She looked around not really certain what to do next. Momma and Papa were gone. This time though they were buried and she knew they wouldn’t be coming back like when they had been captured. She sat at the edge of the turned up soil that was flecked with rocks. The adults who had been taking care of momma and papa said she had been lucky not to get sick on the trip. Asrahs didn’t feel lucky she felt alone and sad. Tracks marked the sides of her cheeks. Night was falling and it was getting a lot colder. Shivering she got up and started to look for a warm place to curl up. The people that buried momma and papa didn’t come back because they never notice she had snuck off the wagon to say goodbye. She was all alone now.

She stumbled alone in the waning light until she tripped and hit something sharp. Crying out she curled up and rubbed her knee just wanting to be with momma and papa again.

A few feet ahead of Asrahs was Viveka, who had been observing the burial of her parents with his partner, Natsu at his side. His face was sorrowful and distant, even as the caravan made it's way out of the village and out of sight. Two of his people, gone, it was an unpleasant sight.

Then, suddenly, the sound of a crying child drew him away from his sadness. Golden orbs swung towards Asrahs and grew wide with fright. A child? What was she doing out here all by herself? Was she the child of those people? He gulped, oh... Oh... Poor baby. She was all alone!

"Sweetheart, are you alright?" He asked, kneeling beside her. "Did you fall?"

I might do the same thing from time to time! XD; Don't hesitate to poke me if I take too long, either!

Natsu was just about to suggest venturing home when Viveka rushed over to the crying child behind them. Instantly, his father instincts kicked in, and he rushed over. He untied his favorite green blanket from his side and wrapped Asrahs in it, before kneeling down to inspect her knee.

"It's okay, it's okay." He cooed, stroking her hair. "It's only a little boo boo, it'll heal up just fine."

He gave her a quick snuggle and wrapped the blanket around her a little tighter, before sighing towards Viveka.

"How could they forget a child like this?" He said, shaking his head. "Poor thing's cold and shaking..." He turned his attention to Asrahs and smiled. "Would you like to come inside for some tea, sweetie? It'll warm you up."

A voice made her look up but only for a moment before something was wrapped around her making her stiffen in shock until she realized it was a blanket. A hand brushed her head as she looked at the two strangers fearfully. She didn’t know them and yet they were much to close right now. This time though she didn’t have momma and papa to hide behind. She shook her head at first because she had to stay goodbye still but something warm to drink would be nice. She looked at the place where he parents were buried before looking back up at the one who was stroking her hair. “Can I say goodbye?” Her voice was small and uncertain and she looked back to the graves. Her hand instinctively reached out and took the hand of the ice tribe man who was next to her. He reminded her of her momma for some reason.

Viveka watched as Asrahs shook her head and kept looking towards where the two bodies had just been buried. Suddenly, then, he understood.

"Oh, baby, of course you can say goodbye!" He exclaimed, his eyes welling with tears as she took his hand. "I lost my mother when I was little, too. I would never tell someone they couldn't say goodbye to theirs."

Natsu knelt beside Asrashs and adjusted the blanket around her. She was so small and shaken, he still couldn't believe that a caravan would just leave her behind! It was so cruel!

"Would you like me to play a song on my flute for them?" He asked, showing Asrashs his hand-made flute. "Or, maybe we can sing for them? I think they would like that..."

The big ice man lost his mommy too? That was really sad. When the other stranger knelt down beside her, Asrahs leaned a bit more toward the man whose hand she was holding. It wasn’t that the other scared her, but that he was really close. When he held out the flute she reached out a hand and felt the object. She knew it made music but wasn’t really sure what it was called. Considering his offer she glanced up at the ice man whose hand she was still holding. “Please.” She nodded to the music maker once. “For both our mommies and my daddy.” She looked back over her parents grave and tried her best to hum along with the melody.

Natsu nodded and raised the flute to his lips to play tune he had written before the war began. The tune had been a lullaby for a child who was dying in his village and needed to be lulled to sleep to keep from suffering through the pain of his illness. As he played the song, he let one of his hands reach out to Viveka for comfort, and closed his eyes. It was a soft, smooth melody that drifted along the air like a breeze at the end of the day, comforting and warm.

He played the tune for a good few minutes and lowered the flute, tears welling up in his eyes.

"I think that's the best I can do for now." He said.

Viveka kept a gentle hand clasped around Asrahs' as Natsu began to play, and soon closed his eyes as well. He allowed his body to sway, slightly, as the tune dipped and waved around them, his expression solemn but calm. The melody was one he hadn't heard before, but one that brought him back to the days where his mother would rock him to sleep beside the fire, and all of the holidays they'd spent together. He sighed at the ending and gazed between the pair, before looking towards where Asrahs' parents were buried.

"Do you think they liked the song, sweetie?" He asked, giving Asrahs' hand a squeeze. "...I mean... Do you think they would have?"

Asrahs listened to the music and it made her think of mommy’s night songs. She used to hold Asrahs close and rock her back and forth when Asrahs was small. It made her smile but she was crying too. It was all so strange. The warm hand that was still with her helped. Soon Asrahs was clutching the big ice man’s sleeve. She looked up at him with big tears really missing her mommy. She nodded once and looked back at where her mommy and papa were now under the dirt. She was sure her momma would have liked it and her papa would have said he didn’t but he would have been humming along like he did when momma sang her night songs. She looked up the music player. “Thank you.” She was taught to say that when people did good things for her. Looking back at the big ice man she had to ask him a question. “Did your mommy like it too?”

Viveka's eyes widened slightly at the question that Asrahs had posed. His mother? Would she have liked the song? His eyes shook with tears that he quickly wiped away as he scrambled to think of an answer.

"I... I think she did. She must've." He said, using his free hand to wipe Asrahs' tears away. "She would have loved to be here with you, too."

Natsu watched the pair as Viveka spoke and heaved a sigh. Playing that song had brought back the memory of the little boy he'd written it for. So small, sweet, and filled with life... He wished that he could have done something more for that boy when he was alive. But, now, as he gazed upon little Asrahs, he felt that this was a second chance.

"That song is a very special song." He said, kneeling down beside Asrahs. "I wrote it, just for sad things like this. ...Maybe I could teach it to you later, if you'd like?"

The big ice man’s hands were a bit rough feeling but very gentle. She gave him a hug and turned when the music player had spoken. Her eyes got wide as she nodded her head enthusiastically. She would very much like to learn to play that song. Then she could come back and play it for mommy and papa. Not only that but it was a special song that made it like learning a secret. No child’s heart could resist such an allure. She looked back and forth between the two adults. She guessed she was going to go with them if she wanted to learn the song. She looked down at her dirty feet thinking hard. Was it really ok to just go with them? But she didn’t have anywhere else and the other people she would have ended up with were strangers as well. Wriggling her toes she looked at the music player. “Is it ok? For me to stay with you?”

Natsu's eyes widened sharply as if Asrahs had shouted. Of course it was okay if she stayed with them! She was just a little tiny thing who needed a new place to stay and some cuddling! He practically melted at her words, she was so precious!

"Of course you can stay with us, darling!" He cooed, smoothing his hands over her hair. "We have plenty of room and we'd love to have you! You sweet little thiiing!"

Viveka watched Natsu as her fussed over Asrahs and smiled. Poor little thing, though, he gave Asrahs a nuzzle. They were just gonna scoop her up and take her away, but the memory of her parents would always remain. He never forgot his mom, no matter how hard he'd tried.

"Shall we head inside now?" He asked Asrahs. "It'll be much warmer in there."
