No moon shone this night, making the desert sands seem enptier than usual, a solitary shadow moved like smoke through the night formless and elegant. Only a strange purple glow hinted at a presence in the dark. Somewhere in this fast desert their mother resided, somewhere.
The mare needed only the smallest bit of food and drink to survive. Before however neither her nor her sister requires sustenance, they had only killed before for pleasure and work. But No longer, her god powers had diminished along with her sister, they were nothing more than ordinary horses with wings. It did bother her too she was not as bonded magically with her sibling anymore. They could sense where the other was but their ability to communicate had too diminished upon entering this world. Hekate hated it.
It was disgusting she like a common mare she was a demi-goddess, she wanted her powers back! All of them, walking was dreary work. Perhaps if she and her sister found mother she would have a way to regain them. Hekate felt vulnerable for the first time since coming to this world and was glad her sister was nearby if she needed call. The two never went far without the other.

On the edges of the oasis that he called home, a stallion stood looking out over the dry ocean, his muzzle covered as it so often was now against the wind blowing sand in his mouth. And when it wasn't being used to protect against grains in the wind, it was being used to hide his expression. Not that Latif wasn't a good actor in his own right. There were many a time he thought his mother was onto him. Could read past his impassive expression to the feelings he kept hidden inside his heart about the state of affairs. That he wasn't really as pleased as her other sons to be working with her. Or even her granddaughter, as much as it was Scheherazade's duty to teach his neice how to behave properly. It was fairly obvious she didn't want to. If Latif had learned anything by ignoring his sword duties and focusing on observation, it was how the others were feeling by watching them all these months. Sooraya wished to be a stallion. Latif snorted, the cloth billowing out a bit. It was wound tightly across his mouth so as not to come loose during the day of its own account. Or get too easily snagged in something.
No, Latif didn't think it so bad to be a mare. Sometimes it was like they were invisible to some of the stallions in the herd. To himself, as well. To be invisible is an ability he wished he had. To just stand there and listen to a conversation easier, without someone bowing or going silent because of some stupid rule about not talking in the royal family's presence without permission or some such nonsense. He wasn't even sure if that was a rule, never bothered to learn them all really. If there truly were many. He zoned out during lessons.
The young Prince was not, however, stupid. He was cunning. He had smarts when he choose to use them. To follow all the rules set aside by his paranoid father was not one of them.
If he knew he wouldn't be searched for for months, he would be tempted to run away and never return. Maybe start a herd of his own. But that would be impossible. Unless he died, his family would find him. 'Specially at the rate it seemed to be growing. Not that there were any new additions at the moment. Hadn't been since his arrival. But five kids at once proved a very fertile family, did it not? And what did fertile families do best when they got together? Be fertile. There were a few mares some of his brothers had their eyes on. None in this herd interested in. Little seemed to interest him.
Except that strange shadow moving out in the desert. Moving a step closer and screwing up his eyes, Latif decided it was some large creature. Probably another Star. Could be a spy.
"Excuse me!" he bellowed, stepping clearer out of the oasis, the wind ruffling at his robes to reveal the sword always tucked underneath them. More out of protocol than interest on the Prince's part. "You are coming close to the A'D. State your business."

She ignored the bellowing prince the first time. Why should she stop for someone below her she wasn't really in the mood to have fun right now. The shadowy mare paused amethyst eyes locked on the one who called to her. Before no one would have dared. Well they may have but they would have regretted it shortly after. She watched him for a time not quite sure which act to play. Her cold gaze settled on his sword as he revealed it. Drawing on her she could die in this mortal form if she set one hoof out of line or made him feel threatened. Not that it would be an easy kill but anything can die if cut apart enough.
But perhaps despite the risk, Hekate smiled both sweetly and mysteriously. Maybe a bit of fun was necessary to improve her mood. Persephone was only a mental call away he'd never be able to take them both "I have no business here," she replied "I am just in passing." The souls that usually accompanied her began to return so with a flick of her delicate and powerful wing the spirits around her disappeared. They always had the most unfortunate timing when she wanted to be sweet.
Even in the darkness Hekate could see as though it was the day. She took a good look at the star before her. he was clad in plenty of silk cloth rimmed with crimson pearls and decorated with silver and emerald trim. Hekate could not see his face save for his eyes. Was he trying to be mysterious? Such attire did not impress Hekate. However, this stallion must be of some importance to the herd she was apparently nearby.
"Who are you?" she asked. "Who would call to me?"

Latif stood his ground, awaiting with slight impatience for the stranger to come closer. The wind continued to blow at him, sometimes throwing sand up in his eyes, causing him to break his gaze with the approaching dark figure to blink furiously and shake his head. Goddamned desert! There was nothing good out here! Absolutely nothing! He couldn't even meet new Stars, it was always the same crowds over and over. Few wanted to join the herd, no children outside his own family were born here much. It was always just the same ole, day in and day out. The only changes were the merchants or the occasional traveler who passed by. What marriage prospects for his brothers that were sent had already been sent, apparently. As no new ones have come in for a while. Was his herd being forgotten? Maybe. He didn't see how they could be remembered when they lived so far out in the desert. Even the mummy herd he had heard spoken of was close enough to the greener sides of the planet to not be forgotten. While his little "home" kept mostly to itself. That was hardly sustainable. They should really move somewhere closer. Farming could still be done on the fertile soil, while the herd could live on the sand if they so desired the feel of it under their hooves so damn much.
But he doubted the herd would move. This was where the first two of his brothers were born. It was almost a sacred place, at this point. Like the birth was a sign. Bah. Ridiculous. Miracles and signs didn't happen. They weren't real. Coincidence, was all it was. Or just his father being an opportunist when he finally came across this lush paradise.
Latif did have to admit, at least. It was quite beautiful here. So many trees, grass, fruit, berries. It was a tiny world in itself, surrounded by so much dryness. But enough musing. The stranger approached.
The bay stallion stood up a little straighter, putting on a proud air. "You speak to Prince Abd-al-Latif. This is the home of the Anuyidan'Danayi herd." No doubt the mention of the herd alone should suffice enough. As isolated as they were out here, few didn't know the story of the famous Scheherazade. It was quite a tail. Even he was impressed. "Few wander out this far. There is little to see here. Is there somewhere specific you are looking for?"
