User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Zion had been traveling with Nash for about a week now, and the two had been getting to know each other a bit better. Well, okay, Zion wasn't sure if her inane chattering was getting into the bit of the brain Nash was reserving for her (or whatever it was that brains did, something about axes and trees, she was a little confused about that), but she was certainly learning a bit more about the kid.

And, of course, developing a helpless crush on him. He was just too damn cute! And sweet! And he just wanted to impress his princess! Which was a pity, because that meant that there was no freaking way he was interested in the effervescent genie at his side. Darnit, darnit, darnit, darnit, darnit! A jealous part of Zion was quick to point out that she was here, and that princess wasn't. Which meant that she had an advantage. Or rather, she would if she could actually grant wishes. In all the fairy tales, the girl who worked hard for the man won the man. Also she was usually a princess--NO, BAD THINKING. So all Zion had to do, if the stories were right, was work hard for the stallion she wanted and grant him some wishes, right?

Aha, aha, aha. Not so easy. Zion hadn't granted wishes much before, so she wasn't exactly good at it. Darnit. She'd have to start out small, and Nash...didn't want small. He wanted strong. To beat up some bully solara and claim his princess, or something like that, she was getting the story piecemeal. She kind of wanted to meet this solara to kick him in the face for making Nash feel inadequate. After all, Nash was...well, he was perfect. A skilled warrior, clever, dedicated...darnit, why did he feel the need to prove himself?

And why couldn't he make it just a little easier to prove herself?! Ugh. Boys.

User ImageWhy couldn't things be so straightforward? They had been traveling a little over a week and they hadn't discovered a whole lot. Let alone anything to help Nahusha to become stronger of help Zion learn to grant wishes.

Nahusha actually became quite accustomed to Zion's constant chatter starting to enjoy listening to the Genie mare. Zion was funny though much she spoke of he didn't understand. Zion was also kind, and best of all she didn't judge him for how he looked like his father. That was one of the things he enjoyed being away from his herd. The stares of judgement from much of the herd. he'd had to work so much harder to even be able to learn from the other guards. Though he wasn't permitted around the royal family often despite his much more honest and serious persona.

At least his cousin hadn't minded his company. They had become better friends on their journey together through the desert. Sometimes he got to stand guard over his cousin. From time to time during that, he was able to see Sooraya. She was the prettiest mare in the whole herd. Considering her lineage it wasn't surprising, she was different too. Strong and fierce you could see it in her eyes if one would dare look. Though sooraya tried hard to hide it. Nahusha knew. he admired her in many ways. If he could prove just himself better then maybe just maybe...

Nahusha sighed. Yeah, that was all right? Easier said than done. He was sure Zion would scold him for moping again. It was hard to keep optimistic when his chances were pretty much slim to none.

The stallion sat in the shade as they waited through the heat of the day. they could travel again at sunset. Almost buried by the sand dunes Nahusha had found some sort of cave which appeared to be a decent place to wait out the sun. The stallion placed the bottle he carried carefully beside him using himself as a shield to keep any sand away. It was Zion's Precious home after all, and if anything happened to it there was no telling what would happen to Zion.

Nahusha gently rubbed the bottle with his nose and waited.

The rubbing of the lamp made a faint squeaking noise inside, but more than that, it registered as a pull to Zion. It was hard to explain--maybe it was just instinct, something built into genies on a fundamental level. Can't spell "genie" without "gene!" she reminded herself. She wriggled out of the spout and waited for herself to fully form. As she waited, she watched Nash. Gosh. Still so cute! And broody. Not in a chicken way, though, but in his "thinking about the princess" way again. It was a pretty common expression on his face, though she'd rather be trapped in her lamp for a century than admit it to him. Make that two centuries. "Your wish is my command, Master!" she said, mock-seriously. Then she giggled. It was hard not to--such a corny line! Traditional, maybe, but tradition could be pretty corny, after all.

Zion looked around. It was mid-day--too hot to travel. She and Nash must be resting, then. That made sense--it was a pretty good time to relax and make conversation. Or...something.

She snuck a glance at his face again. The brooding. She sighed, then took a deep breath. Then she sighed again. "Nash, is there...something small I could start with? I mean, we aren't getting any closer to your princess without my practicing. So, um...what could I start out with?" Anything to make him smile, or be happy, or something...

Nahusha chuckled a bit as zion appeared from the bottle. He blushed a bit in embarrassment; It had become a bit embarassing for him when she called him master. He rather considered her a friend not a servant of any kind as they'd been traveling together. He'd been thinking about that too. It had felt wrong to keep her with him like this. Maybe she wanted to leave and find her family? Did genies have family? He appreciated her help though. So maybe he could free her? She'd probably like that then she wouldn't have to hang around with him. Though the thought made him feel a bit sad. She'd quite grown on him.

"Hey zion," nash smiled at her as he quietly listened to the mare. She was new to Being a genie but despite that she still worked hard trying to help him and he was thankful. He wanted to help her too. But should he tell her about his wish to.free her? Now or latter? He started contemplating that as well leaving himself deep in thought even though zion was beside him.

Oh no, broody ahoy! Nash was being sad again, and Zion wasn't sure just what she could do to help. There had to be something, but helping someone was like improv, she needed cues in order to do her job right, and Nash...wasn't giving her enough clues.

Okay, think, Zion, think--what did she know about him? She knew that he was in love with a princess, who was herself (possibly) attracted to a big solara guy. She knew that Nash felt inadequate--but not just because of the solara, no. There was something else in the way, something that made it difficult to be with the princess even if there wasn't a romantic rival hanging around. And it had to be a bigger problem than just his station in life. He wasn't a prince (so far as she could tell,) or a lord or anything, but she felt like there was an anchor around his neck, or possibly an albatross. It wasn't just that he wasn't highborn, it was that he was...lowborn or something. There was something other than the princess and the pig that was bringing him low. So what was it?

Family, maybe? Zion laid down next to Nash and curled her whispy tail around herself. "Nash, darling, give me something to work with." She flicked her tail, summoning curtains, some potted plants, a reclined couch, and a chair for her to sit in. Just an illusion, minor genie magic, but she had a point to make. If she had to be his shrink, then sure, she'd be his shrink. She perched the old-fashioned glasses on her nose and peered over them at him. "Tell me about your family," she said in her very best Viennese accent.
