He was hungry.
The little yellow house just on the inside of the town on Deus Ex Machina provided Gale with a great many things: shelter (except when it was being attacked by giant Insanity-ridden dragons), a place to sleep, somewhere he could call his own, a kitchen, a bed, an extra room for visitors, and a nice place away from the dormitory hallways.
What it didn't have was an excess of food. Which was rapidly becoming a problem, because Gale's minuscule kitchen was looking both extremely pathetic and very empty. He supposed he could find a portal to go grocery shopping or something (heaven knew he had enough hours stored up to be gone a whole week, considering he rarely left the island for anything other than missions), but that would have required more effort than he wanted to expend at the current moment.
He was feeling particularly lazy, but he simultaneously wanted to be doing something, which was an annoying conundrum. Gale sat cross-legged on the patch of grass just outside the dormitory building, idly twisting Jinhai's ring on his finger and contemplating what exactly he either a) wanted to do, and b) should actually be doing. He thought briefly about going to pester Bix and Ceres, banished the thought, and instead sat exactly where he was, doing absolutely nothing productive whatsoever.

Cami was feeling, for lack of a better word in the English language, grumbly. All she wanted to do was jump into a pool full of cool water. Unfortunately, despite being a Sun hunter, she was unable to use the facilities of a full Hunter without one to pave the way for her. Otto seemed disinclined to go swimming and told her that there was always the beach...if she was feeling desperate. Or even a shower which would basically perform the same function. Damn his practicality! Instead Cami had settled for going into the kitchen, filling up a cup, and walking out in front of the dorms to pour it over her head while bent over. Shaking a bit like a dog, not having noticed Gale, he might have been a bit sprayed before she stood up and jumped a bit. "OH! Oh s**t I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there!"

Something wet hit the back of his neck, and Gale jumped, startled. He reached up, rubbing his hand over his throat, and was relieved to see it was just, in fact, water; and that it had come from a vaguely familiar young woman with vibrantly colored hair standing just a short distance away, a water bottle in her hand. Gale squinted at her, trying to figure out where he'd seen her before, but maybe it had just been around the island. She seemed pleasant enough as it was, and clearly hadn't tried to douse him on purpose, which was a good sign.
"It's all right," said Gale, waving a hand. He ran his fingers through his overlong hair (he really needed a hair tie or something; he'd forgotten to bring one, and his hair fell straight past his shoulders now, thick and colorful, though the latter had begun to fade somewhat). "You only got a few drops on me, and it's warm out, so it doesn't bother me."
He gave her a small, slight smile.
"You're new here, aren't you?" Gale asked, twisting around so that he was facing her. "I think I've seen you around a few times before; I'm Gale Gentry; I live over there in the town."

Deciding that it couldn't be a bad idea to flop down in the sun to let it dry (despite the fact she'd been baking not long ago) Cami flopped down next to Gale with a wide smile. "Let me know if you want a glass of water for your own head and I'll be glad to fetch for you if you let me pour it." Vaguely she made a mental note into looking into getting squirt guns, the big kind, to keep around the island in various places. A water gun fight would be too fun with the right people! "But yes, I'm fairly new. Been out of the pod since the end of March but haven't had too much time to socialize. Cami Ryland." Holding out her water-damp hand to shake she didn't comment about her own living situation but Gale's explanation went towards why she hadn't seen him around at all. "Sun division." Looking back towards the town she wondered why anyone would choose to live out there but then, she knew of people who had chosen to live in the basement of all places. The town couldn't possibly be worse. "What's it like, living out in the town?" She was quite curious. America and several others had been asking for help cleaning up the major living areas that had been destroyed by something no one had bothered to explain to Cami about yet. Mimsy had a home in town. What was the allure?

She sat next to him, and Gale gave her a quick look, almost searching; but then it settled into something casual, Gale pulling his knees up to his chest so that he could wrap his arms around them. Inside of his head, Jinhai gave a low murmur, the dragon coiling through his thoughts.
"I'll keep that in mind," he said, somewhat amused, and then he reached out and took her hand (which was slightly damp, but thankfully only from the water), giving it a short, but firm shake. "It's nice to meet you, Cami. I'm sorry I haven't introduced myself sooner, I usually try and meet all the new recruits, but I've been rather busy lately."
He blinked a little at her question, and then looked out in the direction at where his house was, though he couldn't see it from here. After a moment, Gale said, "It's a little stressful sometimes, y'know? It can be dangerous - my house has been blown to bits at least twice, which is frustrating when I have to put everything back together and then Bix just comes along and tries to help by making more messes."
Gale shook his head in exasperation. "Silly git. But, you know, it's also just...nice to have something of my own. I could have lived in the dorms if I had wanted to, after I was promoted, but I just wanted something of my own to take care of, something entirely mine."
He smiled a little, turning his head towards Cami.
"What about you? Are you doing okay, living in the dorms? Don't worry, all the rooms are small at first, but later on you'll be able to move into one that's less closet-sized uni dorm, more hotel room."nesshime omg sorry for late tag I never got this notice D8
