Eanah was an intelligent young woman. She had realized months ago that there would come a time when her pregnancy would render her too cumbersome to travel, but when that time came she chose to ignore the danger, insisting on heading out to push back the Mara scourge as soon as she learned there was such a thing. She wasn't just antsy anymore. This was a whole new level of restlessness.
Worried for Eanah and their child, but reluctant to deny her anything, Leyn had agreed to accompany her on a hunt for the magical creatures. Thren, who regularly refused to carry his bonded anywhere, was quick to insist on joining them and acting as mount. Eanah could tell by the images in his mind that even though he thought the entire endeavor was idiotic, he was determined to keep her safe, no matter the cause or impossibility.
"You know you cannot actually fly with me on your back. Especially now." Though she had finally come to terms with having a surprise baby, Eanah remained quite self conscious about her appearance.
"You would be surprised by what I can do."
The Oblivionite managed to stifle a chuckle at his attempt at mystery. She was immensely proud of herself for it.
They had anticipated having some difficulty locating the Mara since they had never come across any by chance, but as it turned out, they had simply been looking in the wrong place. Once they headed in the direction advised by Draco, the trio found a straggler immediately. The rock-skinned Mara was huge, larger than Thren, but it seemed weak as well, held together by spells and hopes. She gave Leyn a meaningful look, suggesting that they attack with a shake of her head, but the other mage didn't respond. He flashed Thren a brief signal instead, and the two of them turned to retreat, leaving Eanah to either accept the delay or jump off of the khehora's back and close in herself. Reluctantly, she chose the former.
"Why are we turning back?" she whispered once they were out of the Mara's presumed earshot.
Leyn replied calmly, opening the flap of his satchel and rummaging around inside. "I thought you might like to regroup before you run in at half your usual mobility." He grinned somewhat sarcastically, handing her several Peisio and Ysali orbs as he stood on his toes, grin pursing as he pecked her on the nose.
Eanah wanted to stay irritated, but she couldn't, not when his teasing kiss coaxed a smile from her that she couldn't hide. "All right," she said, pocketing the orbs. "As long as we get around to killing the things eventually."
