Early in the morning the filly awoke, trying to stretch the uncontrollable legs of her. She would have expected herself to experience the norm - collapse to the ground after standing for a couple of seconds. This morning, it was different though, her legs were stable, and she was able to stand for quite a long time - seconds to minutes in fact. Bewildered, the filly attempted to place one hoof in front of the other, and though there was some awkward wobbling involved, she was able to successfully "walk." Oh, the ecstasy found inside of her was unbelievable.

To show off her newly developed skill, the blue filly decided that it would be best to try running, and she did as she was limited to - the thickets of her "parents," but quickly made way into the fields passed where she once called home. She was free, and she wanted to know more about the world. There was now light, for there was hardly any in the thicket, and she was amazed by the beauty of everything around her. The things underneath her seemed to be curious about her too, trying to feel her hooves. So the filly looked down to her newly found company. What were they called again? Oh, flowers.

She took in the smells of almost anything the little nostrils of her were able to, that was, until she smelled something really different, but something that sort of smelled like her. Her tiny heart panicked. Was her father here to scold her and bring her back home?
"Please don't hurt me!" she plead, eyes flashing wide with fear.

Avant Resari had lost sight of the rabbit he'd been lazily stalking. He wasn't hungry, nor did he desire to actually kill the little thing. There wasn't much satisfaction in it. He was just... bored. And scaring it half to death was mildly entertaining. Still, there had to be something better to do.

His little journey had taken him out of his homelands, had him standing in the plains that led toward the breeding thickets. Avant frowned at them. annoyed with the whole prospect for multiple reasons. He had plans in the works, sure, but there were a great many things that could go wrong between now and then. Avant brooded on a great many of those things until he heard a small voice.

"Please don't hurt me!"

Avant craned his neck around and saw a foal, newly walking it looked like, staring in his direction, eyes showing nothing but fear. He snorted, turning around to look at her, and to show her who it was she was talking too. He mantled his wings out, red and white feathers showing underneath, and slid his tail back and forth. Semi-menacing, but he didn't snarl or show his fangs, just regarded her with his very red eyes.

It was strange, though, for a foal so young to know to fear a Kalona. Did the others truly fear his kind so much they would terrify their own children before they were able to even walk properly?

"I hadn't intended to, little one." He said smoothly, folding his wings back down because he didn't like to intimidate foals too much. One never knew what they were going to grow into. Or who their parents were. Besides, if he was nice enough, they may get themselves into a great deal of trouble, thinking that Kalona's were like he was. "You seem to have wondered far from your parents. Aren't they missing you?"

Ctet stood, not knowing what the stallion would do, especially with his fearsome figure. Not only were the wings large, but they were also pretty intimidating. Not to mention that crooked tail of his. It reminded her too much or a lizard's. He was not normal, and she did not like that. It was just unnatural for her to be around someone like him.

It was just out of luck that the stallion did not come any closer, she needed to keep her distance away from him, but where would she be able to go? It wasn't like she would be able to run away from him, just look at his muscles compared to her's!

"Why are you here?" she questioned, taking a curious step forth. He did say that he did not want to hurt her anyways, and pulled her neck forth, taking in his smell. Yuck! It was nothing like the field or thicket, so he was definitely not from here. Her nose wrinkled, and lifted a hoof as if wanting to feel him. She wanted to know more about him.

"My parents are too busy to miss me. Where are your parents?" she playfully asked, peeking behind him to make sure that he was alone.

Avant looked down at the foal, surprised she hadn't just run away already. It wouldn't be the first, or the last, time a foal simply took one look at him and scampered back to their parents. Or parent. Or however their situation had them do. Even as a foal, he'd never run away. That was out of sheer mind numbing bloody stubbornness, and a bit of arrogance. Still, it was strange to see any foal mirror that aspect, even if her reasons for not running were different.

"I am here because this is where my hunt ended." Avant replied simply. There was no need to lie, at this point, because that was as good as any reason he could think of. He watched her try to scent him, and find whatever he smelled like displeasing. She also, apparently, wanted to touch him.

That was not something he was going to allow. He turned slightly away from her and brought his tail around, touching her leg lightly and hopefully passing on the message that he didn't want her touching him.

"Usually when children say that their parents are too busy, they are lying, and I have to deal with irate parents thinking I am trying to kidnap their young." Avant said softly. "So I do hope you are not lying to me, little one." He bared his fangs at her, just to get the point across. He wouldn't tolerate her lies, if she was lying. If she wasn't... Well, he would probably just leave her there to fend for herself after too long. "And my father is dealing with his own life, as adult do. Possibly collecting more of his 'doves'. My mother was cursed as a skinwalker and would eat you and I both if she where here." Avant shrugged his shoulders, shaking his braided mane. "What are you doing out here alone, little one? The world is a much bigger place than you realize, with greater dangers that you could dream."

She screamed when the tail tapped her. She didn't want to be killed now! Soon enough she stopped, seeing that there was no point of starling herself in front of the stallion. Get a grip, he won't do anything bad to you. she thought, trying to remain optimistic at the moment. "Wha. . . what were you hunting?" She then tried to do what the stallion did, maneuver her tail, but with no luck. Feathers were not that flexible compared to the kalona's.

Ctet then flicked her ears hearing the rest that he had to say. Lying? He thought that she was lying to him. How could she lie when she was hardly able to walk? As much as she wanted to run back home after seeing the ferocious fangs of his, not realizing that he was probably a meat eater until now, she did not. So she decided to hide her fear by giggling. A foal's laughter would surely lighten his mood, right?
"Why would I lie to you?" she asked, shaking her head. She wanted to not be afraid of him, and hoped that the fear inside of her would leave soon enough. If only.

"Wait. So you just let her become cursed?" she questioned. Unbelievable! Was there not a heart found in this stranger? "Did you at least do something to whoever did this to her?" Her mind flew back to the nursery stories that Volaille would speak to her, of how skinwalkers came to be, and how the angenis would always try to shine a light, of how sometimes the bad can come to the good, which is what prompted her next line.

"Did you love your mother?" Ctet then lowered her head a bit, realizing that she probably drew the line, so just answered his question. "I just learned to walk on my own, and I guess my walk lead me to you." The last thing that the kalona said was just pushed out of her little mind. Why think about the world being a big place when you can take it one step at a time?

Avant pinned his ears back to try and block out the screaming, as hilarious as he found it it was still shrill and hard on the ears. He allowed himself a chuckle as she stopped, faint enough that he didn't know if she would hear it or not. The little filly was amusing, if for no other reason than she was so afraid of him, yet still stood there asking questions. It wasn't like she could be long out of her basket, yet she still has such an interest in the world.

"I was stalking a rabbit, trying to alleviate some of my boredom, little one. Don't worry, I didn't actually kill it." He thought that she would have been upset if he told her he had. Well, he hadn't, and didn't feel like lying to make her upset. It just... wasn't worth the aggravation.

He flicked an ear when she started giggling, wondering why. Perhaps it was to make him think she wasn't afraid. Well. That was a silly notion. Foals were such silly things. "Because everyone lies, sooner or later. You, me, your parents. My parents. Everyone."

Her apparent outrage about his mother was slightly endearing. "As I believe I was still in a basket when this came about, yes, I just let her become cursed." Avant shrugged. It didn't bother him. "My mother is... more of an idea rather than a reality. I have never met her, and wouldn't choose to try to save her, or punish whoever did it too her. She means less to me than you do, little one, for she and I would attempt to kill each other if we crossed paths in the way you and I have. So, no, I cannot say I love her. Or ever have."

It was strange, confessing this all to the little filly. Perhaps his special someone was right in desiring foals of their own, or as close to their own as possible.

"You just learned to walk. Fate has some strange ideas if the first living thing you run into on your first little walk is... me." He snorted, amused by the prospect.

Ctet looked at him with wonder when he mentioned that he was stalking a rabbit. Now what in the world was a rabbit? She had heard the word in her basket before, but she did not know what it was, and now that the creepy dude said that word too, she was more than ever curious about the world.

"I think you're lying then." she said defiantly. "Lying is bad, and you should know that." The foal was enraged that the stallion would even consider everyone potentially lying! What a liar he was! Just thinking about her own parents and herself creating a bundles of lies just hurt her, and she did not want to think anymore of that.

She soon behaved herself once more after hearing his own perspective of his mother and his story. She could not imagine not knowing the loving side of her own mother - what if Mirabilis was cursed herself? Would her mother try to eat her? She knew that the cursed was just a killer, leaving the innocent behind.

"I'm so sorry. . ." she mumbled. There was no need to be sympathetic, he was an adult already. "Maybe fate wanted me to meet some oddly friendly, but scary stranger." she shrugged. Ctet was comfortable around this stallion now, and did not care if he did or did not. They would not see each other for long anyways, but he would always be remembered in her mind.

"I'm Ctet, and you are?"

Avant laughed softly at her expression, wondering if he should go and find a rabbit to show the little filly. Of course, showing her a bloody corpse would probably only scar her for life. Well, it would make an interesting impression, wouldn't it?

"You think I'm lying?" He laughed loudly at that, folding his wings in front of himself, because that, that was funny. "Yes, I lie. A great deal of the time. But, for whatever reason, I have no lied to you, foal." Avant watched her get angry, and decided that it was cute. "Lying is useful, you should never forget that. And Everyone. Lies. You will find that out soon enough, little one."

Avant shrugged his wings. "Not all lies are bad ones. Sometimes those close to you will lie to protect you, not to harm you. Lies are just... part of the world works."

Frowning a bit, Avant shook his head. "You don't have to apologize for something that was not your fault. You were not even born, little one." He didn't even know why he told her about his mother.

"Do you believe in fate?" That was a strange question for such a young foal, but she brought it up. "Oddly friendly... that is not how people normally describe me. Scary is more accurate."

He also didn't know why he was being so... friendly with the little filly. Perhaps it was just because she was just so... small. What sort of joy could they be in tormenting her?

"Well met, Ctet. I am Avant Resari." He nodded his head. "You can call me Avant, if you wish it.

"But lies can hurt others too." she whispered, turning away from the stallion. She did not want him to laugh at her anymore, this was just too much. It felt fine for her to giggle, but his laughter? It was like mockery, and she could not handle that anymore.

Hearing him express her unnecessary apology just made her feel worse. Of course she wanted to feel bad for him, but he was pushing it away. Was he just scared of opening up? The next question caught her attention once more, and she just had to look at him with more curiosity.

"My dad told me that fate is the reason for everything." Ctet blinked, wondering if what she was saying even meant anything to her. Now that she was being questioned about fate, she did not really know what fate even was - simply just a word her father once said to her.

"I would have thought that strangers don't really speak with foals, just seeing as as cute, but annoying creatures, but you are still here, so that makes you," she beamed with pride, smiling, "friendly."

As naive as she was, she really believed that the stallion was friendly. First impressions meant a lot to her, and by the looks of it, this stallion was okay. Avant Resari. The name hurt her head a bit, confused of why he had two parts to a name. Was that the norm in the world? Why wasn't she given two parts too? So Avant it was, just to make her feel like an equal with names.

His laughter seem to hurt her feelings, but he couldn't bring himself to care, really. Avant did stop laughing, but only because the time for that humor had passed.

"Yes, lies can hurt others too." He agreed. "Sometimes that's entirely the point, little one, to hurt others." Avant bared his teeth in a poor imitation of a smile. "You'll find that out soon enough as well. Others will lie to you, to hurt you, to protect you, it doesn't really matter why. They will lie to you." He tilted his head, a sudden thought occurring to him as he looked down at her. "But I will not. Not even after you grow up and becoming more annoying then you are no. You have my word that I will never lie to you."

He snorted at the idea of 'fate'. Those were not his beliefs, but he didn't want to try to explain the Song that ran though his family or the Fayth that they believed it. It would be a bit too complicated for the filly to understand. It was something one had to feel, anyway. It was a hell of a thing to explain.

"You should ask your father why he believes that, see if you get some platitude or an actual answer. A great many believe in things just because they are told too." Avant tilted his head to the side with a smirk.

"Strangers are normally not allowed to speak with foals, as their parents are quick to spirit them away from any potential danger. As your parents really should do, Ctet." He shrugged one wing. "I do not find you annoying. Most foals I have come across yes, but you have an... innocence about you that does not annoy. I don't know if that makes me friendly, but... as you say."

Avant thought it was amusing that she could consider him friendly. She'd already gotten a promise out of him that he'd only made to one other, but he figured it was harmless. He didn't think he'd see her again after this chance meeting. But he really didn't lie as much as he claimed too. The truth was often much more painful.

He looked at her smile, and smirked, wondering exactly how he'd ended up here, today of all days.

Ctet listened, heated as Avant sided more with lying than with telling the truth. Where were his morals? She then took into consideration of what he said next. To hurt you, to protect you. That was even more confusing than of why he had two parts to his name. But then he said that he would never lie to her, and Ctet, having good judgement of others took that to her heart. She believed him, for what was the reason that he would lie to her? She did not do anything to harm him in any way.

"Do you promise? That you would not lie to me?" she questioned, wondering what he meant by that. "I mean, what if we cross paths again, but you tell me a different story? Like you change your name or something, because I would always remember you Avant."

When told to ask Volaille of why fate was something he believed in, she tried to copy Avant's smirk, only to bite her tongue a bit. Maybe a smirk was not her type of smile. Just hearing him speak about how parents are supposed to be parental made her only frown and she turned away from him, wobbling a couple steps away from where she was seconds before.

It was quite amusing, watching the wheels turn in her little head. He might have to seek her out again once she was grown, see if she lost some of her ignorance. It wasn't a bad thing, nor did he mean it in a bad way. She was young, and he was curious as to how she would develop.

"I already gave you my word, but if you wish it, I promise that I will never lie to you." Avant shrugged. "I will tell you the same story. I will always tell you the truth, little one, no matter how much you will not want to hear it, from me or anyone else." He smiled softly, amused. "Yes, I suppose you will always remember me.

Her behavior was strange, making him raise an eyebrow. Were her parents not... parental? Even his father, the pure that he may be, had made sure they were safe until they were large enough to make sure of that on their own. It was strange to think of his father that way, but it was also true. "Are you having troubles at home, little one? Is that why you are out here, all alone?" He couldn't tell you why he cared, but he was intrigued, to say the least.
