Concetta could be the epitome of laziness when it came to menial tasks. She preferred to get one of her minions; her girlfriends, or doting boys, to do simple tasks for her but most didn't realize the hollowness of the woman. They didn't quite grasp just how uncaring she was or unfeeling she was and so when it came time for the dirty deeds to be done, she'd learned to be rather adept at doing them herself. It was a long practiced skill from her childhood. She'd break into things and say she found them like that, she'd steal something and say her friend told her to do it. She'd turn on the water works and blubber a bit and most madults, hating to see a sweet girl cry, would just poo poo and send her away. By the time they'd caught on, she'd already had her daddy on her side and that was generally the end of it.

This of course meant that after hearing of Rin's death Cee began to scope out her room. A week was good right? Wasn't it going to waste? In her defense it wasn't all about the recently deceased. There were other rooms, promotions, moving spouses, and all were worth looking at. First she had to figure out which it was (but she had a list now, of all the rooms that would soon be empty). It was easy enough to ask around and since she'd been borrowing Taym's room it only took a day or two to figure who slept where and then ask a few questions as a 'concerned trainee wanting to pay her respects'.

With the room successfully identified the rest was easy peasy. Cee had been hobbling around in a cast a few days too long. There were a few life hunters already trying to get her back to the labs to be officially given a clean bill of health but she'd been avoiding them in her efforts to milk this for all it was worth. The cast was also pretty handy for hiding a screwdriver. The process was slow in trying not to get caught but when she was focused the woman was surprisingly capable. One screw before breakfast, another after her pod duty, and the last few in the silent still moments of early afternoon when most were well into their day's activities.

The knob and lock fell off completely, the screwdriver was safely hidden again and the dorm door cracked open to still darkness. Cee grinned triumphantly and stepped inside to find the perfectly preserved tomb of a dorm, a monument still untouched, and the concisely summarized life of someone she'd never known.

Her's for the picking.

When a hunter died, a room was now considered a hovering vacancy, and had up to nearly a month depending on the rate of incoming hunters to be cleared. The information he was given, being the closet thing Rin had to a loved one, he was given the heavy burden of taking all of her things. Usually this would mean he would be sorting through her things and then selecting what would be given to who depending on Rin's wishes, but the idea of giving anything of Rin's away was the same as throwing her things out without permission. He could imagine the conversation of her returning and becoming upset that he just threw her things in the garbage, which he would be too if someone had done the same.

Since he didn't often stay at Rin's room, he wasn't even sure how much stuff she had, and he only had the standard issued dorm room to fit both of their things. They had already discussed moving in together once one of them upgraded, but now he had to wait till that happened. Things would be cramped for a while, but once he got a larger room, it would leave Rin with her own space for her things.

Since he needed boxes, he had to check her room to see how many he would need. Everything would be stored, and once he went on leave, he would make sure to spent a good portion of his paycheck on vacuum sealed storage bags in order to preserve everything in the same condition they were currently . Everything had to be kept locked just as how they had been. In the time and place where they woke up together just before the alarm went off to signal for the mission where they had left their rooms together but didn't return in the same way. Frozen in time to allow Rin to have everything just as how it had been in that moment in time where she left the island – and hadn't returned. He said hadn't because the body that had been brought back had been a body. Rin was still out there.

In wasn't unusual to have doors open once in a while in the hallways as people sometimes left their rooms open for friends or to run off down the hallways to get something to eat. It was one thing however when you had a focus on one room in particular, and when Melvin saw the ajar door, he stopped in the hallway, stunned.

His heartbeat picked up, and he took deep breathes in hopes of calming himself. The light was on from the open door, and he slowly approached expecting to make out the silhouette of a body who's curves he was intimately familiar with and to make out the slight scent of her shampoo.

As he made his way to the door, he turned inside, searching the room as he whispered "Ri-" and choked back the name as he saw a stranger standing there.

Cee had no idea what Rin had looked like or the kind of girl she was. All she'd done was turn on the light and bask for a moment. She dragged her eyes over the collection of belongings all left where Rin or Melvin had put them. It was almost like a puzzle, taking all these pieces of a person and putting them together to try and imagine what they had been like. There was no reverence for the being though, to Cee this was as academic as she got. The extent of her mental exercise was the enjoyment of imagining this dead woman and what things she liked, what style she had and what beauty products she'd enjoyed.

When Melvin's voice interrupted the silence, she spun guiltily with a look of shock and innocence plastered on her face. "Oh my gahd!" She clasped her chest in surprised, "You scared me jeezus."

Melvin's face only registered because of his icon on twitter and then she put on a sympathetic expression, "Oh.. oh are you Melvin? I'm so sorry." Her hands shot up though, displaying her innocence. "I swear I didn't touch nothin. I seen the door jimmied open so I just peeked in. It was jus' so still'n nice in here."

To her credit, she hadn't touched a single thing.

Hands to yourself, Melvin. :C

Rin's room was immaculate. She had always been clean, but not with the fine eye for detail that Melvin's entire life was built to point out. Instead, Rin had focused on organization. All her things were neatly stored, organized in different categories on her own system, be it numerical, alphabetical, or by color and size. He had taken some delight in picking out how she arranged things, and even his own room hadn't been an exception to her using her skills to organize his things. For him, as long as things were clean and neat, the organization wasn't as important. To her, it had been. It was this trait that he silently enjoyed and it made their relationship easier and his own debilitating quirks more manageable.

Her room was still neatly organized, as if she had planned that Melvin would need to come here and pack them away. It meant he really didn't have to sort through a mess, and everything had their own containers and labels to clearly state what was inside. This was here, this was this, and this belonged here. It was something he would have to try and memorize when boxing her things up in order to unpack once he moved to a larger room. He had to immortalize this system.

Of all the things neatly packed where they belonged, those that didn't stood out more vividly. He stared at this woman who first looked startled, almost as if caught, but then brushed off any appearance of guilt by explaining what she was doing here. She had been quick to give an explanation, because anyone would ask why the hell they were doing here in someone else's room in the first place.

That didn't mean he wasn't angry. Now without the fluttering in his chest and more somber by the crushing blow of crushed hope that she had returned, Melvin inspected his surroundings. By the door, he grabbed it and leaned back a moment to inspect the broken lock. No screws and no screws on the ground. Someone had broken in, and they hid the screws to hide what they were up to.

If they broke in – they must have wanted something. With Rin's things all packed away, it would be easy to find. Jewelry? Rin didn't own any aside from what Melvin gave her, and he released the door to walk past the girl and over to Rin's nightstand. Rin had never been much of a girly-girl, something he tried to help spur in her little by little, and he opened her dresser to see that all her things were there. They hadn't robbed that. Was it something else? What did they need from here – and what was it that needed to be taken before Melvin saw it?
He would need security to see. Who had broken in?

His blood started to boil, and he felt his throat constrict at the idea. He didn't know who it was, and unfortunately for the woman here, there was only one guilty party standing. Her being in here was enough for him to whip his attention back upon her. "You saw her room was broken into and you broke in to because you wanted a nice, quiet place?" He asked, not really needing an answer.

"Do you even know who's room this is? IT's not YOU room. Why didn't you contact me if you know who I am? Huh?" He moved to her, and not trusting her, he glanced at her body to see if she had any pockets. Anything that could be holding something.

If she broken in, maybe she was here to take something Rin had. Something she needed. Something she didn't want Melvin to see.

He grabbed her arm, and with the other moved to check her pockets.

Cee didn't have the panic of the unpracticed guilty. She didn't even have the guilt really. It was completely lacking from her own mind even though the reality was that she did do it. It was just a thing she'd done that, in her mind, couldn't hurt anyone. But life had taught her that most didn't view things they same way she did so Concetta stuck with confident denial.

"Well I know who's room it is when you walk in callin her name. But it's like clearly a chicks room." Her eyes widened as if it was obvious. Dude's rooms stank. "I mean the names on a lotta tongues aroun'here but I swear!" Even as he reached for her arm she kept them innocently raised. Her pockets were tiny decorative slivers in the cutoff jean shorts she wore and the woman didn't even have a purse, just her cell phone sticking obviously from between her ample breasts, shown without shame.

"Yo yo... you ain't needa be grippin me up.. I told you I ain't touched anything!" Cee then lifted her voice. It wasn't a panic, but the kind of shriek that she afforded anyone who attempted such a thing without her permission. It was the expected reaction from a woman like Cee, someone who would try to sue you on the street for looking at her the wrong way.

"People round here leave their doors open alla time! Cause ya know... SOCIALIZIN. I'm the kinda girl who's inta new friends. Wasn't till I really looked that I seen the jimmied knob.. JEEZUS!" She twisted it, played herself the victim of circumstance, and would defend that until the end of the earth.

"DAYUM." She refused to let him touch her, wrenching away. "You think you can ******** frisk a chick fer just standin in a room? I like.. LITERALLY had been here like a second before you came. You think I got her lipstick or something stuffed in my cooter? Jeezus. You goin for a cavity search?" Cee placed her hands on her hips with a huff but eventually cooled.

"Listen I ain't gonna steal nothin." Her voice had softened. "I can help ya if you want? See if shits missin or.. I dunno I ain't a detective. Look for clues?" She thumbed into the hall, "I could ask around..."

She had nothing and even if she wanted to take something, she didn't have anywhere to put it. Not a purse, not a bag, and not even workable pockets. However, her just being here made her guilty, and it enraged him to no end that she felt that being in Rin's room was an okay thing. Not in the least. No one touched this place. It had to be perfectly preserved, and her body just being here left evidence of itself in a microscopic level. This girl was not Rin's friend, Rin would not invite her here if she didn't know here, and for that reason she was a stranger, a interloper, that had come into Rin's room and violated it with her body. She was breathing in the air Rin had, standing where Rin had and trailing in whatever dirt her disgusting feet had brought in here, and her body was mingling in with the smell of Rin that he was trying to keep preserved. If anything was off, even changed in any way because of this girl, then he would not stand for it.

"What?" He snapped flicking her hand free as he glared at her. "You don't LIKE me trespassing on your space? Really goes against the grain, doesn't it? You don't seem to have a goddamn problem with doing it yourself, so I'm just going to walk in and do the same thing too." He said, twisting logic to suit his fancy and looking about before snapping his attention back at her.

What was taken? Who else had come here and smeared their presence on Rin's room?

"I don't NEED your help. You saw the door was jimmied and you still stayed? So you didn't know yet you still decided just to hang around here? This isn't your room. Rin isn't your friend. Rin doesn't know you so you didn't ask permission to be here." His voice was rising in volume as he waged a finger at her. "You should have never even walked in here."

Cee's head drew back on her neck, the sort of disbelieving wide eyed expression that usually preceded the kind of bitchy outburst found on an episode of Bad Girls Club. Melvin just kept going and it slightly took the wind out of her sails. She knew he'd flip if he found her. She could tell from his reactions on twitter but the woman was hardly empathetic and hadn't felt a moment of grief in her entire life. Still, her bodily prep for an outburst sort of slowly burned away. She was smart enough to tell when she was digging her own hole so she didn't bother starting it.

"Aight.. It's cool. I didn't touch nothin. So it coulda been me, standin here doin nothin... or it coulda been one'a them scavengin scumbags roamin this joint." Her arms now crossed in natural defense, as anyone in the same situation may do. "They take anythin! Someone even wanted the torture rack outta Ever's room." Socializing was easy. Talking was easy. Words met with heightened emotion often were the best combination to steer things the way Cee wanted.

Melvin was moving about, trying to remember. Trying hard to pick out something out of place. Something dirtied or turned slightly off its straight rows. He was no detective and he didn't possess the sort of photographic memory that made hit tv shows. Instead, he just frantically looked around, and felt more and more aggravated that this girl was still here.

"You're point?!" He said, glaring over at her as he stopped moving to turn to look at her. He couldn't figure out what was taken, why someone had busted in, and he felt the crushing blow of guilt in the pit of his stomach that he had let Rin down. That he had allowed someone to go into her room and take her things during his watch. He hadn't protected her, and now he couldn't even protect inanimate objects. If he had been born a dog, he would have been taken out back and shot. He should be now. What if it was something precious to her? What if it was something vital to her? What if it was a treasure he had yet to find? Everything in this room was important, and one thing missing meant it was incomplete. It was gone.

Gone.

He had to bring it all back. Each piece.

His hands clenched and uncleaned beside him, eyes darting about as he tried to think. Who was it? Who went in Rin's room?

She wanted to say 'it could be worse' but from his perspective, could it? Worse was relative. Her room could have been stripped or ransacked, but was that worse when compared to the fact that she was dead? Cee couldn't connect with the feelings but she knew from observation how extreme people behaved, their drastic mood swings and crazy motivations.

"No point I guess.." She pursed her lips and crossed her arms a bit. In silence she watched Melvin searching manically. She knew for a fact that nothing had been moved or touched. She'd not removed a thing. But would he understand that? Or would he endlessly search for some tiny detail that he'd never find because it didn't exist? Would he convince himself that something was missing that he couldn't remember?

The effect of her little exercise in breaking and entering had been a noticeable one and Cee was secretly reveling in Melvin's crazed misery. Just as she'd been enjoying Rin's empty room, the objects that made up the sum of someone's life, she now enjoyed seeing how doing almost nothing at all could upend someone else's sanity.

"Well.. if you don'need no help.." Cee sighed a bit. "I'll leave ya be."

She was about to leave, and he felt a unexplained panic in letting her go. Somehow, letting her leave meant he might be missing an opportunity to set things right. To find out something or to reverse the damage done to Rin's room - which he could not see as of yet.

He moved to the door and looked at her, arms out against the frame. "You didn't see anyone? Not a single person around this door?" He had to be sure to get whatever information he could. To find out who broke into Rin's room. To find out who took something.

And when he found that person...

..Melvin? Saliva stirred.

"Nuttin I swear." She backed up only a step, poking the forgotten knob with her good foot. "Jus the knob on the floor and the door was open." She rolled the knob over under her shoe and looked around.

"Oh look the screws are here I think." Indeed they were not missing but just scattered in the thin, threadbare hall carpet. Seems they'd rolled into the crack where floor met wall.

"Maybe they were comin back for a bag'r somethin." She looked up and down the hall. "Or maybe they din't want nothin." She could do this all day, really.

And that was all. He had nothing to keep her here. She had come in, but had nothing on her. She had nothing on her that showed she was here to take anything or had committed a crime. Still, she was here, and he felt angry at her presence and that she had nothing. Angry that she gave him nothing instead of the frustration that he couldn't protect Rin's belongings.

He hated himself - more and more, he hated himself.

He stepped aside, hands lowered to his side and balled into fists. "Get the hell out of here. I don't want to see you here ever again." She didn't belong here. She never belonged here.

And her being here had defiled a sanctuary, a space he had been meaning to preserve. A church of a person whose time he was starting to worship and hold sacred.

And he let someone defile that.

He felt the tightness in his throat, the heat in his chest, and the twisting in the base of his stomach making it feel like a hard stone.

Cee nodded at him with large doe-like brown eyes. "I know ya hate me jus'fer bein here but.." she finally did him the satisfaction of turning to leave and her sincerity was convincing, "Sorry fer what happened and what happened ta yer friend."

She knew the words fell on deaf ears since they'd come from her but Cee was so good at lying that already, she'd almost convinced herself there was no way she could have done this.

She took a few steps, paused, and couldn't help speaking again, "Ya know.. it's gonna be someone else's room eventually. Sooner than later prob. People be wakin up alla time. Some other young kid or some other chick. Don't hate'em cuz'a circumstance, aight?"

And then she finally wandered away.

He let her pass him, did not turn to look at her as she spoke to him, and stared at the ground as she walked away.

He glanced down to the floor where the screws and door knob were. Someone wanted in and they broke in. No one here cared about Rin. They didn't care about those who had gone and left. They would not care about him when he left. His things would be taken and his room filled with someone else fresh from a pod. They were just a factory line of hunters headed to the slaughter, and good people hoping to make a difference and change, who left their families, their sisters, and their friends, came to this hell with high hopes for.......

.....for this?

He turned, and punched the wall, creating a sizeable hole before he winced and pulled it back, shaking his hand. "Owww." He whined, looking at the now red, split knuckles and then set his brow on the wall.

The door was open. Rin's room would be taken. He couldn't keep it preserved. He couldn't keep it for her. He would need to take everything now - he would have to move these things. Change these things. Move them to his room where it would be entirely on him to keep them safe. Safe when he couldn't even keep their owner safe.

He shouldn't be entrusted to guard or protect anything.

He hit his brow against the wall slowly as if beating his head against a surface would somehow shake off all thoughts from it and leave clear answers. When that failed and he had a sizeable headache, he turned and looked to the room. Despite not being ready, it was time to move.
