Mayumi grew up with a normal life. She had friends and was a student at the university. Her boyfriend had recently left her, causing Mayumi to pull back a bit, buying SAO in order to help distract her mind from the hurt. Finding herself in the game, she no longer had a way out, not knowing what to do anymore. She tried to level, but with most people, she was left behind, the low level monsters being taken out by beta testers and others that were on their way to the top. However, she still trained when she could, trying to find a few monsters to ensure that she could defend herself if needed.
