This is a recruitment/interest thread for a Viking Pack.
The owners of this pack are Shi Berry and Conrad the Mighty.
Our overseeing God is Odin, God of Loyalty. Known for his wisdom, Odin guides the Ulaya of this pack, promising wisdom, protection, strength, and safe passage into the afterlife in exchange for an Ulaya's loyalty. Odin's chief domain is loyalty, and he is the patron god of the Vikingar. His subdomain is wisdom, for Odin gave one of his eyes to the God of Wisdom in exchange for knowledge.

Ｏｕｒ x Ｓｔｏｒｙ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ The world is cold here. The ice reaches deep, settling comfortably in one's bones. A thick blanket of clouds hangs perpetually in the sky, and the sun rarely makes an appearance here. The creatures residing here know the place to be inhospitable, and prey has become scarcer and scarcer. Most Ulaya have long since abandoned these lands to follow the prey, yet few successfully navigated their way out of these fjords. The others who remain fiercely defend what small territories they have claimed for themselves, the frigid chill of the land driving them mad with the need for food and warmth. Between the large, shaggy beasts more acclimated to the frozen terrain and the vicious territorial brawls, the ever decreasing number of Ulaya who inhabit this land are divided, and, while they manage, there is very little hope for continued survival.
None understood the need for this continued suffering. They could not live here, but none could escape. The carcasses of those who either succumbed to ice or failed to flee the treacherous cold had become an all too common sight. It was hard to live here in this unforgiving land. Many prayed, yet prayers were never answered. The gods had abandoned these Ulaya here.
Head Seer, like most, had lost faith in any god coming to the aid of the forsaken Ulaya here. Many had come to him for guidance and help, believing that a seer, someone with more divine powers, would either have answers or be able to plead for assistance from the gods. However, he only thing s/he was able to do was tell the Ulaya about the grim future ahead.
Until one day...
A raven came in the night, perched on a tree by Head Seer's cave. S/he was woken by the bird's caws, but was not angered with the bird, rather drawn to it. He could feel his head throb as he approached the raven, and he found it was increasingly difficult to focus on the bird. His vision blurred, then flashed, and he saw the face of an elder Ulaya with grand horns and deep scars, his single, blue eye casting a crippling gaze on the seer. "Head Seer, find the Earl," the voice commanded. With that, the vision continued, and he saw a prospering society of united Ulaya adorned with metals, jewels, and furs. He watched these Ulaya go to battle to defend their lands, unafraid of death. These Ulaya successfully found a way out of the labyrinth of fjords despite the seemingly ever overcast sky. They were a triumphant group, conquering this land of ice, along with other lands out there.
Heaving a deep breath as the vision ended, s/he looked up at the raven as it gazed intently down at him. "I will, my lord," he stated, and immediately set out on his quest to find the Earl of whom this being spoke. It was an important task to find this Earl, along with other Ulaya to unite under the rule of this being. This god, Odin. ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

For now, this pack resides in the Northern Regions, in the very far north in the mountains and fjords. It is very cold, and always overcast. The other animals inhabiting this land include deer, elk, foxes, bears, mice, hare, boar, owls, and ravens. Think animals that live in Scandanavia, Alaska, and the Northern area of Canada, for lack of a better description.
Eventually, the Vikingar will have a Clan in each of the four regions, Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western. The main kingdom will be located in the Isle Center, where the King will reside.

Ｃｕｌｔｕｒｅ ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀ ＲｅｌｉｇｉｏｎThe Vikingar worship Odin, God of Loyalty. He rules over the Vikingar, with the subdomain of Wisdom. While he does not have any rule over the domain of wisdom, Odin sacrificed one of his eyes to the God of Wisdom in exchange for knowledge. Odin guides the Ulaya of this pack, promising wisdom, protection, strength, and safe passage into the afterlife in exchange for an Ulaya's loyalty. The afterlife is known as Valhalla [Hall of the Slain] is another plain of existence, full of any pleasure the mind can imagine, from easy females to dearly departed loved ones. If you fall from the grace of the gods, hope you redeem yourself before horrible fortune falls upon you.
Odin does not directly rule over the pack, rather, the King and Seers listen to his word and pass it on to the clans of the pack. Offerings are made to him to prove the pack's continued loyalty to him. ＲａｉｄｓOnce a clan is established, the Earl presiding over the clan may ask the King permission to raid a neighboring kingdom, clan, or region. Every eligible warrior may participate, and they may keep a portion of what they bring home. A raid is not a way to collect wealth, but for the glory of the Clan. Ｂｅｃｏｍｉｎｇ x ａ x ＶｉｋｉｎｇｒWhen an Ulaya wants to become a Vikingr, he must meet with the Earl of the Clan [or the King in the Isle Center] and display his worth. If he achieves this goal, he will receive an arm ring on which he swears fealty to the Earl. Each clan will have its own specific arm ring in order to identify which clan the warrior calls his home. Young Ulaya coming of age will be taken to a clan meeting where they, too, may receive arm rings and will henceforth be considered adults in the eyes of the pack. ＴａｔｔｏｏｓTattoos represent achieved accolades, bloodlines, or ranks. Tattoos will be Celtic/Nordic in design usually depicting things from mythology or nature, such as the two wolf sons of the monstrous wolf Fenrisúlfr, Sköll and Hati, who will devour the sun and moon respectively at Ragnarok when their father breaks his bounds and devours Odin or animals found in the lands. Examples to come. Ｓｅｘｕａｌｉｔｙ x ａｎｄ x ＭａｒｒｉａｇｅLove is celebrated as love, no matter the gender. The boundaries of proper sexual conduct were very wide. Marriage is both a bond between Ulaya and a method of forming alliances. Often between ruling families, marriages are arranged to strengthen the bonds between clans. Marriage is also a way to regulate breeding partners of Ulaya, not that promiscuity is frowned upon, but it is a way to make sure Ulaya are not simply repopulating uncontrollably [Ulaya's don't have birth control!]. There's also no limit to the amount of people that may enter into the bond of marriage. It's a promise, sworn to Odin. Cheating is the only action frowned upon. ＧｅｎｄｅｒBoth genders are respected for their individual strengths. While females are known to be more compassionate, that does not mean they are not a force to be reckoned with. They would die honorably or save a male's life in a heartbeat. They can be underestimated, therefore an unique tool during times of violence. Males are known to be predators while females are more protectors. ＯｕｔｓｉｄｅｒｓOutsiders are regarded with suspicion. Though they are not greeted with hostility unless they provoke the Vikingar, they are not originally trusted and must meet with the Earl of the region immediately. After, they are usually welcomed to stay for a short period of time, then expelled unless they join the Vikingar.
As far as other cultures, religions, or ways of life, the Vikingar view them with pity and confusion. When the gods abandoned the Ulaya of the Northern Realm, only Odin answered their prayers. Only Odin can be trusted, though there are some Vikingr in existence who are eager to learn of other cultures and gods, as Odin valued wisdom and it is always wise to learn. More to come...Please note that due to the lack of any written records from the Viking Age, we have very little idea as to how they actually viewed many of these topics. We are simply going off of what little information we have. We also have to make Viking culture suitable for the Jokoa` Realm as well as dodge some other issues to be more 'politically correct' if you will, so we have made some tweaks here and there so it fits. For example, Odin is supposed to be the God of Gods in Norse mythology, however, we can't have him be the God of Gods in the Jokoa` Realm. Hence, he rules over the Vikings and controls the domain of loyalty. As for 'political correctness,' males were more valued in Viking culture, but, so we do not start any fights here, we are making both genders equally valued.
If you know of any discrepancies in our research, please let us know so we can see if we can add it in for this to be more accurate!
For those curious, in our research we discovered the Old Norse word for 'viking,' víkingr. The plural form is víkingar.
Also, please exercise common sense when RPing a Viking Ulaya. Gaia is still a PG-13 site, so no RPing excessive violence, sex, or the like on Gaia. Please take it off-site! ▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀

The pack originates in the Northern Region of the Jokoa` Realm. However, due to the pack's expanding nature, they will eventually settle in all the regions of the Realm. As such, this clan is split but united. A King rules over the pack, the alpha if you will. He rules over the entirety of the pack, residing in the Isle Center. Four other clans exist in the four other regions of the Realm, one clan per region. These clans are ruled by Earls who rule over their respective clans, however their loyalty is to the King of the Vikingar.
Each clan has a single seer who tells of the pack's future and the Ulaya who are a part of it. These seers can communicate with Odin himself should they pray to him for his guidance, but, for the most part, Odin communicates with the seers through visions. The Head Seer, Head Seer, who lives in the Isle Center alongside the King. When the clans come together for festivals celebrating Odin, the seers all gather together to lead the festivities. The resident seer of each clan is also the head healer for the clan.
The other clan ranks are as follow: Warriors and Carers.
Warriors make up the majority of the pack, and every warrior has a task he performs while at home. For example, some warriors are hunters while other are scouts. Some are healers, others are guardians. All warriors are more than brutes who go out and raid; everyone needs to work together to survive.
Carers are the ones who tend to the children of the tribe, teaching them about Odin, necessary survival skills, and other tasks to benefit the Vikingar. Only a couple exist in a clan, one of whom is a retired warrior to train the children to be warriors themselves.
For now, the Northern Region [clan name to come] is the only clan in existence for in the Vikingar. We are just starting out!

Right now, there are two ways to obtain a Vikingr. You can either have an existing Ulaya join this pack, or you can quest for a custom character to join the Vikingar. We are only looking for Ulaya to join the clan in the Northern Region, as the other clans do not exist yet. We are solely looking for warriors and carers as of right now.
For existing Ulaya, simply post the Ulaya you wish to have join the Vikingar here with which position you believe he or she will best fit into, either warrior or carer. If placing an Ulaya into the warrior rank, please also indicate whatever day job your Ulaya would take on [hunting, scouting, fishing, gathering/foraging, guardianship, teaching, et cetera]. All warriors need a day job. They are not always fighting, after all~ Once your Ulaya is approved, he or she will be added to our list!
For custom character quests, post a custom form in this thread. Please make sure to also state which position your quest Ulaya would take on in the clan [either warrior or carer, again]. While it is not necessary, I would appreciate it if your quest Ulaya stayed in the Viking theme [hair –both on the head and face–, pale skin, furs, metal armor, celtic/nordic tattoos all that good stuff].
I, Shi Berry, will personally fund all custom character quests who wish to join the Vikingar.
All Vikingar will bear an arm ring specific to the clan to which the Vikingr swears fealty [the Northern Region will have a different arm ring design than the Southern Region, et cetera]. As of right now, since only one clan exists, only one arm ring design exists [design to come]. Other edits may be added in the future.

A single Earl presides over one of the four clans in the four separate regions of the Jokoa` Realm. They are loyal to the King of the Vikingar, and report to him frequently. If the Vikingar was a country, think of the Isle Center as the capital, the four clans as states. Earls are governors of their states, and the King as the president of the entire country.
We are currently looking for two potential Earls to rule over the clans in two respective regions! As far as how this would work goes, these potential Earls will be members of the clan in the Northern Region, probably warriors. When the Vikingar expands and begins settling the other areas of the Realm, these two Earls will be left in charge of their own clans in separate regions!
In order to obtain an Earl, please post either an existing Ulaya or a custom as you would to simply have an Ulaya join the Vikingar, but also include a personality blurb and explain why this Ulaya would be a good Earl for the Vikingar. How would he rule? What are his dreams? What does he see for the future of his clan?
Earls will get their own special edits displaying their status as well as their loyalty to the King and the Vikingar as a whole. ＳｅｅｒｓWe will be needing one seer per clan.
