Text to Kostya:
Hey, I need a sparring buddy and everyone else is all tied up. Would you mind?

Okay, so maybe that hadn't been the absolute truth, but Peyton's preferred training partners were busy, and she had been meaning to get to know Kostya better for some time now. He was important to America, and he was friends with Taym. That was high praise all on it's own, without any opinions ever having to be voiced.

In the few times Peyton had spent time with Kostya, in missions and out, he'd been nothing but nice. It was time to see if maybe they could be friends as well.

Kostya took the text at face value, and since he was not occupied by a duty or erstwhile errands, a spar seemed like a good exercise. He had an excess of restlessness that crawled beneath his skin, a violence exercised in four days and two hours since 2 had last refused to behave.

Sure. On way to field.

He showed up in a black deadmau5 shirt and equally simplistic cargo pants, his boots the usual, steel-toed. No coat, though: it was new enough that he wanted to keep it in good condition.

"Hello," Kostya said, unused to spending time with anyone shorter than he, angling his head downwards to get a good look at Peyton. In one hand he held his totem, where Syntax gleefully beeped and booped in greeting.

Like Kostya, Peyton had left her coat behind. She usually did, as a personal preference. For one, she wanted to keep it in nice condition. Also, it was damn hot on the island, and she liked to keep comfortable. Shorts and a tee s**t were just dandy for the beating sun and high humidity.

The Death intermediate's greeting was met with a wave and a grateful smile. "Hey! Thanks for this." A slender finger pointed towards his chest. "Nice shirt." She didn't know much about Deadmau5, but she'd heard a few songs and liked them enough.

Gaze sliding down to the seeping device in his hand, she summoned Warrick, hands tightening around the ringed handle. "You ready?"

"Have been meaning to spar for some time, too. Is good to stretch vings."

Kostya summoned up Sytnax, gleaming in blue and red fractures across the metal on his arm, runes glowing softly. He was different, now, no longer just a smooth cannon, equipped with a sharp edge along his outer arm for versatility.

It had seen a lot of use, with the clones.

He braced himself, taking on a familiar defensive stance. "Ready, Miss Creedy."

"Excellent!" She agreed completely. This was going to be fun!

Hopefully.

"You can call me Peyton." She didn't think she was old enough to be referred to as a 'Miss', but beside that, she just wasn't that formal. Casual was better, specially if she was hoping to develop more of a friendship with the Death.

He was ready, and she didn't waste anymore time. Instead charging in and snapping to the side away from that wicked looking arm cannon so she could lay of a sharp-knuckled punch into his side.

Kostya nodded, filing the information away. Her weapons grazed his side, cutting into his shield. It felt good, to be doing this: the rhythm of the battlefield, the trading of blows. He'd never been particularly good at fighting, but he enjoyed it.

There was a violence, in it, that he got to exercise. The retaliation was glancing, the drag of his blade against Peyton's back as she slid by.

"You are fast," he said. "Agility train?"

The soft bite of the blade along her back was enough to have her jerking away from him, out of arms reach, before turning on her heel so she was facing him again.

"Yes, almost every day." Agility, speed, stamina and strength. Peyton took her training very seriously.

Her left hand shout out, forcing Kostya's arm weapon wrapped arm out and away from her so she could go for the body. Right fist arching in to catch the poor young man in the stomach with a powerful upper cut.

The force of the blow was enough to send him reeling, staggering backwards with a one-two step, disarmed enough to not garner a second blow.

Kostya shook his head once, as if to clear it, and nodded appreciatively. "It show."

When he staggered back she gave him a moment to recover. Not something she'd have done in an actual battle, but for friendly spars she had quite a bit more sportsmanship.

"How about you?"

When she thought he'd had enough time to gather his barrings again she resumed her offensive assault, slashing at his unarmed bicep.

The next of Peyton's blows was less impactful, her weapons skating along his shield. Syntax's mental-meters flashed with a warning that he was approaching half-health, perpetually imitating a HUD in his mind's eye whenever he was summoned and engaged. It wasn't accurate, and often it was gibberish combined with techno-psycho-babble, but it was a comfort. Around the clones, he'd never done it: they hadn't been a threat, or even something to engage with, just animals to tend to.

"No," he said, the low-whine of Syntax powering up for a blast growing clearly audible. "Do not train as much as should." It wasn't self-deprecating, just an honest statement. "Before veapon change, no close-combat capabilities, only range."

Kostya loosed the blast, sending a crackling ball of white-blue-red in her direction.

"Well If you ever need a sparring partner I'd be happy to-" The ball of energy striking her in the chest effectively cut off the rest of that statement, but he probably got the gist of it.

She staggered, barely managing to keep her feet beneath her, and had to cough to get enough air back in her lungs. "Ouch." That one made her chest ache. It wouldn't last, but it had been a damn good hit. "Well done, Kon."

She took a second to recover, but wasted little time in retaliating. She charge at him again, using her size and speed to best advantage, slipping past his arm, and aiming a tiny fist to dig spikes into his side.

Kostya took pause, nodding once in acknowledgement.

"Is very much all or nothing." Kostya recoiled from the next blow as it came in, trying to move out of the way but not quite making it. She packed a good punch, and Kostya had to respect her abilities.

"May take you up on offer," he said, after his next swipe missed.

Boy, was that an understatement.

Her smile was supportive. "Anytime really. I usually get my Sun duties out of the way early, so my afternoons/evenings are more or less free. I'd be happy to help you get more comfortable with Sytnax in hand to hand style fighting."

She hadn't gone far after the last hit, and managed to just bounce back in again, aiming a strike at his arm.

"Hmmm." Kostya mentally calculated his free time; splitting it between the house, the bar, and preparing food for both his charges. "Vill see. Many things to be juggling," he said, "but vill try to make time in evening, morning is usually better." An apologetic nod of the head. "Make America dinner, many nights. She get fussy."

He let the blow strike, and then used her force against her, striking down with the sharp edge of Syntax's edge. The weapon thrummed with excitement, demanding the correct combination so that he could unleash his charge.

Soon. Patience.

The strike landed, and Peyton let out a pained hiss as she jerked away from him, pivoting on her heel so she was facing him again. Seemed he was falling into his grove, or at least she hoped so. Tightening her grip on the metal rings that made up the handle of one of her weapons, she gave a mental prod to her partner.

Are you ready, Warrick?

<I am always ready, Tidbit.> An eager growl eased through her mind, and she laughed, grin widening as she felt her partner condensing all that collected Fear so he could feed it back to his partner.

Let's go, Warrick.

She started forward, an easy lope that picked up speed at a rapid pace until she was sprinting all out. She struck, and the sound of metal on metal rang out over the training field. Again and again she slashed and swung at him, but his weapon managed to be there every time. Luck or skill, he managed to deflect every shot until all the fear was gone and she had to back away.

s**t!
