I needed to recover my energy from chasing that blue Alkara around for the entire afternoon so I ate more then I usually did for dinner. I settled down in the water’s edge on my little beach and went to sleep. As I was settling down, I noted the position of that dratted Alkara. I was settling down for the night high above me, in a tree on the rock wall tops. Hmmm, that was a good position for it to have warning for when I was coming at it. I’ll have to be very quiet when I wake up so as not to wake him up. I slept well, until I woke around midnight. It was time for a midnight snack. Moving very quietly, I slid under the water and swam out through my underwater entrance. I swam quickly, so that I could feed then return. I was thinking that I would leave the ocean and fly high above the ocean surface. Maybe I could coast down to where that sneaky blue Alkara was nesting for a night. I needed to move quietly and slowly to catch him off guard and to not damage him. After feeding, I left the ocean for the sky, putting my stealth night attack into action. I had about a single hour long flight back to my secret island lair and I spent the time high in the dark sky. The moon was just barely above the horizon when I reached the air space above my lair. Looking down at the dark landmass, I circled, slowly cruising lower and lower, moving my wings less and less. Finally on one of the round, I spotted his sleeping figure in a rock alcove. Perfect. I angled myself and coasted down to where he perched sleeping. Just before I hit the rock face, I reached out and gently picked him, snapping my wings and rocketing upward to avoid crashing into the rock face. HA! I caught you now you feathery fiend!

I managed to capture the Alkara with a midnight sneak grab while he was sleeping! Now to get him into his cage so that I can start taming him so he won’t run away from me. I landed clumsily before his cage. I had to land on only my back feet as my fore claws were holding the now awake Alkara. He struggled against me, but I am much stronger then him so I could hold him without hurting him as I hopped over to the entrance and released him inside. His head turned to look at me and I settled down in front of the cave. I am big enough that I didn’t need the door yet; I could block most of it with my body. Sleep time now… well sortof. I actually spent the rest of the night simply watching this Alkara. He moved away from me but seemed more disgruntled then afraid.
For the next three weeks, I spent my time either hunting or with the Alkara. I think that the best way for me to tame him, is to have him come to see me as something other than a predator. So I would bring in berries from the plants above to supplement the ones growing in the cave, and fish too. I would feed him right after I had gone off and hunting. I would occasionally bring back leftovers for him also. Three times a day I exercised my magic, making a huge water weave. I raised it into the air, creating a place for the Alkara to fly without allowing him to escape. During those times, I would chase him around and we would play tag. He would usually manage to avoid me but every so often I would catch him. When I caught him, I would spend a little bit of time gently running my claws through his feathers, attempting to copy his preening. Every night I would sleep in the front of his cave opening. Eventually he came to sleep perched near or on me. Finally the day came to test if he would escape or stay with me. I released him from his cave without making my watery ceiling. I flew to the rim of the rock walls, and waited for him. He joined me and perched on my shoulder, preening himself. Success, I had a friend!

Thinking about it, I had no clue on how to train a bird to guard my house. I think the first step is to name them and get them to respond to the name. I decided to start calling him Blue-bit for lack of a better name. From now on, I would always call him Blue-bit and hope that he eventually got the idea. Besides that, frankly I was at a loss. I would need help with that, so maybe it was time to go visit my brothers and ask for their advice. I packed my backpack with all of Blue-bit’s favorite nuts and berries, making sure he saw me. Then I launched myself into the air, circling above until he joined me. We flew across the ocean, me close to the surface, and Blue-bit high above me. I would have swum, but I was afraid of how Blue-bit would react. Having a pet is interesting; it was like I had a small child following me around again. We reached my brothers’ lair, and I promptly went looking for food after giving Blue-bit the rest of the food in my pack. I had skipped on a couple of meals coming here and was quite hungry. Afterward we took a nap, blue-bit napping while perched on my right fore-leg. We were woken by the sound of laughter. Apparently the sight of me with something I would normally call prey sleeping on me is amusing to my brothers. Grumpily, I raised my head, and growled “what are you laughing about rockbrains? Haven’t you ever seen a pet before?” “No it’s just you having a pet that is funny!” Ah-jooh gasped out before going back to laughing. I sighed and used my magic to dump water onto my silly brothers’ heads. “Alright, sillies, quit laughing, I have questions for you” I sighed. That night we talked about taming creatures, both of them said that it was too late to train Blue-bit, he was already used to me feeding him for simply being near me. They said that the closest way to make him guard my lair was to make him a nest area near it but that was probably be the only way. Oh well, this was my first taming, so I’ll do better next time.
