Ever since Rin's room had been broken into, Melvin was now forced to having to box up Rin's things then and there before he even felt prepared and to get everything into his room before someone tried breaking in. It would have been far too easy to steal any of her things, and given the fact someone had already walked in feeling that an open door was an invitation, he couldn't count on people being respectful for those who were gone to not just come in and make themselves comfortable.

So he had cleared his room to one corner with his own personal belongings and cleared out more than half of his room just for Rin's things. He already had all the things she had left in her room in a box already, and he had a pile of bags and tubowares he had bought when he had went off island with Rep. He took all these storage supplies and went into Rin's room, and with a whiskey bottle on the counter to give him strength, he started to sort through her things. He knew it was going to be an all day affair, and while he might be able to ask someone to help, he didn't exactly trust anyone touching Rin's things. He feared they would break something, take something, or otherwise ruin some part of Rin that was lingering on the object.

So he spent all day organizing clothes into vacuum press bags, placing them into tubowares and then working to collect everything in boxes that went with similar items. He marked the boxes with a list of all that was inside, along with a number of which box it was. That way, when he moved each box to his room, if one was missing, he knew someone took it.

It was well into the next morning when he finished boxing everything up, and he had taken a brief nap among the boxes here and there before he was ready to start moving each box to his room. Taking another drink, he took one box and went to his room, setting the first one in the corner. He then went and got another. It was during his third box, a hefty one containing a lot of Rin's books, that he ran into someone in the hallway and dropped the entire box.

"s**t!" He managed and checked the box to make sure it wasn't damaged - before remembering that they were books and more durable than that.He paused to look up briefly. "uh....sorry..." He checked the box again just in case it really was damaged. Okay, so it was books but if he even hurt a single page, he didn't know what he would do.

It had been a little bit since everyone had returned from the tower mission and as far as Peyton had seen all the injuries obtained from the fall had healed up. But there were other injuries, ones far less visible, less physical, but no less painful.

Her head down, eyes on her phone as she walked down the hall, she didn't see Melvin and his box coming until he had run right into her, knocking her off her feet, and dropping the box at the same time. An attempted catch was made, but fingers hadn't touched cardboard until it was too late, and she pulled them back quickly when she saw the Lifer's reaction to the drop. A second later the pieces fell into place and she was looking up at the boy boy with a sympathetic frown. "It's okay." No harm done.

"Is your box alright?" Was he alright?

She'd tired to talk to him, to let him know she was there if he needed someone that had an inkling of experience when what he was going for, but he'd shot her down. His grief had been too strong at the time, she hadn't wanted to push. The offer had stood, even if he hadn't taken her up on it.

He looked up and really took notice that it was Peyton. His mind was distracted by other things. The books. The list of other things he had to move, and in what order designated by weight. He had to guess and plan how they would fit in his room, but more importantly was managing time. He had to get each box in his room as quickly as possible else he risked someone coming into Rin's room. Everything was already neatly stored in boxes, meaning that anyone could take a box and in turn make out with plenty of things they might pawn off or barter with. He couldn't let that happen.

His spat with Peyton was not even a speck on his priorities list, nor was apologizing, when he had other things on his mind. Picking up the box took some effort, mainly due to its size, but he managed to get it back in his arms again. "Uh, it's fine. It's not my box, but it's fine." He was panting slightly, winded and starting to get out of breath with the heavier boxes. Despite hunter physical boosts, he still wasn't as in shape as say - a Sun was.

He tried his best to move around her without bumping into her again. Rather hard when you and the box took up a lot of space (mainly the box). "I have to hurry…sorry. I need to get these boxes moved before someone takes anything." He informed her, knowing that she knew, just like everyone else knew, how people would jump on whatever they assumed was free like hotcakes.

He only had to go two more doors before he juggled the box and had to place it back down, and then open his room. To which he had to pick up the box again, got into his room, and set the box down next to the others in what he hoped was the best formation. He then left his room, locked it, and then started to head back down the hallway past Peyton again. There were still more boxes to go.

He paused only to look her over. "You're okay, right?" He asked the question hastily as he glanced up the hallway, hoping no one was passing by Rin and her open door with the broken lock.

She was giving him a very measuring look as he adjusted his grip on the box, breathing labored, sweat a subtle gleam on his upper lip. When he tried to move past her she side stepped to flatten herself against the wall to make it easier on him. Not really sure what else to do. She wanted to help, but she honestly wasn't sure how, at least not emotionally.

But maybe...?

"I'm fine," she assured him, the corner of her lips ticking up in a quick smile, there and gone in the blink of an eye. Pale eyes had fallen to the box in his arms. "Do you have a lot of those to move? Do you need a hand?"

Maybe she couldn't do anything to help fix the hurt inside him, but she could definitely carry heavy boxes. The teen trailed behind him as he made his way to his own door and let himself in to place the box on a stack of others. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out whose boxes they were, if they weren't Melvin's.

He paused, considering what Peyton had offered. "Um..well...I should...it's a lot so I ..." It was a lot and imposing that on anyone else seemed wrong. He also didn't like letting anyone else in Rin's room, but considering it had already been broken into, he already failed keeping it secure. He also had to consider that it wasn't going to be her room anymore with the lock broken and the notice to remove her things. As much as he wished to wait and hope Rin showed up in time to get her room, he had to move her things.

He had to move them all now.

But with Peyton, he could move them before anyone else took anything, and he could watch her to see if she tried taking anything....though she didn't seem the type. Even with what Rep said about her, she had yet to be too cruel to him. She also helped explain a lot to him without becoming exhausted.

He stopped, hesitating to take a step as he looked down the hallway and around the corner. "....you can....if you want." He said, and decided to leave it at that. She could leave any time.

Glancing back at her, not sure if she was going to follow, he started down the hallway and up to the next floor to where Rin's room was. The door was ajar, and he passed by the doorknob laying unscrewed on the floor. He went inside where everything was boxed. The room was barren. The bed was stripped. Curtains gone. The boxers were numbers and had a list of what was inside written in black sharpie.

Melvin looked around at the boxes to decide which one to take and then moved to one that held various odds and ends Rin kept.

She stood there quietly and waited for him to decided if his need for help out weighed his desire to keep Rin's possessions untouched by anyone but himself. She'd have assured him she'd treat any and all items with care, but she wasn't sure if being that insightful at the moment was good or not. Melvin was a hard one to read. It shouldn't have been surprising, given his inability to properly read those around him.

When he decided a helping hand would be, if not welcome, than appreciated, she flashed him a soft smile. When he started moving again she followed him, hands tucking briefly into her back pockets until they got to hat had to be Rin's room.

Everything was already packed up neatly and ready to go, and she lingered near the stack of boxes and waited for Melvin to point out what exactly he wants her to carry. He had a very clear system in place, if the numbers and lists were any indication, and she was here to help, rather than cause any further stress for the poor Lifer.

"Do you have a preference on what you would like me to carry for you?" Her voice was gentle.

He was looking at the boxes, staring at them, before he pulled out of his thoughts and looked to Peyton.

"Uh...whatever you want to carry. I've been going to the heaviest ones first. They are the lowest numbered boxes. Higher number boxes are lighter. Just! - Just....don't touch any boxes named fragile. I'll be carrying those." They weren't even necessarily fragile, but they felt precious to him.

He moved to pick up another heavy box and was glad that, overall, Hunters didn't pack much. Aside from books and a few things, the rest were clothes and supplies. Rin had the same life and materials that most hunters had, and they were all the things that, to some, might seem easily replaceable.

Melvin knew different. They couldn't be replaced, because they held some fragment of Rin in them. Having them was like carrying pieces of her presence. Of her being. Of her existing. It was a strange way to consider it, but it felt like a warm space that he was waiting for Rin to step into by having these things. It made her seem more able to be alive.

He headed towards the door. "Don't strain yourself. You can stop whenever you want." He pointed out, not wanting to keep Peyton's good will bound to him in any way. No one had to help him. He didn't deserve it.

He was the cause of all of this after all.

Avoid the boxes labeled 'Fragile'. Got it. Peyton took a moment to make a not of which boxes were to be left alone, then selected one of the remaining at random, hefting it up into thin arms. Tiny as she was, the box should have been heavy, but she was stronger than she looked, and Warrick gave her an excellent edge. Lugging around a few boxes wasn't terribly difficult.

Box in arms, she headed out, following behind Melvin. "Really, it's okay." She didn't have anything else to do, and helping a friend in need was important to her.

When they reached his room she shuffled her arm load around until she could see the number, then took a glance at the pile. She wasn't entirely sure if she was right, but his system seemed fairly straightforward, so she set her box where she thought it belonged, lining up the edges neatly, then headed back to Rin's room to grab another.

For a while it was quiet work, but after the second box had been dropped off she couldn't help but fill the silence. "So do you know who broke in?"

It was rather self-explanatory, not that Melvin wouldn't point out if things needed to be arranged a different way. The boxes lined up by number and once space ran out, you started to stack. He started doing this with the second box, and once he set it down, took a breath. There weren't many boxes left now.

The question was not welcomed, but it was conversation. "No....I saw a girl in there. Cee. She said she just welcomed herself in. I checked her, and..she had nothing on her. I couldn't keep her there. I don't know who did it. I'll have to ask someone in Death to look into seeing if there is any security cameras around the dorms to find out who did it. When I do find out..." He let that idea trail and turned.

"People are real shitty here. It's bad enough no one can work together or they tear each other apart on the island, but to break into a room while someone is away? How are you supposed to fight alongside or protect s**t like that?" He hated these people. They were scum.

Then again, he was just as shitty.

He headed back to the door to fetch another box.

Peyton's box was set with the others, and she took time to make sure the corners lined up nicely before straightening up again and looking towards Melvin as he answered her question. Nodding along, she frowned. Cee was a familiar name, she could pick the girl out in a crowd, but she didn't know much about her, so it was hard to know if she would have actually broken in. On that, at least, Pey didn't comment, merely gave her undivided attention.

When he gave his pessimistic generalization she sighed. "They can be, yeah." She remembered this, all of this. Maybe it hadn't been a significant other that had died, but it had been someone significant to Peyton's life. Someone she'd loved, depended on.

To her, it had seemed like the pain had hit everyone equally, but in those outside their immediate little family, the pain had faded quickly, they'd begun to grow cold about it. To scoff at her father for holding onto his hurt so long(which after a while she did as well). They had seemed very dispassionate to Peyton, who had been so young at the time.

And she didn't want to tell him that Rin wasn't just away. Death to Peyton was a very finite thing, despite having died a time or two herself and come back, one way or another. That wasn't a bubble she was willing to pop.

Frowning thoughtfully, she fell into step behind him, heading back to the other room to grab more boxes.
