Another day, another spar. Hanna was really feeling the burn from her last matches, radiating in her arms and legs, but she was also feeling better, which was basically all she cared about. After taking a break for lunch, she was back out, trolling for people who looked open to spar. She had asked a few who rejected her, which chapped her a**. So she came to the glorious conclusion that she should just cut the bullshit and make a sign. The sign read: Looking for Spar And Hanna was sitting in front of it, legs straight out in front of her as if she were tanning and not actively seeking a fight.

Evan hadn't come out to the training field necessarily looking for a spar, not that he was likely to turn one down; he was always there in the early afternoon for another exciting, fun-filled few hours of hitting training dummies, but if someone else happened to be there, so much the better. Half the time it was empty, but he'd never seen someone so desperate for a spar that they put a sign out for it. "Well, at least you're in the right place for it," Evan said, amused, to the girl sitting in front of it. He recognized her--it was hard not to, with those tattoos--but he'd never really gotten a chance to talk to her. No time like the present, he supposed. "I'm up for one if you are." Hanna jerked a thumb out at the sign. "The sign does not lie," she said, getting to her feet. She brushed her palms off on her thighs and got a more level look at her opponent. She recognized him from a few things -- Sahara, Memorial Day Party, hard to miss a super attractive guy stuff. (Though she did not put it together that he was also the voice she had run into in one of the corridors during The Purge.) "Evan, right?" she said, easing her totem earrings out of her lobes but not yet summoning her weapon. The redhead pointed at herself. "Hanna." She preferred avoiding the awkward do-you-know-me-because-I-know-you thing. "Trying to get better at maneuvering with my twinblade. She's a big girl." Adelphe's rage in her mind was fierce, bringing on an insta-headache. Touchy. inle-roo I would have sensed it anyway (maybe).

"That's right," Evan confirmed with a nod, committing Hanna's name to memory. "It's nice to finally meet you, Hanna. I've seen you around--you're hard to miss, you know, with the..." he trailed off, gesturing vaguely around his face. "Anyway. It's good to put a name to a face." Evan just bet she had a big weapon. Little people with big weapons seemed to be an ongoing theme, and he wondered, not for the first time, if a weapon's size was dependent upon its wielder's. It would explain, maybe, why tiny little things like Molly and Stormy and, apparently, Hanna had such oversized weapons; maybe they were compensating for their Hunters' lack of height. He took a couple of steps backwards, enough to give them room to summon their respective partners. "Don't know how much help I can be, but I'd be happy to see what I can do." Gir materialized in his hands, the tip of the blade pointing towards the ground. "Come on," he said. "Ladies first."

Hanna watched with flat golden eyes as Evan indicated his face in place of words. Then, slowly, the corner of her mouth turned upward. It was, wasn't it, why she had gotten them in the first place? To be noteworthy? To stand out? Mission accomplished. Apparently. When Evan summoned his weapon, she followed suit, taking out her earrings and adjusting her grip as they locked together and swelled into a massive, wickedly curved twinblade. "Practice is helpful," she said simply, trying to hide the flash of indignation when Evan used the term "ladies first." He was sparring with her, best not to scare him off with some barbed comment. Drawing in a breath, Hanna paced a few steps, testing the weight of Adelphe in her hands. Then she charged forward, faking a swipe with the left end of her weapon, but instead reversing it to slash with the other end. The attack bit, but Hanna pushed herself to move through it, completing her action until she was on the other side of Evan. It had been a mistake she had made early on -- landing a blow but then stopping afterward. At least that was one way she had gotten better. HP: 40/40 Damage: 5 Charge: 1/3

Evan's eyes were drawn to the twin blade as it manifested in Hanna's hands, intrigued, as always, by the lines and curves and potential of a weapon he had never seen before. It looked almost ridiculous in Hanna's hands, too big for a girl so small, but no less deadly for it. He waited patiently for Hanna to work out of her plan of attack, smiling pleasantly even as she seemed to decide on a course of action and rushed at him. He fell for her feint, raising his weapon to deflect hers, and was left completely open for her real attack. He found himself pleasantly surprised by the shock of pain she left in her wake. "Good," Evan said as he let the momentum from the blow spin him to face her, his own blade slashing down at her in one fluid motion. "Smart thinking, nice follow through. Don't stop within range of someone bigger and stronger than you if you can help it, but if you're going to hang around there, keep moving. Speed and agility are going to be your biggest assets." Evan moved through her attack and landed a serious slashing blow across her torso. She grimaced at the unpleasant sensation, but kept her movement up, darting to a crouch and slashing at Evan's legs. "Assuming you're stronger?" she said, quirking a grin. He was, as a Hunter. She knew, but it still made her happy to rib him a little about it, especially mid-attack when she could feel it had been a good strike. The hit sank in, hopefully hard enough to cause him to stumble or even go down, but Evan was quite a bit bigger than her. Hanna kept moving, drawing her weapon back into her chest to try to avoid becoming entangled. HP: 30/40 Damage: 7 Charge: 2/3

Hanna's strike had the desire effect as Evan stumbled, tripped up by the blow and the odd shape of her weapon. "Assuming," he replied as he regained his footing, "that I can comfortably lift two of you." His lunge towards her was clumsy, his balance slow to reset, but he was far more about brute force than finesse anyway. The teeth of his blade swiped at her side, still landing solidly, but not as cleanly as it had previously. "Better!" He exclaimed, nodding approvingly. HP: 38/50 Damage: 7 Charge: 2/3; 1/1, 1/1

A surge of satisfaction ricocheted through Hanna when she saw her strike worked — not only did it hit, but it hit enough to set her target stumbling. So far, this was working like a choreographed dance for her, much better than her typical experience. This was more of a testament to the great volume of training she had undergone recently, both Deus mandated and her own personal motivation, than it was a comment on Evan’s skill. Hanna was just getting better, less useless in battle. Huzzah! Evan moved toward her again, and it was actually his clumsy stance that helped land a solid blow. The Death trainee was not sure which way to move and so she took a nasty scraping again at her side. “Are you trying to tell me that this is my good side, so you must keep attacking it?” she said, a touch of banter since she was feeling pretty good about herself so far in this melee. “Because this is yours,” she added, jabbing behind her with Adelphe to clip Evan just below the chin. Hanna's indecision gave Evan the precious seconds he needed to regain his footing. It was obvious that she made up for in strategic thinking what she lacked in brute strength; she went for all of the right points to take someone down, and it was more dumb luck than anything else that he hadn't fallen on his a** somewhere between her strike and his retaliation. That didn't stop his head from jerking back as Hanna smacked him under the chin. It wasn't nearly as painful as it was surprising, her words drawing a grin out of him. "I don't know, all your sides look equally good to me," Evan flirted reflexively. "But if you want, I could try to hit them all up anyway." He jabbed pointedly at her opposite side with the rounded tip of his blade. HP: 35/50 Damage: 4 Charge: 3/3; 1/1, 1/1

In spite of herself, Hanna grinned at Evan's compliment. She couldn't help it; it was nice to be told something complimentary. He jabbed at her side, clipping her with a stab. The grass squeaked under her feet as she bounced away. "Such a gentleman," she said wryly. "I'll try to be as much of a lady."
Caught up in the moment, Hanna winked as her weapon began to glow brightly. Adelphe hissed in her mind, ready to unleash the Fear attack. Hanna ran toward Evan, leapt up into the air, but at the last moment, the Lady chimed in. Oh, I like him. You're going to chase him away if you strike so forcefully, she cooed. You're lucky you have me to handle these delicate situations.
Her twin blade sliced into Evan's arm, and the beginning sensation of his flesh being eaten, the wound starting to double in size began. Then weapon dimmed suddenly, and Hanna landed back on the ground on his other side. Something felt off, like her Fear stopped short. A frown deepened on her lips. "Well, ********," she said (ladylike), "apparently my weapon has stars in her eyes over such chivalry." This was... embarrassing.

Evan grinned as Hanna winked at him, bracing himself for the blow he knew was coming. He admired her form as she leaped at him weapon-first, and although her strike hurt--more than he thought it would, with the added sensation of his shield burning away where the weapon had sliced--it didn't seem to do much damage. His grin grew into an outright smile as he turned to face Hanna. "Yeah?" That could definitely work to his advantage. He reached out with his blade and snagged Hanna around the waist with the long front teeth, tugging her closer. "Just your weapon?" It was maybe the most romantic way anyone had ever attacked her, the teeth of his weapon lacerating (well, the feeling of it at least) the skin on her back. She smiled and drew close to Evan, her smaller form somewhat dwarfed by his larger one. A smile dusted across her lips and she leaned closer. Metal clinked on metal as she hooked his weapon with her own and forced it to the side. She let the momentum carry her, stabbing one bladed end into the ground and pushing herself up off the ground to land a kick on Evan's chest. Twirling around the blade, she landed on the ground on its other side, weapon ready to continue. "Maybe," she said, because holy s**t this island could be lonely sometimes and flirting was super fun -- especially with someone who made it so easy and not weird, like Evan. Hope stretched Evan's smile wider by degrees as Hanna leaned in, but he found that he wasn't disappointed as she used their proximity--and his distraction--against him. Quite the opposite: he laughed even as he stumbled back, pleased by her quick thinking and inventiveness (and flexibility). "Aw, only maybe?" Evan teased lightly. "What can we do to make that an outright yes?" Lunging at her was probably not the best way to make that happen, but he'd take his chances.
