She'd lied, it had taken her twenty three minutes, rather than the twenty minutes she had projected. Actually, she'd arrived with plenty of time, but she'd taken a few minutes to look around the place, at all the work that had put into it, and she had to hand it to America, it was all coming to together.

Instead of knocking she let herself in, voice raising to be heard easily through the whole of the structure. "Merica, I'm here! Where are you?" Kitchen, probably, but hey, she could be wrong.

She wasn't wrong.

"Kitchen!"

In the past months the house had slowly come together, and now it was much less abandoned wreck and simply a house in the process of a make-over. The floors in particular gleamed, as if they'd been cleaned and waxed often. And they had been, with great care to renew that warm inner glow time and again as work on the place inevitably dirtied and scuffed it. The windows were in all place, though none had curtains, and furniture would have to wait until America was promoted and could truly call the house her own. But the parlor was bright and sunny with its gentle yellow walls and white trim and sunny little nook of a window seat. The stair that led to the second floor no longer had gaps and the banister even looked safe to slide down. (It was, America tested it thoroughly.)

There was a little hall that led from the parlor to the kitchen, with doors to a small bathroom (now working and 100% less nightmarish) and a guest room (partially painted and coming along nicely). The the kitchen was a large, open space, and much like the rest of the house, bright and full of sunshine. It looked like the kitchen of a normal house, one that had not seen well over a decade of abandonment and disaster.

At a large island counter America, hair up in a braided crown and wearing a frilly white apron featuring red hearts, was lifting a basket of wings out of a fryer and dumping them into a strainer lined with paper towels. All around were sauce bottles labeled with numbers, along with a binder full of tidy notes and recipe cards.

"Beer's in the fridge!" Apparently the house was now also on the power grid, and likely the water grid as well, because the beer was indeed in the fridge and was nicely chilled at that. Bottles of soda were also housed within, and the freezer was full of both ice and popsicles.

Well what do you know, right on the first guess.

Smiling ot herself, the dainty teen made her way slowly through the house. It was empty of furniture, bare and unfinished, but considering the state of the houses around it, America had been doing a damn good job of getting it back in order. Focused on the more finished parts of the house, to Peyton, they looked very similar to every other empty house she'd wandered through in her life. It could have been anywhere in the continental United States, and that in itself was impressive. America had taken a run down, damaged skeleton of a house and made it into something amazing.

The petite Sun was all smiles as she wandered through and into the kitchen, headed straight for the fridge as her friend pointed out there were drinks inside. She reached for a soda automatically, but hesitated, eyes on the beer. Age was a pretty damn relative concept on an island full of soldiers, so why the ******** not. Wouldn't have been the first time she drink.

Cracking the bottle open, she took a small. experimental sip before a much larger swallow. It wasn't exactly tasty, but she had to admit there was a certain refreshing quality to it. "This place looks amazing. I can't wait to see it finished."

Looking up, America grinned at Peyton, and there was a brief, but obvious moment of barely contained excitement at the idea of the house being finished, or at least near enough to be finished. She spent more and more time here, even before getting it hooked up to the Island's the power and water grid. And now that things were working...

Well, the dorms were seeing rather less of her of her lately. Probably for the best, all things considered. She the basket of wings in front of Pey, along with an empty place, a bow for bones, and a small dish of fresh chopped celery and carrot sticks. America then considered the sauce bottles for a moment and selected three, "Let's start with classic buffalo. Just tell me which you like best."

Peyton would find they each varied a bit in flavor, consistency, and heat, though none were super spicy. Leaning on her elbows, America watched the other girl expectantly and took a sip of her own beer. "How's Astrid settling in? You said she was in Life, right?"

America's general absence had indeed been noticed by the dainty Sun. Their path's seemed to cross less and less as of late, but Peyton at least didn't think it had any detrimental effects on their friendship.

Folding her arms across the island, Pey leaned into it and looked over the basket of wings and the bottles of sauce. Even naked, the chicken smelled amazing, so her expectations were high going into this taste test. "Classic Buffalo, here we go." A wing was selected, sauce drizzled over it, and she took a large chunk out of the side, chewing thoughtfully as she let the flavors roll over her tongue.

"Mmm, this is really good." She grinned, then reached for her beer to wash it all down, clearing her palette for the next sample.

Then her shoulders rose in a small shrug. "She seems to be doing alright. It's been quiet, so there's that. I haven't had much to worry about yet." Another drink. "Yeah, Life."

America grinned back at the compliment. Damn right it's good. "You should have her help you get in on all the betting they have going on over there. I hear that's where the real money's at." She wasn't really one for gambling herself, but some of the bets she'd heard of were a <********' hoot.

"So have you talked with Al, yet? 'Bout the Noah thing?" America waggled her eyebrows playfully at the smaller girl, not at all treating the topic like Al was some sort of danger to Peyton's relationship.

Mouth full of chicken, Peyton didn't have a chance to comment on the betting/Life thing before America had jumped right in with a question that effectively shoved everything else away. She swallowed rather suddenly to force it all down, then reached for her bottle for a long drink before holding it between her hands and turning lavender eyes down from the other girl's face, and onto the counter top. "Ah, no. Not yet. I'm honestly not sure if I should, you know?"

Learning that Al had feelings for Noah had been an unexpected shock for the Sun. At the time she hadn't really known known how to handle it, but talking it out with Noah had definitely helped.

"Noah say's he hasn't been pushing it at all, and I trust Noah. I mean, if Al isn't trying to poach, what's there to talk about?" Truth be told it seemed to Peyton that any conversation she might have with Al, involving Noah, would be awkward as hell.

"T'stake your territory, n'such. An let him know you're keeping an eye out." America's voice held a sort of reality TV snap to it, but she spoke with a grin, eye bright with humor. Love triangles, gosh! "When he told me I triaf to angle y'all into a threesome thing, but he was..." She glanced at Peyton's face and began cracking up, "...yeah, just like that."

The girl took a moment to compose herself and then leaned in close, "But Noah's great for telling you you straight out. Most guys wouldn't, except maybe to brag. Did you reward him with a big sexy make-out?"

Peyton frowned thoughtfully, considering it. "I don't think I really need to. Noah said he he made sure Al understood. My going and talking to him just seems...I dunno, it'd make me look jealous. Insecure." Her shoulders came up in a small shrug. "I trust Noah."

The Sun made a face at the very idea of sharing her boyfriend with someone else, specially Al, of all people, and she set narrowed eyes on the Moon across from her. "Never going to happen."

The glower melted away quickly. "Well, He was scared to tell me, he thought I'd try to make him chose between us." She'd found out by accident, he'd told her then, though had been planning on bringing it up, if only he could muster up the courage to do so.

"There was make-outs," she confirmed, smiling again, at last.
