Disturbing battle behind them, the group, now being officially led by Amir, decides to follow Kalilah back to Adliana, where she will lead them to the place where her tribe has fled to after their encounter with the undead army. Before departing, Rath sends a messenger hawk back to Eyris, to inform them of this sudden change in plans. As he watches the bird fly away, he wonders if this is the right decision, and if his hesitation will only lead to more deaths. One Small MomentThe path across the plains was unsettlingly smooth. After a battle with the undead, the group was on guard the whole way, unable to take in the beauty of their surroundings. However, they were met with no trouble. The end of their journey brought them to the entrance of a cave, where two of Songhua's tribesmen came out and met them. According to Kalilah, the expansive tunnels within the hills are said to have been dug out long ago by nomadic people trying to escape from Loki's wrath. Nowadays, their tribe uses these tunnels as a safe haven in case of emergencies. All sorts of traps lay within, and only a member of Songhua's tribe knows how to properly navigate through the safe routes. Though expansive on the inside, the tunnels themselves were barely large enough for a person on horseback to fit in, in some places. Because of this, the caravan would have to wait outside, and so the soldiers in their company were ordered to wait by Leena's wagon. The two tribesmen also agreed to stay with them, so they could send word inside if something happened. Everyone else who desired to proceeded inside to be led by Kalilah through the tunnels. A low, hushed rumble echoed far off, as dark clouds in the north-east drifted slowly their way.

"You ask why do I not talk much?"_______←« _____ ←« ____ ←« ___ ←« __ ←« _____"...Because there is nothing to say."Rath ------------ Upon passing through the initial entry tunnel, a spacious area met them. This area was filled with many of Songhua's tribe, including most of their horses. As the group came in, the tribesmen took notice of them, but were not concerned; they knew who had come. Some of the women approached members of the group, offering them water to recover from the journey. As any of them locked eyes with Rath, they simply looked down at the ground and went back to their business; a stark different from the usual smiles.
After examining the room, Rath noticed that there were several tunnels connected to the area they were in. It was clear that from here on, they would have to rely completely on Kalilah to bring them to where Songhua was. Rath looked down at Kalilah from atop his horse. "...Which way?"

Well even if you asked the swordswoman where to go in this cave, she barely remembered everything in here. More or less the traps! Oh dear the traps. She'll just have to make due with what she remembered.
Kalilah drew her sword and started to draw on the ground, trying to visualize what she knew and remembered about this cave. 'This is where we currently are, and this is where the chief is. If I remember....' she trailed off, drawing a circle a little north of the diagram, then two on the left. 'There are a few floor traps here and here.....and then pit fall straight ahead of that one.' Something tells her there were more traps than before, but this was the best she could provide. 'If there are more traps than the ones I drew here, then I don't know of them. You'll have to do your best to play guessing games from there."
She stabbed her sword at the drawing again, this time a long line. 'If we follow this path here towards the right, we should be relatively safe. Should there be any traps, I believe it will be a minimum number of it. That's all I really remember.'

"Well, not exactly ideal, but I do not blame you considering recent events. I suppose we'll just have to play it safe for now, hope to regroup with the Chief as quickly and safely as we can." Amir suggested, a bit on edge himself at the rather...constricting accommodations of the tunnel. It reminded him of his own upbringing, dark, dank, and all the leg room in the world. Honestly, it was its own little paradise, if you were able to delude yourself as such. The restriction to his movement wasn't exactly a blessing, but adapting to the situation was something he was going to have to power through.
"You may have devolved leadership to me, but this is still your territory and you are my senior in experience, Sir Rath. I'll leave the direction of our party ultimately up to you."
Most of their party had taken some sort of re-energized charge to their journey here, even if that spark had been dashed the moment they had entered the cavern. It was as if their mood darkened to match their scenery, something they certainly could not leave standing. Amir turned to those behind him, raising a hand as if to give them some sense of direction to their mood. "We head out soon, so everyone prepare! Watch the backs of those around you, memorize the face of the person next to you in case anything happens and stay vigilant! We don't know what's ahead of us, but we have friends relying on us to help them!"

For a lance user on foot, this situation was a blessing and a curse. A lance could be used to tease out traps and test the area that lay before them, but the tight walls limited movement that was necessary to be effective with such weapons in combat.
This rang even truer for Amon, who was used to traveling through tight, low-light tunnels like this. Fortunately, in his lifetime no one had ever tried to lay siege on the tunnels where his people hid from the world. Perhaps they were too well hidden. Perhaps the rest of the world simply didn't care. Nonetheless, such a curse could be considered a blessing, if one was generous with the term.
Though no matter the situation, they would have to tread carefully.
"I volunteer to help at the head of the group." Amon stated. "I may know nothing of these caves, but I will help keep our foes a lance-length away for the benefit of those who do."

"Uh..." a tribe member interjected. "Just take this map... you'll avoid all dangers if you follow the marked path..."
Rath dismounted and then nodded to the tribe member as he took the parchment. In exchange, the the tribe member led Rath's horse over to where the others were beng kept. At Amir's statement, Rath responded with a simple glance and then quickly focused on the map. After analyzing it for a moment, in relation to where they were, and coming to understand the path laid out for them, Rath turned to the group behind him. "...The way is narrow and dark. You needn't come if you do not wish to. You can aid the tribe from here. But for those of you who wish it... do not stray."
The walk was silent, with only a few pauses along the way. Rath was able to follow the path the map showed well, keeping the group safe. As they approached the back of the caves, a light came into view at the end of the tunnel. As they entered the chamber, the group found a handful of tribe members surrounding Songhua, who was resting and being tended to by the tribe's healers. At the sight of Rath, the tribe members stepped back to allow the group to come close.
The vice captain hesitated at the entrance, studying Songhua's condition, shrugging away the heavy tugging sensation that was coming over him. He refused to allow his face to change. As the healer approached him, Rath's eyes met hers. He didn't have to say a word.
"We've done what we can, with what we have..." she whispered. "The poison is strong... and the wounds he suffered during the attack... if we had been able to treat him sooner, or had better treatments..." The healer looked away.
Rath's body felt as if it had been struck by an arrow, yet there was nothing sticking out of his chest. He refused to accept what he was being told. "...Sister Victoria." he called back to her. "Heal him."
Victoria pulled herself through the crowd and made her way over to where Songhua was laying. As she focused, her stave began to glow. Rath moved to Songhua's side as she worked. However, it didn't take her very long before she lowered her stave and bowed her head.
"...I said heal him." Rath's eyes narrowed slightly.
The Sister rose to her feet, head still bowed. "The damage is extensive, and his life force is barely..." She stopped herself from continuing as she swallowed the lump in her throat. "I will try, but... I don't know if I can-"
Rath's eyes flared. "I don't care about your excuses! I told you to heal him, so do it!!!"
Out of the following silence, a cough rang out. "Peace, my friend... I'm glad you made it here." He coughed again, and strained for a moment before staring up at the ceiling. "Elders Kenafa and Kusume... they're dead. Shamir murdered them... He's enlisted Ishtur, and is attempting to bring the other tribes under him, wiping them out if they refuse..." He coughs again. "He must... be stopped..." He looked back to Rath. "...I apologize I was not there to meet you."
Rath's fist tightened. "That doesn't matter... I promise you, I will put an end to this. But you need to hang on..."
Songhua smiled, almost looking like his normal self. "I am always with you, my friend. We will ride together, forever and always." He looked at the people around him and then turned to Kalilah. "It fills my heart with joy to see you made it safely. I have no children of my own, but I always saw you as being like my own daughter. I am glad to see you return." He looked to Sue. "Sweet Sue, full of spirit and grace. Your father is fortunate to have you as his daughter. Never let him forget that." He forced out a chuckle and then turned to Amir. "I am sorry for this. I had looked forward to fighting together to aid your people. I wonder if the stars shine just as brightly in the desert as they do here..."
He turned his head back to Rath. "Do you remember the day you first came to us? Your face was long, and you carried a great weight upon you. I could tell you felt lost... I told you that you were our guest and did not need to lift a finger, but you came out and hunted with us anyway. You became a part of our tribe. I remember it all clearly... The spirits of the wind sang and danced through the grass and the trees... It was a good day... A fine day for making a lifelong friend."
Rath's fist tightened further as he hid it close to his side. "And there will be many more like it to come..."
The sudden appearance of a breathless tribe member ended the calm. "We're... under attack...! They came so suddenly... The caravan and soldiers outside have been taken captive. They're scouring the cave tunnels, looking for the Chieftain!"
The vice captain looked to the group. "Stay close to a member of the tribe while traversing the tunnels." He looked back to Songhua, and upon seeing the worry on his face, took his hand. "We'll take care of them..." Rath laid Songhua's hand back at his side, before standing up and making his way to entrance of the chamber.
"Be careful, my friend..." the chieftain uttered, weakly.
Rath looked back. "Just make sure you're better when I return." He glanced at Victoria, giving her a telling look, and then left to join the fight.

Within the main chamber of the cave, adlians from a different tribe were fighting against Songhua's tribe, and the rest of the group from Learania, pushing them back deeper into the network of tunnels as they were forced to retreat. A swordsman stood beside a man on horseback, feathers within his hair, signifying his importance. The swordsman had a smug grin on his face. "None of Songhua's traitors must survive! Hunt them all down, and bring the disgraced Chieftain to us!" The swordsman shouted to his own tribe. "Capture any learanians if possible, but if they want to fight, put an arrow in them!" The swordsman turned to his chieftain, noting the unsettled look on his face. "Father... you don't need to be here. Leave this to me! I will carry out the rest of this task Elder Shamir has given us." The chieftain looked at his son, with pained eyes. "...Just finish it quickly, Rashar." Head low, the chieftain exited the cave to join the rest of their fighters. "..." The swordsman watched his father leave, then turned his head sharply back to face the battle. "I will not allow you to be so weakhearted and doom us, father..." he grumbled, lowly. "We will head into the future, with Elder Shamir to guide us!"

Amir had been standing some distance away from Rath during this tearful reunion, joining the many others there we had looked at the Chieftain with the upmost sorrow in their features. The young king may have not known him for long, but there was something about Songhua's cheerful laugh, the fact that he had been willing to see him and his party to this point, that had made this impactful, almost as if he was standing by the foot of his father's bed as he had passed in his arms all over again. His breath caught in his throat as he struggled to keep his feelings from spilling out into the world when he felt Amon's hand on his shoulder, a wordless glance exchanged between the two as Amir collected himself. Yes...He certainly knew when he needed that stabilizing support....
"They certainly do, Songhua. The plains are a beautiful sight, just so as my home. When I'm free to sit outside and gaze onto them as any other free man, truly I hope that day I might be so blessed as to take you there as a friend. But for now...Please, rest and recover. We'll take care of the rest of this campaign." Amir made his response short, wanting to give respects to the mournful more deserving, before taking a step to the side to allow them some room. It was then that news came of the attack, prompting Amir to call his retainers to his side, sprinting to rejoin with the main group already engaging the enemy. "Honestly, with the way things are, I'm not sure I'll be able to sit right with engaging with them with what Kalilah told us about the deception looming around but..." Amir drew his sword from its scabbard, taking position with his retainers as they prepared to engage. "I won't forgive any who take pursuit after our friends!"
Amir dashed forward, locking blades with an incoming nomad, pushing through the pained feeling at his gut. The competitive side of him would normally take a sense of satisfaction clashing with Adilian steel, a sense of swordplay completely alien to him, but the reality of the situation dirtied the sensation as Amir could feel the anger bubbling from within. "Sentria...Mordache...How much lower can they honestly bring themselves to be?!" A flick of his blade, his bladework quick and precise, brought his opponent off balance before Amir made his final blow quick and merciful, blade held tightly at his side as he urged himself onward, the dirty taste in his mouth persisting all the while. "Let's just make this quick."

Ramla had chosen to stay alongside her liege, giving Ser Rath the space he needed with his ailing companion. There was nothing she could do for Chieftain Songhua and could only lament at her lack of strength again. Before, it was for Lord Amir's late father, and now it was... She was aware she lacked the magical capacity to use anything more than wind magic at this time, but she hoped that someday she could do more. A tome in one hand to smite her lord's enemies, and a healing staff in the other to protect her lord, his allies, and all the innocents caught up in conflicts. That was her wishful dream for the future. 'If only there was something I could do to help Chieftain Songhua...'
Her thoughts were broken when one of Chieftain Songhua's tribesmen breathlessly entered the chamber they were in and alerted them of an assault. To disturb the already fragile peace with more conflict and aggression... unforgivable.
Yes, there were things she couldn't do, but there were also things she could do, and that was to assist in handling the threat and giving the Learanian priestess ample space and a peace of mind to do everything she could for the chieftain. "Winds, guide us." she quietly uttered a small prayer as she drew her tome from her bag.
She followed after her lord Amir and the others as she opened the tome and began an incantation. A blade of wind formed and swept out to strike an enemy tribesman that had nocked an arrow onto his bow, probably intending to feather one of her companions.

Oujay walked up to Victoria and placed a hand on her shoulder. ”Don’t worry, he’s just feeling a bit stressed from the situation, don’t let it get to you.” He wasn't sure if these were really the right words to say, but he hoped that she'd feel better. He gives another quick pat on the shoulder before he joins into the battle.
The invisible hero quickly makes his way towards the frontlines. Spying a friendly nomad on the ground, Oujay leaps forward and blocks the enemy blow with his shield. He pushed the enemy back and strikes the swordsman as he was stumbling from the parry. Oujay turns around and helps the ally back up onto his feet. “Follow me, I’ll be your shield.”

"You ask why do I not talk much?"_______←« _____ ←« ____ ←« ___ ←« __ ←« _____"...Because there is nothing to say."Rath ------------ The Adlian fighting styles were not foreign to Rath, who had sparred with Songhua's tribe on many occasions. This tribe seemed to favor segmenting themselves into small groups, with each person playing a key role in their formation. While taking an offensive approach, their opponents would likely listen for the movements of their targets, move forward with a swordsman at the front to engage and distract while archers lined up their shot from the rear. In a sense, the tribe wasn't battling: they were hunting.
Without the need of a guide due to the possession of a map, Rath was pushing ahead beyond sight of the rest of his group. A normally calm, rational mind was being clouded. His anger propelled him through his enemies. After dispatching the first small group he came upon, he knelt down and examined the bodies, using the light of a torch one them was carrying. He turned one of the bodies over and broke loose an artifact that was around its neck: a carved figure of some sort of symbol He looked at their markings, clothing style and colors as well. He paused, and his heart skipped a beat. Rath's grip on the artifact tightened, as he scowled. "Wayrin..."

Amon respectfully bowed his head and closed his eyes in respect for the injured Songhua.
Almost instinctively, Amon put his hand on his liege's shoulder. He could feel his emotions in the air. The awful tension. The need for a pillar of stone.
Seeing even the slightest improvement in his Lord's mood was enough to relieve Amon somewhat as well.
Ramla was always better at these sorts of things, as was his Lord. Though Songhua had seemed trustworthy, speaking of people that they had not known for long was not something Amon was good at. He hoped that his emotions and actions spoke where his words could not.
When it came time to enter the fray again, Amon dashed to Amir's side and began defending his flank while keeping an eye on Ramla as well. He made sure no one came within a lance's length of the group with their lives still intact.
"We won't let them tear us apart." Amon finally spoke, during a brief break in the action. "Our unity is stronger then theirs."

The young swordmistress stood there, speechless and unable to express anything for her chieftain who lied on the ground. After all this time and years..she felt like she failed. Felt like the world around her crumbled for the first time as she stared at him, trying so hard to talk to Rath. Kalilah clenched her fists. She should have been there by his side this entire time. The only reason she left him even for a moment was to get help yet somehow all of that seemed pointless if it was all going to end this way.
The chieftain turned to her and smiled. That kind and gentle smile she remembered as a child. Songhua was like a second father to her, taught her how to use a bow. She handled it poorly but they were good memories.
Just then from behind them, some of her tribesmen had informed them that the enemy was closing in and fast. Kalilah stared at her chief for a good moment. Lifting her hands to her face and gave herself a good slap as if to break herself out of her trance state she was in. Now was not the time to be sad or cry. The chief isn't dead...not yet. She won't allow it, not while Kalilah could still wield a sword.
The young swordmistress gripped her sword with her left hand and unsheathed it, tossing it lightly into the air before catching it with her right hand. "We're bringing him back alive...." Trailing off before turning to the rest of her tribesman and put on the biggest smile she could muster "Because he's our Chiefy! Right?" That's right. She'll give this her all, for her sake, her tribe and her chief.

The blacksmith didn't need any other incentive to join the fray than hearing the sound of combat. "Gotta continue earning my pay here, else I'll be out of a job." He said, chuckling to himself and drawing his hammer. The damage to this land was nearing the pain that had struck the lands of Jugdral, and he did not want the strife to spread further.
Finding a nearby nomad he flung his hammer, smacking an arrow that was flying towards the other with ease. "Can't have you falling in this fight. Your chief needs your strength more than ever!" He called out, flicking his hammer back onto his back. Drawing a sword, he grinned at the other. "But now's a good time for the fight!"

Surprised shouts echoed from various tunnels. Cries about poison and pits resounded from the attacking tribe, as they began to discover the perils of caves. "...What is this place?" Rashar growled.
Unsatisfied with waiting, and eager to contribute, Rashar darted forward into one of the tunnels he saw the most fleeing tribesmen go to. Knowing there were traps, he could exercise more caution, but theorized that since most of his targets went through this tunnel, the dangers would also most likely be low.
One of Songhua's tribe thought he could wait in surprise and slashed at the swordsman as he turned a corner. Rashar intercepted the blade with his own and pinned it against the cave wall. With his free hand, he quickly grabbed the tribesman's sword arm, twisted it harshly, possibly breaking it, and once the man dropped his sword, Rashar plunged his own into the man's gut. Unfazed by the feeble attempt, Rashar shoved the man off of his sword and kept going.
The attacking Adlians continued to push Songhua's tribe and the Learanians deeper into the tunnel networks. The only advantage the defenders had was that they knew the secret dangers of the caves and could avoid the ancient traps... or, with some strategy, utilize them. They could even try to move through the networks to try and meet up with others so that they weren't so spread out and vulnerable. However, that would be up to them to try.
