Well, I've officially completed the circuit for my first effect pedal build, a clone of the Ibanez Tubescreamer TS-808! It's yet to be boxed up, because i need to drill the enclosure, but It works, and I can use it now! It sounds great, and i love it! I'll post more pictures when I actually get it boxed up. Heres one of it bare-bones.

Also notice the wire i used: computer ribbon cable. I used a retro bulb from back in the day as the indicator light, too!

That looks sweet. So does it sound like a Tube Screamer?

Kileu: Thanks! It took almost 2 weeks to finish it because I had to wait for one little part that i couldnt find at Radio Shack.. I'm relived now!

Bambulus: xD I can't help it! I just love doing things like this, and I worked my a** off and most of my money off just working to this single pedal project.. Next up is a little Fuzz pedal called the Bazz Fuss. It's a circuit designed by one of the more prominent pedal DIY'ers in the DIY community, and is generally accepted as one of the single easiest pedals to build. Should be fun - I don't have a pre-made circuit board for this one so I have to Perf it... If you don't know what that is,. you will by the time I post my next build report.

James: It sounds pretty sweet, but I can't really say whether or not it sounds like a screamer. I've never played on a TS-808, original or otherwise, so I can't really say. From what others have said it does recreate the sound quite nicely.

Awesome. I want another overdrive pedal. I still love my Muff, but I want more than the single OD sound. crying

wow, nice smile ... wish i could do things like that

James: Yeah it's nice to have a new sound other than my BD-2. The Muff is more of a fuzz than a distortion though. I might build one this summer or something.

Nairu: It takes a lot of determination. It took alot of determination for me to not give up after my first 2 failed builds. I shelled out some good money for them, and this TS-808, and only one of them has worked. As a matter of fact, the Bazz Fuss I'm working on now doesnt want to work. I built it today and will be going through the debugging process tomorrow.

I really recommend at least iving this hobby a shot if you like building things, working with electronics, and have some money to toss around.

thats great man. where's the schematic? i have been compemplating working out my own overdrive curciut using either AC30 or 6L6 tubes. Probably a pair of each.

You can find the schematic for the Bazz Fuss at www.home-wrecker.com

There's also an article on that site, as well as several different versions, including one with two Bazz Fusses in series, call the "Buzz Box". I'm just building the original though.

The schematic, layout, bill of materials, etc, for the Tube Screamer can be found at www.GeneralGuitarGadgets.com , along with a ton of other projects.

Also check out www.tonepad.com

Well, I got the Bazz Fuss working, and it sounds fantastic. It gives me a nice warm mushy distortion (as opposed to "harsh", not "mushy" as in muddy!), though I was expecting more of a fuzzy tone. Maybe I'll build a different fuzz next time.

Well, with two successful builds under my belt I guess you can call me the official GGG Pedal DIY'er xD

If you get a chance, look into some of the Zvex stuff. They've got some crazy things goin' on.

I so wish i'd taken electronics as a course in school now, I really want to start making stuff.

Yeah Zachary Vex's stuff is pretty cool. He actually used to frequent the DIY Stompboxes forum that I'm a member of, and stull pops up once in a while. unfortunately, out of respect for him making a living off of them, his schematics are not available anywhere. Even so theres an unlimited number of projects to do.

Getting into the hobby isn't hard at all, I'm not part of an electronics course either. However it does take some studying to actually understand what's going on in the circuits. It's one thing to slap all of the components together correctyl and have a working circuit. Its another thing to actually understand what makes the circuit WORK. I'm just now starting to understand the basics.

I can understand that, especially the kind of stuff he builds. I mean the wah probe? That's just a crazy piece of equipment for a guitar. Pricy, too.

And this reminds me, my mom recently got a new job! Which means more cash flow for my family! Yay. I should be getting a job soon, too, but I'm trying to put that off until after my exams. So I should have a little extra cash that I can put towards experimentation with circuitry and guitar components and whatnot, I just need to read up on the how-to's.

And thanks Ash, you've always got some great advice up your sleeve for any situation. So, thanks for any advice that you've given, ever. It always helps.

Ash, you're ******** INSANE. You could make all your own guitar hardware and stuff. You're gonna go big and I'm gonna get all my stuff from you. @_@ lol
