Appearance:
Zarike is currently tall for his young age, but with a stretched out appearance to him. In time, he will fill out and while he'll never tower over his peers Zarike will eventually reach respectable average. His eventual size will be judged more on the breadth of his shoulders and chest than the inches between his head and his toes. A distinction that is already beginning to develop on the young teen's frame.
His brown hair, middling blue eyes and tan skin are not uncommon and run true in his lineage. The darkness of his skin comes more from spending every waking moment he can outside no matter what the weather.
Zarike has a knack for being dirty. No matter how many baths that boy takes, he'll always show up to lessons disheveled or dirt smudged and as of yet, nothing has been able to cure him of this 'affliction'.
Personality:
Fearless: Zarike's fearless. Nothing intimidates this young boy. You can't bully or threaten him into doing what you want. Instead kindness is the best route to take. Be kind to him and he'll return the favor, be cruel and watch out. Zarike doesn't tolerate bullies no matter how big. He has a noble heart and will always stand up for the little guy, the underdog, even if he himself is no match for his opponent. He believes the world should be fair to everyone.
Honorable: Zarike will try to talk two parties out of a problem more often than not but if people don't get his point quick enough for his tastes he will resort to violence in defense of who he sees as the victim, uncaring of the odds. He tries to wait for his opponent to make the first 'move' but his definition of that can be hazy once he gets riled up. In the end, the scraps are short lived, whether he wins or loses, and he'll almost always forgive the other party once they catch their breath.
Curious/Interested in Others: Zarike has a thirst for knowledge, he loves to learn about almost any topic. He likes watching crafters at their work and helping if he's allowed. If not he'll ask questions for as long as his subject holds his attention. Which sometimes isn't long unfortunately. He tends to jump from subject to subject, unable to focus on just one at a time. More often than not in the end what he learns amounts to little more than 'trivia'.
Impatient:Zarike hates being kept waiting. Things should happen Now, not Later. He'll get frustrated and even angry fairly quick when something doesn't happen fast enough for him. Zarike will dive headlong into something recklessly rather than wait for a solid plan or more information. Sitting still and quiet is hard if he's not being entertained by something.
Sociable: He's not afraid to talk to anyone be they human, dragon, wher, or even the Weyrleader's and Lord Holder's themselves. Some might find it annoying or other's amusing, but he's very earnest and serious when doing so.
Naive He wants to trust others. He wants to believe that everyone's a good person and at times he gets burned by this blind faith. Still, Zarike holds onto that belief. He may become more jaded as he progresses into his teenage turns, but for now he is still convinced that everyone is inherently good.

History:
* 2988, Newborn Zarike was born to two riders. His parents were loosely weyrmated at the time though their relationship was very casual. He was nursed for a short period of time before being given up to the creche and a wetnurse as his mother returned to her duties as a rider.
* 2990-2999, 2-11 Zarike has an active childhood filled with the usual bumps, bruises and fights. He preforms well in his lessons, is very sociable and for the most part plays well with children his own age. He's protective of children younger than him, and shows confidence in his dealings with older children and adults. While he doesn't avoid trouble altogether and has been known to do some spectacularly dumb things, he has never acted out of malice and his efforts to keep his head down after every punishment has kept him clean from any serious consequences so far.
* 2999, 11 A visit from his mother (a woman he knew casually from rare visits when she had a spare moment and happened to think of her son at the same time) on the eve of his 12th nameday saw him gifted with a small firelizard egg. Ikelida had made an effort to visit him specifically on this day to 'welcome' him in a way to his first steps towards becoming a dragonrider. The egg was a gift, and in her mind a small dose of practice in caring for his future dragon.
Zarike is more thrilled by the idea of having a firelizard of his own than the fact that his mother had visited him. He was grateful though, even after it hatched and he found caring for a pet in addition to his own lessons and chores to be quite a task in and of itself. A firelizard wasn't just some sort of ornament that was there when you wanted it and gone when you were busy. The little green, named Terra, formed a close relationship with the young boy despite appearing very aloof and almost wild to anyone who might witness the pair together.
* 3000, 12 With his nameday at the end of the last turn, the beginning of the 10th pass, the death of the Weyrwoman and clutching of Iesath; Zarike has begun his life of candidacy. Days of harper lessons and free time have suddenly disappeared in a rigorous routine of chores, lessons with the candidate master, and further lessons with harpers to continue his basic education. Zarike is exceptionally excited and finding it hard to concentrate on any one thing at a time. How he will fare in his upcoming lessons as his first hatching draws nearer has yet to be seen.

- Appearance::
Terra is a darling little green of about average size, leaning towards small. She has a bright grassy hide with a brighter green underbelly and a series of bright green spots down her back with darker green rings around them. Her wings are a little short for her body and she prefers to flutter from place to place, or between, rather than fly long distances.
- Personality:
Terra is a complete liar. She'll act aloof, distant, or disinterested with everyone including Zarike himself until you look away. The moment you aren't paying attention to her is when you'll suddenly find yourself with a lapful of warm lizard. She loves to be pet and stroked but only at her choosing and in private situations. The exception is when she's frightened or startled by something. At that point she will stick to Zarike like a burr and be just as prickly towards everyone else.
If you're really quiet and calm while petting her, she will sometimes tuck her face against your neck or into the crook of your arm. At night she's often found curled up against Zarike's side, head burrowed into his blankets after lights out.
