Name: Nera
Race: Earthling – Fire
Gender: Female
Stage: Prentice
Base Traits: Emotional, Rambunctious, Jealous, Self-centered, Intelligent
Personality:
[+]Intelligent: Truly Nera’s only redeeming quality is her sharp intellect and ability to think quickly on her feet. Astute in various fields of study the redhead has always been one to think several paces ahead of others while paying attention to the infinitesimal details so that nothing truly escapes her scrutiny and somewhat manipulative approach to problem solving. Nera is a smart young woman who mostly looks out for herself, in this regard she uses her intelligence to benefit herself in whatever manner she can.
[+/-]Emotional: Nera has always been a little bit on the touchy-feely side of the personal boundary spectrum. Ever since she was little the fire earthling has been a slightly more sensitive when it comes to her personal feelings and how those around her effects them due to this she tends to have volatile swings in her mood regardless of the situation that she finds herself in. One moment Nera can be all smiles and sunshine the next she can be on the cusp of tears while at the same time plotting someone’s death for hurting her emotional state. The only positive occurrence that comes with being such a sensitive individual is in the fact that when she sees others that are upset she actually is somewhat decent at lending a shoulder to cry on for comfort; after all it is a good way to have someone pay attention to her fully.
[+/-]Rambunctious: The habit of being extra loud was one Nera had ever since she was just a youngling, back then it was all she could do to get attention from adults. She was one of those children that couldn’t sit still and made a mess nearly out of everything that she was given yet always seemed to take delight in all of her actions and smiled regardless of the punishment that she received from it. The trait it seemed was one that she never fully grew out of and rather molded to in her indolence, even though she at times seems cool, or even cold, perhaps even bitter she is vocal the moment she talks and has a high exuberance of energy in all of her daily tasks, she lives for attention and enjoys the stares she receives from being a bit over the top in her bravado.
[-]Jealous: Oh gods and goddesses beware of the green-eyed monster they birthed when Nera was created. Jealousy is one of the few emotions that taints nearly all other feelings that the girl contains, what is it that others have that she doesn’t? What makes these people better than her? Why is it that this person is having all of the attention and she is getting absolutely none? Honestly to Nera it doesn’t matter, the answers to the questions that plague her mind, all she knows is that it leaves a dull ache in her chest followed by a burning rage that makes her insides scream for justice. This severity of emotion sometimes causes a bit of a sadistic streak to surface in the young woman, others pain quenching the longing she feels by replacing the attention she seeks with suffering of those have caused her pain. In extremely bouts of jealousy Nera loses control over her emotions fully and tends to lash out at herself in a rather masochistic manner until she is so exhausted she simply can’t feel anything any longer.
[-]Self-Centered: The core to everything that makes Nera herself lies in her selfish and attention-seeking nature that she has developed over time. Simply put everything must revolve around her whether it is good or bad, it doesn’t make a difference. In this fact Nera isn’t as self-centered as she might seem, she however is attention starved and desperate for affection but has gone without these positive reinforcements for such a long time that the youth has become somewhat wild in her actions yet self-dependent. All of these elements combine to create several offshoots of different traits that seem to be unrelated yet in actuality all stem right back to her self-centered personality, which at times makes Nera appear to be more superficial and childish than what really lies under the surface which is far more complex than what it seems.
Description:
Hair Style: Short and well-groomed. Nera sweeps her bangs forward on one side while slicking her hair back on the other which causes it to be somewhat spiked in the back. Her bangs are positioned perfectly so that they do not obscure her vision and fall just past her cheek on the parted-half; on the side that is spiked back Nera also has a small, tightly woven singular braid that falls down to mid-neck. [Hair]
Hair Color: Dark red
Eye Color: Pale pink
Skin Tone: Dark caramel [skin tone, the one marked as caramel]
Body Type: Nera is commonly mistaken for a young man/ boy, her body is boyish in build and lacks feminine curves. Her hips are narrow and somewhat squared like that of a man and her chest is abnormally flat for a girl of her age. Despite looking like a rather effeminate male Nera seemingly doesn’t care about her discarded womanhood and works hard on her figure to maintain its lean and trimmed appearance. Nera’s arms are somewhat slender with subtle muscle playing just under the surface, what she lacks in bulk her lithe frame compensates with a compact and solid structure for her short height; this mainly refers to her tapered off waist and well defined abdomen and legs. A thin, small built powerhouse. [In this regard I feel as if a ‘male’ prentice base would work better for her, if that is alright.]
Visage: Attractive in its own effeminate yet boyish way. Nera has strikingly sharp features such as a pointed chin, well-defined cheekbones, and a nose that is just ever so slightly crooked at the ridge as if it were broke a long time ago and never set correctly. She however has a somewhat baby faced appearance which makes her look like a young boy especially with slightly rounded cheeks. Her brows are a bit more fuller than most women tend to keep theirs and the shape is somewhat sculpted [brows]. Nera has a somewhat pouty bottom lip coupled with thin upper lip which makes her mouth look as if she is purposefully sulking in a cute manner nearly at all times unless she smiles in which case it is a cool expression that seems somewhat somber and subdued.
Crystal Placement: Nera has two rather oblong orange crystals that run over her shoulder blades and down her upper back. There is also a rather sizeable crystal in the top center of her back a few inches away from the larger growths. Near her shoulders she has three decent sized nodes that are visible from the side. [Crystal Diagram]
Clothing: Nera clads herself in simple, loose, thin garments and prefers to wear lace up sandals when it comes to foot wear. The top that she wears is a sandy yellow cloth that drapes over her shoulders and falls over her chest obscuring her small breasts to better conceal the fact she is a woman from further away and up-close [top] [top better closer view] [she does not wear an under shirt like in the reference picture] Her midsection is exposed all the way to her hipbones where she covers herself in a loose wrap which is also sandy yellow in color. [wrap] with a dark purple rope belt adorning the side as if simply placed for aesthetics. [Sandals, golden orange in color, solid in color]
Accessories: I don’t know if this will be allowed or not however if it is okay I would like for Nera to carry with her a small stuffed animal, in later stages she will convert the plush toy into a purse/satchel of sorts. [this fella]
History:
Judgment falls upon all those the moment they are born and Talia was not one to think otherwise. The morning light seemed to carry a red tint to it as the sandstorms just outside of the capital raged on buffeting the walls of the buildings and blowing through every nook and cranny that permitted access to the grit laden wind. General Talia had not been eager to give birth, in fact the woman wasn’t excited about the entire situation at hand, she had allowed one night of loneliness to change the whole course of her life. A night fueled by wine, mead and lust, who honestly would have thought that a casual romp in the sack with one of her lower ranking soldiers would have led to a rounded stomach and the unsettling squirm of some b*****d parasite draining her of her own nourishment and perfect physique. The verdict had been passed down onto Talia and she accepted it because it was the will of her god, it was just another test for her to prove herself worthy. The offspring that she would be forced to call daughter was her punishment and Talia would not allow the small, dark skinned babe with is red misshapen head to damage her stature nor besmirch her name. She would raise the child, mold it, shape the disgrace into something that one day she could show pride in, her god Nerda gave her this sentence and she would see it out until the end and would never make the same mistake again. On that day when the sandstorms of Sulburi raged violently and the sun was painted red in the morning sky she proclaimed the child’s name as Nera; a callous reminder to herself so that she would never forget exactly what the child represented to her then swaddled her in cloth and begrudgingly allowed it to suckle until it’s stomach grew hard and it fell into a deep sleep that newborns often do.
General Talia was a stern mother, she didn’t allow for her child to play in games with other children her age unless of course those games where of skill such as swordplay and archery and seldom did she show affection to the small girl. It wasn’t that the woman didn’t care for her child, she simply was not the sort of person to show emotion, she had spent so long in the military that allowing any candid emotion show was something that had nearly been ground out of her; every action she made carried weight with it and was scrutinized by others, even though she had a child out of wedlock the mere fact that she still tended to it rather than hide it showed that she was a woman of scrupulous morals and was revered for that integrity and honesty within the public eye. But to Nera there was seemingly nothing she could do to win her mother’s affection; the closest she received was private lectures and the occasional tutoring with weaponry and strategy but that was as far as her mother’s attention would go towards the youngling, she after all still held a high position in the king’s court and seldom had time for anything outside of work. The more the woman shut her child out so that she could focus on her duties the more uncontrolled the little redhead became until she lashed out and threw fits of crying at all hours of the evening without end. The result ended with General Talia hiring an au pair to tend to the unruly whelp. The caretaker it seemed was exactly what the attention-starved youngling needed in her life; the elderly female provided everything that her mother refused to give her and took care of her for several passing seasons. It was during a mild autumn that Nera for the first time in her life was allowed to celebrate with her mother in public during one of the many festivals that the King of Oba held, that day the girl had acted so proper and polite that Talia found herself proud for just a short while and as a reward bought the youngling a toy from one of the several venders and a small bag of yellow and red taffy. The candy only lasted for a short while but the toy that her mother bought her soon became her most precious possession; never to leave her side.
It was only a few months later that the woman that took care of Nera grew ill and within the course of a few days passed away leaving the girl without proper attention, this news distressed General Talia however seeing as how her daughter was much older decided against hiring another nanny for the youngling and instead allowed her freedom to do whatever she pleased as long as she didn’t throw tantrums or embarrass her in front of nobility or military counterparts. This was truly the beginning of Nera’s personality settling into place, the girl knew that if she acted out in front of her mother then there would be heavy consequences however if she sought out attention from other people; strangers then she wouldn’t get in trouble while at the same time lessening the odd pain she felt from being so distant from her mother. Nera learned as long as she acted the part of the demure, compliant daughter then she could get whatever she wanted which included independence in choosing her own style of clothing and how she was allowed to wear her hair. Nera had always taken a great pride in her boyish appearance since her mother also head a rather manish build, there was something comfortable about wearing masculine cut fabrics and relishing the hot winds of the desert kissing the bare nape of her neck on the hottest of summer days, in her mind she always felt she would have made a better prince than some military officer’s child. Talia had never sugar coated the fact that she thought men had an easier time in life than women, garnishing more respect and claiming the things they desired effortlessness, this line of thought intrigued Nera and made her jealous that she hadn’t been born male yet with her body type and in the proper clothing she was just as good if not better than those of the opposite gender.
All good things unfortunately as Nera learned must eventually come to an end. Her wakeup call happened all too abruptly when the war began, that winter took the girl not only from the safety of the only home she knew but also from the woman that had caused her years of neglect and emotional trauma. General Talia had brought her daughter with her into war, in her mind she was sharing with her battle experience and the thrill of being part of the glory of the Oban people. Nera was a prentice now and in her mother’s eyes on the verge of adulthood, she herself had trained the girl to wield a blade and wouldn’t allow her child to fall victim in the throngs of battle; not to the mongrels that saw themselves their foes. It was this mindset that drove the boyish redhead away from the woman that now proudly proclaimed herself mother, if it had been under any other circumstance Nera would have greatly taken the affection however what Talia didn’t see was the fact that the war was just too much for the youth to handle, she wasn’t a fighter or a healer, she was completely useless when it came right down to the matter at hand; Nera knew that she was not ready and if she bowed her head and acted the part that she normally played then she would not be returning home with the rest of the troops. The night before the attack Nera gathered her things and stowaway into the darkness of the Jauhar forest. She was on her own and yet that fact didn’t scare her, it was knowing that soon she would find others and being what she was feared for the first time in her life the sort of attention that she would draw.

I love her description and personality and history - she seems well built already, and I know how hard you worked on her!
Whenever I think of Nera trying to get attention from others my mind usually shoots to her flirting with others - but given her boyish appearance I wonder how much attention she received, unprovoked, from men.
So the attention she started to get - do you think it would be more to do with her station, as daughter of a general? What kind of rapport do you think she'd have with others ?? ( this isn't a problem or issue I'm just curious and elaboration is always great X3~ )

In the above history most of it takes place during her youngling years and at that time I really see her as being too young to flirt. As far as the attention she began to acquire, really it was from strangers that didn't know whom her parent was. As far as thinking along these lines, I would assume some people were aware of her heritage and treated her like a golden child in hopes her mother would hear of their kindness and reward them for their actions.
Even though Nera is boyish she holds certain feminine qualities, this I am sure might lure certain type of men towards her or women for that matter, now that she is a little older she is beginning to learn how to flirt to gain more attention but really hasn't had any practice at this moment in time.

First of, Welcome to Tendaji! I am Akuma, and you are receiving my first Critique... So hopefully I make you think~ Alright, The more I read this to find critiques for you the more I keep wondering; Why on earth did this woman ever get pregnant? Clearly she didn’t want the child… Was she raped? Did she have a “whimsical romance” (I say this jokingly; she doesn’t seem the type) with a soldier who died? Also, Why did she keep the babe (Other than plot)? She could have easily given her up for adoption. Did she figure no one could give the child a better life because of her stature? Does she have too much pride to give up what she brought into this world or did she refuse to “Burden” someone else with her problem? Why does she choose to look like a boy? Did her mother, when giving her attention, treat her more like a boy? Did Nera think her mother would have favored a son, and therefore she attempts to mimic that? Does she feel she was just brought up to be more of a masculine character, so she’s having a bit of an identity crisis? And lastly, not that this has much to do with her or her profile just asking to satisfy my own curiosities… What is she going to do now that she is in Tendaji? It is likely she’s never seen a tree (not as massive as the ones in Jauhar) before due to living out in the desert all her life, and yet she casts herself into some of the most dangerous terrain in tendaji. She’s surrounded by hostile people who just got done getting their rears handed to them by her people; therefore any folk she comes across is likely to not be very welcoming to her. Plus, if she goes back to the Oban camps she is likely to be turned over to her mother… D: She’s fighting an uphill battle for sure… And I love it <3 ^^ just wanted to know the direction you were taking. Otherwise great job.

Alright emotion_awesome New quest. Awesome :}
Everything that Akuma said. I don't really have much more to add to that, so once those questions are answered we'll have our final run through.
The only other thing is her stuffed animal. Youngling and prentices aren't allowed to be holding anything in their art, so it wouldn't show up until Stage 2+. Is that alright with you? :]

I would like to begin by stating thank you both for taking the time to comb through my quest and I would like to apologize for all of the points that I failed to elaborate upon; I tend to elude to things so that it leaves more room for flexibly in game play and when being read by others rather than making it completely set in stone, but that is just how I am when I write.
*claps hands together* So ladies, I went back and re-worded and explained upon some of the points that I had previously breezed over. I would just like to touch back on those points in a less-prose fashion so that there are no misunderstandings as to what I am attempting to convey in the above highlighted sections (which I have denoted in red font so that it is easier for you to go back over to see what was altered).
With General Talia she simply… is a person, and like most people has basic needs and wants and she has her own ideals that govern her actions. More or less she had a little too much fun, ended up partaking in one nightstand and when she found out she was pregnant from it decided to keep the baby not just because of her pride but because she worships Nerad, The God of Judgment (seeing as she is a high ranking military officer I thought it was rather fitting he is her main deity) and she fully believes that her actions had been weighed and the verdict that He bestowed upon her for her lack of proper conduct was this child that…in her mind, she has to raise, she doesn’t have to love it but in raising this embodiment of her consequences she will restore order and gain forgiveness in the eyes of her god; which to her is apparently important. General Talia would never give the child up for adoption for that exact reason; Nera is her child, her mistake, her punishment for not fully applying herself into her duties so she would never allow someone else to raise her as their own.
The freedom she gives Nera when she gets older is a representation of how she thinks she is repairing her relationship with her deity, her child is ‘behaving’ and acting the picture of perfection as far as she is concerned and in this she feels less forced into monitor Nera to make sure that she is preforming to the standard that Nerad would expect.
I hope that covers my mindset with how and why Nera was kept as a baby by her mother *points to the next section* So, you all asked why Nera “choses” to look like a boy. Originally that isn’t what I had hoped for you to walk away with from how I described her. She was intended to just be … well … a somewhat masculine yet feminine looking character. I mean, you don’t ask a person why their skin is the color it is or how come they have a big or little nose, it’s just genetic. I had simply described what she looked like without really thinking it could be that she ‘chose’ to look that way. She lived in the desert, so she wears loose fitted closing that is light, she keeps her hair short due to the heat that dark hair collects in the overhead sun, she looks like a little boy because she is short in height but due to genetics she is rather lean built, I made mention that her mother trained her so that would keep her trim, physically fit. After seeing that…how she looked was . . . an issue . . . I guess? I decided that maybe I should add something about her . . . wanting to be a boy? I really felt that wasn’t … really necessary but I guess it would make sense… though honestly I could live without that being part of her mindset just for continuity of her genetics making her look like a slender masculine. No disrespect aimed with that comment, just putting my opinion out there for you both to go over and maybe re-think that bit.
Now to settle Miss Akuma’s curiosity about why little Nera would go off on her own under some really gnarly circumstances. As the player Nera, she is smart, she has studied books about the country, not out of respect of the different races but for strategy purposes and such so I am sure she has learned about the different regions however she is still just a dumb kid regardless of how astute she is. With her mother being a general I can tell you that Nera is truly an Oban to the core, she sees being in this dangerous rainforest as something of a game, she is better than the residents of the Jauhar forest because that is what she has been taught to think, if these savages can survive so can she…sort of that mental process for her. However at the same time she feels because she is more civilized and intelligent that she can just manipulate, lie, somehow trick her way out of any dangers she might encounter with the people that she meets. It’s exciting and all attention is going to be on her for the first time in her life. Honestly she doesn’t plan to go back to the Oban camps, she sort of feels her mother let her out of the cage and now it is her turn to just . . . run with it and be her own person, to be the center of her own world and make others around her notice her. As the player I am fine with the attention that she is craving so badly to get her into a heap of trouble, and regardless of how much Nera thinks she completely thought her actions through we all know she really, really didn’t and there are going to be consequences she is going to face because of her reckless behavior and I am just totally jumped for that! I really am! *pinches her cheek* dumb little egghead.
Erm . . . anyhow . . . the stuffed animal she carries wouldn’t be allowed in her art, I am completely fine with that, however would I still be allowed to make references to her having it on her person (mostly for continuity for when she does get the item, if she is allowed later on)? . . . I think I covered everything that was asked, let me know what you all think and again thank you for your time and I really do value your feedback and honesty in regards to my quest. Miss Akuma, Miss Kana, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I was sort of on the same page as you as far as her looking like a masculine feminine lol but I was still curious as to whether Nera thought her mother would have found it better to have a son. But I get you and I think that pretty much settles all of the questions :]
Her stuffed animal can most definitely be IC. I have no problem with them having/holding anything while RPing, I just wanted to make sure you were okay with the art not showing the stuffed animal until later :]
