The day had been pretty uneventful, Eve thought to herself as she continued at a steady trot along the tree covered path she had found, it wasn't more then a deer trail, but it was one she had never taken before, and ever the curious mare she had seen no reason not to follow it.
For the winter months, now past, she had spent along the coast, where the warmer sea breezes kept her somewhat less frozen. though that hadn't been her reasoning for staying there. She had heard from a passing stallion once of a race who swam instead of ran, it was enough to drive her there and keep her almost rooted for the entire season. But alas, she had never so much as seen a tail fin to prove truth to that stallions words and as soon as the snow had begun to melt her restless heart had her on the move once more.
The scent of spring flowers was strong in the air now, distracting her thoughts, her muzzle tipped upward, trying to catch direction for the scent. It was wonderful, and she was dying to go roll around in where ever it was that smelt so amazing. With her ears twitching, mane and tail dancing in a slightly tangled happy mess she picked up pace and left the deer trail she had been following. A mile and a few more feet in the direction she had taken, and light began filtering though much stronger then before. Her heart pounded in her chest as instinct had her slow her pace, hooves soundless as she reached the edge of the trees.
Her breath caught,
'It's even prettier then my nose made me think it would be...' she thought.
" Oh wow..." she nearly jumped at her own voice, so used to being alone and silent that it startled her, a quiet laugh rumbled her chest as with a deep breath her eye's closed and caution lost to the breeze she stepped tentatively into the wide open clearing. Loving as the tall grasses tickled her belly, and the wild flowers surrounded her in there scent, It had been a good while now since she had been in a place anywhere similar to this. It was
amazing. The peace and quiet, nothing but the birds chirping, blades of grass and flowers swaying to the breeze. the sound of her heart pounding in her chest.....
'Wait?' my heart isn't... ' she opened her blue eye's, nearly blinded by the bright light of the sun unhindered by trees.
Her ears strained as the sound she was hearing became clear,
"Hooves? " She couldn't smell anything yet, the breeze blowing upwind. It had her heart doing a nervous jump, Nearly an entire season now, since she had so much as seen another of her kind... She would have panicked, ran for cover and pretended to be a tree. but, the scent of wild flowers surrounded her, calmed her, the breeze was strong but gentle, it felt like a soft ghostly hand brushing her fur, threading though her mane and tail. The sun was warm on her back and seemed to beg her to stay. All of these things kept her steady, kept her standing strong as she waited for the owner of the approaching sound to come into view. Not even sure if they would notice her, and partially hoping they wouldn't as she really wanted to go about her idea of rolling in these flowers. maybe let the sun hit her belly and warm the last of winters chill away...
