Hello all,
I'm seeking some second opinions because this has me a bit concerned.
I was scooping our girl's litter box and noticed what looked like a maggot crawling in it. It was white-ish, maybe a centimeter long. I obviously did a thoroughly cleaning of the box and changed out the litter etc etc.
My question is, should I take her in to get checked for worms? She had worms when we got her back in November, but we had her treated for them and I don't recall seeing anything in the box when she still had them. The vet even showed us the fecal sample and was like "look at these worms!" and they were so small I couldn't see them. This was MUCH larger.
I'm thinking it just is from the flies in our home. Our landlady keeps her dog's food in the garage right next to our front door, and sometimes a fly will get in. Last year we had a full on infestation, it was awful. It hasn't gotten that bad yet, but we've had one or two in our house every day for a while, and I imagine they'd be attracted to a dirty litter box for egg laying. Last year we did have a fly trap that started growing maggots.
I dunno. It has me concerned and I thought I'd ask and see if any more experienced cat parents had some input.

Sorry it's taken so long for you to get any sort of response, the guild's kind of borderline inactive lately.
Anyways, a vet visit may not hurt, just to be safe. Also really check the litter itself (the unused stuff), as I've heard of some people having issues with bringing home litter only to discover such. And the fly thing is a possibility as well. Make sure you're scooping the box daily and maybe look into repellants to keep the flies out of your place?

We actually just started a new bag of litter so if the litter was bag, the issue should be resolved now, though it's good to know that such things can happen. I haven't noticed anything like is again, so I'm thinking some flies just laid eggs in her box. We might just do some litter change overs more frequently while it's fly season.
Box gets scooped at least once a day, and we might just need to buy a fly trap like we had last year. The fly situation isn't nearly as bad, but it might not hurt (and might keep it from getting that bad again.)
