Huh... Noone need those in such a huge amount right? Unless they release new formulas rather soon, I honestly think they just say "oh look, we will be nice and release alchemy components. but we need to make it a huuuggee goldsink, so let's release them in huge amount at the same time". But... they probably didn't really think twice and check what they are used for XD
Edit: Sorry for the sarcasm... I'm hungry *goes to cook something to eat*

Because they knew someone would buy them. The person who did probably is going to be selling them in lots or individually. I can't see very many people (other than dedicated alchemists) using them. So the person who bought them was probably going for profit.

I honestly don't think this is such a bad idea.......
First of all, it's a huge goldsink. There are plenty of people who would rather buy them in bulk. If I could afford it, I would. Based on the sheer number of the components, you would actually get a good deal on them. Notice how when the guild bid on the bulk order of Demonflies and Great Monarchs, we got them for around 60% of the ABP. Even if you don't use all 1000 components, that is still a VERY good deal.
There are very very few vendors who would spend billions to gamble on making a profit in Alchemy components. I'm not saying that everyone who bids on them are Alchemists, but a good number are, even if they don't post on the forums or are in the guild.
Second of all, it's perfectly within those people's rights to resell the Alchemy components. Unlike the precious backwings formula and rare bugs, these components are readily available to anyone who cares to put in the hours. That is to say, it is a renewable resource. This is why I don't have an issue with a vendor getting those components. If someone wants to sell components in bulk for ridiculously high prices, they're free to do so. As my boyfriend likes to say, "Anyone can list something for a stupidly high price. The real idiots are the ones who buy things at stupidly high prices." Those of us who can't afford or don't care to bid won't be buying those components anyway.
What's important is that gold is flowing out of the system.
Also, I don't think Gaia is stupid enough to just put in Alchemy components without knowing the market. I don't like the company's GC policy that much, but the guys running this ship is smarter than what most people give them credit for. If they needed space fillers, there are plenty of Starter Items they could tack on in the end.

But... isn't 1000 a little overkill? They could have done smaller amounts like 100, 250 or 500 (I don't know how much a formula require, so it's hard to judge here). This way, it would have made it more accessible to some others trying to get some which doesn't want or can't spend as much for stuff they don't need. Sure, people can do group actions, but it's not everyone that really want to trust others to do that. And... they could have listed more than one listing, which would have still removed gold smile
And I said I needed to eat when I wrote my comment; it's just that sometimes I really do feel like they want to help alchemy but they don't add anything new to it sad That said, I just hope they will consider adding various amounts of bundles in the future smile

1000 makes it a better goldsink. 100 wouldn't get nearly as much money spent on it. Besides, one person can buy it and then spread around what they don't use, selling for a profit, donating to other alchemists, or anything else. I do feel sorry for alchemists who fund their craft by making those components, though, because it probably isn't great on the market. Luckily, there are enough different components to allow them to craft something else when one thing becomes problematic.
I wish they would release more of the backwings quests, simply because I figure it would flood the market and probably drive down the price a little. The price of alchemist cases is crazy, so it's really the only good way to get those quests.
On the note of the cases, I wish they'd clean it up and remove formulas that can't be crafted due to extinct components, or flood the market with said components so that we can use them (I.E. old aquarium drops or rig items). They do this sometimes, but I look forward to them doing it more often.
On a side note, does anyone know why people bid high prices on the starter items? 0_o

They could definetly at least reduce the probabilities on some formulas from the cases; while one could say they aren't that harder to do than another, there's still formulas which aren't really easy to do nor something most people really want to get. As for the starter items... they shouldn't even add those there -- especially with the current goldsink. Because I did read some people bid on those only to sink gold.... which I find a way which is a little stupid considering the fact Loyal's project is more interesting if one really want to get rid of their gold. Excluding that current project, one could buy stuff from the gold shops and gift them if they really want to get rid of gold instead of bidding on starter items which doesn't give you anything XD If it's for achievements purposes (ie. bidding war), there's some way more easier way to get it, no?

Exactly. Because I opened about 20 cases one time and ended up with ALL of the flying imp potions and not much else. -_- Yeah, Loyal's goldsink is well worth more than those starter items, particularly when we've still got so far to go. We're still 10 trillion away from the next reward, after all! And for bidding war, bid on something you actually want, right? Flynn's usually got good stuff there. Just because you're trying to sink the gold doesn't mean you have to waste it. : (
