Hi there! Welcome to Silver Rain. We need to go over a few things before I can approve your candidate.
First off, we don't really have a printer available here. Anything that needs to be written is done by hand, usually on a cured animal hide. Most, but not all, records are done by harpers.
You have a good start on his personality. The more you can give us though, the better we can match him with a dragon. Here's some questions to help you expand. Generally we ask for at least 2 paragraphs.
How is he whimsical? Is this just what he thinks is, or is he truly a funny guy?
Will he fight back if he's pushed too far? What is considered too far?
Why doesn't he like completing his tasks? How often does this happen? What are the consequences of his actions?
What do his fantasies include? What is he dreaming about that's so much better than his life?
Does he purposely ignore people trying to get his attention when he's daydreaming?
Why does he have a lack of determination? Is he lazy?
Why does he despise regulation?
History:
I am a bit confused where he was born. At first it sounds like he's in the Weyr, but then you talk about a Hold, and later Traders.
Where was he born? Weyr, Hold, or Traders? The life for each of these would be different.
Why were his parents despondent? Why did they marry? What work do his parents do? Why did his parents only choose to have one child?
What mark did his father desire to leave on the Hold? How did this affect him? Did his father wish him to follow in his footsteps?
When a child reaches about 12 Turns(years), s/he is allowed to choose which profession they wish to apprentice to. Most probably follow one or both parent's profession, but its not required. So it's unlikely he would be "tossed from mold to mold".
I'm not sure how you mean research in this. Traders are just that. They trade materials and goods. It would be unusual for a trader child to enter into a profession other than trading. There are different tasks in the trading caravan though. Those in line with Caravanmaster, the one in charge with getting the caravan to their destinations on time, those who buy goods from the Holds and those who sell goods at the Holds.
It may be harder for him if he's having a hard time with social aspects of trading. Traders need to be friendly to make sales. How would he get his information?
I think you mean charcoal stick, not ink stick. Why did he find this so fascinating? Where did he get the hides or hide scraps he used?
