Melvin had been in a panic since arriving to the island, and everything was pulling him from one side to the next, bordering complete grief over loosing Rin to a distant hope that she was alive. Twitter had not helped his decisions as, on one hand, people had admitted that those who were sure to have died had actually returned back to life, but on the other hand, they had to be in a certain condition. He had seen Rin. Remembered what had happened, but when the backdrop of her murder was world splitting, sky shattering, people turning into monsters, and Death itself showing up, you had to question if that was real as well. How many times had he "died" in one way or another? How many times had he been in a place and world that turned out to all be fake? How many times had he encountered time stopping, worlds changing, and great magic showing itself in front of him? A person coming back from the dead didn't seem impossible given those possibilities, and for someone who didn't want to think that Rin wasn't HERE anymore, it was a possibility he savored.
But there were conditions. Twitter had said that those who came back had woken up in the morgue, and upon arriving on the island had being told Rin was "dead," he was told when she would be cremated. He didn't have time to spare. If she had the possibility to come back, then having he be burned alive was him letting her be murdered. It was his responsibility to protect her until she made her return, and letting anything happen to her body meant he would allow her to be killed and would have failed her. He hat to let her come back, and that meant he had to take her body.
He was allowed to see her, seeing as he had been the one closest to her, and had only managed to take off his jacket to hang in his room and changed his clothes, forgoing the shower, changed his gloves, and grabbed a duffel bag from his shelf. He dumped the clothes he kept onto the floor and then headed out.
In the morgue, he arrived grim-faced and head down. It wasn't so much as act as he didn't look forward to what he had to do. He didn't like seeing Rin here, or how she was. Not under these lights, under these people who had seen her like this without knowing her.
"Can I have a moment? Before I have to leave." He said, glancing at the duffel bag he had left by the door under the guise that he had been called off the island for an emergency. There were many missions that happened on the island, and Jordan had just informed him many people left to go off island for them. It was a perfect excuse.
The attendant glanced at him before heading out and Melvin waited a few moments before he darted for his bag, heaving the heavy golem inside over to Rin's open shelf.
He pulled it away fully, unzipping the bag and rearing back as the smell of blood and open body organs assaulted him. He didn't have time. He had to be quick. He grabbed the apron from the counter and put it on, not needing blood on him when he left, and then opened the duffle. He threw the golem on the floor before he slowly cupped Rin and moved her down into the bag. He had made sure to line it with plastic, not sure if she would drip or not and not wanting anyone to see any stains. For someone who wanted to make sure all things were clean, these were things you had to consider. They were things that just came naturally to his mind when thinking. Funny how it worked for these situations – situations he never took part in ever. It sounded like something someone else would do.
He had to take a moment, arranging Rin and then going back to the bag to take her arm and find space in the duffel for it. He made a note that, in the future, he needed a bigger bag. Human sized. Something that would fit her more kindly then the one he currently owned. It was a good thing she was thin and the open wound helped take up less space. He heaved the Golem in, arranging it like a sleeping person, and quickly zipped it up.
Heart racing, he threw the apron in the trash and put the lid on it, and then went to grab some towels to wipe up the blood that had dipped outside of the body bag and then wash his hands.
He shoved the shelf back in, closed it and then slung the duffle onto his back.
She was stone cold and felt more like a ham left in the fridge than a person – his everything.
He headed to the door. He had to hid her someplace her body wouldn't rot. A pod maybe – or maybe the arctic. No one would find her there. It was Rep's place after all, and there was still old Life equipment there.
Rep did message him to say to keep distracted with a project until Rin returned.

"...yes, well, not every corpse has traces of..." H was walking toward the morgue, Stephen in tow. Noting Melvin, the man smiled, "Ah, excellent. See, we have a little helper right here to assist. How delightful it is to have such dedicated underlings." They stepped back into the morgue, the doctor catching Melvin's elbow and dragging him back him.
The duffel he took and tossed to the side with a meaty squelch that was noted with only a brief, "Collecting specimens from here? How wonderfully crass your entire existence must be, my dear."

He was just out the door and turning down the hallway, already making plans on what he had to do once out of the Infirmary and how to possible get to a portal. If anything, he decided he could place Rin in a pod for a moment, hoping the sensors didn't beep upon finding a dead body inside and if anything he could just beat the s**t out of the equipment until it was quiet (or turn it off in a way that still allowed it to remain cold) and then he could bribe someone at a portal to let him through to the arctic without checking his bag.
These thoughts smacked into a concrete wall the moment H came around the corner and Dr. Stephen in tow. He didn't give a rat's a** about H, but the man was still the Lead of the division and a respected doctor, and Dr. Stephen – well, Melvin cared about that man's opinion. He too was a respected doctor and who's opinion he cared about a lot more.
Just move. Duffels aren't suspicious. We live in a military island. I'm just some guy going to a mission.
He tried to just look ahead, ignoring the two and looking dead at the exit. Don't walk too fast, but don't slow down. Just move.
It took a moment to realize that Dr. H (aka a*****e Dumbledore) was even talking to him, and his arm was seized in a grip that said that he was not going anywhere. Jerking, he stepped backwards before he turned and looked wide-eyed at the doctor who was now taking him BACK to the morgue.
Oh s**t! Oh SHTI! ******** Christ! What the hell do I do? If they took her to see Rin, then he was screwed. They would know she was gone, and he had the evidence just sitting on his shoulders.
But they already knew.
Dr. H had torn the duffle form his shoulders and while Melvin reached out for it, Dr. H tossed it to the ground. The sound made him wince and he felt his chest constrict. Rin. Oh god, he hoped she was okay. She had enough healing to do without a concussion.
Specimens.
He gritted his teeth. "Coming from you…" He said, leaving that part in the air as he went to reach for the bag again.
Maybe he could play this off. Specimens. Did they take bodies from the morgue to use.
"I…need to take this somewhere." He said, barely managing to say this as he tried to work on the fly that maybe Dr. H would think he was running some Lifer errands and delivering Rin's body somewhere. Maybe he could still get away with her.
…
..and then he'd have to make up some excuse as to where her body went. He would have to see if he could bribe someone to fake some reports about what she was used for.
Oh god this was getting more and more complicated, and he tried not to look at Dr. Stephan at all as he grabbed the armband to his bag.
For a morgue, it sure was hot in here.

"Mr. Wood," the doctor answered, "what you need to do, is assist us with this autopsy. There was something strange about the first one, and now I need to see for myself." He pulled out a drawer. It was Rin's. "Do put that down, there are no matters more pressing than a direct order from myself."

" autopsy?!" Melvin said, staring at the hand on Rin's shelf.
He wanted him to help cutting Rin up. He was here to look at Rin. To rip her apart.
Something is wrong, Melvin. It sound serious.
What was serious was that they would find out Rin wasn't in her shelf but a golem instead. They would know the specimen was Rin, that he was taking her, and he wouldn't be able to lie to say it was an official specimen transfer. Not in the bag he was using. Deus was rather shitty, but it wasn't shitty enough not to give a body bag and a gurney to a dead body that needed moving.
The infractions against him were being compiled in his head, but overall, that didn't seem important. Being caught wasn't as important as getting Rin away from the two doctors without anyone coming after her.
He just…he just had to think.
He felt rather smart, but his intelligence wasn't geared to helping him steal bodies from morgues and making excuses to doctors wanting to hack away at someone he loved.
"I…I don't think I'm qualified for that sort of thing. I think a nurse with more experience and some training would be better to help you two out. I just do basic work in the Infirmary. I can go grab a nurse for you right now." He stepped closer to the door, his bag still in his hand.
The threat of a direct order was not as important to him – not from Dr. H – than getting Rin away. Away from the two men who wanted to rip her apart.
His eyes were still on the hands on Rin's shelf. "The mortician said not to open that. He had to check a few things."
He had to delay them from opening the body bag and finding out.
He positioned himself closer to the door, away from the two men.
"He said he'd be right back. He was running a few tests." If they were here for something suspicious, maybe that would work.
As a backup, he glanced around for anything that might stop the two men. They were WAY above his power level and he knew that he wouldn't be able to win or even intimidate them if he pulled out his gun. It would be like shooting a water pistol at two men in full body armor. Did this place even have a sprinkler system? What about a small fire he could start that would easily consume the room.
If he got to a portal, maybe he could just leave forever if need be. He just had to go someplace and wait for Rin to come back. Just wait out somewhere and once she was alive, he would take whatever punishment needed if that was the case.

At Melvin's behavior, Stephen began to grow visibly concerned while H seemed to become increasingly interested. The former increased significantly when the leader turned and said, "Leave us, Stephen. And lock the door behind you."

For a moment, he glanced at Dr. Stephen, at one part glad he was being allowed to leave. Whatever happened, he didn't want the doctor to know. On the other hand, without him, it was just Melvin and H in one room and he wasn't sure that not having a witness would work in his favor.
Locking the door was just something that screamed as wrong.
"If you lock the door, the mortician can't come in here." He was sweating bullets now. "It needs to be left unlocked."
He was grabbing at straws and moved closer to the door. Maybe he could toss his jacket at the door to keep it from locking? Did he have a credit card to open it? Maybe he could just shoot at the lock if all else failed.
Or maybe he should go now?
"It's a fire hazard." He continued to ramble.
He glanced at Dr. Stephan and decided he could follow him. "Ah, so I guess - that um - the autopsy is off. If you don't need me, then - uh - I'll be going. I still have to run that errand." He moved to the door.
He just had to go now.

The doctor's hand wrapped around Melvin's bicep in a gentle grip that would stay firm and unmoved unless Melvin had the gall to summon his weapon and the burst of strength that would come with such an action. Stephen gave the hunter a charming smile and got the ******** out of there. The sound of a lock being snapped shut rang throughout the room.
"What did you do?" The doctor was grinning as he asked, eyes lively with a strange sort of mirth the Rep likely associated with very steady hands cupped around his very unsteady heart.

Dr. Stephan gave a gentle smile and for a moment, Melvin just wanted to cry at the fact such a kind offering was being given before the Dr. left him – and shut the door
For someone with such nice teeth, that was a d**k move.
d**k move, Dr. Stephan. Melvin thought you were going to be nice. He thought they had a thing going there just now.
Eyes on the now locked door, he felt that hand on his arm and then tried to pull it away. He had no idea where that hand had been and he didn't like it on him. They weren't friends and Dr. H had no right touching him. Even Rep barely had that permission.
Stepping away and turning away from the door to look at the Dr., he decided he could try testing the door with his back to it. Maybe he could jiggle it enough and break the handle?
"What do you mean?" He said, playing dumb. He could feel a bead of cold sweat trailing down from his shoulder blades down his spine.
If there was one thing he was good at, it was asking questions.
"We're both busy people, and I need to be going. I can help you with this matter at a later time if you still need me." He tested the door. Yup, it was locked. He held the handle and this time he tries pulling down on the handle in hopes it would break.
"Why did you send Dr. Stephan away?" He asked, but he had a very grave sense of what the answer was.

The doctor simply stared at him and held on, unimpressed by either the attempt to pull away or the attempt to play dumb. He did, however answer that last question with a gentle, reassuring smile. "In case I need to reach into you back and removed that spine you always show at the more regrettable times, my dear. Now, explain to me why I should not."

He was getting really sick of that 'my dear' bs, especially when it was used when giving a threat. Did he think it was cute?
He just wants to intimidate you.
Well....he doesn't need to say that to do it.
So far, Dr. H didn't know anything. Rin was at his back, away from the doctor. They hadn't opened the bag. Dr. Stephan had left which meant no autopsy would be preformed without him present. In all actuality, things were actually rather good. The locked door was the only problem.
All Melvin had to do was find a way to leave.
"Cause....only crazy people just rip spines out of people for no reason." He doubted appealing to anyone's sanity on this island was a worthwhile tactic.
He tried to recall what Dr. H had said to him in the past.
"You can't really use me if I'm just a mess on the floor. I wouldn't be a resource anymore and don't you hate waste.....my dear." The last part nearly had him gagging. The Doctor could choke on that last part, but if Dr. H was going to dish out a repulsive ending tag to his words, Melvin could do that too in hopes he would stop it. It was annoying to keep saying it to him, and he didn't like it being used. He wasn't anyone's "dear" other than Rin's, and even she didn't say that. He didn't get why Dr. H even used it. It was a strange thing to say even on this island, and it made him feel as if he was referring to him as if he was some little girl.
He continued to press hard on the door handle to test how much a hunter's strength worked against everyday household items. Knobs broke off all the time just by normal people. He was sure he could "accidentally" break this one.
Oh god, please break off.
Again, he tried to shake Dr. H off his arm. It was creepy.

The hand lifted, freeing Melvin. Unfortunately that freedom came at cost, as the Doctor no took hold of the bag instead, noting a growing damp spot. "I can make use of anyone. It's simply a matter of how. And if they're worth the effort." He began to pull open one of the zippers. "And if the cost of their presence outweighs the benefits."

A hand went up and gripped Dr. H's wrist as he went to pull the zipper and jerked the bag away, eyes wide before glaring at him and using his other hand to touch the bag, holding it in place and turning it away from the Dr. who wanted to clearly look at it now.
He knew. He was sure he knew now. If he didn't, then he had to keep the bag again. If he did, then he had to keep the bag away.
"That's not yours."
He didn't like how Dr. H continued to preach how he used people. He didn't like thinking that both he and Rin were working under this man when he clearly got hard off of using them. He didn't have to respect a man who was like this, and he wasn't going to let his filthy hands dig into Rin's insides let alone touch the bag she was in.

Melvin released the hand and tried the door again, this time not caring if it even made a noise and just trying to break the damn thing. He was being made a hostage and he didn't like being threatened. His heart was pounding as he was being pressed into a corner. He just went through hell at the horsemen tower and this guy wanted to steal Rin to do whatever the hell he had thought up in that head of his. He wasn't going to allow it. Rin was HIS. Rin was precious - not some body he could tear apart while talking to Dr. Stephan.
"I don't know where you get your ideas, but No it's not."
He didn't deserve everything. He didn't own him. He didn't own Rin.
