It was on days like this that Aludra actually really enjoyed being a Senshi. So far she’d reunited a lost child with her mother (granted the lady had only been around the corner, but still…), put two baby birds back in their nests and then played with a couple of bored dogs in someone’s backyard. It certainly wasn't saving the world, but she was sick and tired of getting hurt and everything being all life and death and panic.

So even with the risk of being found by someone nasty always being a possibility, she was enjoying the sunny day full of happy things. If only it was always like this.

Chibi Aludra had just jumped to the top of an old, abandoned house and was balancing her way along the eaves. Usually she kept her senshi activities to night time but since she’d promised a friend she would stay over and it was so nice out, it had become a day patrol. It hardly mattered if anyone normal actually saw her, right?

The benefit of being the middle child was that Massalia could go out without his family noticing or caring, run a patrol, and be home for supper. With how often he met trouble, Massalia patrolled frequently, with a solemnity that came of seen way, way too much at too young an age.

He still had nightmares, sometimes, of Buddingtonite amd Bischofite, taunting, trying to kill him, and right after sometimes nicer dreams, of Avior and Ashur and Whisler. Not all dreams we nice, but not all nice dreams stayed nice, and he was feeling for chaos auras carefully, keeping half-hidden. If he ran into Chaos, he's much prefer a Dark Mirror Senshi or Schreibersite to something terrible like a General or Captain, and he certainly hoped if he ran into Order, it was someone friendly.

It was the new aura that confused him, however, and the chibi looked in the direction he felt it, pausing and standing still as he blinked. He very rarely noticed other Chibis - knowing two, and of three or four, and he wondered if this one was any of them, eyes focused intently.

Maybe they had some clue? Or at least thought without doing, and he watched to see if they came.

Alerted to a new aura in the area, Aludra stopped all movement and closed her eyes, focusing on the sensation. Compared the Negaverse this was like a gentle balm, a soothing touch that she knew could only be good… and judging by its similarity to others she’d felt, a chibi like herself.

It only took her a second to make up her mind. Any new ally was a good one and she was off the roof and heading in her fellow Senshi’s direction as quick as her feet could carry her.

She landed neatly in the middle of a quiet suburban street; knowing full well whoever it was would be close by, even if she couldn’t see them yet. She pulled the hood back and shook out her hair, a welcoming smile already lighting her face. It was important to make a good first impression.

Massalia heard the noise and began approaching slowly, feeling around the area for Chaos cautiously. Nice it was to notice another Chibi, Massalia was far more accustomed to Knights and Adult Senshi and similar than other chibis and his experiences taught him caution and alertness. He remembered Bischofite's taunting, Buddingtonite's words. He remembered much of the strife and heartache he already encountered and his steps to stop it as he approached, expression grim and calm. Although only eleven, he'd already been threatened with death, and he couldn't help worrying that some Chaos agent whom wasn't nice like Schrei or Avior might harm them, and Massalia's approach, while not hostile, was quite serious for his age indeed. And seeing a girl - he began worrying much more, instinct to protect strong.

"Hello." He said carefully.

Perhaps Aludra should have taken the same care and caution, she had certainly suffered enough to warrant it and usually there was hesitation. That worry was always there. That fear was always lingering, waiting to pounce and it was only with effort that she pushed it down. So she smiled at her fellow chibi and curtsied.

"Hello," she replied and held out a hand towards him, as if trying to calm a unknown dog. The wariness in his face was something she understood well. "It’s okay. My name is Sailor Aludra. I’ve been all over this area today and there’s nobody bad around."

Massalia took her hand, shaking it slowly and nodded with a frown forming.

"On your route? That's good." He said calmly. "I'm Massalia. They're tricky."

The Chibi sighed.

"I saw a bad guy pull a monster out of nowhere once. They're... Smart."

The smile she'd been holding up dropped away.

"They're not smart; they're just cruel."

She pulled her hood back up and motioned in the direction she'd just come.

"We should find somewhere less open to talk. I want to know everything that you know."

"That's fair. I know more than a few hiding places." Massalia said softly, and he motioned. "Follow me. We should be close to one. Keep alert. Chaos could be anywhere."

"Lead the way," she said.

This day was starting to feel a lot more depressing than it had started but this was a good chance to learn more from a fellow Senshi. She followed just a step behind him, her brow furrowed in a thoughtful frown.

Massalia lead Aludra into a small alcove near some buildings, and once tucked inside he relaxed. No chaos auras, no trouble, and he smiled.

"That's better! I got called a terrorist on my first day when I got 'wakened by a kitty, so it's good to be safe. Especially because some Negaverse agents think we're grownups or something." Massalia explained. He was smiling, though. "I've met three of them!"

Following him into the alcove, Aludra leant against the wall and tugged idly at the edge of her hood. At least he was smiling now and she gave him a small one back, but her mind was elsewhere.

"I've met... well, I've only really met and talked to one of them properly." And he's nice, she wanted to say but she didn't want to go in that direction yet. "The others attacked my friends and I... and it didn't end well."

She looked directly into his eyes, beseeching. "Do you know why? Has anyone properly told you why we fight? There must be another way."

Massalia sighed, wishing he could offer a thurough explanation. Instead, he only offered what he did learn.

"War. One of them thinks of all of us as soldiers - before he tried taking a knife or something to my face. It's scary, because they think differently. They have monsters." Massalia frowned. "They're out for their own ideas. They have Senshi, too. I met one. She wasn't bad. But told me never to fight, and I believe it, she's a lot stronger than us. Some are nice - I met a nice one who thinks it's a game when kids are involved - something to play at. But others are... Terrifying. Some more might not be, but a couple well."

His expression grew grim a moment.

"There's non-Negaverse senshi who might feel funny, too." Massalia nodded. "Though they seem okay. And you might be able to tell them apart from Negaverse kind!"

As Massalia spoke, Aludra’s expression became more and more thunderous until she finally exploded with a loud, “that is so stupid!” It was completed with a frustrated stomp of her foot and the ineffectual waving of her arms. “My Negaverse friend said they wanted to help people too but that’s just a lie. All this fighting is so pointless and it’s not fair on anyone. I hate it!”

With everything that had happened and everything that she had seen, maybe it was impossible for each side to ever put their different ideals aside.

Her anger dissipated and she crossed her arms over her chest, hugging herself. “I know what you’re talking about… the dark Senshi that is. I’ve met a few. Some good, some bad. The good one I knew before she…” One of her hands drifted to her chest. “… changed.”

Aludra hoped Persephone was okay, although the older girl didn’t seem to regret her choice.

“And I know the other type. The uh… Mirror Senshi. They’re nice.”

"It's possible some nice people got wrapped up with them. Mama says good people get involved with bad things sometimes." The Chibi frowned, mind trailing to Schreibersite. So kind to him, and - he didn't seem to know it was war.

"I met a nice one too. Maybe they want to help. But Others are bad, very, very bad."

He was quiet then, listening to Aludra as his little mind rolled over thoughts, over her words and his observations, and he nodded.

"The Dark one I met was nice. She said not to go close in a fight, though." Massalia sighed. "It's not fair. I know some Mirrors are out there, and... One is my friend. He's helped a lot..."

The boy seemed to trail off a bit.

"I met two on our side who saved me. One was nice and taught me a tiny bit. One was fleeting." And then he seemed sad.

"But I don't know many others, except two more little ones like us, and at least one, two knights."

Silence a moment.

"Are there that many bad guys?"

"You’re right. Everyone can make bad choices and I think you can make amends, find your way back to being good." Would it even help to try and talk to them? To try convince those of the Negaverse to change their minds and join the side of good? Aludra wanted to believe she could make a difference that way.

"But some of them can’t be redeemed," she said with a sigh. "There are a lot of them. They… killed one of my friends. They didn't care. They were proud of it. I've never been so scared…"

It was so complicated. When she had first started it had all seemed so black and white. There were the good guys and the bad guys, but it wasn't like that at all. It was all grey and full of tears.

"We should look out for each other. If you ever need me, just call me and I'll be there."
