some other, actual soldiers. Knowing the times and places for the types of manner some mark of suitability.

And the strength of her arm no less in that an eternal long forged.

The nearly offhand reply about the state of the Jovians was dour. It was also curt enough to be clear that questions or inquiries on her feelings or needs in the matter were not welcome. Thraen let it pass as she so plainly wanted, but tried to make a mental note. If he had the opportunity, it might be something to ask about of Valhalla. "It isn't usual for wood, cloth, and other organics to survive the marches of time undessicated. Some of the rampant dust in the ruins could be such trappings. It is hard to predict, with how much science is flaunted by the magic inherent in everything having to do with ....senshi and knights. The environment is not very desert-like near the ruin, that ivy coils and covers. But it doesn't seem likely to get much rainfall to support the ivy either. "

"A millennia is a long time." Which was as much to say they'd probably not ever know why some things seemed to preserve while others didn't. Magic was both a convenient and infuriating scapegoat. The wildness of it's nature provided as many problems as it solved. At least fairytales follow an internal logic.

He held out his hand to her, offering a friendly clasp, offering an attempt at genial banter, "Stay safe regardless. If you pass out at the meet, I'll try to catch you before you fall. "

Had she been any less severe with herself, she would have leaned her head on Thraen's scholarly shoulder. She did not wish to present herself as more familiar with him than was comfortable, but that did not shake the feeling that Thraen was a much welcomed brother-in-arms. It was rare that Kallichore found someone else so interested in knowledge and wisdom as Thraen seemed to be. It was a breath of fresh air against the once bloodthirsty demon that inhabited her head and heart. It rears its ugly head from time to time but those outbursts are becoming fewer and farther between.

Stay safe regardless. If you pass out at the meet, I'll try to catch you before you fall.

It was then that she smiled, genuinely and with an unusual vulnerability, and laughed to him like she would her brother. "I cannot promise there won't be drool, but the sentiment is noted and appreciated, Thraen." she explained, gladly clasping the outstretched hand. "You do good work here, Thraen. I think the cosmos itself would be proud of you. Order has done so little in the last few months that this, I feel, will at least help revive a sort of urgency we so desperately need. The faction needs more senshi like you."

With a curt nod, she turned to resume her patrol but stopped suddenly just a few feet away from the blonde, turning as if she just remembered something. "I sincerely hope you stay this course, Thraen." came a slow admission, low in volume and almost a murmur. "Because if I find you've become corrupted, I hope you remember who it is that tarnished you, because I'd like to s**t down their throat."

It was said as plainly as reading off a grocery list. Kallichore smiled to herself, proud, and leaped off into the night to become a youma's worst nightmare.
