User ImageIt was a pretty standard day, as far as Bryne was concerned, but that was probably just her. It was summer - the sun was hot and achey and she thanked the gods that she had been blessed with such a light-colored fur. Her companion, on the other hand, had not been so lucky with his dark black mane.

She’d never heard him complain about it though, just smiling at her when she had asked. “Come on, lets check along the borders,” She had implored to him, not wanting to make the trip alone. Of course, he had quickly agreed. Vogel was kind like that, and she liked keeping him around.

It was nice company.

Vogel, on the other hand, was quite certain it was going to be, at the very least, a pleasant day. He could feel it in his bones, but he didn’t say a word about it, and followed Bryne to the edges of the land. Perhaps, he decided, they would find something interesting.

Or at least have a very nice stroll along the borders. Sometimes the borders were quiet after all, despite having such a vast coverage. He enjoyed his time with Bryne. They continued along together until the reached the border. The light lioness took a deep breath, looking cheerful as can be. Yes, Vogel decided, it was a nice day indeed.

"Kiwara, survival is the most important thing in life; never forget that. When life looks its bleakest, your survival instincts will never fail you, always listen to them and you'll be on the right track every time."

The last parting words of wisdom she and her few siblings had received before eventually going off on their own, like the rest of them Kiwara had been born out in the plains...thankfully of these same lands. The Pridelands and its borders weren't the worst place to be born in, pridal lion or not, in the right season it was bountiful enough...the only downside was the lack of protection from hunters and scavengers that a pride provided.

She'd never understood her mother's logic despite having always respected her choice to live as a rogue.

However the young lioness had been contemplating this ideology amidst her own thoughts quietly during her transitional phases from adolescence to adulthood; which she was blearingly just stepping out of nowadays. Even now as she carried a fat hare in her mouth she couldn't get over the slight cramping in her jaw that came from the first skewed steps of inexperience a first time hunter had.

She was dangerously close to the borders of the local and most well known pride of the area, for good reason too. But she wanted to test the waters before diving into the deep end, thus the reason for the hare. However so caught up in her thoughts, the golden lioness only briefly caught the glimpse of two partly smaller forms in her peripheral vision and froze up....only to realize they were two other lions....and hopefully as friendly as most had proclaimed this pride to be.

Clearing her throat she attempted to call out to the two.

"Ahem...uhm....hello?"

Bryne, with her better hearing and higher vigilance, noticed the other lioness first. She watched the other closely, waiting to see if the other was a threat or not. She kept up a steady stream of conversation with Vogel, though he noticed her shift in attentions.

It took him a moment to find the source of her focus, but he smiled when he spotted the lioness - especially when she called out. "We could go say hi?" Vogel suggested. After a moment of hesitance, Bryne gave get agreement, moving shifting their course.

"Good day," Vogel greeted happily. He was generally the more cheerful of the pair, though that was not to say Bryne was unkind. She was cautious, is all. She did aspire to become the head of a scouting troupe, after all.

He gave the grey lioness a small bump to her side to prompt her to speak. "Hello," she greeted as well, not unkindly. "What brings you to the borders?" She asked after a moment.

These two didn't seem threatening, thankfully, infact they seemed no older than she had been a moon or so ago and it kind of put her at ease as she offered a small if still slightly unsure smile at the pair of them. Her fattened catch sitting carefully guarded between her paws for the moment as she watched the pair of lions and listened patiently through their inquiry.

"Ah well yes, I'm a rogue and I left my mother a moon or so ago as soon as I was mature enough..." She was sure this was unneeded information at the moment and just shook her head as she got straight to the point. "-Anyway! I usually hunt on my own nowadays but after having had my hunts stolen from me numerous times by scavengers, I thought perhaps pride life would be...well...better suited for survival."

She was nothing if not honest and glanced down at the hare briefly.

"I even brought a peace offering to show no ill will..."

This is how it worked....right....?

Bryne still seemed a bit stand-offish, but Vogel only needed to bump her a little more in the right direction. The other lioness did not seem unkind or threatening - nearly their age, but older - fully in adulthood, but just barely. They would be in that stage of their life soon, despite already belonging to a pride.

He couldn't imagine how nervous she probably was. "There are safety in numbers," Vogel agreed with the new lioness, and Bryne gave a hum of agreement.

"We are a large pride," She spoke amicably. "And there's plenty of food and water to go around..." The pride was pretty much open to everyone, after all. "There's no need for the offerings. We're just young hunters ourselves, after all," she was warming up, a bit, to the outsider, though still hesitant to trust.

"Perhaps... Would you like to walk with us a bit - to see the lands, that is?" Vogel asked, with some uncertainty, glancing at Bryne for approval of his declaration.

Even just meeting, her instincts could tell that the younger female was slightly...well...untrusting. Not that she could blame her, rogues were probably a half and half chance of threat. Most likely a threat, but she didn't want to come off as that, infact she doubted one slightly inexperienced lioness against a whole pride would deem that much of a threat...

....Though she admitted the fact that she didn't need to offer anything was a little embarrassing and her ears fell backwards ever so slightly at the news as an awkward smile briefly sketched across her maw. Okay that was one blunder done, hopefully there wouldn't be another.

"A walk...?" Kiwara questioned curiously before glancing over the green and blue horizon where the sky kissed the grass. Maybe a tour would be helpful and she offered the pair a nod. "Sounds nice."

Slowly she pushed herself to her paws, draping her hare over her back so she wouldn't leave it to any scavengers, she'd taken forever to catch it there was no point leaving it to some darn hyena.

"I'm Kiwara, by the way...did you two join or were you born into the pride?"

It always took a while for Bryne to warm up to others, save a select few that had been trusted within a few moments meeting. It took ages, sometimes, but Bryne would likely warm up to the new lioness very soon - likely during their stroll.

Bryne and Vogel were probably only so close having grown up together from cubhood, and Vogel would kindly attest to that. "The lands are big, we likely won't see it all today, Vogel warned and and Bryne gave a small laugh in response to him.

"Oh, yes, we were both born here, though Vogel's a bit older," They were some months apart, but not enough to really make a difference to them. She brushed against the male before focusing back on the new lioness - Kiwara. "I'm Bryne, and he's Vogel," she introduced them both as she often did.

So far, despite the earlier bungle, things seemed to be going pretty well as she stepped in toe with the other two whilst they started their tour...or half tour of the lands that she was so interested in seeing. Nodding to Vogel's words, her ears swiveled partly in a few directions as she soaked in the sights.

"That makes sense, I heard the territory that the pride holds is as far as the eye can see from the dens..." Birds were very chatty creatures. "To see that much in just a day, you'd sleep for several afterwards."

Her sense of humor was...lacking to say the least, having never really made a joke to anyone except her close knit family and a few passing prey beasts that she hadn't chosen to snack on for the sake of being full or pleasant conversation. Needless to say she was....inexperienced in that as well.

"So...are you two friends or...?"

"That's very true. The Pridelands kingdom is vast. Vogel and I tend to stay closer to the borders since this is where we take our morning walk," Bryne noted. Te pair spent a lot of time at the borders, but if they ever started a family, they would surely go deeper into the pride to settle. Though she did quite like the area they basically had claimed, for the moment.

Vogel, in turn, had followed along quietly, allowing Bryne to lead the coversation for a bit, and he was happy about it. However, when Kiwara asked about their relationship, the poor lion began to sputter a bit, unsure of how to answer.

"Well, we're in the beginning stages of a courtship, as it is," Bryne said matter of factly. Vogel wanted to hide, but he was quite proud of his relationship with Bryne. He just had never said it outloud before...

A young couple.

Her assumption was correct and she had to restrain her smile slightly when she found out, she remembered when she was a little younger and was going doe eye'd at the idea of having some dark stranger whisk her away. But those thoughts seemed rather far off for her now.
Nowadays she barely even thought of things like that.

"My congratulations." She offered with a small smile towards Bryne as she kept the pace, these two seemed good for each other. Both strong and healthy and with a pride this size it was assured that any cubs they'd have from such a coupling would be well looked after. That was also a point...
What was the policy on cubs that didn't belong to the king? There had been some nasty rumors about what certain lions did to cubs that weren't their own but she wasn't sure that anyone who ruled the Pridelands would be capable of that..

....

Still...

"So what is the royalty like...? The birds can only tell so much about a pride of lions before it turns to incessant squabbles over who's worm is whose."

There was a lot more to see within the lands - creatures as well as other lions. They were vast lands, after all, with many members roaming about on their usual day to day business. "Thank you, kindly," Vogel said, still blushing a bit at the declaration.

Bryne gave a hum of agreement, and focused then on Kiwara's other question. "The current King is Simi. He's been our King for a long time, and he's very kind," Bryne told her. She'd never met him, personally. She was young, and there were a lot of members, after all.

"It'd be better to ask one of the historians or story tellers for more information on them, though. I'm afraid I wasn't much of a story-seeker as a cub," Bryne said apologetically. Vogel murmured an agreement to the statement.

Historians? Story tellers? My this pride was very organised, she could appreciate that a lot - the fact they also had such a kind king, by the sound of it, was also a plus. Someone benevolent, she had no doubt.

But her thoughts were getting a little ahead of her, she kept up with the two as they spoke whilst every now and then taking in the surroundings and how peaceful everything was. The kiss of sunlight on the grass, the deep blue sky, everything was so peaceful and the sound of her animals prancing and spronking in the background was more than peaceful, especially in the company of these two affable adolescent's.

"Sounds like a great place to live." Kiwara stated matter of factly, glancing briefly in the direction of the natural stone obelisk that made the center piece of the entire pridelands.

The pair watched the other lioness with some interest, as she took in her surroundings. It must have been exciting, being in a new place an all - especially the Pridelands. They had grown up here - some of the pride lots it's splendor from being here so long, but there was absolutely no denying the beauty.

"It really is," The pair agreed with her, though it was Vogel who spoke it. Bryne gave a small hum in place of the words as they continues their stroll into the lands. She noticed the glance at the shining feature of their pride, and directed their attention back to it.

"That's Pride Rock," she informed. "The king resides there, and it can house a large portion of the pride. That'd probably be the best place to get started..." She'd never really directed anyone into the pride to join. She wasn't completely sure of the processes, but she would learn - both her and Vogel would.

Kiwara glanced at the other two as they named the obelisk and her ears perked up in interest, Pride Rock is where the king lived...? So that's most likely where she had to go for joining and probably where she'd be living close to if she was lucky.
As far as she could see, this territory looked like a great place to live.

Secure.

Well populated.

Abundant in food.

She could see herself being comfortable here and it brought a faint smile too her muzzle before she focused back on Bryne and Vogel yet again.

"Thank you again you two, I think I know enough that I want to try and join..."

Swiveling her ears to look up at the sky as it faded from blue to a crisp orange with a pool of indigo at the highest peak, she offered a lopsided smile.

"You two should probably head back to your den too unless you want to stay out here for the night..." With a smile she offered a small nod to the two that'd been so kind to take her on a partial tour before slowly starting in the direction of Pride Rock. "...Thank you again."

With that, she focused fully on the pridal dens...this would be a big step in her life.
