Humans have depicted their expectations of first encounter with other sentient beings {"aliens"} in various different ways, through various different mediums. The most popular modern medium is through media - movies and shows. They have shown other sentient beings as violent or as benevolent. They were beautiful or repulsive. How they were depicted always varied. One thing was for sure - the actual event changed many things.
Twenty years ago, Sentient beings made up of "light" found Earth in their travels. They found our planet through the very satellites that transmitted our media signals around the world. They landed on the planet and assimilated the human form to better blend in. They contacted the country that produced the most media on extra-terrestrial life (the United States) believing that would be an indication for an open-minded group of people to make contact with. Once contact was established and the Government had positioned them under military control, saying that it was standard procedure, they were kept away from public eyes.
For five years the aliens were monitored and lied to by the government without civilian knowledge. They were kept in containment zones as their threat level was determined. During such a time, the American Government came up with a frequency that would trap them inside of the Earth's atmosphere. When one brave Duatiarwen found out about this plan, they tried to stop it from happening by ambushing a press conference.
This press conference was set up as a way to lie to the American people about why new satellites were being put up into space. In their attempt to stop this from happening they were caught on the news. They were also caught in the middle of the first demonstration and haven't been heard from sense. Unfortunately, despite the brave Duatiarwen's effort, the satellites went up and started to send the signals around Earth. This stopped them from being able to leave and made them unable to communicate with more of their kind. However, now that the public knew they existed the government couldn't hide the contact anymore. Instead they confined them to old military bases as they tried to figure out what to do with the displaced aliens.
Fifteen years later...to the present.
The Duatiarwen's are allowed out of the base to roam among humans. The catch is that they are still not given documentation of any sort which limits the jobs they are allowed to do, and the places they are allowed to live. They also do not have rights to their judicial system so any infractions of the rules done by them may be punishable by whatever is deemed appropriate at that time and place. There are humans, however, that are out there trying to help them. They might be involved in the legal system. They might be community leaders urging for peace and acceptance. Or they might even be individuals just trying to be a good person. Yet despite the good nature of these people...so little is known to the public about their visitors made up of 'Light'.
Why did they come? What are they really like? And what can they even do that made the Governments treat them so hostilely at first?
Ｌｅｖｅｌ -This will be a Lazy Literate Roleplay. That means you are expected to post 8 to 10 sentences per post minimum with an attempt at grammar and spelling. And at this level you should know better than to god mode. If a fight breaks out between characters please talk about it in the OOC, Chat Room, or through pms. If a conclusion can not be reached there, please bring it to me and I will weigh in with an objective point of view.
Ｊｏｉｎｉｎｇ - Please send in a reserve form to me via PM with the subject title of "Starlight - Reserved". After you send that in you have about three days to get in a profile. The profile link should be labeled "Starlight - Profile". You will find instructions for the reserve and profile here. Please make sure to read carefully. If you're accepted (don't worry, I'm not that harsh) I will tell you directly and you may begin posting.
Ｃｈａｒａｃｔｅｒ Ａｍｏｕｎｔｓ - You may have two characters each. However, if you are playing a female your second character must be male. If you are playing an alien your second character must then be a human.
Ｃｈａｒａｃｔｅｒ Ｒｏｌｅｓ - If you are playing an alien (a Duatiarwen) then you need to align your character to the faction of your choice. They are not forced to align with a faction that they don't agree with so please don't make them contrary to their own choice. If you're playing a human keep within the logical bounds of a human being. They also can't go around knowing everything about the Duatiarwen without a very good reason just as they wouldn't know everything about humans.
Ｉｍａｇｅｓ - All images should be of real people. If you are unable to do the markings yourself, please send me the images you need them on and will do my very best to add things on there for you.
Ｐｏｓｔｉｎｇ Ｒｅｑｕｉｒｅｍｅｎｔｓ - You are required to post once a week unless there's something holding you up. If that's the case, just let us know by posting in the chat thread. As for posting formats you need to have a picture of your character in the post along with their general location somewhere near the top. Do not post anything under size 11 and please avoid hard to see colors.
Ｄｕａｔｉａｒｗｅｎｓ over their existence they have formed five factions known as the ＡＲＷＥＮ Pathways, each with their unique abilities that have been taught through the generations. These abilities are not genetically heritable but must be chosen. Once they have chosen a faction and the gift set that comes with it, they are unable to learn from any other faction. Originally they come from a system they identified as Ｄｕａｔｉ and have roamed the cosmos for longer than any of them can remember, longer than their records go back. As so they have had no permanent home since they first left the Ｄｕａｔｉ system.
They have visited many planets and interacted with many other species.They have, in fact, come to Earth before. They found a sentient species, humans. However, the different migratory colonies didn't stay for long periods of time as that wasn't their way. Besides they didn't want to influence the developing cultures too much as the visits had been before humans reached the space age. The short duration of their stays didn't matter as they made an impression on the ancient human civilizations during their multiple visits.
Ｂｉｏｌｏｇｙ
Their natural form is that akin to light. They can take on physical form but it is malleable. That is to say that they take on the rough shape and coloration of whatever sentient species they came in contact with. To do this they must first come into contact with the species to acquire a prototype of the species' DNA in order to form a shell that mimics that species form. From their they form their appearances based on the resemblance that best personifies their essence. The one thing that stops them from appearing exactly like the species they are copying are markings unique to the individual - markings that show up no matter their form and may appear similar to the Earth's concept of "Tribal Tattoos".Their individual markings glow as a sign that their light based essence is leaking through the shell to preform their learned abilities.
Appearances aside, however, they are still different from the creatures they copy. Inside of their shell, they are still a bundle of energy and light. This means they do not have blood. Their human shell also lacks many organs that humans believe are vital to life. It is built from woven muscle to be supported by their own light-based body. The only organs it utilizes are skin, an esophagus, vocal cords, a stomach-like area, eyeballs, and a mock up of primary sex organs. Any bodily openings (ears, nose, etc) are eventually closed off with a membrane.
As such they can not ingest, or even taste, food the way a human would as they have no excretory system for waste byproducts. Instead, to maintain their essence and their shell, they have three sources of sustenance that they need to absorb. Each different source of energy seems to provide different 'nutrients' that help them sustain their physical form an energy levels. Without a balance of all three sources they are prone to their own forms of illness. The first one is low UV rays such as short exposures to sunlight. The second one is body and other sources of heat such as geothermic energy. The final source is metabolized bio-matter. Their race has developed capsules that, when added to water, provide such dissolving nutrients. Another source is fresh sources of blood from organisms with a developed digestive track. All this liquid matter is stored in a stomach like area inside of their shell until they are able to slowly absorb it and use it to keep their shell's skin healthy and in working condition.
Even with their human-esque shell on all Duatiarwens are highly allergic to varying levels of radiation - even standing near a microwave is damaging. They feel the same amount of physical pain as the species they are copying when their outer 'shell' is damaged. They also have a hard time containing themselves in a damaged shell, so if it's an open wound they might not be able to sustain it for long periods of time. With a few exceptions they are unable to heal their physical forms. Once they loose their shell form they must create a new one which can take a long time. Without a new shell the UV level of Earth can override them, causing them pain and eventual death.
Ｔｈｅ Ｆａｃｔｉｏｎ
Ａｋｅｔａ - Teaches fluidity and adaptability. They also teach their members to be patient and reserved with their actions and their words in order to conserve their inner strength for when it is most needed. As such they tend to be good teachers for academia.Those who choose this path learn and develop influence over water, allowing them to move it as they will. This also gives them the ability to stay in water for long periods of time, and as such they have developed astonishingly good eyesight while in their shell. They also can take pressure levels on their shell that other factions can not, which allows them to be impacted less from blunt forces than the others.
Ｒａｎｏｋ - Are known for their passion and zealousness. They are often sought after as protectors when faced with hostile environments. As such most of this faction was the one hit the hardest upon the arrival to Earth. It is no wonder that with such teachings comes the control over the element of energy - fire, heat, and forms of electricity. They can not be damaged by it and they are also able to produce the different forms of energy. They also are the only faction who do not require the absorption of UV rays or heat energy for sustenance as they produce their own.
Ｗａｓｅｔ - Is the faction that teaches curiosity and compassion for life. As such they are often the caretakers and healers of their race, and are often hidden or protected because of that. They also are taught to keep the full range of their ability a secret from other species. This is because of the fact that their powers stem from manipulating other people's form and biology. They can heal themselves as well as others through physically touching them with their essence. They can also help change someone over time by changing their genetic code.
Ｅｆｙｕｍ - This is the faction that teaches awareness and appreciation. These people are often the ones who are ambassadors to other sentient species as they pick up on cultures and customs the easiest. They are the ones who usually are sent first so they can learn what is on the land and how to navigate on it. This is because their teachings connect them with physical substances such as minerals and organic growth such as plants. This means that they can influence plants to grow how they want and at what rate they want as well as have the ability to separate different minerals from one other with a touch of their hand. Because of this connection to the earth they are able to absorb geothermic energy at a much easier rate than the other factions as well as eat the sugars from the xylem and phylum of plants instead of broken down proteins.
Ｎｉｐｅｔ - These people are the ones that may seem to have too much energy at times. They are all about individual freedom and not being confined to any one place for too long. Because of this love of freedom they have an affinity with the air and sky like none of the other factions. They can us their inner 'light' to rise their shell up into the sky and fly. They are also the most sensitive to people's movements as they can feel the vibrations in the air very accurately. This may lead to the reason why their reaction times are much quicker than those from the other factions.
Ｏｔｈｅｒ Ａｓｐｅｃｔｓ
"Ｅａｔｉｎｇ"- This is a mixed topic. To the Duatiarwens it is okay to take in substance from UV rays while among others. The other two forms of sustenance are considered a much more private affair. Taking in broken down proteins or sugars is considered the most private of the three. By comparison taking in heat is much less private affair but it should still be limited to people that they know personally.
Ｃｈｉｌｄｈｏｏｄ - An immature (child) Duatiarwen requires the presence of others of their species in order to survive. They are unable to take in sustenance by themselves to sustain their life and must have it seeped to them through matured Duatiarwens until a time that they are stable on their own. his can range anywhere from 50 to 150 Earth Years. During this time they learn from all of the factions until the point of their Choosing.
Ｆａｃｔｉｏｎ Ｃｈｏｏｓｉｎｇ - Once a new Duatiarwen has reached a point of stability where they no longer rely on the mature one's feeding them through their energy, they are asked to choose a faction to join. Once they join they are taught and imbued with the aspects of that faction and may only have one for the rest of their life.
Ｔｏｕｃｈ - Physically touching another being is a new thing for the Duatiarwens who are not Waset. They do not have the same type of corporeal form when they're in their natural form, therefore they did not have the same type of touching. Instead they classify their forms of contact by how they energies are mingling near, on, in, or next to one another.
Pulsing - When their energies briefly touch or overlap but don't intermingle. It's considered a neutral act with the potential to be friendly. Vibing - When their energies intermingle at the edges but they're mostly just relaxing and letting their "bodies" touch as it were. It's a sign of being comfortable around someone and feeling a companionship with them. Swishing - It's when their energies do intermingle as they slowly move around each other. Pleasure-bringing activity that is more pleasurable between compatible beings. It's considered an intimate act such as kissing and sexual touches are to humans. Sparking - Is done by intermingling their energies in and out of each other, vibrating their form as well. Basically whatever movement they want within the confines of one another. This movement creates visible sparks to surround them, hence where the English naming of it came from. If they are compatible, the pleasure will be greater and produce more vibrant sparks. It is their equivalence of sex without the potential of offspring. Diffusing - It's when five compatible Duatiarwen (one from each faction) gather together and intermix the edge of their form. It slowly sticks together and forms a new life form. Then they slowly pull back and a consciousness forms in the new Duatiarwen.
Ｓｐｅｅｃｈ - In their natural forms, the Duatiarwens do not have vocal cords. Instead they transmit experiences and emotions to one another if they're in close proximity. They teach by guided demonstration. However, they take on the language and vocal capabilities of the species they are copying when they are in the shell of that species. They must then learn the language just as anyone else would have to as transmission is more difficult and distorted when they are in their shells than when they are existing in their natural state.
Ｔ ｈｅ Ｈｕｍａｎｓ
Ｔｈｅ Ｇｏｖｅｒｎｍｅｎｔ -
Twenty years ago, the Government came into contact with the Duatiarwen people. They decided That this information should be kept from the public for their own safety and studied them in private for five years. All the while they were building something to keep them on the planet in fear that they would go get more of their kind and bring warships as well, in order to colonize this world. After that period of Five years, when they released the satellites with the signal that stopped the Duatiarwens from leaving, the truth leaked out.
The government had no choice but the allow the public to know the truth, however they did control the information that the public found out about. They did not mention that the human form was not their native one, letting the public believe that they looked nearly exactly like them. They did not release any information on their dietary needs either. In fact, all they did was tell them their name, their area of origin, and admit they existed. That was it. Even to this day the Government is trying to learn about them for both beneficial and nefarious purposes. They just have be more subversive about it.
Ｄｕａｔｉ Ｂａｓｅ Ｇｕａｒｄｓ -
After that they kept the Duatiarwens at the San Francisco Base. They assigned military guards to "keep" the peace. Which meant that they paroled and made sure that the Factions were not teaching or practicing any technique that could be used in a violent manner. Practically everything was considered violent. They are allowed to do whatever they deem fit in order to stop this or to punish the Duatiarwens.
Their other duty was to make sure that there had been no exiting for the Duatiarwens and to make sure that no human got in. However now that the borders had been opened that duty has changed to making sure that humans stay out entirely. They are also to close the entrances and exists once the sun goes down, letting no Duatiarwen in or out until the sun rises.
Ｌｅｇａｌ Ｐｒａｃｔｉｔｉｏｎｅｒｓ -
The field is divided. Some think that the Duatiarwens have shown no ill will, thus should be shown the same consideration as any other immigrant. Others believe that they should have full citizenship established because of the lack of legal representation and humanity they faced when dealing with the government all those years ago. And yet some still believe that they are planning to dismantle the social system at the very least, and at most wipe out the human race to colonize the world. These ultra-negative views are in the minority, however, and the debate about allowing the Duatiarwens rights seem to be tipping on a probationary status.
Ｃｉｔｉｚｅｎｓ -
Some people might love that they're there. Some people might hate them. Some people might just be fascinated by their existence. And yet there are others that are afraid that if they get full legal rights, that might somehow effect their lives and their jobs. Not to mention the nation as a whole, or maybe even the world! In short, an individuals views are their own and there isn't really a group consensus on this issue.
The city by the bay is one of the most diverse cities found in the United States. It has influences from all over the world with many different subcultures. Inside of the city life continued on as it always had. It has a booming economy and has, in recent years, become even more of a tourist attraction. This is because fifteen years ago the Government re-seized control of the military base that had been turned into Treasure Island in 2009.
Recently there has been an increase of Duatiarwens brave enough to venture into the city as well. And with such a diversity in the city itself, they do not stick out nearly as much as one would expect. As such, most people over look them. However, there are some humans who actively seek them out. It might be a helping hand or an act of violence, nothing is certain. The only certain thing is that there are very mixed feelings in even a city as diverse as San Francisco about the Aliens being allowed to mingle with humans.
『ＤＵＡＴＩ ＢＡＳＥ』
This island was formally San Francisco's Treasure Island. Before that it was an abandoned military base. Now it serves as a way to confine the Duatiarwen's to a singular location. It has little social structures supported by the government and it's citizens are not given documentation of any sort. The first major social structure that are in place are a system of guards that enforce the law restricting Duatiarwen's training in any fashion that may be seen as preparing for violence. The last social structure set up is a system of distribution for their capsule supplements, which are made off of the island and distributed to them once a month by the military.
Inside of this area, the Duatiarwens have learned how to take care of themselves. Education is a system of that moves from family groups teaching their dependents all the way up to factions teaching their new members. Medical treatments are also taken care of by the community, though the government still has no idea how this happens. The do not have a working electrical system and so much produce their own candles. This requires them to raise their own animals as well as farm in what little space they have. Any surplus material that is not confiscated is sold to the guards at a much cheaper rate than it would have been otherwise. Its is, in itself, a self contained community with a modest trade based economy otherwise.

The information that should go here is very subjective. You can put whatever you want really. Things about their markings. Details about their education. Their personal likes or dislikes. The possibilities are pretty much endless. If you think it's pertinent to their character then we probably would too. One thing that would be helpful to include would be their relative age.
