This part of the beach wasn't too bad: nothing horrendous had washed up on shore, no rocks to break boxes and send goodies scattered into the sand, and no monsters threatening in the distance. It wasn't exactly the beautiful image pictured in travel catalogues, but it still held a certain beauty -- and novelty, to a kid raised in Montana whose only beach exposure before had been Bryton. So he sat in the sand, for maybe the first time, with new boots settled next to him and the cuffs of his pants rolled up almost to his knees, his feet still wet from a brief adventure out into the shallows. Maybe this wasn't the clean waters of Jamaica, or Costa Rica, or wherever the rich people went for whitewashed adventures in the caribbean, but it was still tropical. Bermuda. So he watched the water, arms tangled around bony knees, damp and tousled, and couldn't help but smiling out at the water. Ever was still new enough for it to be novel.

It was always tempting to buy a surf board while he was on leave and his last hadn't been an exception. But Milo returned from his two days away without one yet again, mostly from not finding just the right type he would want but also just a lot of reasons that Ever realized just by looking at the water. What a shame it would be to buy something so awesome and get it trashed by some creature of the deep. Totally would need a really good one, though it was tempting to turn that runic piece of wood into one instead of his door.
The haul had just been his usual of Japanese snacks, a few toku magazines, necessities and one obnoxious printed Hawaiian shirt. Which was being worn now (with a simple shirt underneath and some long shorts) as he too decided to trudge to the beach, magazine under his arm and a few of the snacks in a bag. Something he did from time to time when the weather wasn't gnarly, revived from what he did back home before his small stint in California and then also without company from time to time - rarer here though and this time seemed an exception. Because a head of white hair came into view and a body and a pair of boots beside it.
Of course wasn't a bad thing though, Milo in fact smiled brightly as he called out with a friendly, "Aa, dude, hey!" In Ever's direction.

There was a lag: a pause before Ever's head turned, his expression baffled, like he couldn't believe the idea that someone else possibly was on the beach. He'd been lost in thought, perhaps, or staring at the waves. And it took him a bit to shake back into himself, to come into focus and recognize the young man waving at him as another hunter in a white coat --- Ever rolled up to stand, slowly, sand catching in the cuffs of his pants and tumbling in a fine mist around him. He swiped one hand through his hair and then waved back, only slightly befuddled by strangers greeting him so cheerily. So many people on the island seemed full of morose scowls. "...hi?" The hesitance was a familiar one for those who went to big parties full of vague acquaintances. It meant do I know you?.

He was completely unfazed by that long pause and the confused sounding greeting, it happened from time to time, in fact Milo used the time that the other Hunter took to get himself up to close the distance between the two of them. "Howzit?" He returned the wave, a little short and curt than he would have liked because of the bundle under his arm.
An unfamiliar face, he realized upon closer inspection - at first he thought the white hair might have belonged to Bix but that didn't seem to be the case. Still, though, didn't mean he was going to stop being friendly. Milo jostled the magazines out from under his arm and neatly stuffed them into the bag in his other hand - they were obviously a little too big for the bag, but this was a temporary solution. "Hiya, 'm Milo." He greeted, holding out his now free hand. "New here?" Or back from a mission, either way. New face.
"Choice spot you found here."

"Uh. Ever." He'd shake, at least, and it wasn't too horrendously awkward: not comfortable, or easy, or practiced, but he didn't flinch, and he made at least some effort to curl his hand in around Milo's. Thoughtlessly, he looked away, taking in a sweeping look of the shore and the sand and the waves beating in, and he couldn't help but smile. With no bodies, it was rather pretty. "I've been here a month I guess, but this is my first time down here, you know?" And then he hesitated, thinking. "Or staying, at least. I poked around in the sand a few times, dug up crumbling pieces of trash..." He shook his head, finally looking back to Milo.

There seemed to be something with the handshake but Milo didn't think much else of it, Ever had completed the gesture and hey, that was all that mattered. Couldn't help to have his eyes follow where the other Hunter's wandered off to, even if he was the one to point it out. Habit perhaps.
"Oh, you've been doin' that too?" He had to laugh a little as he pulled his hand back to rustle in his hair - shorter, he still wasn't used to it yet. "Got a stock pile of soap, it's kinda awesome, ya?" Not to mention a big piece of wood, but eh. His luck in the sand digging hadn't been as fruitful as some he had heard, but it was still fun and allowed him to explore the beaches and see which ones weren't so bad - or at least less monster-y.
"So, a month." Milo hummed thoughtfully as he pulled his magazines from the bag again least to make the weight make it all tumble out. "You get thrown into anything interestin' yet?"

Ever had to blink back into focus, considering Milo like he wasn't sure if that was a joke or not. Really, he just assumed that everyone had ended up in the dessert, struggling to remember death, fighting against creatures far larger than themselves. Already his memories of the place were muddled with the dreams he'd had since, so he had to lick his lips and try to pick out the truth from his imagination. "...the tower in the dessert, just that. And then leave, in New York, which was a great ******** relief, let me tell you." He shook his head, hand taken back to root in his pocket. "Sleep in a real bed..."

"Aa, went there too, ya?" The slight affliction in his voice that was usually there, one of happiness and mirth, had vanished from that question. It was bland, matter of fact, almost sympathetic. Because, oh did he know what had happened there all right - even had the lovely nightmare afterwards and had to talk about it. Not so much fun. And usually he could get past those sort of things with his dorky behavior and usual aloof nature.
Urg, he was thinking about it. Milo shook his head and pressed his smile back on. "Took a trip off island too," the Sun went on, almost back to full steam. "Kinda chose at random, but hey found what I usually look for." The magazine was held up for a quick motion before he gestured with it to the bag in the other.
"Want somethin'? I tend to get a few extra, and gave it a jiggle; a few bags, a few boxes and some rolled up things could be seen. A lot of bright colors, even some familiar in the logo but not in flavor. "Cracker stuff, chips, kit kats, fruit snacks..." he rattled off.

That made Ever blink, leaning in to look at the assortment of goodies Milo was toting around with him -- and he, at least, had already put thoughts of the tower aside. He didn't want to talk about it, or think about it; off-island travels were much more pleasant to consider. And so he'd poke at the candy and look, just faintly, bemused. Shaking his head a bit. "You went on break, and this is what you brought back?" It was teasing, but lightly so, his eyes flicking up to Milo's face. "I'm alright."

Milo was totally alright with the topic of the tower not being brought up again, so he didn't mention anything about it either. Instead went rifling through the bag himself as best he could, pulling out a a small bag of Kamen Rider Gaim fruit snacks.*
"Sorry, brah. Couldn't find the more designer stuff this time around," he grinned, catching the tone. Though, in all seriousness, he mostly just found himself a small Japanese marketplace this time around and had no means of procuring anymore of his nerdy little toys.
First snack out of the bag, he promptly set the rest of it beside him on the ground before he found himself a spot upon the sand. He glanced up at Ever and made a nod for him to sit down, if he wanted, and began to pop a few gummi snacks in his mouth. The magazine was forgotten for now in favor of good conversation. "Was New York good? Never been myself. Got anything besides a good night's sleep?"[* I swear to god, if these don't exist there is something wrong with the Toei marketing department.]

There was a pause -- five seconds in which Ever considered saying Far Too Much about his leave -- and then he shrugged, quirking a smile instead. He nodded down to the pack as he sank down to sit next to Milo. Wiser to keep things light with relative strangers. Sometimes he had common sense. "I didn't get weird gelatin snacks, but I got enough alcohol and cigarettes to last me a while." He dropped his boots next to him, toes curling absently into the sand, and looped arms over his knees. "At least long enough to last me until the next day off. Assuming I don't end up trading half of it away, or repaying debts..." He shook his head a little, attention resettling on Milo. Assessing. "I should probably save up for a new bed. Can I do that? Is it even possible to get a bed here? I mean, what are the chances that it would even fit through the portal...?"

"Pretty sure there are ways to get those if you ever run out, ya," Milo cocked a smile towards his sitting companion, glad that he was going to have the company at all. Yeah, he was pretty pleased that Ever accepted his invitation to sit down, maybe he'd take a snack at some point. The bag was open and all. "Seems like booze and stuff are the easiest things to come by, El Presidente seems to get a nice stock of it." Not like his nerdy little vices, not as common unless you were Allan taichou.
"But aa, beds?" The Sun took a break from his snack eating to scratch at his cheek, "Don't see why not, ya? If you can carry it," he laughed, "though doesn't hurt to raid some of the supply closets, ya know? Or work hard and promote to get to the higher rooms." Milo added with a small matter of fact nod. Not that he was there yet. Soon though. He was already at least a step closer.and be blue sorry, comic con happened

"I don't need a bigger room, although out of the basement would be great." He shook his head, eyeing the snacks again: and Milo's premonition, if it were that, would prove true. He'd grab something strange and familiar mostly to have something to do with his hands, to turn it over and study unfamiliar ingredients and, eventually, crack it open to see what was inside. One was enough, popped into his mouth, chewing slowly, for Ever to decide it wasn't his cup of tea. But he'd hold onto the little bag anyway. It was only polite, since Milo had been kind enough to offer. "How long have you been here?" The question came to him slowly, as he realized this should be more than a one-sided kind of thing. "How long does it usually take?"

And there went the snacks, Milo simply made note of the action and had a little interest in what Ever had actually taken from his pile - maybe for future reference or something but for the most part to see what he wouldn't be able to claim when he stuck his own hand in to grab for something else to eat. He grabbed one of the many flavors of kit kat bars that were known in Japan.
"Not so bad when you get used to it, ya," the Sun shrugged as he broke open the wrapper and one of the sticks in half. Although, "a larger room would be kinda cool, ya? Though, I think if I managed to get my toku collection as amazing as the one I had at home." He frowned at the thought, knowing full well the difficulty in that unless he broke into his old house or something.
He sighed at the thought and Ever's following question, idly playing with the wrapper. Making him think more about it. "Haven't seen it in over a year. Or, I dunno... been awake for over a year, not sure how long I've been in that pod, ya? Never asked." Maybe should. "But I just promoted to an intermediate, ya. Think its differen' for ever'one, some people promote faster than others I imagine. Sometimes you just get the call." Or text, or the text meant for someone else.and be blue finally, after the days of comic con and gishwhes, a tag

"So just sit around and wait to see what happens, and otherwise do whatever they tell you." It was dry, but he was more amused than he was annoyed -- offering the bag of gummies back to Milo because there was no way he was eating any more of those. Maybe someone else would enjoy them more. Ever simply wasn't much on sweets anyway, especially not sweets that had a faintly plastic vibe to them. He twitched a smile and shook it to make sure Milo would take it. "Is there somewhere you can actually swim around here? I've heard stories about tentacles that pull you under." He shifted as he said it: not quite standing, but preparing.
