The Dovaa are Trapped!

The Dovaa are locked in! The boats holding the Mara surround the portal, keeping those inside trapped. They have no need of water or food so the only way to break the siege is to kill them all. But to kill them all is hard to do! The Mara Mages have combined their power to create a small spire of earth that rises from the ocean floor to form a new platform that replaces the wreaked one destroyed in the initial contact. They now have a foot hold outside the portal in which to stand and draw power from.

The Mara, like in the other lands, came as a surprise and slaughtered the portal guards before being replled by the mages within. Now they stand guard outside, always trying to break in.

Marcus cannot get word out, and no one can get word in. The dovaa in the plane are truly trapped. Orders for rationing goes out and all are asked to help in the war effort.

Those with Army ranks are to man the barricades keeping the Mara out as well as keeping the peace and making sure no riots occur.

Hunting Mara's

You may still roll for Mara encounters! Roll the dice in this thread and at the end of the meta, claim all your loot and EXP! Or you can also just link to a Hunt thread in the Hunt forum if that is easier for you.
However, the Mara's have not made it inside very far, so to encounter them you must be at the barricades keeping them out!
At the bottom of your post keep track of the Word count for the hunts (you still need 300 per Mara!), the EXP gained and so on.

Sometimes the Mule will quote and tell you that you are being ambushed or attacked by Mara, treat these like normal Mara hunts and follow the prompt given.

Karayan
Dovaa, Expert Gaili
Celestial Plane, searching for Yrre

Karayan was glad that he had gone home to drop off the Dragon Orbs and Mara Heads now, sure he found himself trapped in his own homeland but at least it was better then being trapped outside of his own homeland. Here at least he could join his family, fight alongside them, and see about protecting this place. Before he could do any of that though he was on a small side mission, off to find and rescue a certain little Dovaa that he knew. With as much of a mess as there was going on he feared that Yrre would find himself in over his head. Being that he wasn't part of any clan yet he had no magic to protect himself with! There was no baking magic and there was no beating the Mara to deal with a spoon, as such it was up to him to find Yrre and bring him back to where his family was gathering.

Once he got Yrre then he would see about going into battle against the Mara again, to force them back out of the Celestial Plane along with the rest of the Dovaa who were fighting so hard. When he was fighting with the Mara in Eowyn they didn't exactly seem all that smart, which was saying something since Karayan wasn't exactly the sharpest sword in the arsenal. To think that they would figure out how to steal and use boats. It made for a bit of a mess for sure.

Overhead was Ember, flying around, keeping her eyes open for Yrre as well. Sure, the boy didn't seem to like her one bit but Karayan like Yrre and she like Karayan which meant that she had to help Karayan find Yrre regardless. Once they did that she would be able to return to the safety of the pack he carried and would no longer have to worry about being seen by the scary Mara! The sooner they saved Kara's little friend the better if you asked her! She was a bit of a coward and hated being out in the open when there was a potential for battle.

Yrre
Dovaa, Apprentice Clanless
Celestial Plane, searching for Yrre

The whole city seemed to be a miss.. Seriously though, there was so much ruckus going on that Yrre couldn't risk being on the streets. Not when he seemed ragged and dirtier than normal. How was he supposed to go on the street like that, everyone would think he was out and trying to steal from them. And while, normally, maybe he'd do that, he wasn't about to lose anymore fingers. And he had hardly the energy to move. Though the rationing had just begun, the food had already hit the bottom of the barrel in the slums of the city. There was no way he could get anything from his brother, not when they struggled to sell even a loaf of bread. Feeding Yrre was the least of his concerns.

For now, he peeked down from the rooftops looking around to see who he could atleast try to beg from. He HATED begging, but he hated letting people he knew see him getting thinner and thinner. It was bad enough he got so much pity from people who saw he was missing fingers or what not, but to let them coddle him.. Only ONE family had the right to do that now, and he wasn't going to let them see him like this. If his brother knew.. He probably not be able to leave his room again.

But that dragon. That BLOODY dragon that never left Karayan's side was hovering around.. And that could only mean the massive man was nearby as well. There was no way he could hide from him, not if the man was seriously looking for him.. Sighing, he moved to the edge of the building again, looking down and calling out to him.

"Karayan!" He wasn't going to leave the roof top, not when it took so long to get up on here.

Esmeralda
Dovaa, Expert Peisio
Celestial Plane, gone off into the crowd to find the master scholars

Esmeralda had been visiting family with Minerva when they’d gotten the news that they were stuck in the celestial plane. Her first thought went to her husband who was still missing and then to the protection of her daughter. Minerva was still young, but she was just as eager to join into the fighting to protect what was hers even if she was only half Dovaa. It worried her to no end that she would be unable to properly protect Minnie if something happened, if only she’d stayed as a fighter this wouldn’t have happened. If only she’d graduated sooner and could use her dragon form.

Her own family had already gone out to fight and Esmeralda was now weaving through the throngs of people on the street. Esmeralda held Minerva’s hand all too tightly, dragging her daughter along who couldn’t keep up with her mother. Her mind was whirling, looking for a place that was safe. She needed to speak with the masters, find one and decide from there how to go about things. As her mind whirled however, Minerva's hand loosened in her grip and both lost contact. In her panic the peisio Dovaa didn't realize her daughter was lost in the sea of people.

Minerva
Dovaa Oblivionite Hybrid, Apprentice Clanless
Celestial Plane, lost in the sea of people

It was rare that her mother took her to the Celestial Plane and when they did go it was to visit her grandmother and grandfather. The morning had started with an alarm going off, the family quickly on their feet and her mother jumping out of bed so quickly Minerva had never seen anything like it before. For the briefist instant she thought her father might have returned home, returned to them. But as yelling and chaos exploded around her she knew that was not the case. “Out of bed quickly Minerva, dress fast.” She’d done as her grandmother had told her without thinking.

When she’d emerged she was surprised to find her uncles and grandparents all dressed in fine armor and heading out. Her mother ushered them out the door and then turned, walking quickly to her and grabbing onto her shoulders. “We’re under attack; we need to get you to safety.” Her mother had grabbed her hand and then began dragging her out the door in the opposite direction the crowd was headed. Fear gripped her heart then, where was her father? Her mother was not a fighter, daddy was. He wasn’t here to protect them, what would happen?

At some point in the chaos the pulling stopped and Minerva’s pace slowed down. She’d lost her mother and people were walking past her and she had no idea where she was. “Mom?” Her voice couldn’t get over the crowd, there was crying all around her from other children and people were pushing her. The tears came to her eyes quickly, she had no idea what was going on and now she was lost and her mother had left her here. Just like her father, both were gone now. She should have chosen a clan, that’s why they’d come in the first place. She’d wanted to talk to someone about her clan and now she was powerless.

Karayan paused in his running, looking around from side to side, then looked a bit on the confused side. He'd of bet anything that he'd heard Yrre's voice but he just didn't see his little friend anywhere! A moment of searching more and suddenly Ember was flying down to hover in front of him, chirping at him in a displeased manner before yanking on one of his highly decorated horns until he looked up toward a nearby roof top. He blinked a couple times when he noticed that Yrre was hiding up there. A rather good idea aside from the fact that he might very well get surrounded if the Mara were to get this far! He didn't want to just leave him up there, not when things were as messy as they were at the moment.

"Come on, Ember, time for you to hide." He said, holding open his pack which she was only too happy to dart into. Once she was safely inside he hurried forward, making a couple motions with his hands to drag some pillars of earth out of the ground, making them into a vaguely stair shaped pattern for him to hop his way up. Once at the top of his jagged creation he jumped from there to the roof and gave a smile, "Phew, I found you! It's getting to be such a mess that I wasn't sure if I would!" He said, hurrying over to close the distance between himself and the younger Dovaa, scooping him up into a tight hug.

After a moment though he set Yrre down on his feet again, looking him over, then made a face, "You feel lighter then normal." Not something he liked the feel of. Given the mess at the moment he supposed that people might be too panicked to come to him to buy stuff, huh? No matter, he'd take care of that too! Giving his friend a smile he said, "Don't worry, we will get you something to eat once we get home." He told the other boy, once more wrapping his arms around him, scooping him up off his feet, then started toward the edge of the roof with him. From the high up perch he felt that he should be able to find the best path to bring them back to where his family was gathered, he just had to find it was all. It might almost be worth the effort to stick to the roof tops, there were less people and likely less Mara as well to get between them and their goal. The problem being that he'd have to expend a lot of energy to follow such a course of action. Hrm, what to do next.

Yrre still wasn't used to seeing people actually use their powers in the city. Watching Karayan use his powers to just climb up the side of the building when it took him forever to do so on his own made him jealous, and filled with awe. And he was even nice enough to put away that terrible little worm with wings. Sometimes, still he was baffled by how the older man was so lithe, maybe HE was the faekarat.

"A little lighter, yeah. Foods been scarce around here, and you know that I don't want to bother your family with things like that. Foods been scarce before. But.. Yeah, i do appreciate the offer. I don't quite know what's going on down there, but my brother.. I can't find him, so it's best if I just don't go back there. There's nothing to eat anyway." What he wouldn't give for a sandwich.. Maybe just even some bread. And Kara's home always had so much food.. He couldn't help but wonder how rationing would go for them. They were so frivolous... But hey! Food, so hungry..

But not hungry enough to just let himself enjoy being carried around like some sort of happy little princess. There were more than just him being lost and alone, that's for certain. Yrre was an irritable little kid at times, but he still couldn't ignore another kid crying. Not when it wasn't their own fault.

"Kara, wait.. Look, right there. There's a kid crying. Do you think she's lost..?"

Karayan gave a little grumble, "You should know that you can come to me whenever you need to." He told Yrre, "Even if its just something as simple as wanting to sleep over, play in the tub, or get food. You know I wouldn't turn you away, neither would Gram." He gave a bit of a laugh and added, "Even that stiff, humorless Johan would probably help you out if you ran into him. Just keep it in mind, alright?" He would rather know that Yrre was safe even if it meant him showing up at all hours of the day or night with a request! Especially now that they were stuck in the Celestial Plane, unable to leave due to the Mara invasion. He'd much rather Yrre just stick with him until things were better.

As Yrre toled him to wait and look he turned his attention toward where the smaller Dovaa was motioning toward, looking around, before spotting a little girl amongst the crowd. She seemed quite upset, maybe lost, and like Yrre if he had to guess she didn't look as if she were a part of a clan. No clan meant no magic and no magic meant to no way to defend herself if the Mara came this way. He shifted in place, thoughful for a moment, before he nodded, "Alright, let's see about fetching her too. Maybe we can figure out where she belongs on our way?" Not as if he hadn't carried around two people before. He'd done it once before and at least time those he was taking care of weren't injured he thought to himself, "Heeeeere we go then!" He said, jumping off the roof, his wings opening up so that he could glide down to the ground. The moment he touched down he closed his wings to his back so he could swing Yrre around so he could hold onto his back, "Hold on tight, alright? I don't want you to fall."

With that he rushed forward toward where the little Dovaa was at, hurrying over to her side and held a hand out to her, "Come on, little one, we are heading toward safety, you should come with us." He said to her, giving her a smile as he waited for her to take him up on his offer of a quick rescue. Hopefully, when they returned to the roof tops, she would be able to spot where it was she was supposed to be or who she was supposed to be with... unless of course she was like Yrre? He supposed they'd find out soon enough.

The hand came as a surprised and Minerva followed the arm up and up and all the way up to a face. Was this another Dovaa Hyrbid like herself? He was quite pretty with his horns. And that was all the distraction she needed to stop the tears from flowing out, her mother forgotten. Then she noticed someone else, another Dovaa and she stared at him too. Was he going around saving little Dovaa children? Because the other child was also clanless. Well, in her world a group was always better than being alone, something her mother had taught her about some of the dragons.

“Okay.” Minerva took the hand in front of her, wondering how strong this guy was and wondering how many other kids he could take with him. At least though, they were headed to safety and since her mom had said they were headed to a safe place maybe her mom was there. Or well she hoped, because if her mother was not then she’d have to go out and find her. She didn’t want to be left with no parents after this, whatever this fight was. She was already waiting for the day she could search for her father on her own, she didn’t want to go looking for a missing mom as well.

---------------------------------

When the Peisio Dovaa arrived at the scholar’s door she realized she’d lost her daughter, she scanned the crowed quickly and was about to go back when her name was called. “Esmeralda! Quickly come inside.” It was one of the older masters and he was beckoning her, she had to go. Turning her back, Esmeralda went up the steps and quickly took the outstretched hand for her. “We are most glad to see you here Esmeralda, you will be bumped to Corporal and given a small team. Your troops are meant for healing. They’re over here.” They’d gone inside and we’re headed towards a small group of five very young looking Dovaa.

“You cannot expect me to take care of these kids, my daughter is out there.” The old man made a face at her. “All our children are out there, but if the soldiers are without proper care than we can expect not to ever see our children ever again.” The man made a point, but Minerva was clanless and she could not fight with magic yet. Then again, if she ran around with her troops she might spot her or Minerva might spot her either way. “Alright than, you five come with me.”

"I know, Karayan, I know, you don't need to tell me that over and over again. I just don't like handouts, okay?" Muttering against his chest that he was still cradled against, he decided to ignore Kara up until he was shifted around, when he changed where his hands were. From being pinned up against his chest, to now gripping onto the larger dovaa's shoulders and settling between his wings, he now rested comfortably against his back, peering over his shoulder at the girl they approached.

She was a peculiar little thing.. A person that wasn't seen very often, if ever at all in the slums where he spent most of his time. Her eyes were strange and almost empty looking but with purple circles inside.. They seemed to be almost floating. All things considered, yeah, she was weird, but not weird enough to completely confuse Yrre. Hell, he was weird enough too, missing fingers and being light enough that a Uruu could probably snap another finger if he wasn't paying enough attention. He was ready to sleep, ready to get cozy in a nice warm bed, but to fall asleep right now was to become dead weight on Kara, and this so wasn't the time for it.

"Do you have parents or something, kid?" By the look of her clothes, and the fact that she seemed well fed enough, she probably was just another one of those kids that were spoiled by their parents, and just happened to get lost in a crowd due to her own inability to keep track of things. And.. And eww.. Was she crying? His eyes narrowed down at her as he scooted up Kara's back a bit more, resting his chin on the broad man's shoulders and shaking his head at her.

"Tears aren't going to do you much good now, are they? Do you think that the bad guys are going to stop and not hurt you just because you cry? Tough it up. Kara's weird and all, but he's good, he'll keep us safe."

When the girl took him up on his offer of a rescue and took his hand Karayan gave a smile, "Don't worry, I will get you both somewhere safe." He said, easily scooping the smaller Dovaa girl up, holding her with one arm so that he other would be free for him to use his magic with. It wouldn't be as strong as when he was using two hands to manipulate the earth but it would have to due. He couldn't just leave either of them behind when both were alone after all. Better that he cast a bit slower then having to do that he decided as he started to move along again, making a few motions with his hand so that he could drag a pillar of earth up from the ground under them, hopping from it to the next roof and started across it.

"These Mara are getting to be quite the pain." He murmured, looking off the roof toward the ground, searching it to make sure that there was nothing down there to worry about. Thus far they had been lucky in that no Mara had caught up to them. He could only hope that he was able to keep it that way.

As Yrre suddenly pipped up, asking about the girl's parents he turned to look over at her, "That's a good question, do you? If so we can try to keep an eye out for them as we go." Maybe in the crush of people trying to get off the streets and to safer places she'd been separated from her family? If that were the case he would do what he could to find her missing family but things seemed to be a bit of a mess at the moment, how likely would they be to find one person in all of the chaos? It would be a challenge to say the least, "Don't worry, you can stay with us for now no matter what." Whether there were people out there waiting for her or not he felt it best to keep her with them!

He got to the edge of the roof, preparing the jump from one side to the other when Yrre spoke up again, telling the girl that she had to toughen up, something that made him wince a little, "Come on now, let's all be friends." He said, the made a little face when he was called 'weird' but at least that was quickly followed up by Yrre saying that he would was also 'good' and would keep them all safe. Having Yrre's blessing as far as this venture went did put wind in his sails, "I will, I promise." He said as he took a couple steps back and then with a running start brought them from one roof top to the next. It was a slow going process but he felt that he'd be able to make it so long as he took every jump carefully and kept an eye out for the enemy.

Minerva first turned to the boy, giving him a look on his wording. “You’re a kid too,” She commented, narrowing her eyes at him. Her father might be lost, but she still had her mother. “My mother is a scholar; we were going to the masters.” This person kept on talking, Minerva couldn’t believe how rude he was! If her mother were here however, she’d probably tell her to relax and breathe and not say a word. Though there was a reason she liked the Kiandri so much, and the reply flew from her lips. “I don’t need some child telling me what to do, I am fully aware of the situation I am in.” If he was going to call her a kid, well she was going to call him a child!

There was little time to argue further, Kara had picked her up and they’d gone off bounding. Minerva was watching him work, noting he was Gali and understanding where his strength came from. Kara’s question was a genuine one, granted she’d be the only one to spot her mother. “My mother is a Peisio, white dress, black hair and white horns. Blue scales and eyes.” That seemed like a legitimate description of her mother at most times, though she didn’t know if her mother would be changing into anything for the fighting. Her grandparents and uncles had gone off to the front, that she knew for sure and Minerva doubted she’d run into them any time soon.

Okay, so Yrre wasn't known well for his kindness or his gentle temperment. In fact, he was known as the trouble maker of the slums, the one who was way more trouble than worth dealing with. So when he was trying to be nice, he came off as angry, and scornful. Most of the time, people brushed him off and just accepted the fact, but this girl was a little jerk! He was trying to be nice!

From peering over Karayan's shoulder, down at the girl who had taken his spot, he hissed at her, not caring if she looked different or had been crying earlier! She was just a little.. a little jerk!

"You know what? Since she's so certain of herself, then you should just drop her and find her own way! You're right, only she can find her mother, so let her do it. She has meat on her bones and strength to do so, so just leave her on a rooftop!" He readjusted himself between Karayan's wings, his damaged hand finding it hard to keep grip onto him. He shouldn't have agreed to ride in the back; not only was this hard to hold onto (he didn't want to put his arms around Kara's neck in fear of strangling him), but now they were stuck with this stupid girl.

(( Let me know what the two of you think of them running into some Mara. ^_^ ))

"A scholar." Karayan murmured, unable to think of any of those that he knew off hand but at least it was a start, right? A shame that he didn't know 'the masters' were that she was talking about. If he did he would probably be able to figure out which direction it would be best for them to go in to try to find the girl's mother. Said search was disrupted momentary as it seemed that the two little Dovaa that he was carrying weren't exactly hitting it off, were they? In fact he might say that they were doing the exact opposite of hitting it off. Hm... this really was complicating things just a bit, wasn't it? The fact that they were at one each others throats... still, it was at least a nice distraction from the fact that they were dealing with a real enemy he thought to himself as he headed along the next roof top even as the two of them seemed to be hissing at each other.

At least she was able to get in a description of her mother for him in between bouts he thought to himself, taking the details to heart. They were looking for a Peisio woman then, one that had black hair, white horns, and blue scales and eyes. He hoped that between knowing what she looked like and that she was wearing a white dress that he might be able to spot her in the crowd. For the time being though they would be doing all their searching from above since it kept them a little more out of the range of the Mara. He could only hope that the things didn't look up, if they were more worried about what was right in front of them they might even be able to sneak on by the creatures he thought to himself.

Coming out of his thoughts when Yrre was suddenly talking about how since Minerva seemed so certain of herself that they should leave her behind. He blinked a couple times, looking between the pair, then sighed, "Come on now, I won't be leaving either of you behind. We will be getting through this together." He told them, not wanting for either of them to think that they would be getting abandoned. He meant to keep both of them safe even if they set to fighting an all out war over his head. So long as they were safe, even from each other, then Kara would be happy. The problem being that there was still some distance that they needed to cover to get back to where his family was located. He got to the edge of the roof they were currently on before he realized that there was a lot of space between them and the next rooftop. A lot more then he could jump, that was for sure.

He looked from side to side, then down, before he finally decided on their next course of action, something he was more then certain that the pair were going to just LOVE. That being shifting Yrre so that he was once more in front of him, holding him in one arm and Minerva in the other, "Hold on to me." He said before jumping, wings opening up so that he could glide down to the ground. The moment he touched down he was racing forward, hoping that nothing dangerous noticed his mad dash toward the next building.

The small group of five lead by Esmeralda weaved through the crowd, the tall womans eyes were fixed ahead and she sometimes glanced in a direction to see if she could spot her daughter. No luck there. She would have to think that her efforts to help the Dovaa at the front line would perhaps be enough to stop the Mara from coming in and over taking the city. Better not to think about that though, being negative wouldn’t fix the issues at hand. Esmeralda but her worries aside, Minerva was her and Ekundayo’s daughter, she had enough fight in her to stand on her own two feet.

----------------------------------------

Even as the other Dovaa hissed at her from behind Karayan, all Minerva did was narrow her eyes even more at him and stick out her tongue. “I never said that.” Minerva through up her hands in the air in exasperation. “You just want to get rid of me is all.” She wasn’t going to let some little kid talk down to her! Only the weak were so merciless as to leave someone else behind and look after their own hide. Or maybe it was because she was a half breed; her mother had warned her that not everyone would be so welcoming. Was this one of them?

“At least one of you is reasonable.” The Dovaa said with less bite to Karayan and then she turned her back, or as much of it as she could, towards Yrre and held onto the older Dovaa. This was dangerous territory, if anything they were going to attract the Mara towards them if they kept making so much noise. Well Minerva wouldn’t be the one to cause the Mara to find them and well, she wouldn’t speak to Yrre unless she really needed to. They weren’t friends, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend. She would deal with him for now.

"Of course I want to get rid of you. You'd be stupider than you look if you thought otherwise." As much as he wanted to keep arguing, Yrre wasn't blind as to what was going on. They were stuck.. And the drop down seemed almost too dangerous.. They were trapped, weren't they? Yet Karayan shifted him around again, holding in his arm again.

"What are you..?" For now the girl was left forgotten and focus shifted onto his friend. There was no hesitation when he was told to hold on, his hands gripped again onto his clothing, having much better leverage than when he was on his back.

They were on the ground again.. What? They were running... So far, there hadn't seemed to be any real threats, but with so many people scurrying about the chaos could be enough to swallow people whole. No wonder this annoying little girl got lost.

"We have to get back high again, Kara. I know the back roads, let me show you!"
