After the clan had successfully made it to the caves, a place they tended to go when a great threat showed itself, things felt at least a little bit safer. Sure, it wasn't ideal, nobody wanted to be stuck inside all day, the little whelps especially, but it was better then being open to attack by those creepy rock men. From what they gathered from other members of the group, as well as guests like Tallulah, they weren't just made of rock. There were other sorts as well to contend with, like those made of metal that appeared almost like knights. No matter what their appearance though Eyphah didn't much care for their arrival. It just meant one more danger that was out there threatening his family and friends, not to mention threatening little whelps like Nehelini. Sure, he wasn't really the best when it came to the two-legs, he saw them as both rivals and a source of food, but that didn't mean he picked on the little ones. Even he had standards but those creatures, they were different, they seemed to be after anything with a pulse.
It was a couple days after their arrival at the caves that they got word from the greatest among them, Rhaze and Anodyne, with word about what the creatures were. It would appear as though a group of the two-legs had created living weapons that escaped their control. It would appear as though the two-legs were pretty terrible at keeping control of things, weren't they? No matter though, the origins of the creatures that were being referred to as 'Mara' didn't really matter to him, not as much as the fact that there was a bounty on the heads of those creatures. Fighting for fun was always good, fighting for profit was better, and doing both at the same time was just ideal. It was why he had headed out almost straight away, having told only his mother and Tallulah where he was going. He go out, do an initial strike against them, and see how dangerous they really were. From there he would decide if he wanted to bring Tallulah along with him, he didn't want to risk the safety of the Merkora after all. Not to mention that he seemed to be hellbent on protecting that little two-leg whelp he found. Best that he stayed behind for the moment to tend him. Eyphah on the other hand would 'tend' to the Mara.
It seemed that they were out in droves too, probably upset that some of them had been destroyed by those who would weren't about just roll over for them. The Diabi especially saw no desire to do anything but beat them all to smithereens and that was what he meant to do with all of them that he came across. The first group of the creatures he came across were some big, brutish looking guys that appeared as though they were made mostly of brown rock and had glowing green eyes as well as a wispy 'tail' made of the same green color. Each of the Rock Mara were equipped with a large hammer and minimal metal armor, the lot of them looking a bit like the grunt types if you asked him. They were the sort that one would find on the front lines which was fine by him, he didn't mind taking out the peons first. It would be a good introduction to fighting the Mara in larger numbers then just the singular one he'd fought initially.
"Mmmm, let's see... where do we want to start?" He mused to himself, tail lashing behind him. The five of them were walking in tight ranks, two in the front, three in the back, equidistant from each other. They were sure strict with their marching meaning there would be no picking off the stranglers like what he'd done countless times before during dragon hunts. This would be a head to head battle, five versus one, but he couldn't say that he was worried. He'd fought with countless things in the past and he had even killed a Mara in the past. As such he felt that he was ready for this, ready to add Mara to the list of creatures that he had taken down in multitudes.
Ducking down low to the ground the Diabi debated on how to go about this, then decided he would stick to his Khehora form. No reason to let them know everything that he was capable of straight away. No reason to give them everything when he didn't have to he thought to himself, creeping forward a few steps, keeping down low to the sand, before he finally charged forward. Waiting, while it wasn't his thing, allowed him to charge forward towards their backs. He wanted to get in a good first strike, wanting to try to take out at least one of them out before the others were able to react. It was the same plan he used against dragons when he fought them in groups.
The sound of the Diabi crashing into one of the Rock Mara was a loud one. His weight was enough to drag the creature to the ground before he used the scythe on his tail to strike each of its joints. The strikes severed the arms of the Mara before he grabbed hold of the creature's helmet and pulled, tearing it's rocky head off. It was tossed aside and instead of blood the only thing that left the Rock Mara was a flash of retreating green light. He gave it a glance, following the direction it went in, before turning his attention back to the rest of the gathered Mara. They all had their eyes on him now, all of them speaking in their gravely voices about catching him and bringing him back. As if he'd allow himself to get trapped by these idiots he thought darkly to himself.
The fact that their spirits fled after the battle annoyed him greatly but he couldn't think about that right now. What he had to do was go after the rest of them and later he'd try to follow those glittering souls, see where it was that they were going, and slaughter them where they nested. Later though, he had enough to do on hand after all. The first of the Mara came charging at him, lifting its weapon up, and Eyphah whirled around, lashing out with his scythe tail and removed the head of the second one... and much to his amusement the creature's weapon fell down, crashing into the body, and all of it collapsed into a heap. Two down, three to go he thought to himself as he opened his wings and took to the air as the three remaining Mara brought their weapons down where he'd been moments before.
"Pretty quick for big guys." He muttered to himself, fast for something made of rocks as well. He couldn't underestimate the creatures, even if they looked slow and stupid they weren't, meaning that he was going to have to be more careful with the way that he had dealt with them. He flapped his wings to bring himself up a bit farther, to get a better look at the trio of Mara that were still standing there below him, all of them looking as though they were as ready as he was to continue on with this battle. He drew in a deep breath before diving down at the creatures below him, slamming one of them face first into the ground before he gave a great roar, his tail lashing out toward one of the other one, removing an arm from it. His maw pulled back into a grin as the arm hit the ground, finding it amusing even if the lack of blood was a bit of a disappointment to the battle loving Diabi. He couldn't worry about that though, even if it came down to it that he was just fighting against rocks, a fight was still a fight.
The Diabi was quick to dodge a few more attacks made against him, just barely dodging some of them, before lashing out with his tail again. Using the natural scythe like weapon he had on his tail allowed him to cut the creatures up bit by bit, making his job a little easier. The one under his feet was flailing about, messing with his aim a bit, but he would do his best to hold it down while he finished off it's two allies. It took him a bit of time but he finally left the two in pieces, their souls fleeing, before his attention went to the one he was riding like a bucking Hastar, "Your the last one, Rocky, time to finish you off." He said, reaching out with his fore feet, grabbed hold of it's rocky head and pulled, popping it off easily enough.
He hopped off the creature as the final soul took off and he gave a toothy grin, "Heh, excellent!" Five Mara found, five Mara defeated! Now, it was time to celebrate! He couldn't wait to tell Tallulah about how well this went! Now that he knew the battles were doable it meant that Tallulah, and maybe the little whelp, could come along next time too.

It wasn't all that long after he had dealt with the multitude of Rock Mara, and while he was on his way back to his clan, that he came across a trio of Mara that were in a shape he hadn't yet seen before. They were the ones that Tallulah spoke of, the ones that looked almost knightly in their appearance but he knew for certain that, despite their appearance, that they weren't going to be like the two-leg knights he'd run across in the past. These weren't going to have any meaty bits on the inside of their armor meaning that they weren't going to be able to be added to a nice stew. Still, it would be fun to take on some of these new Mara, see if they left behind anything interesting for him. The last ones had left behind nothing but some shattered granite, not something that would be of much use to him sadly. Perhaps the knights would be of more interest though.
Crouching low to the ground he started forward toward the trio. This should be easier, there were only three of them after all, but at the same time they had weapons that were more slashing and less bashing, meaning that he should keep his guard up. Even if the numbers were greater the fact that they were better armed might cause him a problem. At least, it would prove a problem if he let them attack him with those weapons of theirs. If he was swift enough, as well as savage enough, he would be able to take them apart before they were able to stab him with those gleaming weapons that they carried. Moving closer to them, while staying close to the ground, he took in the formation that the three of them were using. This time it was three in a side by side line, not too far from one another, likely ready to fight as a unit. If he were to attack from the side he could throw them off balance by making sure that one of them crashed into the other and then the other, a bit like violent metal dominoes.
Grinning a bit at the thought he lunged forward to do just that, throwing his full weight into the side of the Metal Mara, wincing just a bit at the awful sound that was produced when the trio of Mara crashed together. It kicked up quite a ruckus but it would be worth it if he were able to defeat them in a swift manner. The sound might be draw more Mara in so that he was able to attack them as well! The more the merrier if you asked him, he was rather enjoying these battles after all. If the crashing sound of metal on metal drew in more of these strange creatures he would just have to fight with them as well. He would get home eventually and the more Mara 'heads' that he had with him when he got back the better, it would allow him to show off to his clan, his mother, and to Tallulah. The more he showed off to the latter after all the more Tallulah then pushed himself to in turn get stronger, it was the best thing for the Merkora or so he believed.
After the initial tackle, as well as a bit of time laughing at the three for the fact that they seemed to be caught up on one another's armor, Eyphah was moving again. He threw himself forward into the battle, continuing to crash his weight into them, tangling them up that much more, before he started to tear into them with his claws and tail scythe. The more tangle up they got with each other the easier it was to slash into them, leaving deep gouges in the glittering armor that they wore. He was even able to land a lucky shot, knocking one of their arms off which made its attempts to hit him with its weapon a bit on the fumbling side. The weapons they carried seemed to be of the two handed variety, making it that much harder for them to wield such weapons with one hand. In fact from there he actually started to aim for the arms, feeling that he would cripple them the most by removing arms.
The more arms he removed the more helpless they became until they started to abandoned their armor, their blue souls racing back toward where they had come from. It was a pain to see them fleeing so quickly but he didn't mind. He was actually having far too much fun just tearing their temporary bodies up. It wasn't long before all that was left was a mess of torn up metal bodies and a stack of what looked like metal bars. He starred for a moment, wondering if they had been inside the armor or something and his attacks had knocked them free. After a moment of thought he just shrugged, gathered them up, and then trotted along on his way. He wasn't sure what he needed any of this stuff for, not as if he was some sort of black smith or something, but maybe he could trade with some of the two-legs for something that he would find more useful, cooking tools for example. With that plan in mind the happy Diabi was once more on his way back toward the caves, making his way toward them slowly but surely.

It was really just as Eyphah had predicted, the sound of him beating on those Metal Mara had in fact drawn in some other ones to his location. He couldn't say that he minded all that much though, more Mara meant more heads that he could collect. Truth be told though it didn't seem as much fun given the fact that all he was doing was fighting with animated objects like rocks and armor. He would really need to see about going after some dragons later, it would make up for how boring the Mara battles were as far as their lack of blood was concerned. For the moment though he was pretty content, the Mara were at least plentiful enough that it would seem like this wasn't going to be boring.
The next group of Mara that appeared, a trio of them again, were the sort that he had fought the first time when he'd just run across them during a one on one battle. They were interesting enough looking and he had to admit that the variety of Mara made the battles more interesting as well. The fact that he wasn't fighting the same thing over and over again, it sure made the battles more tolerable. As he turned to fight the trio of Mage Mara he took them in, giving the trio a once over, before his maw pulled back into a bit of a grin, "Are you sure you want to do this? Your comrades really didn't stand much of a chance against me and I doubt that you will either." The fact that his first to battles had gone so well was going to his head a bit, making him feel quite arrogant as far as the Mara were concerned. If these ones were as weak as the previous bunch then he felt that he would have no issues with them.
Just as he was thinking this the ground beneath his feet suddenly erupted and he was thrown backwards. He hit the ground, rolling a couple times, before pushing back up to his feet, looking at the pillar created from the sand that was standing there before him. He blinked a couple times before giving a chuckle, "Ahhh, so you are capable of magic, are you? That will make things more interesting." He wasn't too much of a fan of magic, it wasn't really something he'd spent time on learning himself, preferring his battles to be in close quarters and very visceral. Now that he had learned the hard way that these particular Mara were magic users, well, he'd have to change up his strategy a bit. The last thing he wanted was to get overwhelmed by their spells, especially given that it seemed they could manipulate sand. Sand was a plentiful weapon in Eowyn meaning they had an endless supply of ammo to throw his way.
Another pillar of sand came launching out of the earth and this time he was was mostly able to dodge it, still getting his side scrapped up, but it wasn't too bad. His tough, scaly skin had taken the brunt of the attack. Giving a flap of his wings he pushed off the ground, in time to avoid a few more pillars, landing on top of one of them before he took in the Mara before him. They were in a perfect triangle position, one in front, two in the back, all of them preparing spells at once. Alright, so he had to throw off their formation first and foremost he thought to himself as he jumped down off the pillar, landing in the sand, and set to charging forward toward the trio. He would focus on the one that had taken point, deal with it first, then move on to the pair in the back.
Once his charge had gotten him close enough he pushed himself off the ground with his powerful back legs, crashing into the foremost Mage Mara, slamming it down into the sand. It's body shook from the impact and before it could recover he'd severed both of its arms with the scythe at the end of his tail. It really was a most effective weapon he thought to himself as he dug his claws into the Mage Mara, rolling backwards just as the other two sent a combined magic attack his way, letting the brunt of the attack hit the Mara he had hold of, using it as a shield against the magic. It was a trick that would only work once though since the attack made against it by the other two had shattered the Mage Mara's form and caused its red colored essence to flee. He rolled over onto his feet once more, facing down the remaining two Mara, before he quickly started racing to one side, a mass of pillars erupting from the ground behind him. It he wanted to keep from being beaten until squishy he was going to have to keep ahead of them he thought to himself.
For the moment he was racing along, circling around the two Mage Mara that were remaining, looking for an opening. They were following his every move and, unlike some prey, didn't seem prone to getting dizzy. That would be a bit of a problem but he wasn't too worried, they were nothing more then reanimated rocks while he was something far greater. He'd do to them what he'd done to all the previous Mara, it just seemed as though it might take just a bit longer then the last ones. His arrival back home would just have to wait a little longer was all.

After circling around the pair of Mara for a while he finally saw a weak spot, that being when the two of them were parallel to one another, one facing the other ones back. It meant that only one of them was able to see him and thus only one of them was able to send its magic his way. That was the time to strike at them, when they were at their most vulnerable. Sure, the threat wasn't completely gone, he still had to worry about the magic of the one in front, but at least getting pelted with spells by one Mara was better then being pelted by two of them. With this in mind he started his next forward charge, weaving from side to side in a serpentine pattern to make it harder for the Mara in front to hit him before he crashed into it, sending it backwards into it's ally before he raced by them, circled around, and did the same sort of attack from the back. He did several hit and run attacks against the pair, dinging them up a bit, grinning all the while.
He had to stay on his toes when it came to magic wielding foes, as such he was going to do this battle in a slow and steady manner, not wanting to get in over his head. It was something that he'd done in the past and he had learned from the mistakes. If he let himself get in over his head then he would just end up wounded and if he got wounded then it would take him out of the battle completely. The Mara were his prey, he would kill all of them he came across, he couldn't afford to get wounded. Instead he had to keep ahead of them, ahead of their magic, and be sure not to get clobbered by it again as he had initially. He could feel the bruises and scrapes that he'd gotten from their attacks twinging even now. Minor wounds but still annoying ones, this was why he felt it would be good to have Tallulah about. The Peisio would be able to heal them in between battles and make fighting against these things that much easier.
Once he saw another opening he moved in once more this time jumping off the ground, landing on one Mage Mara, throwing it off balance, before jumping from it to the next one, crushing it down to the ground, "Mmm, you magic wielders always do seem a bit softer then your warrior counter parts." Even these ones, who were made of similar materials to the Rock Mara, seemed a bit more delicate. It must be a rule of thumb, if you wielded magic you were more squishy. At least that had been his experience to this point. Giving a bit of a grin he reached out, grabbing hold of the Mage Mara's head and wrenched it free from the rest of it's body before tossing it aside. It hit the sand a moment before more pillars came up from the ground on either side of Eyphah, looking to come together to crush him in the middle.
With a great flap of his wings he pushed off the body of the Mara he'd beheaded and took to the sky scant seconds before the two pillars crashed together. The Diabi gave a bit of a sigh, glad not to have been hit by such an attack before he circled around the remaining Mara. Two down, one to go, then he would once more be on his way back toward where the rest of his group was. He would see if he actually made it back this time around or if even more of these things would get in his way.

As he faced off against the remaining Mage Mara he realized something that was in a way kind of disturbing. Unlike when he fought with dragons and other living creatures these ones didn't really seem to react all that much when it came to their allies getting killed off. He wondered if it had to do with what they were made of and the fact that the souls seemed to escape after their bodies were destroyed. Maybe it just didn't mattered if one their kind was defeated because it probably wasn't gone forever. Still, it was kind of a morbid though. If he was fighting and Tallulah got hurt he would worry, even knowing that he would be fine once he healed himself. These things though barely blinked when one of their number was cut down. Yet another thing to dislike about them he supposed.
The Diabi gave a rumbling sound in his throat as he gave the Mage Mara a once over before he said, "I really should finish this, I have places to be." He couldn't very well leave even a single one standing after it had seen him, that would put his whole group in jeopardy since if even one of them found the caves then they might come back in greater numbers or something. It wasn't something that he could allow, not when there were so many lives at stake. As such he'd be sure to crush this one just as he'd crushed the last ones.
This one though seemed as though it wasn't going down without a fight. When he went in to attack it the Mara was quick to dodge most of his attacks, taking a hit here and there, and sent just as many back his way. They were smaller amounts of sand this time and more plentiful, making it impossible to dodge them all. For every hit he made against the Mage Mara he was hit with just as many himself, maybe more, something that had him growling under his breath before he lashed out with his tail, removing one of the Mara's arms... but it kept on coming. Add their lack of reaction to physical harm to the things that creeped him out about them.
