Noemi bounced in her spot on the training fields. She had a couple of spars, two visits to the haunted house that ended in her porting out quickly and little knowledge of how to actually HIT things in a spar. She didn't want to keep repeating the experience of being useless in a battle.
And it seemed almost easier to ask her cousin to show her how and what to do.
"A..Are you sure this is okay Stormy? I'm sorry to have bothered you in your duties!" Noemi looked at her cousin, summoning her weapon and holding it out.

"It's fine!" Stormy assured her as she summoned her own weapon. "This is kinda part of my duties anyway, hunter to trainee and all." The request hadn't been surprising; eventually she would have asked Noemi for a spar anyway, just to see how she handled her weapon. It was a good start that her cousin had brought it up first--made it so that Stormy could check it off her list of "Things to Bother Fellow Mists About" now that she was aware there were some new people around.
"So, what do you wanna work on first? Offense or defense? You'll need to be well rounded in this division, but I know you mentioned you've been practicing some already."

"I feel much better knowing that you are around." Noemi nodded, "I met miss Molly and she was very kind, but I haven't met any other full mist hunters yet!" She set up her trident.
"I...I'm actually needing help with the offensive? I...I was okay defender during the mission...for Milo? I seem to be okay...not getting hit as much?" Maybe it was cause she was smaller..."But I am not good at using my weapon. It's like pitchfork for farm but...I don't really like sticking it in people." She tensed a little.
"Do you want to go first?"

She smiled a little sheepishly; a year and a half later and she still couldn't take compliments correctly. "That's probably because they're always on missions," she told Noemi. "Mists are really adaptable, so they usually get to fill in the spots in groups in others' stead; or they get solo operations since they're supposed ot handle all of the work." But talking about that might make her nervous, so Stormy moved on quickly.
"Let's work on your attacks first, then!" She braced for impact against the greatsword. "Try me out. Don't worry about me getting hurt or anything: I've got pretty good defenses myself, and our shields'll stop any major harm!"

"You'll have a lot of us relying on you?" Noemi asked, "Because you are one of few full hunters? And there is so many new ones of us?" At least Noemi assumed there was a lot of new hunters now. She hadn't met any new mist like herself.
But that didn't mean they weren't out there!
"Attacks...Okay." She clutched the weapon, because it was intimidating to be facing a full hunter, with an impressive weapon like Stormy. "I will do my best." She started her own mental chant. If she believed, then she could do it. She thrust out with Mel, closing her eyes.
Mel cooed.
Noemi opened her eyes in embarrassment as her weapon slid far...far away from Stormy.

"Ah . . . Sorta, yeah." She tried not to think about that weighty responsibility, as much as she wanted to rise to the occassion. Stormy concentrated on the here and now instead.
Which involved Noemi trying to hit her with her eyes closed. She relaxed her stance more, figuring that the less intimidating she appeared, the easier it would be to ease her cousin into this.

"Noemi, you, uh . . . Good first try!" she cheered anyway. "But you gotta see where your weapon is going even after you hit something. You gotta getcha head in the game~"

"O...Oh right." She nodded, "Go...Gotta keep the eyes open. Eye on the prize." Like her papi would say. "I got the eye...of the tiger."
She tried again at the whole thrusting, though this time she actually was looking while she aimed.
The end result was that she actually barely grazed Stormy, whose defense was tough but..."I did it!" Noemi nodded, "I just need to move closer. R...Right?"

This time she at least made contact, though even with a weaker attempt behind her defense Noemi hadn't broken through. Still, it was progress, and she gave Noemi a smile and a nod that encouraged her to keep at it.

It might have been a problem that she brought up song lyrics, though . . . Stormy raised her weapon and gestured for her to try again, bouncing lightly on her heels.

Stormy's singing would've been well enough.
If the girl hadn't brought weapon down like a judge with a hammer. And Noemi had just been doomed to continue her nervous hitting. She didn't think Stormy felt it, but she could tell her cousin had serious skills going on.
She admired and feared it.
She moved in again, barely even getting close enough to break the defense, much less scratch at Thane's fear shield around the other mist.
Is this what a year and half did to hunters? to kids like herself and Stormy. She wanted to be strong, but...

The dink of Noemi's trident made her realize she was being a little too hard to breach. "I think you're starting to get the hang of it!" she said as she lowered her guard, looking less like she was in battle and more like they were casually talking. And sometimes hitting.

Noemi swung the trident, hitting past Stormy's defense, even it was weaker and grinned.
"I did it again! I did it!" She looked up at Stormy, "Can I...Can I try defending now?"

"Alright!" Stormy broke into a wide grin as she felt the trident break past and n** her shield. "If you want to, sure. I'll pull a few hits then see how you take my charge?"
She paused.
"Er, you know, those special things every weapon can do if you get them enough Fear," she explained hastily, unsure if Noemi had been exposed to that part yet.

Noemi blinked.
"I've never done a charge?" She looked at her weapon, that assured her if she wanted, they could. "M...Maybe I'll do it after seeing yours?" She nodded. The best way for her to learn after all was seeing Stormy do it.
"O..Okay." She mimicked Stormy's defensive pose as best as she could. "Hit me."

"Let's ease you into it first." Stormy waited patiently until it looked like Noemi's defense had been set. Then, adjusting the grip on her greatsword to switch from defense to offense, she moved forward and swung. It was meant to be less forceful than usual, but her cousin had looked so stable--and though she did break through, Stormy was beaming.
"Good! The key's in having a solid stance. You've seen mine, but, heh, I guess having a trident makes things a little different . . ."

Noemi took the hit pretty hard, her weapon almost clattered out of her hands as her eyes widened. Not only had Stormy broke her defense, but she managed to hit...hit her!
She looked over at her cousin.
"M...My weapon is smaller." She tested carefully...."So...So I will bring it in tighter....or something..."
