He had a headache, and he had one Hell of a headache. Bousvor threw himself down in a heap into a pile of something soft in an out of the way area of the main gathering area. He raised his paw to his head and rubbed softly. Things had not gone as he'd expected. Oh no. Now he found himself with a thrall. One he'd never expected to really see or interact with again. So much for that.

Bousvor wanted a cool drink but didn't want to get up to get it. He needed to think of a way to keep that lioness out of trouble. If he could. He heaved a sigh and rested his head on his paws. This thrall was going to be more trouble than she was worth. He hadn't intended to get a personal thrall until after he reached captain rank. Oh well. Green eyes barely slitted he watched those others moving around.

He hoped the lioness would figure out to fix her attitude by the chore he'd set her, but somehow he didn't think it would set it. Was there a way to get her to see that she couldn't go around badmouthing captains? Then expecting him to get her off when she got into trouble. If not, he was more than willing to let the others beat her if she continued on this path. With any luck it wouldn't come to that. It would look bad on him as well as her.

The only life Josen had ever known, the only home he'd ever had was this. Still he knew there was more to the world. The reavers had to be stealing from someone; the birds had to be flying somewhere; and the rogues — the ones who lived here now — they had to be coming from someplace.

"We'll find a way," his sister had said as they gazed across the land of masters and slaves.

No, Josen had thought, we won't, but I will. It was a bad thing to think. What he'd said was worse: With callousness beyond his years he'd told her to keep away from him, as he'd done his brothers, as he would do again. They were a burden, and impoverished, browbeaten cubs like him couldn't afford the additional weight on their shoulders. Lugging himself around was wearying enough.

Their father was an enigma and their mother a corpse. The only fortunate thing about his birth was the timing. Cubs were born everyday and often in sizable litters. One more could slip under the radar... No one would even notice.

The freedom to hide out in the open wouldn't last forever, though. Eventually, someone would acknowledge his mother was gone or hear from one of his siblings what had happened or maybe from that reaver who had left them out here, Zilly. One way or the other, someone would ask a damning question, and when they did he'd be in trouble. But I'll be gone by then, Josen thought. I'll be gone before they figure it out.

He thought it every night, but when morning came, he woke up right where his dreams had left him. Easier said than done, escaping was, and believed a possibility due only to youthful folly.

Today, he insisted. Today he would leave. Once no one was looking and after he'd eaten. This time, he meant it — and he meant that he meant it.

It'd been two days since he'd last eaten. Or was it three? Four? Long enough he'd forgotten how many. There weren't enough carcasses for him to pilfer from, just piles of bones and rot. Impulse control wasn't typically something someone was born with, and when faced with hunger, even those who were might falter.

The bird was small and blue with a beak more long than wide and too much familiarity when speaking with a lion to not belong here. She was someone's friend or pet.

Had been someone's friend or pet. During their seemingly innocent conversation, she'd hopped across the stone and far too close. She'd pat him on the shoulder with a wing and said, "But that's just my opinion," and that was when Josen had lunged for her. He carried his kill beyond the gathering area with lots of patience and a little luck. He would just devour everything but the bones before anyone could think to blame him. He would just —

Stop. Josen stopped dead in his tracks; not far from him, he could see Bousvor lounging, and here he was with the corpse of somebody's familiar in his jaws. He stared at the older lion, wide-eyed and too petrified to move.

Sorry for the wait on this.

The bird will be an NPC companion to Niklas, standoffish son of the former Warlord. I figure Bousvor can vaguely recognize her or just assume Josen snagged himself a random bird depending on which way you wanna go with it. <3

I doubt he'd recognize the bird as I can't say he knows the lion.

The white maned male opened his eyes at the sound of small footsteps. It was the sound of the tracks stopping that really caught his attention. His eyes opened and found the cub staring at him. Bousvor noted the bird hanging from his jaws. He didn't know this cub, but he really didn't have any reason to know cubs. From the cub's expression he didn't expect an adult to be here perhaps.

He raised a paw to signal the cub to come closer. Normally he wouldn't involve himself with a cub, but it didn't look as if the cub would be able to do anything otherwise or until he left. "Caught it yourself?" he asked softly once the cub was close enough. Bousvor didn't attempt to take the bird from him though.

Yar, I know! Niklas is mine so I'm aware they haven't RPed together, but it doesn't mean they haven't seen each other since they live in the same place. S'all good, s'all good. =]

Josen considered running. He regretted not doing so. "Yeah, by myself," he replied, by then standing closer to Bousvor. When he'd beckoned Josen closer, reluctantly the cub had obeyed. His words were muffled, mouth full of feathers and blood, as he didn't set the bird down to speak. "I need to go eat it before it starts smelling."

We should rp them together some time then. ^_^

The male nodded approval to hear the cub had caught it himself. "Well done." Now he took a closer look. Was he perhaps a bit skinny? He shook his head at the mention of it smelling. It wouldn't start smelling for quite some time; it could be he was afraid Bousvor had an interest in his catch. "Sit and eat then. What is your name?" There was a hunch in the back of his mind that the cub might be a thrall. A cub, even a thrall cub, should of had food provided for him. "Family?"
