If Merlin had any influence on Ami, it was merely making her more agitated to complete her project and more eager to get on with her work so as to create conflict with the wretched creatures and, in the end, utterly destroy them brick by brick.
However, Ami had never been one for bloodthirsty malevolence, certainly not physical in any sense of the word. She was a lifer, and that meant research to benefit the whole of Deus Ex.
Fortunately Ami had an enormous artifact, plenty of time and an endless supply of books thanks to her master key to the libraries. A good deal of work had gone into the stack of papers she now held within her hands, and although she knew it would backfire she was actually quite pleased with the results.
This last, final stretch was the hardest part. Convincing H that she was worth not only the resources, but more importantly, his time. She lightly tapped on the door to his office and said, "Sir," somewhat softly. She had never known the man to be out of his office when he was needed, and she hoped that this occurrence was the same.

The doctor's voice intoned the usual, "Enter."
The desk was covered in neat stacks of papers, currently ignored in favour of a life-sized cutout of the Death lead. It had a large red ribbon on the top, like a gift, and several small knives sticking out of it. The doctor was toying with one such as she entered.

Ami did so upon his command, tilting her head slightly at the ... lovely reincarnation of Caelius. "Very interesting decor, sir," she said with a mirthful smile. Ami, for one, liked it very much.
She waited to see if he would turn around, but regardless of if he did or not, she continued speaking. Efficiency was key. "I have a proposal, and am unfortunately in need of supplies." She spoke carefully, idly wondering how fast the Doctor would be able to impale her with one of those daggers if he wanted to. An interesting query undoubtedly.

He wondered the same thing himself. Smiling, the doctor murmured, "I'm listening."

"Some time ago we recovering the Codex Gigas, sir. The devil's bible, as it were. I won't bore you with the details," she began. "It has ... extensive knowledge on demons. I've been cross-referencing it with other texts and ..."
She pulled a paper out of her folder and held it up for the Doctor to see. It depicted two strangely mangled figures, one with a marking and the other with horns. "There's something called a demonic contract, wherein one creature forces another creature to do a task for an agreed upon price." She put the picture back into her folder and said, "We've known about these for some time, but the book has exact details about the process and the inner workings."
Ami was, admittedly, a bit too excited for the next part, though you would never know with how monotonously she spoke. "I believe this ... "contract" can be used to our advantage. If we could somehow harness this system, we could essentially puppet lesser creatures." The idea of killing one creature with another creature was indeed a satisfying thought.
"I would like the necessary supplies to study this process." Another piece of paper was held out, a small shopping list of sorts. "Capture nets, the necessary quarantine space ... the payment for the trainees will come from my pay, of course." She looked to H now more seriously. "It is somewhat more ... consuming than I had hoped, but I believe the benefits to outweigh the costs."

Opening a drawer, the doctor removed a metal box, and placed it on the desk. Her drew a small runic key from his coat pocket and opened it, pulling out one of several hunter pendants. It was the the same as usual, except with a red sigil instead of the typical blue. "The Control Program, has, unfortunately been set aside due to losses of the past year. If you'd like to take it up, and yes you are correct about imitating the nature of demonic contracts, then it's yours, my dear. Though do be careful, as that particular program has always held a rather...hmmm, sad mortality rate." Dropping the pendant back into the box, he pushed it toward her. Inside were three red pendants and a USB drive. "If you're found abusing these, of course, I'm afraid you'll need to be be terminated from your position."

"The emotional toll of the mortality rate merely depends upon who's perspective the mortality is viewed," Ami commented idly. She had long accepted she was going to die, and was quite frankly surprised she was still alive. If he meant losing specimens for study, that was a bonus, not a detriment.
She eyed the pendants greedily, but said nothing and waited for his explanation. It seemed simple enough- put the pendant on something, control gained. She assumed the USB would explain any further information she needed, and if she didn't she knew better than to ask the Doctor for a lesson. Ami could fend for herself.
Tiny fingers wrapped around the box and Ami nodded. The Doctor's trust (if it could even be called trust) was indeed a sacred thing for her. "Absolutely, sir."

Tapping it on the desk, after several moments, the doctor handed her the key as well. "Lab 3B06, you'll find the necessary supplies." The third basement held the more obscure and also unpleasant lab projects, second only to the underground rubble in the farmlands. "It will need some cleaning, I believe. The last failure was very unfortunate."

Ami nodded and committed the number to memory. 3B06. Excellent.
She began walking towards the door, sensing the conversation coming to a close. "That's what trainees are for," she said with a small smile on her face. "Thank you, as always, sir."
With that, she slipped out the door, box tucked tightly under her grip and keys placed gently into her pocket next to her library keycard. That had gone well. But then, Ami expected nothing less than perfection from herself.lizbot thank you!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin
