After a quick stint in DMs with Cami, Maebe had learned that she was open to seeing her, she was alone, and Otto was having an affair with the lighthouse.

She didn't know if she should be jealous, or worried about the state of his rear end.

Nevertheless, she was at Otto and Cami's door within ten minutes of the DMs, knocking before opening it and peering inside with just her head. "Are there any pretty little girls in here? I've got candy in my pockets.."

Somehow, that just didn't sound as creepy coming from her ultra feminine voice.

If Otto was having an affair with the lighthouse Cami was having one with the couch. It had become a veritable nest the way she'd been all but living on the thing while on physical restriction. She'd become almost a Death trainee the way they were having her fill out paperwork in her spare time and it was just exhausting and stupid. And boring.

And stupid.

Maebe's DM had lit up her phone and her eyes before the redhead remembered there was something off lately. Something she hadn't quite been able to but a finger (or fingers) on yet but it was a little frosty these days. Especially considering it was June. Several times she hesitated, trying to decide if it was worth potentially scaring the blonde away with mentioning she'd love to talk. It was amusing and/or sad (she hadn't decided) that you could more easily get someone to have sex with you than you could to talk.

Still, Cami's smile for Maebe was one laden with the feelings they both didn't much want to talk about because it was just a little too scary for one a little too strong for the other. "I don't know about little but I think I might be pretty enough for some sugar?" Oh lord this was saccharine. She loved every minute of it.

Maebe skipped through the door, then closed and locked it. If Otto needed back in, she figured he'd have the key - and anyone else walking in on her being vulnerable with someone was an unacceptable risk. She headed to the couch, sliding onto it like a snake until she was back at Cami's side again. She lifted Cami's arm around her shoulders, so that the girls hold was properly around Maebe's back without her having to technically lift a finger.

This put Maebe extremely close to Cami's face, which incited her to bend in and steal a kiss from her lips.

She pulled away, fluttered her eyelashes, and smiled a terribly smug smile.

"Hi."

Winter had thawed.

Winter had thawed indeed and Spring was like a baseball bat to the head. Otto would understand the feeling very well and though Cami had been on the receiving end of it a few times she wasn't normally whammied this hard by Maebe Grace Bertrand. One kiss turned into two and there wasn't a whole lot of room for talking for a few moments before Cami was convinced that the thaw had indeed been genuine. Or at least, genuine in intent if not in fact.

Grinning delightedly at her sweetheart she only removed her arm from around the beautiful Moon trainee to reach over towards the coffee table. "I have to show you these, I'm so excited, they're the coolest." Grabbing shutter shades that had a pattern on them not unlike a rising sun, the colors as blinding as Cami's personality, she slipped them on her face. "It's kinda amusing that it's a bit like a fan club initiation thing that Dylon's got going on but I can't say it's not amusing. Just as fun as he is." Leaning in she stole another kiss, quick and fleeting. "What color were yours?"

Maebe was all consuming heat, passion, wandering hands and unrestrained lips, until Cami pulled away and Maebe sucked in a much needed breath. She had no idea what Cami had stopped for, but the look on her face clearly said she didn't care, until she actually heard the name Dylon, and managed to focus on the shutter shades.

She'd already worked out these feelings with Otto. She had. She'd worked through them, and she was better now.

"Oh." Sliding away, she sat back on her own rear end, and placed her hands folded between her legs as Cami tried on the prize for sleeping with someone that wasn't her. "Right."

Just kidding. She totally wasn't over it.

"Pink." The pair of shutter shades were still very prominently displayed in her room, because she did like them, and she liked owning them. She just didn't need to be reminded that she was a hypocritical fool, at the very moment she'd been ready to resume relations and relationships with the woman she'd practically gift wrapped to Dylon. It was just one night, though. Dylon never held strings attached. He was amazing that way. Her first, on the island.

It felt good, to share that with Cami. And it felt bad. Very, very bad.

"I see he upgraded."

Winter returned with a frosty vengeance.

Sitting up herself somewhat, emerging from her delightfully comfortable nest of mismatched blankets that Otto seemed compelled to buy everywhere they went, Cami pushed the shades off her face and onto the top of her head. She wasn't stupid. Not in the slightest. Admittedly she'd been showing off the shades in excitement because it was a thing they could share, almost like browsing Tinder together which she thought the two of them would have mucho fun with when they hit an American city together. But when the mention of Dylon had turned the icy shoulder back on full blast it wasn't hard to make a leap of logic.

Eyes narrowed slightly. "Please tell me that despite helping me hook up with Dylon you are not pissed about it. Please tell me you did not help me hook up with Dylon when you knew you were going to be pissed about it. Please tell me that this has nothing to do with my assumptive leaps and you're going to just tell me you don't like the color orange against my skin because I'm just too black." Mild racism and cattiness was better than relationship drama in a relationship that wasn't quite...a relationship.

Go figure the second person she hooked up with on the island, the quick itch-scratcher, would piss off the only other one she'd gotten into bed with. Eyes narrowed slightly. "Are you pissed because it was me or because it was him?" This was going great. Really.

Maebe hissed, and ducked her head. She was busted, harder than she expected, and she looked unnaturally ashamed about it.

"I am not pissed about it." She started, trying to answer Cami's somewhat rhetorical questions in order. She could have just tried to explain herself, but no, she decided to just answer each question instead. "I did not know I was going to be pissed, and - and I'm not pissed. I actually don't like the color orange against your skin, but you're free to wear anything that makes you happy." It was here, her head ducked even further. "And do whatever you need to do, to make yourself happy. God knows I do."

And that was the core of the problem. If she could just be pissed, this would have been so much easier. But there was no ground for Maebe to stand on, and she knew it.

"I'm not-" Her head had jolted up when Cami said it again, but as soon as she met the girls eyes, she melted back into embarrassment. "-pissed. Okay. I'm not. I'm just." Her hand rubbed the back of her neck. "Jealous."

God, she felt so stupid.

"More to the point, I think I might be too selfish for - " The thought had cleared in her mind, at the exact moment she'd said it. She was too selfish to be in a relationship. She'd lived her entire life for her, and nothing but her. Now, she wanted everything. All to herself.

And that just wasn't how life worked.

"I'm not. Pissed." She had to repeat it, because it was the only thing she knew to be true. With a pathetic chuckle, she continued. "I'm glad it was Dylon. If it was going to be anyone, he was the best choice."

Absently Cami nodded at the mention of Dylon. "That's why I didn't think too much of it because it was Dylon and he's as casual as the best of them. He could've been balls-deep and I could have..." Pausing, realizing what she was saying, Cami shook her head. "Nice guy." Looking tentatively at the woman who was most certainly her girlfriend in the strangest turn of wonderful events possible, fingers started to tap against her own side. "Would it make you feel better to say I did it for the shades and because I was in a mood that I didn't wanna trouble you with?"

They were both sitting there for a moment one embarrassed and jealous, the other working through the fact that no one had really been jealous of her before. Selfish. Maebe had said she was too selfish. Lips slowly curved in a wicked little smile as cornflower met ultramarine, fingers sliding over and up a pale knee. "Maebe Grace," she purred, "do you mean to say you wanted to keep me all to yourself? You want me to be happy and you know that it's hypocritical but you're selfish, aren't you?" Smug now, the cat with the canary, Cami was the one sliding like a snake now. She was a veritable snake in the garden of Eden she was so smug and wicked-looking.

One finger reached up to twine a tendril of blonde hair around her finger, tugging lightly until Maebe's lips brushed against Cami's own. "I like it. Be selfish. Be jealous. Give me boundaries and limits, tie me up in red thread." Romantic? Oh absolutely. But it was thrilling in a way that she'd been waiting her whole life to experience. It was alright to be romantic about it.

Maebe snickered at the balls deep comment. She couldn't help it. Even in the face of jealousy, she found that funny.

But Cami's reasons didn't make her feel better, because Cami's reasons had nothing to do with how she felt. It was instinctive, and wrong, and she knew it. Mine, her selfish mind demanded. But Cami wasn't hers. Cami wasn't anyone's.

And just as she thought it, Cami started to tease her about exactly that. Her lips turned down in a thick pout, and she weakly tried to push Cami away. "Stop it," She muttered like a bratty child. She couldn't push Cami away enough to stop the kissing, because she really didn't want to.

"Nooo," Maebe whined against Cami's lips. "Don't say that. Don't tell me it's okay to be selfish with you, when you know full well me and Otto are - "

Maebe sucked in a breath, and then let it out slowly. It was dumb, so dumb, to get jealous over Cami. It wasn't even jealousy over her having sex with someone - she realized this as soon as she found it funny that Dylon might have been balls deep in her. She wasn't repulsed by the thought. She wasn't angered. It was hilarious.

But when she thought about Dylon kissing her, nagging feelings started to pull at her heart. This was hilariously stupid.

"Relationships are hard." She admitted, picking at her nails in annoyance.

Pulling back slightly when Maebe was serious about being cross Cami wound a curl of her own hair around her finger for a moment, listening and watching. "Selfish is alright. Possessive is not. You can't own me body and soul but if something makes you unhappy, Maebe baby, I want to know about it." Arms slid around the blonde's waist so that Cami could rest her forehead lightly against the younger woman's temple. "Otto's got a prior claim on you and, really, you make him happy. He makes you happy. But I'm selfish too, you know." Jealous was a good word and, really, Cami hadn't had much a reason to be jealous yet.

Scared? Yes, scared was a possibility. Scared that she was momentary and fleeting but it seemed that Maebe had genuine feelings else...why would she be so cranky about them? So damned ornery. Which to Cami was endearing simply because it was something she and maybe only Otto saw. It was Maebe's emotions that she was selfish about more than Maebe's body because, as she'd murmured in the strange white tower room, becoming a friend to her was much harder than becoming a lover.

"And yeah, it's hard. Especially when we're both kinda new at this whole thing." Color slipped into her cheeks for a moment in a blush. Cami? Blushing? "I haven't really had a real relationship before so I'm just sorta following my feelings and seeing what crops up." Teeth worried at her lip. "I missed you though. Please don't freeze me out because you're being jealous or selfish. Just talk to me. Please?" It was important.

"Do you get jealous," She'd mentioned Otto, and it was only fair she'd get the same question he had. "When I'm with Otto?"

She carefully eased away from the rest of Cami's comments, and focused on the last ones thoroughly. "I'll talk to you. I'm not trying to freeze you out, when I feel like this - I'm freezing myself out. I wasn't staying away from you, Cami. I was keeping myself away from you. Because you didn't deserve it."

But she knew that wasn't going to fly.

"I'd rather just not feel jealousy. But if I do, I suppose I can try to just tell you." She snorted quietly, shaking her head as the conversation mirrored the one she'd had with Otto not too long ago in so many ways. "It's kind of funny, and kind of stupid, that you and I are the ones who have no experience with relationships. And Otto's the god damned expert." Something about that just made her want to laugh.

Thinking about it Cami's shoulders rolled in a bit of a shrug. "I can't offer you the same things Otto can, I don't have the right equipment even with plug-and-play attachments. I don't respond to things the same way he does; I'm not grumpy in the slightest. I got jealous that time I came home and found you guys together, that day I crawled in with you two." A finger idly tapped against her opposite elbow, arms crossed over her breasts. "It's...ugh, you're going to hate this."

Tilting her head back to look at the ceiling Cami said it in a rush. "The intimacy. I like being close and knowing you like being close too. I'm jealous when you're with Otto like that and not me but if it's all three of us it's ok." Nails dug into her skin now. "And yeah, well, my one and only relationship was so one-sided I was apparently the only one who couldn't see it." And though she couldn't say this to Maebe it didn't stop the fact that sometimes Cami wanted to go on leave, hunt him down, and show him Kidana. Up close and personal.

She was, after all, Mimsy's blood in one way or another.

"Talking's good. I'm a big fan most of the time." Scooting closer again, venturing to sneak in another brief kiss, she smiled. Cami smiled because she didn't know if Otto had yet told Maebe about Cami's smiles and how they weren't always what they seemed. How she smiled sometimes even when she didn't want to smile because it was what she'd been taught to do. Be reassuring. Be happy. Be wonderful. One of those came naturally.

"We have other areas of expertise, though, that I don't think I'd trade."

Talking was good, she'd said. Maebe thought she was about to prove the girl wrong. So she talked.

"I don't hate it." She corrected, though she didn't sound very comfortable about it. "Because I understand. And I have to tell you something. You know how I feel about you. It would be ridiculous to try and deny it. But I'm pretty good with denial, and I've been doing it for a very long time. Not just with you."

Maebe put her fingers against Cami's reassuring smile, because she felt certain it would fade away soon enough. "I think I'm falling for Otto. Hard."

nesshime
PostPosted: Fri Jun 27, 2014 8:19 pm

Maebe was waiting for the smile to fade but if anything it got bigger. Bigger but more brittle, more fragile, like making glass from sugar. You had to stretch and stretch but if you stretched it too far it broke and was irreparable. Pulling back from the touch, ostensibly so she could talk, her voice was much the same -- Cami was never as good an actress as she wanted to be. As her mother had wanted her to be. "That's wonderful though!" And it was, it genuinely was.

The problem? Maebe was 'falling for' Otto 'hard'. Her feelings for Cami? Well Cami just knew them. Which yes, alright, she did know them or at least very much thought she did but it wasn't the same. So didn't that mean that Maebe's feelings for Otto were stronger? More well-defined? Of course Cami had encouraged Otto to put his heart into it and God if he hadn't seen results but that was what Otto did. So unassuming, so effective, making people love him just by being quiet and wonderful in all the best ways.

The sugar-spun smile trembled around the edges. Careful, so careful, but it was too late. Already it was like a pottery wheel spinning too fast as it spun out of control. The smile first started to deform as desperately the brown-skinned Sun tried to hold it. Oh it was so important for her and for Maebe to hold that smile and she couldn't. Cami was trying so hard to hold her smile that she didn't notice the tears that had leaked out until she tasted them. Felt the sting against her skin.

Shattered.

You get too attached, Camille. I'm going to tell you all this and you're going to thank me one day. The blanket was mashed into her face for a moment to stop the leak of tears before she lifted her head, then had to drop it again. She was going to be replaced. Shut out. And it hurt. Cami was happy for Maebe, happy for Otto, knew they could be so good for each other and were so perfectly suited to be partners. Yet she'd been hoping there was room for her too, as she loved them both, and was becoming less and less confident that was going to happen.

Shattered.

Wonderful was not the answer Maebe had been expecting.

Cami's expression, however, was more along the lines of where she thought this conversation was going to go. She trembled, and then tears traveled down those dark, beautiful cheeks. Maebe did not regret that she was making Cami cry, because the girl had asked for honesty, and the only thing honesty ever did for anyone is hurt them.

Maebe watched her slam her face into the blanket once, twice, and by the second time, Maebe had inched closer, until she was on her knees beside Cami. This made her higher, and she loomed dangerously over the girl, ripping the sheet away. She pushed, and Cami was lowered until she could trap the girl between two arms, staring up at the intensity on Maebe's face.

"I guess you don't get it. And here I thought you knew how I felt. I could have sworn you'd figured it out by now, with the way you've been treating me. Nobody is careless enough to love me if they don't already know that I love them back. That would be stupid, Cami."

Maebe's eyes narrowed. "You're not stupid, are you?"
