Who: Anastacia and Revontulet When: June 21st, 2014; around 11am Where: Cherish Park, Isle de Gambino Weather: Warm but not overbearing, sunny with a smattering of fluffy white clouds
The past several months had been a ride. After Cesc's visit in November came the holidays, which was almost immediately followed by a move. Unpacking and settling in hadn't taken very long at all, but winter had droned on for so long that Anastacia had almost started to consider that there might not be a spring. Such thoughts had been proven false, especially when her fourth birthday came and then went, but neither Zeke nor Brad blamed the spider queen when she had spoken the statement aloud back in February.
However it wasn't just these events that had taken the Virus Frei on a trip. Ever since the Stag Raevan had helped Anya to realize she could come out of her self-imposed darkness, she had worked hard and fought even harder to break free of the jungle's hold. Some days were good but the Widow still had those where her outlook didn't seem quite so bright. Today was one of those days. Even in the middle of sunny June, Anya felt that weight of uncertainty and upset press down heavily upon her brow and shoulders. It had started quietly enough; a sense of restlessness and cabin fever in the condo she, her Guardian, and his lover called home. Going out to relax in the yard or wander the tree-lined streets of their neighborhood didn't quite feel as if they would fit the bill this time and despite the off feelings something within Anastacia felt ready to go further than a few streets away from home. Gambino wasn't a strange or terribly new place to the spider queen, so she thought a trip to the park she knew was near Lab 305 was something she could handle. Naturally Zeke had been surprised at her request, but happily agreed all the same. He shuttled her to the Lab, told her when he'd be done by so she could be back by then, and let the spider queen go off on her way. Although things had started off all well and good, by the time Anastacia reached the park the unsavory feelings had sunk right in and made themselves at home.
This was a mistake, I should've stayed in Durem. Her focus was on her hands, turning them over to curl her fingers in toward her palms as she 'sat' on a shaded bench. They itched in a way that the Anya had grown to know so well, calling out for long strands of yarn and sturdy knitting needles so she could pull herself away from the bad thoughts like all the times before. Alas, she had none. Why didn't I grab my bag? Why did I rush out of the house without it? Stupid, Anya. Stupid...

Revontulet was glad to see the weather was growing warmer. Although she did not precisely notice temperature changes in ways other humans did (or most frei for that matter), lately she had been feeling lethargic and somewhat...off. This warm weather didn't entirely dispel the feeling that lurked somewhere deep in her chest, but it certainly perked the moonstone up and got her out of the house to bask in the sun that warmed her skin.
With a breeze catching and playing with some locks of her hair, left down out of pure laziness, and causing her light sundress to dance about her ribbon, it only took a matter of minutes for Ren's mood to lighten. Despite the smile on her lips, there was still that hint of something that was, to put it simply, off about the frei. Perhaps it was the way her eyes looked a little darker around the edges or the way the aurora's hair failed to impress at its utmost, but they were all little things that didn't quite add up to something being outright wrong. Besides, how could anything be wrong when the weather was as lovely as this?
Now if only the people occupying the park could fall in line with that, she'd have considered herself quite content.
Unfortunately, the usual smattering of people were milling about. Some were feeding ducks, others reading books while their children attempted to climb trees and still others simply sat or strolled and enjoyed the lovely weather. One thing that wasn't so lovely was the way the general population in the park were tending to bring down the natural beauty of the place.
"Is it too much to ask that you don't wear socks with sandals?" Ren moaned to herself, under her breath of course, as she moved towards one of her favored sitting areas, eyes otherwise preoccupied with the offensive footwear and not those around her.

Through the internal chiding there was a moment that passed when Anya simply thought that leaving the park and going back to the Lab to find Zeke would be a thing for her to do. It sounded reasonable and she latched onto it firmly - this trip out had been a farce and the best place for her to be right now was at home in the papasan with needles in her hands and balls of yarn nestled into her sides. She knew Zeke enough to know he would do this for her. One look at her face and he would be tripping over himself to help make her feel better, even if it meant taking his one break earlier than anticipated and spending it driving all the way back to Durem even though they had only just gotten to Gambino from there. The more she thought about it, the better it sounded. Go home, knit away the afternoon and the yucky feelings, and tuck away a pearl of wisdom to never, ever again leave the house in a rush.
"Never, ever again," she said under her breath as she rose from her spot on the bench, shaking her head for added self-emphasis. The plan as it was replaced her mantra of 'baby steps' temporarily, as she needed more than just that to wind her way out of the park. Gaze still pointed down, Anya curled her fingers into her palm and squeezed them to steel herself and her nerves - which were already threatening to buckle and leave the Virus lost in that internal tug-of-war called uncertainty.
I can do this. Go home, knit away the yucky feelings, and never, ever forget her bag again. Just down the path, out the gate, then a left across the street, a right, and straight down back to the Lab. For so long she had actively avoided the Lab and anything to do with the place but now the Widow was looking forward to setting the pristine white building set back from the street. Such a thing could have been funny, but now was not the time. Go home, knit away the yucky feelings, and never, ever forget her bag again.
"I can do thi--Oh." Anastacia brought her gaze up as she turned and right in her unmarred field of vision was suddenly another Raevan, making her eyes and crown widen in surprise. The other femme's hair was an ombre of cool shade colors, her eyes strikingly pale like her skin though colored blue instead of white, and it had been so long that the name of the Moonstone Frei had almost been completely lost on Anya. Almost.
It's Toilet.

So distracted was Revontulet with her mission to occupy her favorite little spot for people watching that she very nearly missed the other frei in the park.
It would have been hard, of course, to by bass Anya with any ease though. Unlike herself, who blended easily into a crowd, the spider frei's wicked crown, extra eyes and spindly wings did nothing but put a large neon arrow of different over her head.
Plus there was her absolutely beautiful and stick straight frost lavender hair.
For Ren, it was not difficult to bring the other's name to the forefront of her mind. Although the two had not spent more than a few moments together the first night and had not met since, it was easy for the girl to recall that first evening in the Lab.
Once the two had sighted each other there was a long moment of pause. The aurora had not forgotten that the spider was not a fan of hers, and Ren was not sure as to the best way to proceed with approaching her. Would Anya remember her? Would she care to be approached? The second question had already formulated a bit of an answer that first night.
Despite a little voice that told her to move on, Revontulet finally decided to move towards the other girl, her wings lofting and folding intermittently with indecision over which would be more receptive to the frei.
"Anya."

The off color nickname echoed through her mind. Realization sunk in with all the grace of a scoop of ice cream hitting the floor. Their eyes met and it was over from there. Briefly the idea that she could make a quick escape by ducking into the foliage crossed Anya's mind, but no action came from it now that it was clear that Revontulet had caught sight of her as well.
Oh no.
She was frozen there as though there was a spotlight upon her; her crown wide and her wings flexing from nerves rather than an attempt to get away.
Anya hoped that Revontulet would pass her by. Smile, give a wave, and carry on her merry way to doing whatever it was she was doing here. That would allow the spider queen to make her exit, get back to the Lab, and avoid any mishaps that were sure to come if the Aurora Frei came over. This would be a brief encounter, one to remark upon during another meeting on a better day. But life never went the way one wanted, did it?
The younger femme appeared to pause a moment but then, sure as sunshine, floated over to her lavender-haired counterpart. Anya straightened, alert and aware of the shrinking distance between them. Her thoughts became a tempest of how their first meeting had gone, how to act now, and how to get out of anything extended lest her whole world come undone. Such thoughts were numerous, but one stood strong amongst the onslaught - she could not run. Not only would her body physically not let her, one half-uncovered part of her former self wouldn't either.
To take off would only make herself look bad, it said, and that would end up making her feel worse. That wouldn't be good in any form and she didn't want that, did she?
Anastacia would have uttered the word 'no' in response to her thoughts, but her name was suddenly in the air and the Frei came back to herself with a jerk of her head and a sudden snapped closure of her wings. Color would have been high in her cheeks had she the blood to do so because now the Aurora Raevan was before her, as pretty as a picture and as every bit the same as Anya remembered her from their meeting on the other Raevan's birth day. Her clothes weren't the same ones as then, but she was Revontulet regardless of what she was wearing. There was only one Frei in the world with that look.
"Revon." She loosed her chosen form of the Moonstone Frei's name and then pressed her lips shut as though fearing drivel to suddenly start spouting from them. 'How do I act?' crossed her thoughts once more and Anastacia began to feel as if every part of her was off. Even though she was just floating there with her arms at her sides she felt all wrong.
What do I say? It had been a long while since that first meeting they had shared. In this moment Anya came up blank as to how she felt about the other Frei exactly. Too long it had been and too much pressure all at once, but she could at least remember one thing: she hadn't hated this one from the start. Perhaps she had not even disliked her much. Polite. Just...be polite.
"It's been awhile." She would not have called the words she spoke 'nailing it' by any stretch, but it was something all the same and it came out fine. "You look nice."

Revontulet watched the indecision flicker behind the spider's gaze. Distant though it was, the younger frei was all too familiar with the hesitation that came from social interactions and recognized the minute details that gave away Anya's mental anguish.
This is why she waited, the other's name a puff of air between them until Anya chose which direction she wanted to go. So easily could she have offered a polite greeting and said she was leaving, or not well and disinterested in company. There were many different ways the spider could have made it know that she had no interest in entertaining the moonstone.
"It's been awhile...You look nice."
The welcoming words caused Ren's wings to still, high upon her back, as a small smile grew upon her lips.
"I'm already a year old now," the frei said, though it was truthfully a year and some change at this point. No need to go getting technical when this reception was so much better than the last.
Revon took a piece of her dress between two fingers on each hand, her desire to be in contact with others well remembered to not be shared with Anya. For a moment her sea-shade gaze focused there, downwards as she twisted the light fabric against her knuckles, before looking back up at the spider frei.
For a long moment she wasn't entirely sure what to say, and her cheeks colored like a summer peach with every word that wasn't spoken between them. The younger took a breezy shift forward, careful to ensure her intentions were not to invade the other's space or initiate contact, but rather to enter into a more conspiratorial manner. "I think we both look very nice. It's everyone else I'm worried about..."
Said with youthful innocence that lacked any real malintent, more disbelief.

"I'm already a year old now."
"A-are you?" The news hit like a ton of bricks, but not in the usual way Anya had come to expect. Although the two had not seen each other since Revon's birth, the fact the timing of their second meeting was so recent was the shocking point. Anya had grown used to not seeing others for long periods after the first meeting and so this...This was new. Still...Revon a yearling now? Time had flown and the spider queen had, of course, been left in the dust.
The shock on her face was perhaps apparent. Her gaze was still surprised to even see the other Frei but now the shock and awe was over this new realization more than the latter. Her mouth was slightly parted as though to say more, but the words had dried up and blown away off her tongue and into the void.
Before things got awkward, Revon made her move. The pretty Frei floated forward innocently enough, but the action was enough to snap Anya into the here and now. In keeping her space, the Aurora Raevan had assured Anya did not back away from her and also that she was alert to what Revon had to say when she said it.
Of course, that didn't stop some of her words from being confusing to a small degree.
"Everyone else?" The Widow blinked her lavender pair of eyes once and then twice before turning her head to view the people who were going about their lives around them. Men, women, children, and animals too - plenty of folks in the park today. Each was dressed appropriately for the weather, at least at a quick glance. Shorts, skirts, short sleeves, no sleeves...Summer wear. Revon fit in but also stood out in a stunning seafoam dress that suited her wings and the ends of her hair to a T. Anastacia did as well; having long since abandoned sweatshirts and formless, unappealing things she had donned a cream-colored sleeveless turtleneck made of light, breathable material for the day. It hugged her right in places, but as everything she wore did, halfway down the top hung limp on account of her lack of midriff to give it shape. But that wasn't what Revon was talking about and Anastacia wasn't sure she knew exactly what the pretty femme meant. "I'm not sure I understand what you mean..."

At the look of shock on Anya's features the aurora seemed to swell slightly, her smile growing just a bit wider as her wings fanned out behind her.
Although the spider had been left numb-tongued by the knowledge, Revontulet had incorrectly assumed that Anya was flummoxed by how she had grown and developed in this span of time. This time, at least, the aurora had a voice to speak with Anya, and that already made a world of difference! Reaching up to her hair, Ren pulled a lock of wavy sea tide over her shoulder and wound it about her knuckles. The picture of a young girl flirting with vanity.
The young frei had concluded that, being the regal Anya and the right-hand of her guardian, Zeke, she would no doubt be in constant contact with the others of their kind. What with him welcoming all the new raevans, she could take her pick of who the best and brightest were to become her very best friends. Not knowing just who the other favored, Ren instead pictured the beautiful lavender haired raevan rubbing elbows with the likes of Zul, Luka, Lulu and Zuri. The whole lot of them glittered in her imagination and she was suddenly envious she had not envisioned herself amongst them.
With Anya's confusion, only Revontulet's lofted brows showed a hint of mirth. To her, it was ever so obvious what she meant, but it certainly was not beneath her to point the other's eyes in the direction she meant. Abandoning the hair she'd taken the habit to rolling between her fingers, Ren deftly pointed at a woman wearing denim over-alls. "Everyone else being those who left the house today looking like they haven't left it in the last decade."
Ren's gaze had brightened with its sweep of the park and another example for Anya. There was simply so much going on, and it was perfect weather for people to show just how hideous their fashion sense could get.

Anya followed the direction of Revon's point until she too found the woman in the denim overalls. Luckily she was not outside Anya's field of vision, otherwise the spider queen would have just seen a big blue blur. However, upon seeing the wannabe lady farmer and hearing Revon's words, the spider queen's brows lofted in surprise.
"Oh."
This was...odd for Anya. Once upon a time she had found a thrill in people watching, especially when it came to those with what she felt was terrible fashion sense. It had been far too long since she had last done such a thing so now the act of calling out a horrible ensemble was, suddenly, new in a way. Also rather aweing, like she had never before considered it to be a thing.
But still...she couldn't very well deny it; overalls on this woman in particular were ghastly.
A shudder ripped through the Widow, the kind that went from her crown to her fingertips and made her very ribbon tremble with the effort. Her lavender eyes pinched shut and she made a face that was most certainly disgust.
"Those are terrible, but to pair overalls with Crocs?! Eugh!"

Revontulet made a noise that was a combination of a snort and a laugh, her hand moving to cover her nose and mouth as if she could prevent another one from escaping her. "Who pairs anything with crocs? They are atrocious!" Granted, she'd never worn them and couldn't know that most people wore them for comfort, but in her option there was no level of comfort that should allow for someone to wear something so revolting.
Despite the lack of her own pair of feet, Ren often admired the footwear of humans. She was amazed at the variety and, at times, the ridiculousness of some of them. While her favorite were certainly the fancy high-heeled variety, anyone wearing them here in the park today would simply be insane, so she didn't look for any. There were a few wedges though, the somewhat chunky and ugly step-sister of the elegant heel.
"Just look at those though," Ren said about a particularly unfortunate pair of wedges walking past, leaning towards Anya with a conspiratorial whisper, "The ribbon goes all the way up to her calf. Why wear shorts if you're going to cover your leg in that?"

Anya seemed to realize what she had said the moment after she had said it. A look of shock crossed her face and like Revon beside her she raised a hand to attempt to catch the sounds that had been made. Unlike the Aurora, Anastacia was far too late in her own actions to stifle what had already been said. Her words were out and Revon was reacting to them. Before she knew it, the spider queen was pivoting to see what the Aurora was whispering about. She caught the offending footwear just before it and its wearer were out of clear sight.
For a moment Anya mimicked a fish on land rather well. Her mouth moved, but no sound came out as any and all words were strangled by the alarm that had come upon her much like a sudden rogue wave or a slap across the face from a perceived friend. Revon was talking about the shoes, but the Virus Raevan had retreated somewhat into her own mind. Questions bubbled up from a mind suddenly boiling with the most prevalent of all being What just came over me?
Even on her best days she hadn't said nearly anything close to what she had just blurted out. Even on her best days...had she ever noticed what others around her had been wearing? She had noticed Zeke's hair when the vet had changed it up for his big birthday mark, but that had been rather thrust upon her. His clothing too was hard to miss, but Guardians were different than just every day people on the street you happened across. Zeke and Brad did not count in this.
The more she thought on this, the more she felt two things: distress at the sudden forefront for what had happened and was now occurring and, strange as it was and perhaps adding a little something to the first emotion spiking in her being, something like relief. The second sensation was not wholly like the word. To Anya, relief meant calmness, relaxation, and even an oddly pleasant draining feeling somewhere in the area of her shoulders and the lip where her torso became ribbon. The latter was there, but with it there was another feeling and she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"I..." The word worked its way out past everything trying to stop it and it was enough to make Anya turn her gaze over to the expectant Aurora. Revon was closer to her than she had been, but that wasn't something the older Frei honed in on right now. "I don't know. It's stupid."
Her words sounded stupid to her ears. But as they came out, struggling like soldiers trying so hard to get off a battlefield, the second notion grew in strength and that only gave those soldiering words more pep in their step.
"I don't...I don't like wedges. I've seen some very pretty heels before but wedges always look so..." Her hands moved and she tried to give shape to what she was vocalizing. She ended up holding them six inches apart and turning in opposite directions as if she were polishing something. "Chunky. Heels slim the foot down but wedges make them look massive and hoof-like. I can't...I can't see how anyone would want that for their feet."
