The day was turning out to be something of legend...in its own mundane way. Clear skies, tame surf and lots of little treasures littered on the beach from the recent storm.
"How perfect.." Anansi smirked, tilting his head to the side a little as mischevious golden eyes peered at all the sea items skew ashore. It would be simply perfect to find something befitting his most awesome beau - Victor. Something pretty, something fitting of him but most importantly...it had to be awesome. It wasn't like he could give him just anything...flowers, shinies, food were all kind of...granny ish. Not that they wouldn't make fine gifts for his mother or grandmother...but not his passionate love boy who set his hear pounding in his chest. It was going to be great he could tell...if only he could find this thing.
Trotting along the beach he could feel the sands shift against his hooves, the waves crashing and crawling up the beach; leaving nothing but the dark wet sand before slowly drying in the sun before the next one came stumbling up the shore. He could see crabs, pieces of sea coral, various seaweeds and the occasional dead fish. Nothing that really screamed the idea: for you, the one who makes my heart feel as awesome as I -am-
"Damnit Victor....why do you have to be too cool for all of this stuff." Anansi huffed in a faux irritation, kicking a shell out of his way as he walked. "Maybe something like...a giant shark's skull or maybe like...some kind of weapon? He wouldn't be that lucky, Anansi could already tell by what he was seeing. It was going to be a long day - and was already regretting leaving on the terms of wanting to return with a surprise. Yet...as he pondered more about it he wondered how he would even get a giant skull back to his homelands...that would be a problem.
Sighing gently he looked out towards the sea, what on earth could he bring back that would really put a smile on his love's face. Something so amazing he'd be speechless...was there something like that even at the beach?

 Her day had started early, when Grail life was just starting to awaken and the rays of sunshine filtering through the water lit up the rainbows of colors that was her home. She'd wanted to be on her way as soon as possible. There had been storms along the coastline. And storms usually meant interesting things washed up on shore! Her brother, Eoin, wouldn't be able to go, so Teagan had promised to find him something cool up top. So, after making sure her small bag crafted out of seaweed and rope - an item she'd traded for because of its ability to work on land and in water - the mare set out on her new adventure.
The surf was on a low tide, opening up much more of the beaches. Teagan laughed in glee as she trotted along the soft sand, eyes alight with curiosity and determination. A few things had caught her attention here and there, and she would add them to her bag. But the real excitement came from her plan on traveling farther then she had been able to before. She was a young adult now and totally able to travel on her own! That freedom was so intoxicating it was a wonder how she'd managed to contain herself for this long.
Tossing her mane out of her eyes, the mare dashed off, running as fast as she could and following the coastline before she was diving back into the water. Only to repeat her dashing on land and diving again.
By the time she finally started to grow a little tired, she was surprised at how far she'd already traveled. "Oh man. This is so cool!" She was giddy, her steps light as she searched around the new beach. Maybe she could find Eoin a cool shell? Or a lost treasure?! Or something even more epic?! Teagan giggled, prancing along, the water slinking up to splash her hooves as each wave drifted towards land and retreated.

It sure is beautiful.. Anansi thought as his eyes wandered across the vast blue of the sea, he'd wondered absently what it was like down there; it was a place he'd probably never see unless he was drowning and well...he didn't want to see it that badly. He'd often talked with their resident mer, J-dawg about the wonders of the sea; and although he brought up many trinkets and treasures from the deep he also said it could be a lonely place.
Kind of like the surface - too.
However the beach wasn't lonely today, as his ears perked up and his head followed suit to hear the sands shifting from more than just the waves. Anansi's brows raised as he could see another smaller figure darting in and out of the waves as if it was some....well, he didn't know what could dart in and out of the waves. She didn't seem to see him yet as she was more intent on looking what was on the beach nearby...was she also looking for a beach treasure to bring home?
Well, nothing ventured nothing gained right?
"Hello!" Anansi called cheerfully, trotting at an eager but not fully a 'bowl you over' pace till he reached her vicinity. He'd never seen a mare quite like her, and wondered if she in fact crawled out of the sea. "I'm Anansi...I saw you running in and out of the water...how the heck do you do that?" He asked quite bluntly, but not in a rude fashion. He knew with her tail being all fin like - similar to a mer's that maybe she had some aquatic abilities. But how deep could she swim? How long could she hold her breath? Did she breathe underwater? All of this was quite interesting.
"Are...you looking for something here too?"

She never noticed the stallion until someone was calling 'Hello' to her. Teagan skid to a halt in the sand, eyes widening in curious surprise. Oh! There was someone else out here?! How exciting! The mare grinned, changing her course to walk - okay maybe more like a slow trot - towards the stallion. "Hiya there!" She called back, giving him a look over. Not anyone she'd ever seen. And he was her size! Not that she hadn't met anyone around her size before... but they all lived below the surface of the ocean. Not on land! (Ob)Noxious was even bigger than him!
"Do what?" Teagan asked in confusion at first. "Oh, ya mean swimming?" She giggled. "I was born in the ocean!" Sort of. "I can swim in it and live down there too. But I can't breathe down there like my brothers can." That had never bothered her though. Eoin and dad couldn't come on land! "I'm Teagan, by the way! It's nice to meet ya!"
Her ears perked up and a wide grin met Anansi. "I totally am! Wait... are you searching for something too?" Oh how perfect! She could have a treasure hunting partner! And an awesome story to tell her siblings when she got home! "I'm lookin' for something wicked cool to bring back to my brother." She paused. "Is that a mask or part of your fur?!" She asked in an awed whisper, inching closer into his vicinity to get a good look at him.
From what she could tell, he was bigger than she was, but not starkly so. And his tail! It wasn't a fin, like hers and her families. Yet it wasn't feathers like Nox had. It was much like her mane! Teagan giggled. "Do you live 'round here?" Maybe he knew some killer treasure troves to explore! Tirokio I'm so sorry this took me longer to respond to! ;;

Once he'd stopped in his tracks at a comfortable distance between them, his eyes widened with his curiosity piqued; born in the sea? He'd never heard of such a thing from one with four legs like she and he. Sure, Mer's like J-dawg and seathi like April even with two front legs wouldn't be able to get out of the sea but....for one so like him to be able to be down there was just something else. "For reals? Your not pulling my leg?" Bewilderment aside, it did make a little sense as he couldn't visibly see any gills or something....not that he'd ever met anyone who could inhabit both land and sea.
How lucky was she!
"Thats pretty rad, Teagan! I wasn't aware it could be done!" He grinned and puffed out his chest, a little full of himself but not nearly as much as he usually was. "I'm Anansi, it is my pleasure!" Which he did mean - other than Victor he hadn't had luck meeting anyone outside of his family unit and their mates. "Its just fur...sadly. I wish I could get something as awesome as a black skull but i've been....busy....to look for amazing things..." Not that he would elaborate on why he was occupied.
"Yes! I am looking for an amazing, awesome, bad a** item to bring back for Victor. He's back at my herd which is close...down the beach that way where I came from." He felt his cheeks flush a bit, hard to pick up by the dark hues on it face. "He's my best friend and ah- lover - if you will." He wasn't embarrassed, but he'd never really had to tell anyone as most knew by the way they acted. Words were a lot harder to get out than it would be to be nuzzling all over him with affection. "Maybe we can look together? It would be great to have some company! I'm not really one for being alone..." He could do it but being such a social usdia it really wasn't his cup of tea if he could help it.

 Now she really grinned, laughing at the stallions bewilderment. "Of course I ain't pullin' your leg!" At least not yet. Sure she wasn't always forthright with information. But when it came to swimming? There was no reason to hide that! "My dad lives in the ocean. With my brother and uncles. They don't look quite like me though." Teagan glanced at her four legs and finned tail. She didn't really elaborate on how they looked either.
And he wasn't calling her a liar. In fact he thought she was... rad!
"Well I assure you, it can!" She winked, tail flipping up and down. "Nice to meet you too, Anansi." What a strange name. Then again, she was used to the names of her herd. Like uncle Ronnie, Eoin, and her dad, George. "Awe, just fur, huh? Well it's a pretty awesome marking then!"
Ahah! So he was looking for something! Excellent! "Oh awesome! The beach is definitely an excellent place t'look for amazing things." That's where she always found them anyways. She had no idea who this 'Victor' was, but she figured he was on a similar mission to her. Friend and lover? "Oooooh, so you want somethin' extra special then." Teagan nodded, not even batting an eye at the fact that his lover was a male. It wasn't something that really registered as strange in her mind.
"I'd be happy to have a partner in crime!" She grinned, digging a hoof into the sand to check for anything shiny. "One little pony isn't enough to scour this whole beach." Teagan added with a laugh. "And I can always check just below the water too! We can cover more ground if we search both at the same time." Why hadn't she thought to bring someone out with her? She'd just been so focused on finding Eoin something nice from the shore. "I want to find my brother something nice too." She added, letting her eyes drift along the beach as she began searching.
Then paused, something he'd said finally registering. "Wait, yer herd is just over that way?" Her eyes widened like a foals, hearing this new tidbit. "Along the beach?" She'd never... met another herd before! "Cool!"

"So....your family..." He thought hard about this, as he wasn't very good at puzzles and this one seemed as good of a doozy as trying to tell people about his massive estranged herd. "Are...Mers? Seathi? Is that why they're in the sea?" He proclaimed, before adding. "We have a mer and seathi who are part of our family too. My uncle J-dawg joined my grandma and grandpa's herd when they moved close to the sea, he's not really my uncle but he insists we call him such. Then my grandma adopted a seathi into our famjam, since he really had no family to call his own. That's kind of how the whole herd is. My dad was adopted by grams and gramps; but my mom is an Usdia just like him so all my brothers and sisters are just usdia's." Well....they had some interesting variants pop up but hey...he just thought they were wicked. "I'm the oldest...and the most amazing if you didn't get that already." Anansi puffed his chest out and chuckled, clearly enjoying stroking his own ego.
"I totally do...he's so awesome. Unlike my fur marking he's got this amazing reptilian tail and a tongue that stretches for daayysss..." Oh. Oops. He found himself blushing and coughed a little as some more mature images came to his mind's eye. "So its got to be just awesome to compliment his more awesome you know?"
Oh, this was going to be epic!
"Yeah! Lets get looking! I'm sure between the two of us we can find two awesome things." Anansi nearly jumped in his step and began to trot down the beach, shouting back. "It is! We made our home on a peninsula; its just amazing in the temperate rainforest. My gramps and the adults made canals which lead to huge pools in the middle of our home so Uncle J and April can swim up and hang out with us. My gramps is an Angeni so he can change into people! Its so weird to see him do it but we're living the luxury I tell ya." He winked back, feeling so fortunate and well...spoiled. But Anansi liked to be spoiled, and of course spoiling his loved ones.
Besides, who doesn't like attention and pampering?
Maybe crazies...but he stayed away from them.
