[ Investigation ]
G’vian was arrested almost immediately. The man was found in the baths - apparently half-asleep - and denies everything. Under the orders of the Senior Investigator, he has been remanded in custody in the cells while his dragon is questioned. The dragon in question has been moping outside the cell complex, and looks distinctly sickly with distress.
The Weyr was quickly put on lock-down, with no-one allowed to enter or leave except on business approved by their Wingleader for several days. These strictures have now been relaxed slightly for riders, but it the Weyr is still on high alert and getting in or out is not easy. T’gall is under the guard of trusted riders in the infirmary, and is reported to be out of danger - though healers have no hope whatsoever of saving his sight.
Meanwhile, the Weyr is currently being run by the Council of Wingleaders, headed by the newly appointed First Wingleader S’kagi.
The Senior Investigator has put out a call for any information that might lead to the identity of the unsuccessful assassin - both from their own Investigators and from ordinary members of the Weyr.
[ How this works ]
Every week or few days during the event, we’re going to post a couple of suggested lines of inquiry and on-going events. You write us a quick summary of how your character is going to attempt to investigate and what they do, and we’ll tell you what information they get in return - which will be entirely different depending on them and their standing in the Weyr! Although keep in mind that more authority doesn’t necessarily mean better results: some witnesses may respond better to people on their level, or clam up when confronted with authority. For a familiar comparison, think of this as being like egg responses. Please also let us know if your character is letting the Senior Investigator know what they’ve discovered! So for example:
Course of action: L’ris is an ornery jerk, but she thinks G’vian is innocent. Pennath is a Gossip Monger, and so intends to snuggle with Bulwarth and find out what he thinks about what happened… although she doesn’t trust him as far as she can throw him (shaffing bronze riders!) she’s going to let him know if she finds out anything.
Result: Bulwarth is a bad-tempered dragon at the moment, and Pennath nearly gets bitten when she says the wrong thing. It’s a good thing she’s fast. Still, she gets out of Bulwarth that he was asleep when his rider was arrested, and that they both believe he is absolutely innocent.
This meta is projected to go on for about a month ooc (or two months IC), after which you guys will have a chance to put together what you think happened and present it to the senior investigator - who'll in turn decide what's to be done based on your evidence. The first set of clues and investigation leads are due to go up on saturday.

[ Lines of Enquiry ][ Set One ]Scent Whers - brought in shortly after the attack, what do the wherhandlers who attempted to track down the assailant have to say?
T'gall - has regained consciousness, and is taking some visitors. Presents to be deposited on his night-stand.
G'vian - is being held in the cells. Most riders will be able to gain access to them in some way, but getting time alone with him is entirely another matter. Bulwarth is another potential angle of attack here...
A death in the Weyr - a drudge named Merinde has been found dead in the lower storage caverns. The scene was extremely bloody, and it appears that she may well have been attacked by that stray wher that's been breaking into the Weyr...
Other? - What does your character think needs poking at? Briefly describe what they are trying to find out, and from whom.[ Set Two] Autopsy Report - Amarid has apparently finished looking at the drudge - a fairly cursory examination, by all accounts - and confirms that the attack was definitely by a wher. It’s entirely possible other details are being held back.
Drudge Disappearance - Michen, who was with Merinde at the feast, seems to have outright… disappeared. By all accounts, he’d not been in the Weyr long.
Wher Hunt - ???
Merinde’s sister - M’dre is *distraught*. Although she and her sister don’t seem to have been incredibly close, she is kicking up a huge fuss and refuses to believe that she was killed because of a wher.
Other? - What does your character think needs poking at? Briefly describe what they are trying to find out, and from whom.Character Name:

Character Name: Kialynka
Clue followed: Scent Whers
Course of action: Maybe a bit nosy about things, Kia isn't one to let others do all the work. She makes herself useful to the handlers to see what she might overhear and ask a few delicate questions of her own. Since she was there at the scene and all ya'know?

Character Name: L'ssa
Clue followed: A death in the Weyr
Course of action: Murder is afoot! L'ssa's first instinct is to look at the body itself, specifically the lacerations. Are they certainly caused by claws and teeth, or could there be something more sinister at play?
Character Name: Shylla
Clue followed: T'gall
Course of action: Shylla's number one priority is helping Venk and Hiraeth with keeping the skies clear, but she spends her spare time with T'gall to offer support to the weyrleader and his family. She certainly doesn't want to cause him pain by making him relive the attack, but if there's a moment where he is calm she would ask if he recognized anything about his assailant (specifically taking care not to use the word 'seen').
Character Name: Alcine
Clue followed: Scent Whers
Course of action: Alcine is doing her best to give the whole situation a wide berth, if for no other reason than to keep Leoth safe. However, she can't resist watching the wherhandlers work, and given the opportunity she would ask about their progress. Leoth is likely to going to try and puff herself up in the presence of whers, and any that get too close are going to get snapped at.

Kialynka mostly learns a lot of new curse words: the one wherhandler she finds who’s willing to talk (well, b***h) while she helps him clean out a sick wher’s den. Apparently whoever it was dropped an aniseed bomb, and with the crowd that gathered… one scent definitely led to the baths, but the perpetrator could equally have gone to the infirmary, the candidate barracks, or down into the lower caverns… in short, it’s a mess.
L’ssa manages to get close to the body, but she can’t say for certain that they were caused by a wher. Merinde’s body is pretty mauled, and it was difficult to even initially identify her. What else could’ve done this?
Shylla is certainly appreciated - and she may well notice the growing pile of presents by T’gall’s bedside. However, her enquiries come to very little: T’gall practically spits that he saw nothing and no-one, but it had to be G’vian. Who else would do this to him? When she’s about to leave, T’gall’s weyrmate takes her aside and asks her to keep her ears open for anything that might help nail that sharding bronzerider.
Alcine gets a lecture on the finer points of scent-tracking from a handler who’s very proud of their green… which is rapidly interrupted when said green gets a little too close to Leoth and the two have to be rapidly separated. She does learn that one of the scent-trails they followed lead straight to the bath house, and that it’s her bet that G’vian did it and was trying to wash the aniseed off of himself.

Character Name: Brishen
Clue followed: A death in the Weyr
Course of action: Hit up the kitchen for possible gossip. He’ll be helpful, dishes it is isn’t it? And polite with a slight bit of hyperactivity and lack of word to mouth filter and farnath knows they likely would like to b***h about the possible wher that keeps breaking into the store rooms.

Brishen is regarded with a little bit of suspicion as… doesn’t a weyrling have better things to be doing? but eventually the kitchens fall back into their normal routine. There’s a lot of gossip flying about ‘poor Merinde’, who seems to have been generally liked, though a few people are keeping their mouths very tightly shut. No-one wants to speak ill of the dead.
Apparently she leaves behind a couple of children, though her only other family is a greenriding sister named L’rin, from one of the fifth wings - no-one can remember which one. There’s a pretty strong current of opinion that Herlen should be strung up by the Senior Investigator for not doing his duty and putting that wher down… as well as an element of ‘who’s going to be next?’, because if the wher’s killed one person…
Eventually, he’s shooed away by On’ya, who is pretty certain he has better things to be doing. He can take this cake with him, but out.

Character Name: Jasiline
Clue followed: Scent Whers
Course of action: Whers Whers Whers. You didn't love the nasty brutes your whole life then just give them up in an instant. Sanuyeth may grouch about it but Jasiline still holds a little flame for her childhood loves. Where-else then would she go the moment B'tes turned his back than straight to the wher pens to see what the Hunts were turning up? Especially in the case of the feral wher.
Character Name: Z'fer
Clue followed: T'gall
Course of action: Z'fer had a lot of reasons to visit T'gall in the infirmary besides genuine concern. Any number of which he could have listed off to save face. In the end though it really was concern for his former Wingleader that brought the 2nd Wing rider back to his bedside. During his visit, Z'fer would try and ask if T'gall recalled anything that seemed suspicious either before or after the fact in the time between the incident at the Feast and now.

Jasiline finds the wher complex looking rather like someone poured boiling water onto an an anthill. The Huntsman is busy organising extra patrols - not only around the Weyr, but into some of the larger corridors. These are made up of only the very smallest and most gentle of whers… because no-one wants to have a wher accidentally kill a child or some other person. Most of them are too busy to talk to a stray weyrling, but one wherhandler who’s minding some of her hunts newer wherlings (or rather, keeping them out of the way), lets her know that they’ll be turning out to hunt down the feral wher pronto. Herlen was an idiot for letting that blue go, and if it’s a mankiller… she clams up rapidly and suddenly, remembering that she’s talking right in front of a group of very young wherhandlers.
Z’fer is thanked by T’gall for… well, not to put too fine a point on it, carrying him to the infirmary. He’s glad to be surrounded by friends. He seems to be doing fairly well, though his ruined eyes are carefully covered by a white bandage, and anyone who had seen the injury can predict he likely won’t regain his sight. He shakes his head, though. The only thing he can remember is G’vian - it had to have been him, he’s the only one who hates him that much, just couldn’t handle it all being taken from him. It’s probably why he decided to take it from T’gall.
Z’fer only gets a short time with T’gall: his weyrmate Chessa is ferocious in ensuring that no-one gets more time then he can take.

Character Name: Shylla/Evmeth
Clue followed: G'vian/Bulwarth
Course of action: Hey, are you okay? Evmeth knows that everyone thinks Bulwarth's rider did something terrible, but the bronze is in such terrible distress while they sort everything out, and that makes her sad! She offers her apologies for the straits the two of them seem to be in, and asks if maybe there's a different explanation?
Character Name: L'ssa
Clue followed: Scent Whers
Course of action: Shards and shells, that drudge was a mess. L'ssa's next stop is the wher complex to share what she saw of the body, get some professional opinions, and see what they've been sniffing out down there.
Also, have these wherhandlers been working out? L'ssa thinks they've been working out, and given the chance is going to reward someone's hard effort with a playful bicep squeeze.
Character Name: Alcine
Clue followed: Other? - The Baths!
Course of action: Alcine relished listening to the wherhandler, right up until Leoth decided his wher was in her space. Nevertheless, with the information gathered, she starts in the lower caverns and walks the fastest route she knows to the baths, to try and search for something of importance in the proposed attacker's footsteps. Alcine tries to impart the basics of what she learned of tracking to Leoth, but the green is having none of it, instead choosing to snap at glows as they walk by.

Evmeth is met with… well, Bulwarth isn’t in good shape. Though some of G’vian’s friends are keeping an eye on him, he’s really suffering without his rider. He is most insistent that his rider is innocent, and trust him, Bulwarth would know - and denounce him. They both believe in justice, but this is not justice! Is his rider to be dragged out and lynched? There is nothing to point to him as the culprit, nothing but hearsay and circumstantial evidence! No, his rider is being framed. Bulwarth does not know by who, though, and he is so tired…
L’ssa finds a wherhandler who’ll listen to her… and maybe flirt, just a little. If L’ssa’s interested, they are! They get a little grim on hearing her description of the body, however. Sure, a wher could’ve done that - but they would have assumed that a wher would’ve taken the body (or most of it) with them. Creature’s’ve gotta eat, just like everyone else. It’s too bad Herlen didn’t put it down, it really is - giving everyone else a bad name. She hears he’s real cut up about it.
Alcine, presumably moving a little slower then the mad dash the wherhandlers were in, is just in the right place to see the light of one of the glows Leoth has snapped at sparkle off of the blade of something. On further investigation, it’s a tiny knife, not much longer then her little finger… and covered in blood.

Character Name: Brishen
Clue followed: T'gall, Chessa
Course of action: Brishen, cake in hand heads up to see T'gall. Maybe he would like some cake to? They could share it. But before talking to T'gall, he going to talk to Chessa for a bit, maybe she knows something? He doesn't want to stress T'gall. It would make the cake taste unpleasant and he probably been telling everyone else all about what happened. Maybe Chessa has a different view.

Character Name: Jasiline
Clue followed: A death in the Weyr
Course of action: Jasiline was curious now. A handler had just let an unbonded wher run wild in the weyr? What kind of shaffed up dimglow was he? It was no surprise the wher had killed someone. Jasiline followed after the wher hunts to see what damage the creature had caused for herself.
Character Name: Z'fer
Clue followed: G'vian
Course of action: Z'fer didn't think he'd be able to see the former First Wingleader without loosing his temper, but he wanted to see the b*****d that had done such a horrible thing and hear what excuses he'd concocted to get himself out of trouble. In Z'fer's opinion, he should be strung out for Thread, or if his dragon managed to protect him from a quick death, than left out to die slowly.

Character Name: L'ssa
Clue followed: Herlen
Course of action: Aww yes. Or maybe not...shaff, L'ssa ruined the mood when she started talking about entrails. She gives a nod to the wherhandler (they know where her weyr is, certainly, it's the big one that smells like justice) and goes in search of Herlen. What she's looking for is details on the stray, and in a moment of confidence, she asks if he thinks that, given the body was left behind, the wher in question was given orders and not acting on instinct.
Not that any wherhandlers she knew would want to kill a drudge, but things still reeked of murder to her.
Character Name: Alcine
Clue followed: Knife?!
Course of action: Is that--oh.
Alcine is as nonchalant as she can be about picking up the blade and wrapping it in a torn piece of her tunic, but her mind is already racing. She needs to get to the Senior Investigator with this, and fast. On a whim, she shows Leoth the path to the head office with an undertone of importance, expecting the green to clear a pretty wide path with her screeching. However, Alcine doesn't expect the zeal to which Leoth takes to her job, and spends most of the way sprinting to keep up and make sure that the little green doesn't actually bowl someone over, squawking the entire way like a siren.
She reaches the office red-faced and gasping for air, breathlessly offering the knife to Cedeny. When she gets the chance to breathe, she explains where she found it and that she thinks it might be the assault weapon.
Character Name: Shylla
Clue followed: A death in the Weyr
Course of action: Even in the chaos surrounding the weyrleader, Shylla takes the time to mourn the loss of one of High Reaches' own. She reaches out to family and friends of the woman, specifically the man who had been her companion at the last hatching feast. Her goal is primarily to provide comfort, but as they start talking Shylla is reminded of an important detail...hadn't Merinde been rather upset at the Feast? What was that about?

Brishen is not allowed in to see T’gall, who is resting, but he does get a brief chat with Chessa, who is a little charmed by his present. The journeyman harper does let one little nugget drop - T’gall apparently remembers seeing some candidates before he was attacked. She does sit down for a few minutes with some klah and the cake, though… and she looks like she needs it.
Jasiline finds herself following a hunt of whers… on a patrol around the Weyr. It’s less exciting then it sounds. The weyrling does get some good exercise out of it, though.
Z’fer gets an almost silent and sullen G’vian. He doesn’t have to talk… so why should he? Certainly, he doesn’t seem to feel like being stared at by random gawkers. Like his dragon, G’vian looks to be in bad shape, and certainly being in one of the cells where he’s locked up so many criminals doesn’t help. The old man is just lying there and staring at the ceiling.
L’ssa finds Herlen, after some searching, in the wherhandler’s complex. The big man was suspended several sevendays ago, and seems to have spent the time drinking, judging by the empty bottles littered around his room. His Herlesk is curled up on the bed, and the green raises her head and growls as Shylla enters, only to be soothed by her handler. It turns out Herlen is not the smartest of men, but he seems honest enough - and incredibly cut up that the poor baby hurt anyone, he’s only a baby, he couldn’t do that! Not kill a person!
Alcine gets a scolding for moving evidence and disturbing the scene… and then a pat on the shoulder for finding it. Cedeny has her take the Senior Investigator to where she found it, and sets up a perimeter around it. There is a quiet sense of frustration around the woman that the wherhandlers could possibly have missed it.
Unfortunately, that’s not what Shylla does. No-one knows where the drudge she was with at the feast has gone - or has seen him in… man, a while now. She can’t find him anywhere, and he doesn’t seem to have turned up for work.
