Backdated to early June.. ish.

"Bet your grateful this building's got an elevator, yeah?" he said with the usual, playful smirk as he started to lead her down the hall to his door, his mind sort of reeling back to how exactly he found himself in this situation. Not that he had to think too long or too hard about it; Dani was being Dani, and he was, as he once heard on TV, knuckling under for the benefit of all parties involved. No, he wasn't being a pushover, but he did at least understand not wanting to go stir crazy. So, in his mind, offering to take her to his place was a fair compromise to getting into powered shenanigans for a (somewhat) recently severely injured person.

It really wasn't a very long trip to his door -- just long enough, in fact, for him to replay the discussion that led them here a couple of times -- and once they were there he unlocked the door and let her in, then ushered her almost immediately to the living room so she could have a seat. "So, yeah..." he said, looking around as though it were his first time there, too. Really, the space was well kept (courtesy of his own obsession and his mother's insistence on hiring a cleaner to make sure things were always neat and tidy) but he'd never felt quite...at home. In fact, the only rooms he ever bothered using were his own and his workroom; he hardly spent any time at all in any of the common areas in the apartment.

"Uh, I can give you a tour if you want but there isn't much to see," he went on before pointing in a few directions and spouting off the list of specific rooms. "Not exactly teeming with adventure, sure, but at least you're out of your apartment." He offered her a sheepish grin then, before jabbing a thumb toward the kitchen.

"Drink?"

"Elevators and motorcycles. Not sure what I'd do without them right now," she shot back, voice caught somewhere between a tease and a sigh. The goal of the day, so far as her companion was concerned anyways, was very much obvious to her. Keep her from running around on a patrol by dangling an outing of another variety in her face. Now, mind, she wasn't against finally seeing where Dom lived. Rather, she was rather enthusiastic about that part. But when she'd complained about wanting to get out of her apartment, this hadn't been the context she'd been insisting on.

Mixed emotions was the dominant emotion of the hour.

Danika had dutifully peered around every which way she could upon arriving at the building with Dom, meandering a bit as she'd followed him--she didn't wander far, her leg was protesting too much still if she "overexerted" too much. Something she resented her doctor telling her. Repeatedly. It was a leg. She didn't need her muscles failing her because she sat around on her a** all day till everything was healed. Which was part of why she rolled her eyes so when Dom ushered her to the couch once they were inside his place... and why she wasn't completely against it, with the slight throb forming.

But her eyes were wide, taking in the space with renewed curiosity. "....This is a lot cleaner than I thought it'd be," she mused aloud, not even stopping to consider how that could be taken. She'd been to a few guys' places. They weren't clean. At all. It wasn't a knock against Dom personally. Well. Least not intentionally. "It's bigger than mine." It was near instinctive to wander towards a window, catch a view. Really, the place was a lot nicer than hers. "Hell do you pay on rent for a place like this?" She was... pretty sure he didn't have a job, but could also say it'd been a little while before Danika herself was handling her bills without her mom's assistance when she'd first moved out.

She still wasn't sitting though, despite the slight throb in her leg, instead turning her attention to the rest of the apartment as he'd spout off stuff, flashing him a wide grin at his offer. "Drink'd be great." There might have been a brief moment when she'd been distracted by trying to pin-point where the rooms workroom and bedroom connected to, specifically. A light snort puffed a few of the loose bangs around her face. "It could be an adventure... if you don't mind me exploring~?" Her smile was far, far too sweet.

He tried his best to keep his eyes on her, even an arm around her if she even looked remotely unstable on her feet, on the way up to make sure she didn't go and get herself hurt. Again. But the woman insisted on walking about on her own, wandering and looking and observing as he figured she would do considering it was her first time at his place. Odd, now that he thought about it, that this was her first time over while he'd been over to her place so many times it likely wasn't an exaggeration to say that he could walk through the place blindfolded and not bump into anything.

Seeing her relieved, though, and maybe at least a little bit happier now that she was out and about, helped to keep a contented sort of smile on his face. Even as they entered his apartment her wide eyes and obvious curiosity about the space as he led her to the couch -- or tried to, since she refused to take a seat -- he couldn't really help but smile at the sight. Especially considering it was such a stark comparison to the look on her face while she'd been hospitalized, and then essentially being put under house arrest for however much time she needed to recover. The worry in his eyes ebbed slightly, replaced by amusement at her cleanliness jab. "Hey," he said, crossing his arms in mock defense, though he was still smiling. "Only 'messy' room in here is my workroom, and...yeah it is."

Dom moved toward her and shoved his hands into his pockets as he did, then shrugged as he took a spot just behind her and looked out the same window. The view impressed him the first time; now, not so much. "I don't, actually. My mom said my dad bought it for client use or personal use if he ever came here on business trips. Apparently it's never actually been used before, though, so it's basically mine for however long I need it." Dom squinted his eyes a bit, making a face at the topic of conversation -- talking about his father left a bitter taste in his mouth -- and causing his smile to falter a bit. That wide grin of hers, though, not to mention that ridiculously sweet smile, got a snort out of him. And put the smirk back on his face.

"Explore away while I get that drink. Sunny D sound okay?"

The physical contact was at least a secondary bonus to being out and about. As someone who equated contact as a requirement to even believing she could relate to another being, having him close by was just more excuses to lean into him now and then--or bump him with an elbow, or tease him from close range. It didn't do anything to sway her need to move though. Points given where due, he kept up.

Keeping the weight on her good leg, she sent him a quick, curious look. Workroom... hm. "The one where you blew something up?" She was referring to months ago, when he'd injured his hands prior to that first meeting with Jarosite. A more recent memory of him hurting his hands came to mind however, but it was one that she shook off in favor of a teasing grin. "Should I be worried if I poke my nose in there?"

His response about the apartment was... surprising. Danika didn't do a thing to hide her envy that he wasn't actually paying for this place. Least it didn't mean he was doing illegal stuff for money, with a lack of job and all. The answer wasn't any less... intriguing, though. "Client use? The ******** does he do?" Few jobs popped into her head that would connect to clients and business trips that didn't have someone holed up in a hotel. Eyes skimming his expression, she wasn't sure to make of the narrowed eyes, even as she let more questions pop out of her mouth, "So I take it your family's not from around here..?" It was obvious Dominic wasn't a fan of sharing family information. She'd seen enough trip-ups in his expressions around the subjects to gather that much. To what extent though, she had no clue. He'd yet to shut down the topics on her though. Far as she was concerned, that gave her a green light to keep poking at the subject here and there.

For a moment, she felt... almost awkward. The first time she'd been to his place, still so many questions about his life... Now and then, a nagging voice would slip into her head. Ashur and Themiscyra knew more about one another than Dominic and Danika. Or was it that he just knew more about her?

"Sunny D's great!" Her smile was bright as the sun itself as she pushed away the thoughts for now, slipping on towards where he'd indicated the two rooms of interest. If she couldn't get information from him, why not pry it from his surroundings~? Her attention immediately shifted to peeking around rooms, trying to locate the workroom first. "You realize if I somehow get hurt, my mom will be after your hide, right?"

"One and the same," he said, both worried and impressed that she'd remember that impromptu lie of his. He hoped in passing that she wouldn't start looking for signs of an explosion; cat out of the bag situation there, and he really didn't feel like getting into it with her right then. Especially not while she was in her current condition; he didn't want to give her any reason to leave him.. uh, his supervision. If he knew her at all there was a good chance she'd go on patrol to take her anger out on some youma, and probably manage to make things worse for herself in the process. "And no, you shouldn't. I've been trying to be more careful, so things are unplugged and stuff. No worries, I promise."

It did bother him a bit the more she asked about his family, and it was likely more obvious on his face that he wanted it to be. But then he'd always had trouble when it came to details about his father, and he'd never really been the type to talk about his family. came a somewhat snappy answer, which was quickly followed by an audible sigh as he ran a hand through his hair. "I mean, uh, I've just never been curious enough to ask." There was another sigh, and because he didn't want to risk another reply like the last one nodded at her next question, then went and got that Sunny D before he followed after her down the hall.

"I re-iterate," he said, a hand going around her shoulder to present the drink as well as start to steer her in the right direction. His other hand rested on her other shoulder, and he started to turn her around. "It's perfectly safe. No exploding bobbles. No tools left to burn another hole into my desk. No loose nails. Nothing, I swear. I even swept a lot of the junk on the ground so it kinda makes a walkway to the table." Dom had, in the span of time he was out of her line of sight, managed to pull a small, still apologetic smile on his face.

"And are you seriously threatening me with your mom?" he asked, playing disbelief. "Not that she doesn't scare me when, y'know, she's got a gun in her hand, but still."

"You better be. I don't need you losing a finger or worse over something like that." Explosions could get pretty bad, even with home stuff, right? Depended on what sort of tinkering he was doing, what sort of materials and energy he was messing with. He'd been upset that she'd gotten injured by a Negaverse Captain. She'd be damn upset and quite a freaking bit frustrated if he got injured by a freaking home project.

The snap... surprised her. Her brows rose, blinking a few times as she absorbed all that. He swore. He snapped. At her. And he gave a lame followup. "Uh...huh," was all she gave as an acknowledgement, noting the fact he didn't even give a verbal answer to her second question. Not curious enough to ask? About what his dad did for a living? She found that hard to believe, or at least wasn't foolish enough to think there wasn't far more to the story. His reactions had her... curious. But a red light had flashed, and for now Danika left it.

That he came up behind her with a hand on one shoulder with a drink--that she happily took--and another hand on her other shoulder, she became all the more willing to ignore the previous subject in favor of a happy hum as she took a few sips of the bright drink. Never mind try to keep from choking on the drink as she laughed to his safety measures. She'd been in the middle of trying to swallow some when he came back about her mother comment, though, and the results had Danika stopping dead in her tracks as she pressed her free hand to her mouth in an attempt to keep her lips from losing any of the Sunny D. Swallowing became very difficult between laughs before she could finally pull her hand away and laugh outright--if a bit breathless. "Dom! Horrible timing! Horrible! ******** hell..." She was laughing though, looking over her shoulder at him--she was wearing flats that day, making it a rare moment when he was in fact a little taller than her--and caught her tongue between her teeth. "Keep in mind she's where I get my rough tendencies. Mom taught her girl how to fend for herself. Mom also knows how to hide bodies. I'm required to use her as a threat--she's epic like that."

But he'd been leading her towards the workroom, a door she eagerly opened and began to enter with overly curious eyes. "But if it helps, I think she likes you. Least you've been around enough that I think she does. She's probably grateful there's someone else who can put up with me." The words were given without filter as she began to peek around, trying to make sense of the room around her. See what she could see of Dominic there.

The fact that the warning was coming from a girl who got herself beat into pretty bad shape was a bit ironic, but Dominic simply smiled and nodded. She was right anyway, and considering how she flipped out when she saw his hands injured (still whole, mind) he couldn't imagine what her reaction might be if he did manage to lose a finger or a hand or something. "I know what I'm doing, relax. I do research the latest and greatest about safety with this kind of thing. I just happened to get distracted that one time." He was touched by her concern, though, and the grin on his face certainly showed it.

Thankfully their conversation pressed on to more interesting things than his family. He'd managed, perhaps by some miracle, to get her to drop the topic about his family. Or maybe she just decided to drop it because of how he reacted? He was grateful either way, and comfortably kept his hands on her shoulders while biting back a bit of his own laughter as he watched her struggled to swallow some of her drink. The young man offered no more than a shrug and a bit of a laugh when she finally managed to get it down, blinking a bit at that signature smile of hers that she soon threw up -- no heels, he finally noticed -- and over her shoulder at him. "That so?" he asked, brows knit together and a playful look in his eyes.

Before he could really say much more she'd opened the door to his workroom and he watched her from the door, leaning quietly against the door frame with his arms across his chest. "That's...good to know?" He followed her gaze as she went around the room, a little curious as to what was going through her mind. His workroom was, at first glance, disorganized. Dom knew where everything was, of course, but to a visitor it probably looked horribly cluttered. That, in his eyes, made it the room to comb through if one wanted to get to know him. But it required more than a few minutes that this little tour would give her. "But all the same, lemme know if I ever get on her bad side. I get the feeling I'd need the head's up if she's ever on my a** about anything."

And no, he really wasn't kidding.

Danika merely grinned to where Dominic stood against the door, casting him a quick wink. Her mom was one of her favorite--playful--threats against people, though the reality of a situation where Detective Teresi would be required was not something she wanted to dwell on. It wasn't like both women didn't have enough tension between them right now, given Danika's state and her mother's apparent inability to accept her daughter's story.

There were multiple reasons her life as a knight was kept... on the down-low.

Instead, she focused on the room around her, taking careful steps this way and that as she peered at trinkets, bobbles, pieces, and work in progresses. Or at least what she could only assume were such things. Oh it was horribly cluttered in her eyes, but not in a horrible way. Reminded her of her own workroom, and that in and of itself gave her a rather strong home impression. She didn't start trying to touch things though till she managed to make her way to the work bench, taking a seat and trying to not jostle her leg too much in the process before she began to literally poke around the contents of the table. "What're you workin' on?" she asked in a nearly sing-song tone, smiling brightly up at him from her seat. Very much trying to ignore the darker thoughts that had brewed in her head previously, she had zero qualms in utilizing her current companion to help her focus on other subjects. Far more interesting, less depressing subjects, preferably.

Of course, she couldn't help but peer a little through the open doorway, curious about what she'd find if she was able to snoop in his room next. The workroom made her feel... comfortable, something that intrigued her. Perhaps not a perfect view into the owner's mind, it was a small relief to find she wasn't feeling out of place there. Confused, sure, but curious.

He smiled back at that wink before going silent and letting her take a minute to explore, glad that her attention had been taken enough by his apartment that she wasn't too focused on going out anymore. Or at least he hoped.

Dom watched her move about the room, surprised that she'd kept her hands to herself until she finally took a seat at his workbench. Maybe it was just that it was his space? Or an unfamiliar space? He'd half-expected her to be all over everything, even with her injuries and whatnot, so it was almost strange.. not that he minded. At her question he walked over, dodging a few doodads and bobbles that were on the floor in the process, and furrowed his brow at the things she was poking at. "Ah, that's a piece for the alarm clock I've been trying to fix for the past week. That's a little robot I'm working on..." and he went down the list, ending on a sort of low note by admitting that things had been...slow-going as of late. But he kept a cheerful tone and added, "It's mostly 'cause someone had to go and get herself hospitalized, so I've kinda pulled my focus on helping her out and stuff." He grinned only briefly, then helped her up and ushered her out of the room when a question about the little box on his desk (that he'd purposely not mentioned) came up.

"And right down here is my room," he said as they approached the door. He didn't have any intention of letting her in; just a peek would probably be okay, it was as generic as most rooms went anyway. His plan was to let her peek, then get her back out to the living room for a horror movie marathon, courtesy of Netflix and Pizza Hut. A plan shot to hell when someone started banging on his door.

"Dominic!" he heard in a familiar voice, and one that literally stopped him in his tracks for a second. His mind suddenly flooded with all the frustrations he'd been racking up courtesy of his father, of the calls and the emails and the unwelcome surprise visit. He glowered, then without even really thinking, he rushed her into his bedroom and shut the door. "Junior!" he heard as the banging continued.

She listened intently to each quick introduction to his projects, fascinated by it all. And laughing outright to hear he was working on a robot. "Figure out how to make it fire lasers?" she'd teased, though her teasing diminished by the time he'd admitted he hadn't been doing as much lately. Was it due to-- ...ah. Danika winced internally, though outwardly only lifted her brows. "You could have brought them with you, y'know. Probably could have kept me entertained in bed pretty long with toys." She let the words fall as they may, though she couldn't stop herself from smirking on that last line. Deflection, but it was hard to not feel bad realizing she was keeping him from his own hobbies and interests. It wasn't that she was against Dom being around just... ah ******** let the subject drop as she was moved from one room to the next, already trying to peek at his room. All in favor of digging around to see what she could find in there, of course. The sudden bang on the door made her blink, but wasn't a reason for her to freak out. So the guy had visitors, so what? That someone was shouting for her host made her perk up, glancing at the young man at the sound of a male voice. "Aren't you going to--" Dominic's expression made her cut her question short when she got a look at him, brow furrowing just in time for her to suddenly find herself rushed into the room they were about to enter anyways. Her ears caught the--name? title?--the guy shouted and Danika stared at Dominic. "Who is that? And what the ******** are you doing?"

She'd usually be making jokes about him rushing her into his room like that, or at least taking the time to snoop around, but none of the circumstances allotted for such a thing. "Are you alright?"

A grin had played on his face at the toys comment -- how many places they could go with just that line of conversation -- but it'd been wiped off by the sudden banging on his front door. Without even thinking he'd pushed her into his room, and now there they were. Stuck with him facing the reality that this probably wasn't the best time for Dani to meet his father, not to mention now that they were locked in how many questions might have been bubbling up in her brain. He couldn't tell for sure; so far only three had come up -- who, what, and then a question of concern. Sweet.. or, sort of.

Dominic tried to weigh his options, but between outright lying to her face or completely ignoring her and just pretending to not hear that ruckus that was still being made at his front door there really weren't any other...sensible ones. So he let her questions hang for a bit longer, hoping something would come to him. Nothing did, and he frowned. "That," he finally started slowly, "is no one important. Y'know, just some guy giving me a hard time."

Well, it wasn't a lie per se, but it did buy him a little time.

"Also I--"

"Dominic!"

"--figured you'd want--"

"Dominic, open this damn door!"

"--a better look at--"

"Dominic Josiah--!"

And he closed his eyes, summoned his weapon and powered up.

Or in other words, he panicked.

"--Styles, Jr.!"

Again without thinking or explaining exactly why he was doing what he was doing, Ashur reached out and took her hands. "Sorry, but I'll explain later, okay? I just.. I need to get outta here." The Page then gave her hand a squeeze and closed his eyes, not even sure if this would work but hoped to whatever gods that it would, then whispered a now-familiar phrase. "I pledge my life and loyalty to Uranus and to Ashur. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine."

And then the pounding stopped.
