It was something of such massively critical importance that Mimsy had almost not asked at all. Only the knowledge that she was trying to be reasonable allowed her to feel comfortable asking Cami to retrieve it in her stead - a tiny little piece that would become the foundation of something much greater, to help her be greater just the same. She had taken very good care of the solidified statue of Insanity that had been her first life, after all, and had still given no indications that she wished ill upon her.

As safe as it rationally was, it was still incredibly stressful. She failed to concentrate on anything that required more than the most minimal levels of her attention until Cami returned, and sought her out as soon as she was able.

The only thing that stood in her way was the door on that second-floor room, paired with regret for not specifying the need for privacy in this moment. After several minutes of awkwardly staring at it with an unnecessary level of intensity, she finally lifted her hand to knock, flinching as if touching it was somehow painful.

"Cami?" The flinch became a cringe, and she closed both eyes as she tried to calm herself before anyone answered.

For all that they spent most of their nights curled up on the couch or beneath a pile of blankets in one bed or another Cami and Otto were not otherwise often in the dorm at the same time. Hearing the call of her semi-sister outside the door the redhead was just as glad that Otto wasn't home as she thought Mimsy was likely to be. "Coming!" It was actually lucky Cami'd heard anything at all. Mimsy's errand was not the only bit of technology brought back from Tokyo; a shiny iPod in its cutesy case had been her personal purchase.

Earbuds hanging around her neck the book she'd borrowed was tossed onto the coffee table for later Cami only for a moment wished she could have been out training. Her back was still not quite fully healed. Two more days, they'd said this morning, when re-bandaging the wound. Couldn't come soon enough!

Smiling as she opened the door Cami immediately gestured that Mimsy should come in. "Hi!"

Finding Cami on the other side of the door soothed the tensions she'd been feeling. There was no need to prepare to be on the offensive, and just one quick glance would give her the indicator she needed to determine how high her defenses needed to be.

"Hello, Cami. It is a pleasure to see you," she greeted her as she slipped through the door, immediately relieved that there was no sign of Otto or Maebe's presence in the room at the moment. She indicated as much with a happy little sigh, and turned back towards Cami again, hands clasped politely in front of her.

"I hope that my errand did not impede upon your leave. Did you enjoy it? The trip, I mean. Of course." Her eyes wandered towards the headphones that were draped around her neck, which seemed to be new. The observation became data tucked away for later, to be addressed if a lull in the conversation presented itself before she made an unprompted mention of it.

Seeing Mimsy in the dorm she shared with Otto it struck the redhead that she hadn't had time alone with the woman she considered her sister (whether or not it was factually accurate) almost since she'd left the infirmary. Even then it hadn't been much of a conversation. Just a simple assertion that Camille would live because the burns were not deadly and she would have certainly been in a pod if the damage had been potentially fatal.

Of course she'd jumped at the chance to assist the physicist in any way possible though the task had seemed a little more difficult than usual. Surprisingly, it hadn't been difficult at all. "Oh, no, you didn't impede at all. It wasn't any trouble at all to detour alone before going home. I figured it was better to err on the side of caution as to privacy so I picked it up on my own." Feeling just a little awkward Cami moved to clear a spot on the couch of blankets and pillows. "Feel free to sit! I'll get you your thing and then we can talk about the trip." Scooting into the bedroom Cami went beneath her bed for the well-insulated miniature briefcase that held Mimsy's chip.

Setting it back on the coffee table it was nothing at all for Cami to curl into her blanket nest and talk about her trip. "I didn't realize not speaking Japanese would be such an obstacle. I've made do in Europe because I speak Spanish but I don't speak anything like Japanese. But we managed and I don't think anyone wanted to stab us. Mostly." Fingers toyed with the ear buds. "It was really fun. Helped get my mind off....things." She trailed off, looking a little awkward once more.

"I'm sorry I haven't been by to visit. I've been training too hard."

Invitations were important social cues, and Mimsy politely accepted the invitation to sit by settling herself into the space that had been made for her. The hands that had been clasped in front of her were now folded in her lap; paired with her rigid posture, she appeared much more proper than she intended, but it couldn't be helped. Observing her peers at Deus had provided her with a tremendous amount of data regarding casual interactions that served her well when she needed to know how to act and react on a conscious level, but two years of study couldn't compete with twenty years of training.

And it never really helped her when she was being genuine, anyway.

"I am glad that it was not troublesome, and I appreciate your efforts to preserve my privacy. I am afraid that it might present itself as a vulnerability rather than the strength that I intend for it to be, should knowledge of my intentions spread." She was smiling by the time Cami returned with the case, and watched with interest as she snuggled into the blankets. "Please tell me all about your adventure! Where did you encounter the greatest level of difficulty? Were you surprised by anything in particular? What made you the happiest during your visit?"

They were questions of innocent curiosity, and she did her best to look as pleasant as she could, despite her stiffness. It an effort to continue that pleasantry, she waved a hand dismissively before dropping it back into her lap.

"No need to apologize," she assured her, maintaining her crooked little smile. "I certainly understand immersion in one's work. I would advise against doing more what than you are interested in accomplishing, however. Few here take notice in overachieving, unfortunately. I have learned that such efforts are best saved for areas that are truly fulfilling or enjoyable."

Few take notice in overachieving. It was the second time that Camille had heard such a statement and considering from where each statement had originated it made her sit up and take notice more than ever. Taym did not seem one for idle conversation but he had convictions that were so strong you had to take them with a grain of salt. For Taym and Mimsy to both generally agree on a point it must have been a rather valid one. In a way that her semi-sister would have recognized and perhaps even been proud or fond of the younger woman mentally cataloged the information for another time.

Reassuring both of them Cami smiled. "No, this is absolutely for me. I actually rather enjoy all the physical work of being in Sun Division. I don't mind being caught up with books and writing papers about things that interest me but it was always my field research, my field work, that I enjoyed the most. I go absolutely bonkers sitting still for long -- it's impossible!" Indeed she was already hugging one knee to her chest, shifting posture, thinking about her trip.

"Gosh, my favorite thing? Well I don't think I mentioned this but I was specifically going to this place called Ice Cream City. They have hundreds of flavors of ice cream in any flavor you can imagine. I never thought I'd be so into green tea ice cream?" Eyes flicked to the kitchen. "The freezer is packed. I'm more shocked we got it all back before it melted! Difficulty was that none of us speak or read Japanese. There were at least six or seven of us going and Dylon is apparently alright with Korean but we weren't in Korea." This was said in a sort of obviously, duh tone as eyes rolled.

"I got Otto to do karaoke though and I think that was the high-point of the whole trip. Did you know he can sing? Like, really sing." Awe crept into her voice, head shaking slightly as she remembered how it had sounded. "I didn't even expect it. He's so shy I thought there would be microphone mumbling but he was so good. I should've recorded it." It was Cami's great regret that she did not.

It was also hard, very hard, not to grill Mimsy about what the chip was for. Why did she need it? Why would this be a weakness that would become a strength? Instead she tentatively pushed out a thought. "Maybe we can go somewhere, someday? You could bring anyone you wanted!" She was a little sister trying to reach out to her big sister, trying to fit in, trying to be a family because if Cami wanted anything in the world it was that.

It did not surprise Mimsy in the slightest that Dylon somehow believed that fluency in Korean would help him in Japan, and all the comment earned was a snort of laughter and an eyeroll. His lack of general competence was not really up for discussion to her, so she stuck with the topics that were legitimately intriguing, gaze flickering off and back onto Cami with each of her restless movements.

"Ice Cream City? I cannot say that I have ever heard of such a place, I'm afraid. Is it a literal city of ice cream?" That was an odd thing to imagine. Surely it was something different; that didn't seem like a very sustainable business otherwise. "What flavors did you return with? Green tea is an interesting concept for an ice cream flavor. I have not heard of this either! Nor would I have thought that Otto possessed an above-average vocal talent. Perhaps he could be coerced to do it just one more time, so you can obtain the recording?"

She tilted her head, making note of the way she spoke of his talent. It resembled the positive tone that tended to accompany her own words when she spoke of the things that Robert excelled in, which was interesting in a way that she didn't understand yet.

Instead of lingering on that thought, she reached to pull the case into her lap, fingers idly passing over its surface.

"We could take leave together in the future, yes. I am allowed four days per month now that I have a specialized focus, so I assume that it might be best to work with your availability rather than mine." She paused, eyes drifting down towards the case, trailing the patterns made by her fingertips. When she began again, she didn't look back up at her. "As long as you are truly interested, at least. I understand if my company is not as appealing as the company of others, of course. I hope to improve upon that, but it is not yet ideal."

Mimsy's laughter lightened her sister considerably, the flash of smile almost like one you would earn from a shy child whom you'd been trying to charm out from behind her mother's legs. "Not literally but the decor sometimes would make you think that, I suppose, if you were very young. Obviously it's plastic, porcelain, and other building materials but it's pretty neat." Tugging her phone out of the blankets where it had been tossed fingers flicked through the pictures until she could offer one to Mimsy.

The question about flavors almost had her hopping up to throw the fridge open to check. "Gosh uhm...there's at least six kinds of chocolate. Possibly more? Coconut, chocolate-raspberry, green tea, a few other random flavors..." Trailing off a bit she laughed. "We went a bit overboard." Which wasn't really anything new for that trio -- excess was naturally in the personality of the two girls and when it came to chocolate Otto wasn't really hard to compromise as well.

Mimsy's nervous motions across the face of the case, combined with her words, made Camille rather indignant. "No!" It was quick, almost vehement, before she realized such an exhortation might be easily taken in the wrong manner. "Your company is appealing to me! I...I know you barely know me and I suppose I can't say I know you very well either but that is specifically why I want to spend time with you." Should she tell Mimsy about her ridiculous idolization of someone she barely knew? It seemed like it would be a negative, not a positive, despite the fact it was still admiration of Mimsy in particular.

Drumming fingers against her knee, a nervous gesture easily recognizable, Cami shook her head. "I get two days a month and I've used one of them but the month is over soon. If I don't use the one I have I will have three days next month. I would love to do something that interests you because..." She trailed off and looked a bit sheepish. "Well, I don't know much about you past that you're a scientist. I want to know more." More that didn't come from Twitter or someone who didn't seem to understand that Mimsy was a person too.
