Thali only agreed to starting this after bossing Dizzy quite soundly. About Pokemon. And Dizxy should feel special.
R'yn was aghast: Gereth had lost? He had always assumed Calith had a strong attachment to his bronze, just as he had for her rider. Baffled by the gold's decision, as she had stuck with Gereth for what--seven turns?, he made his way to Jasi's Wher. He knocked twice. "Jasi, it's R'yn." He had always been particularly fond of the brownrider--after all, it had been she who had helped in the delivery of his daughter, Tiry. He wanted to congratulate her in person. And maybe give her some advice.
She was young, twenty, if he remembered correctly. He knew that feel. He'd been seventeen when Gereth had flown Calith. The bronze had fallen in love as quickly as his rider had. He wondered how Gereth was taking the loss, and if he had found a green to chase. "Are you awake?" He inquired, knocking again.

There was some hushed cursing and a frantic mumbling, some shuffling, and a loud thump before Jasiline's voice grew loud enough to be heard as she swore once again. "It's just the Weyrleader. For the love of greens grow a pair! ...Come in!"
Jasiline was sitting up in her own bed, visible from the doorway should R'yn enter at her welcome. She had a loose tunic on, bluerider knots hanging from the shoulder, but judging by the covers bunched up around her waist it was the only thing she'd managed to reach at such short notice. Another body was visible as a shifting mound under the blanket on the other side of her bed. The third occupant of the room was a small green firelizard who trilled happily and fluttered over to R'yn's shoulder, churring and butting her head gently against his.
Jasiline yawned and stretched, running a hand through her snarled hair. "What's up R'yn? What time is it?"
There was an appalled 'tch!' from under the blanket.

Amused as he was, R'yn attempted to keep a straight face. He failed, smirking instead. "Early," he admitted, shrugging. He leaned against the wall of the weyr, one hand raising from his side to stroke the green firelizard now resting on his shoulders. "I wanted to congratulate you before anyone else did. Doubtless you'll be swarmed by wellwishers and naysayers, come a few hours." R'yn shook his head, in baffled awe. He quirked a grin. He cpuldnt imagine what they'd say: a brownrider, the Weyrleader? A female brownrider? He knew harpers would be writing songs about that one!
He knew one harper, in particular, who was undoubtedly holed up in his weyr, laughing at the thought of those reactions. "Gereth's licking his wounds," he added, "Voracath flew well. Or so I'm told. I was rather... Preoccupied." The former Weyrleader teased, glancing at the lump that was the bluerider under Jasi's bedfurs. He stode over to her, handing her a scroll of parchment.
"Well, Weyrleader, what are your orders?"

Pepper thrummed and settled in more comfortably on R'yn while her owner blinked sleep from her eyes. "Get out of there D'nik!" She muttered, slapping the lump under the blanket and drawing a sharp cry of pain from it's occupant. Finally though the young man emerged, around Jasiline's age or maybe a couple turns older he was a awkward looking as a young colt as he finished tying off his breeches, shoved his feet into his boots hurriedly and bowed his head to R'yn as he rushed out of the room. "'scuse me Weyrleader."
"Give Tarnaruth my love!" Jasiline laughed as the door swung freely behind her escaping partner. "He's cute. Not generally my type during the day. But he certainly makes up for his shyness at night if you know what I mean. " Jasiline returned R'yn's smirk with one of her own. She could tease just as well. "Vorcath tells me Gereth was asking for it."
Jasiline leaned forward and accepted the parchment from R'yn's hands, unrolling it. "What's this all about now?"

"Probably was," R'yn agreed, grinning. "He's always been possessive of Calith." Quite like he himself was, of Ticene. He had been surprised by Calith's choice--and certainly surprised to find Gereth injured, but he accepted it. He would have Gereth tended to by healers, and hope that the bronze's memory of the loss would fade.
"Oh, list of staff. Wing instructions for drills, briefing you'll need to manage the Weyr." R'yn sat down on Jasiline's bed. "It's difficult at first," he mused, aloud. "You'll have a hard time, being so young. T'nus shouldn't give you a rough time, anyway. Some of the other bronzeriders might." He contemplated for a moment, before reaching to grip Jasi's shoulder. He pulled a face. He didn't like imagining what hidebound riders would say. "I could help," he offered. "For a while, anyway. Just until you get the hang of it. They'll be watching you closely. They'll want to see if you know what you're doing."

A frown crossed Jasiline's face as she skimmed down the details listed before her. One thick eyebrow raised as she turned her eyes back up at R'yn, ignoring the hand on her shoulder. She rolled up the parchment and handed it back to him with a far too cheerful smile. "No thank you! Not interested."
How the hell would they expect her to know what she was doing right off the bat? She was a female brownrider fresh out of training. She was about as green as they get without being a dragon herself.

R'yn was amused, and yet unamused. He was silent for a long moment, before shaking his head at her. "Your dragon flew the queen," he said. "That makes you Weyrleader. There's no "not interested". You do what has to be done, the Weyr won't recognize another. Not until the next time Calith rises, and shaff knows when that'll be. Two turns time, maybe." He handed her the parchment. "You don't have to do this alone, you know. You'll have a second, your wing, me,--oh, and Tic. Do try and make sure she doesn't push herself too hard."
The thought of his weyrmate working with someone else, howevercheery he appeared, troubled him. "I can help," he added, again.

Jasiline's demeanor turned cold swiftly. "And do these 'other bronzeriders' get trained on the chance this should happen to them? Because I shaffing well didn't!" She cursed, snatching the rolled parchment from his hands again and flinging herself out of her bed. The borrowed shirt she wore was long enough thankfully to keep her modestly covered as she stomped, bare feet making soft slaps against the stone floors, to her trunk and rummaged around within it.
"Fardling dimglowed pieces of wherdung." She swore again, pulling out a fresh and relatively new tunic and her least-scored riding leathers. "You scorching well believe you'll be helping me. I'm not floundering like a half-brained flitter in front of the entire shaffing weyr." Jasiline shoved her feet angrily into the pants, tugging them into place and working at the laces. If she had to be the Weyrleader she was going to look the part, at least on this first impression she had. It was bad enough already that she'd sent her bedmate fleeing half naked back to his own weyr.
Her mind whirled, trying to take the enormity of it all in... She shot a sharp look at R'yn. "You. You're going to be my second. The whole weyr already follows you and if anyone has a problem with me they can just pretend it's still you giving orders till this whole shaffing fiasco is over."
"Shells R'yn! By the first egg how was I to know Voracath would win? Calith has always flown with Gereth. I couldn't keep him out of the sky. Vor's not exactly the type of dragon you can say no to. All I wanted was a bit of fun! Not a shaffing pile of responsibility and whershit. I'm still working on that whole 'dodging Thread' bit! " She pulled her arms into the large tunic and in a slightly awkard but deft maneuver, managed to step into her own, tug it up under the larger bit of fabric and neatly changed her shirt without exposing herself. Jasiline tossed the bluerider's shirt aside once she was finished and went searching for her own knots. She paused and blinked, holding the emblem of her old rank. "Should I even keep these? What if he win's again?" Her eyes widened as she stood frozen, staring at R'yn. Horror and anxiety paled the face of the young woman who'd always fought to prove she was one of the guys, that she was tougher and better than anyone else.

"Well... Yes. My weyrlingmaster was particularly strict on me, saying that I might someday be Weyrleader." R'yn shook his head at the memory. "I was furious, of course. It wasn't fair. My first sevenday as a rider, and here I was being told I had to be better than everyone else. You weren't trained--and I see the error of that, now. Browns can certainly fly queens! We should have been better prepared, but shards, I never expected one to win Weyrleader. You'll bring Ista to a less hidebound perspective."
He hesitated at her look, stiffening slightly at his new position. Second? Fine. That was just fine with him. He'd been just out of weyrling lessons himself when he'd become Weyrleader. He wasn't entirely sure he knew how to be anything else. "Right," he said with a nod. "And I, of course, will back every decision you make." He gave the girl a small smile, hoping to reassure her.
"Yes, it was rather unexpected," he agreed. "But perhaps Calith's choice was for the best. New blood! Oh, keep them," he said, grinning. "Rest assured, Weyrleader, Gereth will not lose again!" He reached out to squeeze her shoulder. "Promise!"

"You're shaffing right it will." Jasiline muttered as she tucked the edge of her shirt into her pants, straightening and making herself look neat. Over that went a handsome leather jerkin, sleeveless and lightly adorned, tailored for a distinctly feminine shape. Sure she had consented to pants today, but she wasn't going to go around pretending to be a boy just to sooth some rumpled feathers. She was a woman, she likes being a woman, and it hadn't been her choice to be the shaffing weyrleader. It wasn't like she was bedding Ticene.
Jasiline frowned at her reflection in the small mirror she possessed and grabbed a comb to tear through her bed-matted hair. A loud snort of laughter escaped her . "Don't promise that just yet R'yn. I might be inclined to take advantage of you there."
"And don't think you're going to get it back that easily either!" She grinned, planting her hands on her hips and standing up straight. "Just because I didn't want it doesn't mean we're not going to fight tooth and claw to keep what is ours! Who knows, a couple turns down the road, I might grow to like being the boss around here!"
In another sudden thought shift Jasi narrowed her eyes. "How does this reorganize the wings? Do I just take over yours or are they reshuffled? And what happens to your Wingsecond now that I've given his position away?"

"I'm sure you will," R'yn agreed, grinning. "I'm not particularly used to taking orders, apart from Ticene's or Calith's, and I'm sure that'll stay the same..." Ticene was difficult to argue with, when she could withhold certain--priveledges. "Don't expect me to fetch you food from the kitchens, though." He crossed his arms, smirking at her. "Oh, I don't expect it to be easy," he said. "In between tasks for you--" he paused to grin, "We'll be practicing!" He gestured outside the weyr to indicate Gereth. "He's a sulking mess right now, but give us a sevenday! He'll be in top form."
"Oh, you'll be taking over mine. Mm... I think T'nus would be a fine wingleader. Yes, I think its about time he lead his own wing. Of course, that's up to you to assess. Do you want to go over anything?"

"You're sharding right there are things I want to go over! First I need food. and Klah. After that though you're drilling me in every sharding aspect of this job. I'm not lwtting anyone make a fool of me because I'm young, inexperienced, and a woman. I'M coming out on top of thia fiasco one way or another." She finished raking her hair into submission and bound it back into a bushy ponytail. "As for T'nus: I'd like to see him drill with your wing alone. Have him name a second for himself and see what they can do. You and I will observe and you can convince me he deserves it and why." This would also teach her what she should look for in good riders and how leadership skills are looked for in others. If Tnus was a good Wingleader than he was someone she would have to emulate for her own wing.
Her own wing. She was Wingleader and Weyrleader barely a turn out of her own weyrlinghood. What a mess that was!
