Étoile had spent days questioning various rebels and rebel affiliates looking for Dr. Light. He felt he was close. It had been years sense the last time he'd seen his former friend and colleague. Little had been heard from his friend until his son's unsuccessful stand. Bitter feelings returned to Étoile's mind thinking about Proto Man's stand. Why hadn't he stood with him? Why had he been so cowardly. Why did Wily scare him so? Without a way to go back five years, it was rather useless to think about such things. What he could do was act NOW. It may be late, but late action may be better than no action.
He wondered briefly around the area he was told to head. Hmmm. "Where have you gone Light?" he spoke softly to himself.

Light made little effort to hide his whereabouts. After all, if Wily had wanted him dead, he could have done it long before now. No instead Light's house sat amongst a small row of such buildings towards the outskirts of the city. Despite the ruined state of much of the rest of the city, Light and his bots had worked to rebuild what they could, starting with the area in the immediate vicinity. Citizens were more than welcome and encouraged to occupy any of the rebuilt buildings once they were finished. Outside Light's home, a mailbox made of scrap metal formed the shape of a dog sitting on it's haunches, mouth open as it waited for the mail. A wide collar about the statue's neck declared "LIGHT" along with a house number which held little meaning these days.

Étoile wondered a little longer before coming up to the house he was sure he wanted. Reading the mailbox, he walked to the door and knocked politely. His heart rate seemed to elevate as he knocked. It had been so long.

Light started at a knock from the door, nearly dropping the small can as he poured it's contents down the drain. There was no telling what Wily would do if he ever got his hands on the formula for the P-tank. An army of super powered sniper bots would certainly not do the city any good. Hastily hiding the can in a cabinet, Light rushed over to answer the door. As he opened the door, the good doctor was shocked to see his former associate. "Étoile?"

"Thomas...it's been...awhile." Well THAT was an understatement to say the least. "May I come in?" He asked politely. He was eager to catch up with his old friend.

"Of course!" Light stepped aside. "Have a seat. Can I get you a drink?" Judging by the dust on his fur, Étoile had probably taken a long journey through the rubble filled streets to find his way here.

"Water would be nice, thank you," Étoile stepped in. He'd been walking for several hours and was in fact, very thirsty. He sat in a chair he found close to a small table. "I imagine recent events have made your life very busy of late Thomas. Flashover certainly gave us all one hell of a shock," He made a face. "I imagine that must have been worse for you than the rest of us," he remarked.

Light quickly prepared the water and a small snack, barely stopping himself from pulling out the robo-food instead. He rarely had audio visitors. Returning to the living room, he placed the offerings on the table and took a seat. "Oh my, yes. It was my own fault, I suppose. I had heard a rumor that there was an extremist group among the rebels but I was busy with my own projects and didn't go and talk with them when I should have. My son...he could have been killed for my folly." And it wasn't the first time. When would he learn? Perhaps it was better if Blues stayed away.

"I hardly think Flashover would have heeded anything you said to him. His hatred of robots was undeniable." Étoile remarked. He took the glass of water gratefully. "Thank you," he said briefly before downing the entire glass. "Wily's had me pretty confined to the conservatory ever sense he stopped all audio work in the mines. Astronomy is OK I suppose, but I prefer more down to earth sciences," he reported, changing to a slightly less emotional subject.

"I suppose," Light murmured, though he didn't sound very convinced. The change of subject, though, was a welcome one. "Astronomy? Well I suppose if he has you watching the skies, you can't be interfering with his plans."

"Yes, that's probably his thinking," conceded Étoile. "I do miss running scans on the various rocks we used to pull up out of the bowels of the earth. It was such a rush to find out what they are made of. The only thing that makes my sudden field switch bearable is that we do the same for the stars. It is fascinating how the same ninety-eight naturally occurring elements make the entire universe," If Étoile was going to be nostalgic, he'd be nostalgic for the happier times. It also appeared he wasn't entirely upset about his sudden switch from geology to astronomy. It was more the circumstances under which the switch was made than anything else.

"I hope one day soon you will be able to return to your geological studies, Étoile. My robots and I are trying to set the city right, although it will never fully recover until we remove Wily from power." He was still searching for a way to do just that. Although the suit he'd created was powerful, the heavy damage it had taken from the rebels and the blast were evidence that it was not fit to take on Wily's entire army. Perhaps if he continued to build robots and gain allies, some day he would have enough forces to stand up and fight for the people of this city as his eldest son had done long ago.

"I only wonder when the citizens will be ready to take up that fight. We were to cowardly to help your son when he'd made his stand five years ago," There was bitter regret in Étoile's voice. "I should have said something. I should have done something. But I sat in my lab and just watched. Watched as Hope fell. Like the coward I am," Étoile fought back tears. These thoughts and that moment had haunted him for what seemed like ages. "I am sorry Thomas, neither of us can change the past, but...there must still be hope for the future. I am tired of working with Wily's shadow over my every move. This time, I will fight," That had been one of Étoite's motives for finding his friend. It was time for things to change.

"You were not the only one that stayed home that day, my friend," Light replied solemnly. Étoile's words, however, lifted his spirits once more. "Yes. I would be happy for the help! There are several vacant houses nearby if you wish to relocate, but any assistance you could give would be more than welcome!"

Étoile grinned. That would be the first step toward change. "Thank you, my friend, I think I will look at these houses. I'll appropriate some things from my lab to bring back with me. I don't imagine it is easy to get good lab equipment out here. I'm sure Wily won't miss a few small things," He would have loved to bring some of the larger lab equipment, but Wily MIGHT notice if his spectrophotometer was missing, or the large telescope he frequently used to observe the known universe. Some of the smaller things, however, such as some microscopes, and a few copies of the notes taken over the years may go unnoticed. Perhaps even a few samples of strange metals from several meteor samples....
